[Q] wrong north - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

hello all.
android apps really cool and works well but i've a problem.
every compass that i downloaded from Market shows West instead of North.
there is no magnetic field or metal objects around and windows compass can find the true North at same location.
yours also same? any way to solve problem or calibrate the compass as we did for g-sensor?
tyvm.

EB13 Magnetometer / Accelerometer issues

Hey Everybody I have experienced and corrected the compass / magnetometer issue in the epic by calibrating the unit upside down.
I am curious of a few things.
Does your Magnetometer work correctly without calibration in EB13?
If you calibrate with your screen facing up does it cause the Magnetometer to display erratic results EB13?
If you calibrate the unit while the screen is facing down does it solve the issues?
What Hardware revision are you on?

Used exe from Samsung to update
Compass didn't work right after the flash.
Calibrated display upside down.
Used compass calibration tool.
Now it works great.
GPS is great.
EB13 is better than DK28 but still has issues....
Hardware Revision
D700.0.5
My old man updated OTA. his compass was fine. Never rooted or flashed.
Mine was messed up by flashing dk28. horribly.
Rooting and running "/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha" face-up fixed the erratic behavior.
"Settings>display>calibrate" face-down fixed the backwards reading.
Works great now.
EB13 has a calibrate option where I don't recall seeing it in 18?
Hey all,
I am just curious if there is a corrilation between hardware revision and sensor issues. What hardware version are you guys?
Thank you!!!
I noticed issues with the accelerometer mainly when playing Words With Friends. It was damn near impossible for me to not have the words constantly shuffling. This was after having calibrated with the phone face up. I just recalibrated with the phone held upside-down on a door frame and now have no letter shuffling issues in Words With Friends...

Thank you so much! I was on the verge of returning my handset due to the compass not working, I figured the unit was broken. I could not find any info anywhere, and this fixed everything. Now CDompass works, as does Google Sky Chart. Yeah! Thank you!
using bonsai 3.0.0 rom and kernel
both sensors working great no need to calibrate.
i could be wrong but i think everyone has the same hardware version unless somehow you were part of a beta test and have the beta hardware.
i have the same hardware as you.
Unfortunately for me, none of the tips provided here or elsewhere worked. My hardware revision is same as the others here: D700.0.5
I have calibrated the phone facing up, facing down, facing sideways. Ran the sensorcalibutil_yamaha util. Nothing. On a flat surface, the phone points North where West should be. If I rotate the phone a little, it changes its mind completely and thinks East is where West should be.
It has done this with all the various official and unofficial ROMS I have installed on this thing. Is there anybody else in the same boat as I? Is my phone broken and would Samsung fix this under warranty?
Thanks.

Compass Not Functioning

This is a known issue on Gingerbread and there are literally thousands of messages all over the web (Google: Gingerbread Compass) but I thought it was fixed in Honeycomb.
I downloaded 3 different "basic" compass apps to test with and they all have the same problem. Most of the time the compass points SOUTH or SW or SSW and not north. Other times it just randomly points where it wants or when you rotate the tab the north arrow just rotates with it rather than locking in on NORTH. Sometimes it just keeps shifting 10-15 degrees back and forth when the TAB is sitting still on a wood table.
I use an app that requires the compass (Dishpointer Pro) and needless to say it's totally useless. I have tried the "figure 8 calibration" and it doesn't help.
Note that the compass is not the same as the GPS. My GPS works fine.
I have the same problem on my Samsung Infuse when I load Gingerbread but on Froyo it's fine.
I've tried a couple different ROMS on the TAB with the same problem. Funny thing is, I don't think I tried it on the stock ROM.

I'll check it for ya bro. I've never actually tried to use a compass app yet
I have gingerbread and the compass on my phone, both phone and tab compass appear to be working.
I didn't use Compass app but on GMap, the arrow points to the correct direction for me when I'm stationary (so it is not caculated via GPS). On my phone, it never works reliably.

Do you have your tablet in a case that contains magnets? If so, those magnets may interfere with the compass.

If your GPS is enabled in the hardware settings as soon as you load maps the GPS is functioning. I have no problem using any program that supports & uses GPS only compass. You can tell if the GPS is on by the little circle that looks like a "sun or a compass" when you run maps or nav. If it is showing it's using GPS.
My arrow in maps follows me perfectly. Just can't get any compass program to work including Dishpointer Pro which is what I always need to use.
Same as me only google map work.

compass wont work with any ROM

Hi, I have a problem with the compass on my UMI zero. When I use google maps or any compass app the direction pointed by the arrow is always the same whatever direction i rotate my smartphone at. Only sometimes it points in the right direction but slowly rotating to the same wrong one. What's going on? I tried to install different ROM but the problem was never solved, and at the beginning it was working, i cannot say flawlessly but at least acceptably.
Compass problem
i was facing the same issues as you are with UMI Zero's compass especially on its stock firmware (update 3.10), but i went ahead and got the rom from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-miumizero-miuiv6-umi-zero-t3050090?nocache=1
and installed the firmware available on it.
i also made sure that all GPS settings were on before using the compass because without it (try using it with the data on for the first few trys), it kept telling me to wave the phone in the shape of an 8 to recalibrate it. it works now much better than before but it is still not completely accurate. i think the problem is within the hardware rather than the software.

Problems with gyroscope and VR

Has anyone had problems with the gyroscope in vr applications?
The compass works very slow. And vr applications are not able to move the screen with the movement of the phone.
Any way to calibrate the compass or gyroscope?. Anyone else has happened?

i dont use vr, but a lot gps navigacion,i install gps esencial from play store and its giving me under 20 ft precision mostli al the time, but google maps its get lost a lot, somtimes an error of 1000 to 3000 ft. im thinking is software problem not hardware. other navigators go beter but still get lost somtime. my motorola G first generacion is a crack, never lost.
There is a known issue with the gyroscope being non functional . There is a fix in the latest OTA formware update which came out last night. I've just updated and thingsseem ok.

Make sure you are on the 20161215 firmware release and retest.

P9 lite Compass issue

Hi,
I have been using P9 lite (model L31) for the past few months and found that the compass has some issues. Even if I calibrate the compass using figure 8, it does not stick to one point. For example, if I use google maps walking navigation, the map keeps on rotating so much that its hard to find the actual direction. Though the same does not happen in car navigation mode.
I have experienced the same thing in other apps as well. The compass does not stick to one position and it keeps on rotating.
Does anyone experienced this issue?

Even granting location access to the default compass app of the phone does not help. Does anyone has any clue why is it behaving like this?
Same problem on a L21.
Compass used to work fine, but since a few weeks ago it does not point to magnetic N... not even to a point with a certain deviation (if I rotate the phone, the "north" also rotates with it).
My good old N8-00 compass still works fine...
After A LOT of 8 shaped calibrations (with and without GPS enabled), the compass seems to work again...
