Hi guys,
In case people haven't seen this one before. A uhm.. Case for the himalaya, it makes the device look more cool, and less nerdy i think. Better then the typical admin style ledercase.
Would love to use this one, too bad it's so expensive.

It is available for less elsewhere. I am using one that I paid 900 baht (18 euros) for in Thailand. JavoEdge sells them for US$28.95 (22.30 euros). If you buy one, be sure to get good screen protectors too. I use the Martin Field's Overlay Plus. Now if I could just find a way to get a commission from these guys!
i would get this one
http://zxpro.com/catalog/product_16...20_with_unbreakable_screen_cover_cat_325.html
i havent come across any screen protectors which was able to save the screen if the xda fell on a corner of a table or something
the pure silecon imho protects the part of the xda which is protected the most already

I had never seen that one before. Other than the belt clip, it looks great; and I'm pretty sure you can remove the belt clip. Part of my problem with belt clips is that people here will steal your phone off your belt. No sense advertising you have an expensive phone.
I got one of those silicone cases (not the one with the screen protector, the first one). Cost about £5 off ebay.
Re: Nice Silcone Cover
I too bought one of the silicon cases. Very happy with it apart from one aspect: with it fitted, the Himalaya will not fit on the Sync Cradle! It is just slightly too bulky. This means I have to repeatedly take the cover on and off and, even over a week or so, I can feel the cover is less 'snug' than it used to be. I suspect it is getting stretched.
I have ordered a few cases before I was told that the TMobile USA HD2 is a slightly different size than others and now I have received those cases and they don't fit, now I am dissapointed and back out on the search for a case that actually looks nice and fits as well...Any advice? One case I do like is this :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150398009772&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
But please dont let this limit your advice/recommendations... I am looking for any kind of case other than a leather pouch type case and I also do not wish to have those leather cases which have a flap that covers the screen..... any advice ?
I have been using a T-mobile Wing case I found for $5 at the tmo store on clearance. Good fit but it snaps on the front and it makes me nervous every time i push on them and they push against the glass. Still looking for a better case.
Someone told me the type that are held closed using a magnet may cause the famed "newton ring" so i'm not sure what to get.

Don't get that one. I ordered the exact one weeks before I got TMOUS hd2, and it doesn't fit.
I mean, it fits, but not perfectly. Plus, the material was too rubbery.
I don't even know if that's the word, but it's very shiny and doesn't feel that great in my hands.
It gives killer grip on any surface, though.
But once again, that cover does not fit your device perfectly.
I threw it away. such a waste...
I'm using the default gel skin it came with.
It's very nice, surprisingly. it's not the normal silicone cover that attracts every sort of dust in your pocket.
yeah i ordered two cases off ebay and one came in guess what they don't fit lol..awaiting more cases
I ordered and received that case already, but I wanted one that fits my phone...it does not fit completely but it will do , it is very nice in my opinion, shiny and slick , I do not like the stock one too much as it causes my fingers to feel dry and sticks in my pockets so it doesn't slide out easily enough...
any advice...anything like a 'barely there' case for our phone ?...
please post any ideas/ advice/ experiences/ anything..

I don't have an HD2, yet, but...
I've used a horizontal belt holster with a magnetic clasp for my TP2 since I got it in September. It's in the holster everyday, and I have yet to see a Newton Ring develop on my screen.
When I get an HD2, I'll be calling my local T-Mo store every week to inquire about future cases (like the one erebusting purchased) for the HD2 -- I'm afraid a 3ft drop would cause the thin phone to break in half! I also want a thin, hard case so I can still put the phone in a horizontal belt holster (I hate putting my phones in my pants pockets).
One of the main reasons I picked the defy was it's ruggedness, because I do potentially dangerous sports, but obviously there are limits to that ruggedness, and if you take a fall or something likely to break the phone, it may well have broken you - and a working phone comes in kind of handy at that point
So... with that in mind, can anyone recommend any decent hard cases? I thinking more along the lines of a hard pouch you slip it into, but may consider flip open ones or something that allows easy access to the touchscreen if it is tough enough.
Waterproofing not really an issue since the defy should be able to handle any streams or such I may fall into anyway.

