Launcher pro plus - lag when pinching home screenn - Desire Themes and Apps

using Open Desire and i'm getting quite bad lag when I pinch the home screen to access other screens. It only seems to have happened since I started adding Launcher pro plus widgets.
Anyone else having issues with this?
Any advice?

The same here. Homescreen preview with low fps.

the same here!
the same issue on my desire running Leedroid 2.1
adding the plus widgets to homescreen makes launcherPro lag like crazy....
but i don't need those widgets that much, so i just remove them.
i really hope that the author of launcherPro can have more concern over the stability and speed of it, not just keep adding some heavy widgets...

I think in the release notes for the latest update he/she said that no new widgets would be added for a while, instead concentrating on what has been added already. I guess that is a good way to go. I assume speed and stability will improve if this is followed.

Maybe I'm just lucky. I'm having no lag at all. Leedroid 2.1
Only using the calendar widget.

I had the same, insane lag. Fixed it with setting vm heap size to 24M, rebooting and clearing dalvik cache + cache partition and setting heap to 32M again.

LPP lags when you add too many widgets. Yoiu can improve speed if you restart it but it doesn';t last long.
I'm using 3 LLP widgets (Friends, Messaging and Agenda) and widgets for time, battery and Doubletwist and its perfect. If i add anymore it slows right down.
Splash

Try adding a local.prop file ino /data containing a line that forcelocks the launcher into memory. It was echo.ro.something ADJ=1. Try googling, never had lp lag since
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

had same problem with too many widgets.fixed by doing these settings:
keep in memory - unchecked
memory usage preset - very low
use home screen cache - checked ( otherwise app drawer is too laggy)

Unfortunately nothing's working for me .. I don't want to remove widgets.
I have version 0.82 and the lag is horrible! But only the first time.
If I scroll through homescreens and then pinch - the lag is big - nothing happens for a while, and then previews apear. But when I click then on any of previews and pinch again it's smooth. I can pinch and choose any of homescreens and it stays smooth, but when i scroll to left or right and then pinch - the lag is back!

Same here no lag on leedroid

one more bug..
try dailng *123...
first time, it will erase "*"...
the second time, you are able..

I also had a terrible lag.
Do a clean wipe and reinstall your ROM from scratch.

Swipe to change home screens not working all the time!

Ok so this is a weird problem.
90% of the time the phone works 100% perfectly.
Sometimes when I try to swipe between homescreens the phone does nothing...its not locked up because the capacitive buttons work, and tapping the bottons on the bottom will let me switch home screens without a problem, it is JUST swiping that wont work.
A reboot of the phone makes swiping work again...any ideas? This is super weird.
Are you using the default Gingerbread launcher? I heard a lot of people were having trouble with that at the outset. Haven't heard as much about it lately, but I'm not sure if that's because it's been fixed or just because everyone's either learned to live with it or switched launchers.
Back when I was using the stock launcher, I experienced that a few times too. I also experienced other glitches and oddities, like difficulty in moving icons on my home screen or sometimes when trying to move icons, they would disappear and appear instead in a folder. Very random stuff. Anyway, the screen swiping issue also showed up a few times.
I've since switched to ADW launcher and haven't looked back.
Gingerbread is glitchy. That much is clear. Hopefully Google will issue more bug fixes soon.
Training am using the stock launcher. I really like the 3d app drawer and it is buggy in launcher pro. How is it in adw?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I find ADW to be thoroughly awesome. You can give the free ADW.Launcher a try, but it's missing a few features that are in the paid version ADWLauncher EX, including the 3D app drawer. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a trial period now that Google has reduced their refund window to 15 minutes, but you ought to be able to test out the app drawer and play around with the other features at least a bit in that time if you want.
I too vouch for ADW. The free version itself is quite an excellent launcher. I used to be an avid LauncherPro fan back on my Vibrant, but on the Nexus S, ADW is smooth as butter. The ability to customize your icons on the home screen (which is only available in the paid LP version) is great too. Virtually no hiccups whatsoever swiping through screens.
Either case, it's tons better than stock launcher.
I have the same exact problem and I'm all stock. I usually reboot all apps and programs using FastReboot from the market and it goes back to normal. I agree that Gingerbread still has its glitches still =[
So if o pay for adw launcher the 3d drawer works fine?

Who knows? Download it and see. All I can tell you is it works great for me.
The stock launcher is buggy as hell. I use launcher pro and it runs flawlessly.

