Every time I flash my rom, it turns on the data connection on first boot.
It can be frustrating sometimes, since i have to flash the rom for many times before i can come up with a new release; and in the end, i will be left with 0 credit.
Is there any way to stop this?
Remove your sim card (unless you're using cdma).
In the ROMs I cook for my Wizard I include a link in \windows\startup to \windows\radio.exe that turns off the radio as soon as it runs after a flash. Then I run radio to turn it back on after my flash is done. This way I did not have phone calls during flash when I was actively using the phone. Now I have it as a lab rat and have no SIM card, I do not get the no SIM card message during flash.
My app.dat has
Code:
Directory("\windows\startup"):-File("Radio.exe","\windows\Radio.exe")
Also, remember to delete the link or every time you soft reset your phone radio will switch on or off based on it being off or on already.
You could copy radio.exe to your phone and run it to see if it stops your radio and then run it again to see if it restarts it.

For me these settings do not stop my Wizard from popping up message there is no SIM card.
I may also have the same problem with @Shu.
after flashing, the Connection Setup automatically run and download the necessary setup for Data Connection.
But what I don't like was it, after downloading those settings, it automatically connect to the internet.
do you know guys how to disable this?? I'm looking for a way to not to let that Connection Setup automatically connect after it downloaded the settings.
tnx!
Is there a shortcut in your startup folder that's doing it, like to adc.lnk? I used to have the issue, but solved it so long ago that I don't remember how. Now, I just run adc manually when I feel like establishing the connection. If you use an HTC connection setup utility, then the process is probably called up during runcc.

Anyone have a ROM of WM2003 that works w/ T-mobile USA? I tried about 5 and no luck. XDA dev Rom works great and so does my old one, but can't find a 2003 rom that works. All either hang at the boot/welcome screen or don't boot.
--Mike
So far I have tried 3 different 2003 roms.
The first the "O2" rom loaded, but gave me some intermittent problems.
The second “For Testing Only” rom worked great. Only one small problem with Microsoft reader. I most likely wouldn’t have changed except that the new ROMkitchen got me more excited than it probably should have.
Now I am using the ROMkitchen version very happily….(same problem with the reader though)
Interesting because I tried the ROMkitchen version yesterday and got the same, hangs on welcome screen result. Did you do anything special other than put it on SD with XDArit? I have Wallaby 5.15 bootloader which I think is what the unit shipped with but from what I've read this is fine.
I'm just at a loss because I've tried most everything I can think of. Which file type did you select from the ROMkitchen? I grabbed the nb1. Should I try NBF? Does it matter what I put in the "header string" at the bottom of the ROMkitchen page? I noticed when I try to upgrade it says my device is PW10B1. Does that matter?
Maybe you can post or email me your ROM and I can try that today.
--Mike
I didn't use the SD card boot with the Kitchen rom version. I had the Kitchen create an .exe file and let it load through usb. I actually did it 2 times...and it worked both times. Just did it the second time after they fixed PocketMVP.
I will e-mail it to you if you want, but I think that you should try creating an .exe through the Kitchen first...since that is what I would e-mail anyway.
Scott
The Hang that you see may be caused by the simtoolkit loading on startup. Try removing the link in the windows startup folder. that may help
My fellow T-Mobile WM2003 users, I have been using all 3 versions successfuly with no freezups. There is a little trick that increases stability when on the US networks:
Go to your \Windows\StartUp\ directory and DELETE Ussd.lnk and STK.lnk.
These are autoconfiguration apps that work with European providers but do nothing for the T-Mobile network; so much so, that with the T-Mo original ROM these apps were not used at all.
When these apps run in T-Mo's (Cingular's) network here in Los Angeles area, I've even experienced random cold resets when switching cell sites.
Ok, sounds like that's the problem then, but how do I remove this from the startup if I can't get it to go past the welcome screen? Can I bould a ROM in the kitchen w/o these options? I only saw an option for where to "move" these apps and not an option to not have them installed at all.
--Mike
Sorry, the kitchen doesn't allow you to do that. If you know how, you can burn your own rom and exclude these items. Anyone know what ussd is for? As mentioned, i have deleted the toolkit link and have not had any problems, just curious as to what ussd is.

