I don't know if this a problem with gmail its self or my phone but gmails keep getting stuck in out box and not sending and when deleting read emails they somehow reappear in my inbox as if I didn't delete them.
Sometimes I can't view all my emails, it says ( 1 ) for example but it won't show it no matter how many times i refresh. I have my gmail account synced with SE sync and I'm really puzzled to why this is happening. Anyone else got the same?
Iv tried doing a master reset twice this week on the phone ( x10i with latest fw r2ba26 rooted ) and this has not helped.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I had the same problems and I found out eventually what has been causing them.
I will try to explain, but keep in mind, my english are not perfect!
So, Gmail works via the Google Cloud, which means that you need to be constantly connected to the internet so that you can get notification and/or send mails. Under Settings>Synchronisation the Gmail should be ticked in order for that to work.
However, if you don't want to use the cloud thing (untick the Gmail option), you can still use Gmail.
But in that case, you need to manually ask Gmail to connect to the internet.
So, after composing a mail and hitting Send, you need to press the Menu button and choose Refresh. That way your mail will be sent.
The same applies when you delete an email. You need to hit Refresh for that too.
Also, after reading an email, you should hit Refresh in order for it to be marked are read.
As for the "unread" mails that don't show up, sometimes they "get stuck" in the cloud and not marked as read, after you have actually opened them.
If you open Gmail on your PC, or on your phone's browser, you will see the mail that hasn't been marked as read.
Hope I helped!
I understand what you are saying, your english is fine The thing is i do have gmail sync turned on within the settings and even if i keep pressing refresh nothing happens about the ones which i delete or have read, makes absolutly no differnce apart from anything i deleted will come up as unread again.
I have just reflashed my phone with SEUS and 'repaired' so we'll see if that helps.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way
While googling your issue, I came across this interesting discussion, take a look!
And to save you a little time from reading, someone said that this solved the problem:
I was final able to fix this by doing the following:
Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All>
Then scroll down to 'Gmail' and select it
Then select 'Clear Data'
When you next open Gmail it will re-sync your mail. It cleared up my problem. This wipes out all of your Gmail settings, so you will need to set up your ringtone and notification options if you had made any customizations.

Thanks very much I have just finished flashing and have set up everything how it was before. I shall do that now.
Thank god for titanium back up lol

There is a long thread about this on the Vodafone eforum: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25304&st=100
Yeah your stuck with them mate. Forget the default email app on the magic and go and get your self the K-9 app (free) from the market place.
It DOES delete your emails and to be honest is the best email app around, best of all it's free!
You can try going into applications --> manage applications on the phones settings, scrolling down to email or google mail/google mail storage and then click the 'clear storage' button. Apparently this clears the trash can. Works on my mates but for me it just screwed up Gmail so it's up to you if you try it.
Either way go get K-9
I noticed that sometimes an email will disappear from my inbox, and then when I search for it, or for all email from that person, it shows up in the search results but without an inbox tag on it (no tag at all so where is it??), so I move it back to the inbox and then it's fine again.
I think it happens when I read the email on my phone and then mark it as unread. But not sure if that's the main reason as I do this often and this has only happened with a few.
I noticed the same issue but never said anything. I got an email from an ad I posted on craigslist and when I went to back to reply the email was gone. I know it has done this to me a couple of time, most have been from craigslist and others from personal emails. What gives?
WTF it just happened again ...when I get a gmail on my mytouch and click on to see what it says. The next thing i know the email disappears, i loogged into the my gmail account on my computer and search for that email and I find it in the trash? Why is it doing this?
this happens to me too on my hero roms. are you guys on hero roms too if so which ones, if not, are you on stock roms?
it is kind of random.
Just open the mail app then press:
Menu -> More -> Settings -> Send & Receive -> Download options
Then select "By days", then scroll down and select "All"
Be happy
Sorry for posting to an old thread but seemed to be quite relevant.
I was also having the problem with my mail expiring and understand what happens now thanks to this thread.
If I change to "All" in the download options, is there anyway to limit the initial download to a set number of days or do I have to manually clear my mailbox? I know, its my own fault for having such a messy inbox, but can't really face deleting over 500 mails on my phone
Thanks for any help you can give.

My Gmail sync is busted. I am not getting incoming emails nor sending outgoing mails. When i scroll down my old emails, at the point where it starts to load more older ones, I instead get a message "No connection" and "retry" button. Retry is unsuccessful.
When i go into the data and synchronization setting and manually try to sync the gmail, I get a 1-frame-flash on the bottom which flashes me a message saying "Sync is not currently experiencing problems. Please try again later".
I then add a secondary gmail account and it syncs perfectly!! But my primary one doesn't work! I can't remove my primary account and re-add it unless I do a factory reset...which I don't want to do.
I've tried a reboot and it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?
I've got the same problem today. It seems that it's a server problem.
Server problem, even though a secondary account synced fine?
If I'm not the only one...then that makes me feel better.
I have this issue with WM
I use Google sync with WM device (My N1 should arrive tomorrow) and have had a similar (if not exact) problem. When I receive a mail from a specific sender ([email protected]) 90% of the cases it breaks the sync. I also sync that same account via IMAP on a secondary account in my WM device - just in case.. syncing every 30 minutes.. (that sync works fine) so I can use the IMAP account to delete the problematic mail.. and then, once deleted (or archived if I use the web interface) the problem is gone.
Try to find if there was a mail message you got that caused the problem. it is probably either the last synced mail or the one just after that...
Update:
The sync fixed itself this morning. It started syncing nonstop for a good hour (I'm on ATT Edge too) and I wasn't sure what it was doing, but the end result is I can now get my emails and notifications again.
On a separate note, I also noticed that now in my Gmail app, I can access every email dating back to 9/11/09. That's hundreds of emails. And If I scroll all the way to the bottom, there's no more loading earlier conversations, so 9/11/09 is the farthest back I can access my email without searching.
Does anyone know that there is such a limit to looking into past emails? Also, Anyone know why it doesn't just expose a 15-20 emails at a time like previously? Is it because once the email is exposed, it's cached somewhere and I don't need to load it anymore? If so, I'd love to know where I can delete this cache.
Some other members have experienced a similar issue with no sync. They fixed the broken sync by doing this(and this is how you can clear that cache as well)
Setting->Apps->Manage Apps-> gmail/gmail storage->clear data and cache(if you can, on my G1 I can just clear data, no cache shows)
You will probably just want to clear the gmail storage one, but doing both probably wouldn't be that big of a deal.