The 3d app drawer (called 4d app drawer in adw) runs horribly on the nexus s. If you plan on changing launchers, adw is good, but the only decent app drawer to select for it is horizontal fling.
Adw holds up relatively well now on the nexus s (ran like arse on 2.3.1). Sometimes however adw will all of a sudden freeze though. You think your phone is frozen but it's not, the launcher has just slowed down to a crawl. The launcher buttons at the bottom work fine when this issue occurs, but swiping of screens will appear not to work.
If you get this problem in adw, you have to go into applications and find adw, then force close it (it doesn't appear as running under task killers, so you can't kill it from there). It will then run fine again. I have had this happen a couple of times with adw and I used to think I had to reset the phone. Was a pain.
The stock launcher problem you have stated in this thread I have encountered as well, which is why I moved to adw. While the stock launcher appears to use acceleration in the app drawer, which i love too, the regular launcher home screens are basically unusable at this stage. I hope they fix it soon, but it likely wont be for a while.
This happened on my G1, my Nexus One and my Nexus S.
I finally wised up and installed LauncherPro (on my N1 and NS) and the problem doesn't happen anymore. In fact, LauncherPro is way faster than the default launcher.
The age-old (and largely pointless) debate between LP and ADW aside, the OP already said LP didn't work well for him.
Hit Menu > Manage Applications > Running > Menu > Show Cached Processes > Launcher > Stop > Home
Swiping will work again after that, until the next time the bug occurs. Quicker than rebooting though.

launcher pro vs ADW?
I want to get something new too but I don't want to customize my phone TOO much because of the steep learning curve and having to remember how things work.
Anyone know which of the two is most similar to the stock launcher?

Touchwiz crash/lag when switching to landscape? (Froyo OTA)

When I slide out the keyboard at the home screen after having installed the Froyo release (didn't reflash - just straight install, most of it has been wonderful), it takes about 20 seconds for the icons to reappear. In the meantime, TW seems to have crashed. If I tap the apps icon, it noodles around for about 10 seconds before display the apps.
When I close the keyboard, same mess. If I continuously open and close the slider, it gets much faster, but is anyone else experiencing this? I cleared TW storage, and while it sped up almost instantly, as soon as I added my icons back (almost no widgets), it's back to crazy slowness.
This did NOT happen with DI28 and earlier. I'm running EB13 stock, non-root.
try doing the horizontal screen calibration tool under display settings, but with your phone upside down instead. Just hang the bottom part slightly off the edge of a table and tap calibrate with the screen facing down. It might help

Wiped with the EXE. Worked fine for a while, but after adding 8 icons (no widgets), it does the same thing again. I don't think I've installed anything that runs with background services, so I have no idea what the problem is... no problems when I use ADW, but I'd rather not hog an extra 26MB of RAM...
I'm afraid I jumped the gun on declaring mine cured. When first rotating after closing an app, the delay is still there, but then subsequent rotations are immediate . . . until I run the next app. It is faster without the widget, but not cured.

@Mike, I have no accelerometer-based rotation lag. Accelerometer-based switching is instantaneous. Only when I pull out the keyboard does TW take forever. Can you please confirm which problem the fix addresses? Thanks.
Folks, I posted a poll. I want to see how bad this problem is. For the record, I have the Google Search widget, and 16 icons (3 of them folders) on my main screen. 2 other icons on side screens, no widgets.
That worked for me!
Minor update: I removed EVERY icon on my screen, and it's now switching instantly. It doesn't seem to like folders at all. I'm slowly adding icons to see where the tipping point is... I had about 20 icons in one folder, perhaps it didn't like that. Annoying, because TW 2.5 worked perfectly in that regard.
Even more updates: Touchwiz *hates* the Angry Birds icons. It's causing a nightmare of a switching delay as soon as I add the icons. Should I just switch to ADW or LauncherPro? Any particular pros/cons to each one?
i get a lag when i go to landscape when im texting

Launcherpro redraw fix

I found this fix on a another forum here:

This problem was driving me nuts so I tried it on my Epic and it's worked great so far. Give it a try if you're having similar issues with Launcherpro or other memory intensive launcher like ADW. You'll be glad you did!
Thanks for the tip!