Otterbox Commuter Case
Agreed on the Commuter Series. I expect although that it is going to make the phone much phatter than that it already is.
I work as an audio engineer at some places (school, local bars), which means I carry lots and lots of big flightcases. And I've to be kept in the loop. My last phone, an LG KS-20 died this way. As I was carrying a big flightcase, a corner tapped the LCD through my jeans, destroying it. So many appointments and numbers lost!
Note: I haven't got my Defy yet, I'm working things out on getting it.
i'm selling mine. dont like my phone being so bulky because i always put it in my pants pocket.
if you're interested, pm me.
I was using one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amzer-Silic...2OI6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1303117510&sr=8-8 but it added too much bulk and it wasn't a particularly good fit even if it did offer decent protection.
I now use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/iTALKonline...5F3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303117510&sr=8-1 and it is a good tight fit and it doesn't bulk the phone up very much at all, my defy certainly feels better in my hand now being a bit heavier and a bit grippier, with this case i can slip it in and out of my jeans pocket without it getting stuck as well.
yea i use otterbox. i don't mind the bulky feel
There is a really nice two-piece alternative from case mate. I use it and I can't complain.

I ordered a few cases from China in eBay, but don't know now if they will have good fits for the micro usb slot and the earphone slot...
Kinda thinking about the Ottebox one, but ah, if it's so bulky.
Only problem about China is that it takes a while to arrive. Will post about it when they arrive.
Cheers,
Andrew
I want to use a special case, but i'm wandering if it has some problems with cooling this way. If i play Dungeon Defenders for example, the phone gets pretty hot, and with a case i'm afraid it will get even hotter, because i'm not sure how the heat will be transfered.
I got a tpu case from ebay and some silicon ones.
The tpu is great but the silicon were really hard to get in and out of the pocket.
I recommend the tpu with a red thing on the back, which you can rip out and it slides well and also fits very well on tue device.
Cheers,
Andrew

it's nice to have cause i dont think the defy will resist falling onto the street, when biking...^^ the case will give it more toughness =))
I've had the Ottterbox case for months now. Everytime I take the case off for some reason it drives me nuts now because the phone just feels too small. I work in a precast concrete plant and end up getting pretty dirty by the end of the day. Thankfully this phone stays a lot cleaner now then other phones I had that I didn't have the Otterbox case.
I have the Acer official case for the tablet. 2 things i noticed. it was really tight as everyone knows to fit the tab in the case. after a few weeks of taking it out to replace the sd card. or clean out the crap that gets in it (dust, crumbs stuff), the bottom right has torn a little bit. just enough that it does not fit well anymore and slides down as i hold it. any idea on a fix for that? and one more thing. does anyone think replacing the Velcro with small magnets will damage the tablet in any way? thanks
(if this belongs in another sub-forum, sorry, please move)

i ended up cutting a hole out for the sd card door. and i was worried about magnets too, so i ended up using a stronger velcro and it works pretty good. as far as your tear, you might try super glue to repair it, or try sewing it back together? if i think of anythingbetter ill let ya know
hey thanks! yeah my girlfriend left her sewing kit at my house. so i mite just try that. anyone know about magnets? i just wanna be sure because i feel like it would be a lot better then Velcro
My case (non an OEM case made by Navitech) has a small magnets at two corner that hold it closed. They aren't very strong, but they are strong enough to hold the case closed and I have never experienced any problems because of them.
i bought the 9$ gizmogeeks hardcase from amazon and I love it. Even has a net storage area for cables on the inside

i only have one sd card at the moment. and im passing at between my droid, atrix, and this tab. i just ordered 2 32gb cards for the tab and atrix. does anyone think that it would be harmful to use 2 semi strong magnets right in place of the cheap Velcro? i have the magnets. but i dont know if it will affect the mic, or god knows what else is in there.
I used some 3M command double sided tape to deal with the sliding issue. It isn't too sticky, and the pull to remove with no residue makes it a non issue for getting it out of the case and off the tablet when needed.
I have multiple msdhc cards, with a 32 in both my phone and tablet, so I don't often need to switch out cards.
I'd recommend cutting a hole out in the case for it. No, wait, I'd recommend something else...
Not using micro SD cards interchangeably. I'm baffled when I read review after review of tablet or phone where the auther comments on how the SD card is buried beneath the battery or the cover for the card slot is awful and will break if used too much. Of course they are like that...SD cards are not meant to be interchangeable. If you really are moving lots of data back and forth, such as watching a ton of movies, fine, stock your tablet with a large card, but use the port that's actually meant for interchangeability: your USB port. Plus, it's much cheaper for a high capacity USB drive than it is an SD card.
And to actually answer your question, weak magnets should be okay, but it really depends on where some of the parts are inside the unit. Try looking around for other cases that are meant for the Acer and see where they put the magnets.