Now it does...
Check the new 'Remove 'stk.lnk' from Startup folder' option. If someone tells me what ussd is and why it's bad, I'll add it to the remove list for this option...
Tried the new ROM w/ stk.lnk
Ok, I tried the new ROM and still no luck. Tried it as both .exe and as a SD flash and get the same net result. System hangs after bringing up the radio stack version and OS version as well as the third number which is: G324e4.
This device flawlessly runs the 3.17 xda ROM as well as T-mobile 3.14 so I don't understand why it will not take any 2003 ROM successfully. Any more ideas?
USSD
Unstructured Supplementary Services Data
USSD is a means of transmitting information or instructions over a GSM network. USSD has some similarities with SMS since both use the GSM network's signaling path. Unlike SMS, USSD is not a store and forward service and is session-oriented such that when a user accesses a USSD service, a session is established and the radio connection stays open until the user, application, or time out releases it. This has more in common with Data than SMS. USSD text messages can be up to 182 characters in length.
STK is for SIM ToolKit - It should not cause any problems unless you have a really old SIM Card.
I think USSD is basicaly a thing for ie. GSM banking - it allows the network to send you binary SMSes deciphered by the SIM (when I login with my GSM key to a bank account, I receive a message with temporary password, it is not sent through ordinary SMS, but delivered to the SIM toolkit area which is protected by PIN)

xda-developers,
might be a stupid question but, i checked the command to remove stk.lnk from startup in (one of the reigstry hacks) and the command is the same as to add object. how do u remove it from startup, is it based on the file name. this one has rmobj extension.

I have a TITA100(Quest) that I am unable to launch EPST.exe on. I need to enter in the SPC # that I generated, but when I tap it to launch it reads EPST at the top for a sec but never leaves the file browser. I have also tried ##778(#), but the phone dials to a quest message service that says I am unable to dial this number.
I want to configure it for cricket.
Here is what I have done so far.....
Started with: Radio v. 1.39.00, ROM V. 2.13.656.2, Bootloader 1.2
Went to bootloader 2.40(via Hard-SPL-MF.exe), Scrosler's Titan ROM 3.26 w/touchflow. and then Radio 3.42.30.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or solutions.
I got it to work after doing the using reedit to dump the code into a text file. I am not sure if that activated something, but it worked.

So go to settings then phone the location and turn it to 911 only, GPS is now off. I don't think there are any gps settings in EPST but I could be wrong. And I run GPS all the time and have no problems with my battery life. I think you have other issues.
i may be wrong, but my Quest XV6800 didn't have the EPST.exe executable in it's original ROM (it's also in the Windows directry). i believe i flashed it to Alltel's stock ROM to get to it, and reset the SPC to 000000's. i couldn't get it into debug mode with the Quest ROM either
i have flashed many Moguls and the Quest ones are always the most peculiar...
i can't get epst to launch. i tried repeatedly starting it, using ##778 AND EPST.EXE in \Windows. I then soft restarted two or three times, trying both methods after each boot.
Is there any way to fix this? Otherwise, is there another way to enter the A KEY? I'm gettin an auth error when making calls.
rom 4.1.2 radio 3.42.50 pri 1.35_002
Installed DCD Verizon Carrier Cab from http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers and that allowed me to launch EPST via both methods.
Did not eliminate the need for a new A KEY.
Still kinda learning this stuff, I flashed everything OK, and now the GPS works with Garmin XT. This is on a "practice" phone, one that was kind of beatup that I could practice on before I flash my actual phone. I couldn't get EPST to work till I loaded the Verizon cab described below. Question is, will I have to load this cab every time I flash a new ROM, or does it have more to do with flashing a different radio ROM?
This is a great forum, I've learned a lot, and still learning. Thanks everyone.
Dale.
Some roms are carrier specific and have the info included. Most roms state that installing the carrier cab is necessary. This allows the same rom for all titans and then the user just adds carrier info. Just read the rom instruction better next time. Most list if the cab is needed.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? I am looking for a way to have my custom ROM boot with the radio off (until I turn it on would do the trick also). My reason ... I turn off the radio, run backups, flash ROM (phone turns on), I get a text message (no contacts yet, so I don't know who its from) and I loose the message once I do a restore.
I will be attempting to write some software to auto-restore the backups also ... This would make flashing a painless process. When you are developing a custom ROM, there is a LOT of flashing.
Thanks.
DJ
Don't select "Delete messages from database" in PIMbackup while restoring.
That is my work-around ... I use SPB Backup on a schedule to backup every day. My work-around is to backup the "missed" messages with PIM Backup, restore my SPB backup, then restore just the "missed" messages with the "Delete messages from database" option selected ... The restore appears to hang, but it does complete if you give it enough time. I prefer SPB Backup because the restore is a LOT faster ... I have about 4500 SMS messages in my phone, and PIM Backup restores them quickly, but takes about 1 second for each one to load in the Messaging app.
Thank you for the feedback.
Try areas like
Code:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State
phone=0
wireless=0
I think I had these in a provxml and the phone would not start until I went into CommManager and restarted it.
There are flags under this key in subkeys like coldreboot, on and reboot. I am not sure what they need to be set to, if at all, but maybe this will head you in the right direction.
RoryB - Thank you ... I'll give that a try later tonight. I think I tried just setting phone to 0 already ... I'll play around with it and see if I can pull it off.
PS - I added a signature.
Ok ... I tried setting these two values manually in a running ROM using a registry editor ... This did not disable the radio. I am going to export my registry to a file with the radio on, and again with the radio off ... I'll compare these files and find the keys/values I need to set. When I find them, I'll post em here in case anyone else wants this functionality.
Start your device without SIM card after flashing. Do your restore and insert SIM.
OK, I've made a small exe for you, place it in UC script of
your ROM or execute anytime you want. It should disable phone
radio using TAPI interface, just like Comm Manager do (I think)...
the_ozyrys ...
It didn't work ... I mean ... The program turned off the radio, but the text message was already received by the phone. I think I have to remove the carrier settings from the ROM, then install via a CAB after the radio has been turned off.