When TE doesn't give you an error message after hitting enter, its usually a good thing I actually did not have the issues w/ redrawing of the homes screen on EF02, but the EXPERIMENTAL 3D App Drawer does give me an issues on GB, were it doesn't scroll properly, it kinda jumps from the top of the drawer to the bottom, not allowing one to select any apps in b/w. I was hoping for this to fix that issue, but it did not....thanks anyways!
There are some additional tips on this forum like setting memory usage and home screen caches to light. Also, disabling auto rotation helps a lot.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2652&hilit=Redraw
I attached a picture of my settings. I also have 3D drawer enabled, droid hack disabled, auto rotate off, memory usage preset and home screen cache type to light. I have five 6 column, 7 row homescreens loaded with widgets and shortcuts, and static wallpaper. I have easily 150+ apps on my phone. It used to redraw 50-70% of the time when exiting an app, now it's smooth as butter. It's totally changed my phone experience for the better.

This seemed to work for GoLauncher as well, it is nice not to have to wait 5 seconds for the launcher to reload every time I browse the web with multiple tabs or play a game for a while.
I'm not sure if it is my imagination but I think my battery life has gotten worse.. I will give it some more time to make sure.
I had this problem and my phone constantly vibrating like something was Force Closing, on stock Launcher. Before I rooted I went to Samsung recovery, and cleared all caches 5 times. And everything was fine, even when I redownloaded LauncherPro using LauncherPro widgets like friend feeds, and calander. Youtube widget and sence analog clock.

Even Go sometimes has this issue. The problem is the memory management is killing the background cache. The only real fix I found was to not have as many constant apps running in the background.

Agreed, the primary reason I use it is for the app drawer folders, makes it much easier to organize/find apps.
The only problem with Go Launcher (other than the previous reloading issue) is with the car dock, it restarts every time it is plugged/unplugged from the dock.
Agree with using Go Launcher EX as well. I jumped from LauncherPro too and never looked back. The devs of Go Launcher EX are constantly updating it and squeezing out the bugs.

Go launcher is laggy. Launcher Pro on the other hand is as fast as touchwiz
Go Launcher was laggy on my first installation but snappy on my second installation. I don't know what changed between the two but it was as quick as LP
I noticed this when I tried GO launcher, almost as if when you swipe between screens there is an ever so slight delay, which is not major, can get a little annoying.
TW is slick and super fast compared

The one on the desktop is minimalist text (for when i swipe the notification bar off).
The one on the notification bar I added using the kitchen app from the market which is for use with the Revolution Rom.
In the kitchen app you just chose a theme/feature, click ok, it downloads, installs and reboots, plus it has many other features in the app like BLN and EDT, kernel change, boot ani change, battery sound on/off, slide glow on/off etc. etc. etc. and kitchen is always being updated.

So why do you prefer the Go launcher over TW?
Things I found I didn't like with GO, the calendar widget on TW especially the month view one I prefer, also mini paper although it works with GO, when you click the plus to add another widget note, it opens TW to tries and add it to one of those screens instead of the Go screen, I use mini paper a lot, best postit note type widget that actually works from the home screens quickly.

I use the memo thing that came with TW the one with the cork background it is really nice.
One of the other nice things about Go ex is that the dock keys can be swiped to give second user defined function, eg open file manager, plus they can be drag and dropped replaced!
Also customisation, icons can be renamed and/or swapped with other icons from other download themes.
I have used both adw ex and LP plus for quite some time, but I really can't see me changing. Even the Go keyboard shocked me with how good it looks and how fast it is, and it has (at a swipe) a T9 keyboard or an arrows keyboard... (iphone theme keys

Hmm it seems Launcher Pro is just as responsive as touchwiz. Is there any way to change dock icons for touchwiz? Also is it possible to set the app drawer icon in the middle as opposed to on the right side?

Possible Software Bug (Performance Related)

I found an issue that causes noticeable lag using the stock launcher, and I think it has to do with text overflow. The bottom shortcuts on the home screen i have set are: Phone - Gmail - Go SMS Pro - Chrome Beta. The "o" in "Pro" gets cut off because the title is too long.
For some reason, if I remove Go SMS Pro, I don't have any lag whatsoever going between homescreens or using scrollable widgets (such as, if you take the music widget, and expand it, then try scrolling through the songs). I promise I'm not being nit-picky; there's a real performance hit in the launcher. I know I'll get a bunch of "just use Apex Launcher/Nova Launcher/some other launcher", but I'd rather not. I didn't want to post this in development because I don't think it's a huge enough issue that warrants investigation; it seems to be more along the lines of poor coding. But I thought it would be worth mentioning.
Interesting find.
Can anybody with stock launcher confirm?
I'm sure it is like you say thou, ppl abandon stock pretty quickly.