Would you mind putting up a picture or two?
i bought the targus leather case/stand for mine. It's $30 from best buy, but it has 3 angles for the stand and seems well built.I'd always recommend it against the official case.
okay, so first i tried superglue on the case. as soon as i slid the tablet in, it ripped open again, so that's a no go. i was going to sew it but worried that would just make it weaker or tear worse. so i used the 3m tape idea because i happen to have it laying around. works great! so thanks ... still trying to decide what to do about the crappy Velcro. :/

Actually, the mic points toward the back of the unit, not the front. Looking at it from the front though, the mic would be a little left of center according to the measurements. So, with that info in hand, looking at that location on the back of the Acer case, there are three little holes, right where the mic is at.
I call mystery solved!
under some very close inspection i found a small opening in between the glass and the top bezel that is right behind the mic, not sure if that's what it is for, but it makes sense to me.
I bought my case long before I got my phone, I originally got one of these terrapin case it was terrible, not even made for the phone, the lens for the camera is blocked, you cant plug in the headphones and the speaker has no hole...so be warned dont buy it.
Bad case link here...they also sell this thing on Amazon as well.
So instead I picked up this case (see link below) , so much better, super cheap, holds the phone well, all ports are accessible apart from the USB port but you can simply snip a little hole in for it with a pair of nail scissors.
Everyone seems to want the bumper and are paying stupid money for it, whilst it is a nice addition to the phone its doesnt protect the glass front and back as good as a flip case, this case isnt bulky either and is cheap, I know flip cases arent to everyones taste but then a broken phone doesnt suit me either, I just dont see the Bumper offering much protection, its not going to stop that coin in your pocket cracking the glass in your skinny jeans pocket is it, it might just help if you drop your phone.
Good case link here...Much better option on Ebay

Your good option was at the top of my list at one point but the side grips that keep the fone in looked sus, I ended up ordering a Nilkin Flip.
It is a nice case but I also got the nillkin flip as I need to be able to charge through the case with the air charger. Its funny the eBay seller in Singapore got the case to me quicker than some of the vendors in the UK (I have now tried 4 cases for my n4) the nillkin is the case for me for sure

Having never used a flip case before I'd be interested to hear some of your thoughts.
I really like the look of some of the flip cases, especially the ones I attach to this message. My concerns however, and the reason I use a bumper, are to do with how practical they are. (I'm talking about cases that flip to the side)
Take the basic task of taking a phone call, what happens to the flippy bit once its up against your ear? surely its just hanging there looking silly.
Likewise, when you want to take a photo? if you took a landscape, the flippy bit would always be falling back down over your fingers and the screen surely? you can't flip it over the other way as then it would block the camera?

I use an app called intellicover which wakes the phone when I open my flip and puts it to sleep when I close it, so I open my case, swipe to answer, flip the flap closed then carry on with the conversation with the case closed, you don't need intellicover to converse through the case.
For photos I either hold the phone like a book for upright camera shots actively aiding my grip or the flap flops down, offering no aid or impedance to the use.
The photos above are the Nilkin I've got, it's great

Guess it must be stopping the phone from sleeping properly if its using the proximity sensor constantly

Paying stupid money? A bumper alternative is only $9 and $6 if you pre ordered.
For me, flip cases aren't stylish for me or anywhere near where I live. I guess everyone has their own tastes but you shouldn't insult people who wish to use a bumper.

I'm talking about the Poetic Bumper Case. Not the official bumper case. It's their money, who are you to tell them how to spend it?
It's common sense that bumpers aren't necessarily for those who needs high amounts of protection. It's to show off the back with minimal protection. For myself, I'm a very careful person and don't need Otterbox protection so I don't need those kind of cases.

Not off-topic. OP thread title says "Why bother with a Bumper" it is generically speaking.
It's their money, if they want to spend $60 for a bumper and they earned that money. They can spend it however they choose to. A flip case isn't the ultimate alternative for everybody. I prefer a regular case over a flip case.

You see any part of that that says the LG bumper? He is speaking generically on ALL bumpers. Unless he specified one it is fingered towards all bumpers. English 101.
I was talking about the lg bumper as I didn't know there was an alternative one at the time? And as the other poster has said its my opinion and I have a right to express it in the same way you have to disagree with it.
Stupid money is an expression to say that people are paying over the odds it doesn't mean they are stupid ffs
The main point is to protect your phone the lg bumper at 60 quid on eBay offers less protection than an 8 dollar case. The nillkin case is very well made, slim and offers great protection. You can put your phone in your pocket with coins in and not worry about it, I wouldn't want to do that with just the bumper on it.