On older versions of Android, we could clear the cache on all Google apps... but this isn't available through the Manage Applications screen in 2.1. Not sure why Google took out this feature.. Previously if Gmail stopped synching, we would clear the cache and it would start working again. Hopefully this doesn't become an unfixable issue with 2.1.

They took it out? That sucks! Can you do the clear data at least? And I could swear I read someone with a Nexus One had this issue, and cleared the data or cache for gmail and fixed it... maybe it was in the G1 forum, starting to get confused following both at the same time.

Aha I found it! I may be an Android noob but I can still be useful.
Within Manage Apps, click hit Menu > Filter > All. This will expose all the native apps as well and you can clear your cache till the cows come home. I just found this a minute ago and cleared out my cache for my Gmail, default browser, and Youtube. That felt sooooo good, since I'm such a storage nazi.

I'm having issues with the gmail app, once i read an item if i mark it read and delete it, it will remove from my inbox and be marked as read and go to trash as expected, but then later when i get another email my notification will tell me i have for example 3 emails, when i open the gmail app there is only one email listed but at the top it will say "Email (3)", so i checked the "trash" and there is nothing there, so i then go to "all mail" and the 2 i deleted earlier are moved there and marked unread......does anyone have any idea how to fix this??

had the same issue... to fix it i went into my gmail on the pc and opened some emails...deleted my trash..etc....and since, no more gmail issues on the phone.
i read on here somewhere...that having gmail open on a computer, and your phone at the same time can wreak a lil havoc...iirc
Thanks!
I havent had both the desktop and phone versions of gmail open at the same time, and i have done the delete on gmail.com thing, that only works for the next couple syncs then it comes back....
I just cleared my app data, cache and gmail storage cache, i'm going to see if that fixes it, if it does i'll post up for others that my encounter the same issue
ok as i stated i would post up my results, it looks like clearing the gmail app data and cache, as well as the gmail storage cache worked, i'm no longer having this issue
I have some sync issues with Gmail apps too. It doesn't show somme mails, sometimes yes, sometimes no...
Where are the caches for Gmail apps to clear them up please ?
So what happens here is my Gmail is not syncing correctly. For instance right now in the top left corner it shows "5 Inbox" When everything is grey and read. It's not deleting the email from my gmail account either. When I delete the emails manually from my computer, The counter in the top left then returns to "0 Inbox" So maybe its just not deleting the email? I also used to recieve the email almost instantly. Now I will recieve emails hours late... I cant figure it out. I am running on Fresh 3.4 right now.. And I had the same problem on cyanogen 6.1 ... Any help would be great.. Thanks
Open gmail. Menu > more > settings > select which labels to sync.
Change number of days to sync up or down by one.
Have inbox set to sync all.
Go to inbox and hit refresh. It should sync now. After that set number of days to sync to 3.
I used to have this problem and since i have done this i have not had sync issues in the past three months.
Good luck.

As soon as I hit sync it brought all the mail from my inbox to the phone. I was then able to delete it... However it still didnt sync on the server... They are still inbox ...
I'm experiencing the same problem. Deleting Gmail cache from Settings >Applications helps for a day or two then it goes back to not syncing.
I do notice that everytime i do that its lasts a little longer each time. But this is a really frustrating little issue.
I'm on the latest Fresh rom. Latest Gmail version.
I actually just read the comments on Gmail app through the market. It seems a lot of people are having this issue... I hope it gets fixed soon. Its extremely annoying.
Well i tried and stated what worked for me. Hope you find your fix.

I know you did.. I appreciate it.. Thanks for sharing!
I'm having a ton of issues as well... mainly, whatever I try and send goes straight to outbox and gets tagged as "sending..." It never actually sends. HTC mail is working fine so I've just been using that.
Here's a fix:
go to Menu>Search and search for is:unread then hold-tap on each item (like to copy/paste a text box), and tap "Mark Read"
Works for me every time. It appears that the issue is that when you open and read a message in Gmail on your phone, it doesn't sync that to the server. Hopefully Google will fix it soon.
Same here, last night I read on another android phone section, to go into Settings, Sync, Uncheck sync all, then uninstall Google/Gmail account, reset phone, go back & re-add your account, sync. So far its worked for me & no more issues.