or: lock the sim by a PIN code....after first boot, you have to enter the PIN for the SIM, if you don't, you do not get any service

So place it somewhere in registry startup (for example HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\Apps) and add a PROVXML entry to delete this value during customization...
This sounds interesting. Would I need to change order of any apps in bootlauncher reg? I'll give it a try. Have a problem sometime with connection setup fighting with UC for screen.
Not sure if you "remove the SIM card" guys realize this ... This is a CDMA phone ... There is no SIM card.
On my device, the Apps key doesn't exist ... Just Services. Can I just create the Apps key? I was thinking something similar to this in the HKLM\init key "Launch##" values. Not sure which number to put it as.

I did this, when the phone first boots it gives a cprog is not a valid wm program error message. I went to CommManager and system was in flight mode I selected phone to start. It shows selected, but never connects to service. I checked key and it was set back to 0. Tried reset and still no good. Taking it back to origninal.
Nevermind: there was a corupted setup so cprog did not work. Fixed that. These settings did not stop the radio in my phone.
I changed the TurnRadioFlag value to 1, and the "LOCK:Enabled" line in SDConfig.txt turns the radio off. The problem is, the radio is still turned on before this point, so by the time the radio is turned off, any pending text messages are already received. I even tried setting the ...
Code:

Something a little different.
Try cooking ROM with cprog.exe called _cprog.exe and use something to rename it after you get started.

Hello all,
I'm kinda frustrated with my HD2 device at the moment. It worked perfectly fine until a few days ago.
It has begun to freeze _very_ often. With some ROMS it can't even boot up. It freezes when I have to enter my PIN. On other ROMS it is guranteed to freeze when using ActiveSync/Exchange.
Using HSQL, I've tried L3v5y, XannyTechRom, and MIRI. All with the same result.
Have you got any ideas whats wrong with my device?
Any help will be much appreciated.
I have no idea about whats wrong but this has been a common issue/problem for many members...I don't think I saw this many issues with the HD...I dunno whats wrong with HD2 or the ROMs that it starts freezing for some...maybe the HSPL is buggy? I dunno to be honest.
maybe you should install a stock rom in between or go to MTTY and see if that fixes the issues for you.
Overall tho, its frightening to see how many people have freezing issues with Sense after flashing a couple of custom ROMs...I'm afraid it might eventually happen to everyone and thats why we need to find out what is causing this.
BTW try to format your SD card and then flash a stock ROM without the SD card and see if there is any improvement...my guess is that it will work fine again (for a while at least).
What I have figured out is that with different roms the behaviour is different, depending IN WHICH ORDER you have the links in the autostart folder.
Right after flashing it should be ok and if you install than other programms the startup interfears with the startup of htc-sense
Finaly I have the best result (on my device with the programms I have installed) keeping the htc-Sense startup as the LAST item.
You can change the order with sk-tools (Autotstart items).
You can check this (If you have a chance to access):
- Make a reset and do not enter the pin code of your sim card (on my device this was making a difference, if you do not have a pin code maybe you should take out your sim card that the phone cannot connect)
- Go to the settings and unselect in "Today" "HTC Sense"
Than you should have the normal "speed" of the device and you should be able to start sk tools and change the booting order.
It looks like that - depending on the start up order that applications - processes are waiting for each other and using nearly 100% of cpu power and you have therefore the impression that the device is frozen.
I am sorry I do not know how to change the startup order without sk-Tools
Best regards,
dingolino

When you flash lots of cooked roms, they get "bloated" and the devices started hard-resetting for no reason. this is because of files from old roms being left when the new rom is flashed.
MTTY allows you to enter the device on bootloader and use service commands to format the file system on the device so you can remove all rom files before flashing a new rom!!

basicly it will format your system and make sure you don't have any files from older roms left on the system which might cause this issues.

