How do you extract the OTA update once it is downloaded to phone? Do you need terminal or adb? Can this be done? Is it just in a folder somewhere? I searched and really couldn't find any instructions on how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

In this guide you can download the update in zip format. It has not been modified.

Thanks for the info but I was more or less wanting to know if there is a way to extract the OTA update once the file is downloaded. I have the OTA update as it comes but just wanted to know if there is a way for me to get it from a phone once it downloads it.

This file is not contained at the asus website and he probably wants it because it can use razorclaw to root, is this correct?
I have the file if you have a fileserver I will upload it for you BTW.
Am on .21 but my system update won't work on my transformer so wanna move back to .19 and then root to install ICS rom...
Suggestions welcome...is there a way to root .21?

If you want, i have WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.
I made in the same way... Root for this version, then .21 and then do what you want. Works with CWM flashable from here

Hey guys, i'm downloading the MM ota file to xt1078 (brazilian version). Once the download is finished, i'll upload and put on this thread.

Tutorial:
1 - Download the file above and put in the root of your internal storage.
2 - Go to bootloader mode, choose recovery option. Once in recovery option, you'll see NOTHING. Don't worry, press the power button and click in Volume +. Will appear some options, choose "apply update from Sd Card" (or anything like that).
3- Your phone will reboot and you will get the 6.0 Brazilian Marshmallow
4- BE HAPPY!
PS: If there any modifications to the system folder (Root, xposed, any system app removed) won't work. You have to be on a 'clean' stock version.

The Rom on filefactory is the Firmware file (all files of the system, boot, and others that will be flashed by fastboot). The archive that is on the thread is the OTA (over the air) file, that is to upgrade the 5.0.2 version to 6.0 on retail brazil version.

I don't think so. I wouldn't recommend it. You may brick your phone... Maybe you should check on xt1072 forum if someone has had success doing that.

Sadly that done does not flash since its a lower firmware.. Hence i need a dump from the firmware above so as to create an odon flash.
I was hoping someone could help me out. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything. Is there any way to extract the recovery image from the firmware zip? I tried to do so on my PC but I received an error saying the zip was invalid which I'm assuming is because it's signed by HTC. I'm trying to avoid flashing the firmware in RUU mode since I then lose root. My goal is to be on the stock recovery with root so I can receive OTA's when they are available. If not, does anyone happen to have a copy of the stock recovery for the 1.19.605.22 software . I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Great thanks. Saw this tool on a couple of other sites but only for Linux. Didn't know there was a Windows version. It's pretty straight forward. Feeling kinda dumb for missing it.

There is a way to use an update.zip via adb, but I've never had to do it. Look in the Nougat beta thread. I recall someone mentioning how to do this early on in that thread. Maybe someone will chime in here.

I'm trying to use the PI3 to nougat zip you uploaded. Is that the OTA? I'm trying to sideload it but it says "can't read "update.zip."

Yes, but I redownloaded it because I said it wouldn't read so I figured it was a bad download, but it's still not working.
I've never done the ADB method, so someone else will have to chime in.

After rooting nougat and jacking my phone up trying to flash different things to it, I used these files with the official Odin and restored my phone back to stock OTA nougat. Thanks for the files!!