Try deleting the folder "\Application Folder" on the storage card using your PC/Laptop, and reinsert the SD card into HD2. I assume you are using ROM cooked with Manila version that has the document tab.
Let us know if this works for you. It took me a long time and many flashes to figure this out. I suppose you have configured your HD2 for emails or MS Exchange pushmail?
Edit : If you already experience the slowdown caused by inserting the SD Card, MAKE SURE you reboot your HD2 before re-inserting the SD card.
I had this "freezing during startup" with a number of roms (always after I installed my software) and since that I am always "tweaking" it by the startup order as I described it and was able to solve it!
I do not think that it is hardware related in the amount of cases which are reported. And I am also not a strong believer of this "flashing" and mtty discussion (it could be a solution is some cases but I do not think in this relatively larger number of cases which are reported).
For most of the rom cookers it is not the 1st rom cooking they are doing and the HD2 is not the 1st HD2 device for HTC as well. This is the reason why I do not think that there is a principle rom problem nor a principle hardware problem
Manila Sense is a complex pcs of software and the startup is therefore more complex.
Depending on the tweaks the rom cookers are doing on the XIP and other WM internals there could be a timing interfearance during booting and this is creating the trouble for Manila Sense startup (network, phone, etc.).
Reminds me to the "good old days" with ATART-ST where you had dedicated tools to rearrange the startup seaquenze of the Accessories
At least i think it is worth trying it, you cannot loose anything.
But I played not only with the finaly boot order of htc-Sense (the last one) but also I put other elements in a different order.
Sometimes it was helping to install Panolauncher and put it before HTC Sense startup - I had the impression that just having another application before HTCsense made an improvement to "give HTCSense" more time.
Does not sound like science but a little bit like Voodoo ...

Try deleting the folder "\Application Folder" on the storage card using your PC/Laptop, and reinsert the SD card into HD2. I assume you are using ROM cooked with Manila version that has the document tab.
Let us know if this works for you. It took me a long time and many flashes to figure this out.

i haven't the folder "\Application Folder" on my card. Maybe, this is why this rom works well

You can check this (If you have a chance to access):

thanx!
Hi,
sounds to me like you have flashed so many times you HD2 has become "Bloated"
this is where for eg, Rom X is 110Mb, and then you Flash Rom Y which is only 100Mb.
When you do the flash there is 10Mb of residual files left from the previous rom., when this happens often you get strange things happening like you describe and worse, your device can start hard resetting for no reason!!
Go to this thread (swap the ** for tt ) h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616422 (I cant post links yet!!) and it will fix your issue. (The thread has been shut as there has been a big argument over it, something to do with a disagreement over drivers!! - how gay!)
I can honestly say, although i have only joined recently, i have been a user of this method for about 6 years, I personally know the Guy who opened the thread and i would stand buy him 100%.
Although the thread is closed, i will help with queries via PM if you like!

I tried deleting the \Application Folder folder and reset the phone.
Of course this equaled a hard reset as all system data stored was in \Application Folder.
So I removed my storage card and did a hard reset so that the system data will not be stored in the storage card.
Hopefully this will be make the device more stable as such.
use the mtty to format ur device first, then flash the rom u want to flash.
I have encountered the same issues just like u, after use the MTTY, so far so good.
the post is kind of complex, but it is worth to have a try.

ok so I did that. And by soft reset I'm assuming you mean taking the battery out and putting it back in. Did that. No data still

I have the exact same issue. Down to even the same radio. Has this issue been resolved with the APN? I have no problem with data just MMS. I can neither send nor receive.
I tried:
wap.cingular alone and with the [email protected] CINGULAR1 username and password combination
proxy
ism.cingular
isp.cingular
I checked my girlfriends Samsung WinPhone 7 config on AT&T and it lists no APN settings at all yet MMS works without issue.
I am at a road block here and MMS is something I use for work almost daily. I would really hate o have to go back to WinMo 6.5.
Thanks for your time everyone,
Mike

Always use Connection Setup when setting after a hard reset or new flash. Do manual setup if no other work around. The new ROM's have a new database of carrier settings to automate connection setups.
