Download Wireless Tether. It comes in handy. Also consider running roms like Epic Unleashed 2.5.

I like JuiceDefender and SetCPU both require root and JuiceDefender has seriously improved my battery life.

wireless tether is a must have app!!!!!

As for things to do first... rename the majority of Moto bloatware... widgets and services that destroy the D2 battery life. I have more than doubled my battery life by doing so and setting brightness to about 10% unless I'm outside. I also personally find my system to be far more stable now that I'm using ADW.launcher instead of the default, but that may just be my imagination.
There's a decent thread on removing/renaming the bloat (renaming instead of removing b/c the phone can run into problems if you straight up delete certain Blur .apk's. Check here for more info:

I would agree. I don't know if we really have a Droid 2 moderator. I haven't really seen one, but maybe we do.

[DISCUSS] Blur-less ROM Comparisons? [With List/Links]

In the last couple of weeks, we've seen a lot of advancements in ROM releases for the X. I don't want to start some kind of flame-war here, but just wondering who has run all, or multiple variations of the available Blur-less ROMS and their opinion of each.

Anyone care to weigh in on their experiences?
I decided to go an make this a list of Blur-less ROMS with links. While most of these have homes other than XDA, I tried to put both the XDA thread link and the "home" link.
Since we are discussing here... I always wanted to know what was the reason you could not remove BLUR??
I mean.. I know the phone wouldn't boot if you removed it WITHOUT a acceptable replacement.
Like I know I removed HTC Sense UI back in the before time and my phone boot looped because I didn't have a another Launcher to replace it with... could this be the same thing?? Could we remove BLUR apps as long as we have a acceptable replacement??
EX. Remove Blur Dialer and replace with Dialer One...or remove Blur Home and replace with LauncherPro....

I have blur home removed and replaced with launcher pro. Do at your own risk though. I know nothing of any other changes that are ok as of yet. I haven't gotten that far.

I'm personally on RubixFocused 0.5 and think it's just great. But I would like to know if some of the others would be worth trying, or if they are all more or less the same.
I know of these ROMS:
1 - Tranquility (Are all of the current ROMS based off of this one?)
2 - Rubix
3 - zapX (Tempted to try this one just because of the name )
4 - Apex

Nice question.
To me the Theme/Rom's do seem very similar. They for the most part delete or freeze a lot of the "blur" packages.
The statement by most chefs is "It's faster". OK how much faster then a 2.2 OTA,rooted, 928Droid themed phone???
Is the boot time "way" faster .Do apps activate in split seconds???
EDIT: Flash Fixed
I hesitate to try the Theme/Roms because most seem to have glitches like "Flash not fully functioning so that I can view weather and radar maps ,as an example.
Zapx does peak my interest though....
I've said it in 2 other forums. The zapX rom is awesome. Its the fastest I've used and I have had just about all of them. To me its about how fast everything reacts. From opening the app drawer, tilting the phone, to activating the camera, which you all know typically takes 4 or 5 seconds. With zapX all of it is almost instantaneous. That's my 2 cents for what its worth.
And by the way. I've had no problems with flash on zapX, only issue was with weatherbug and it was fixed by the creator within a day...

I prefer ApeX. Nearly 100% AOSP. It's the closest thing yet..
I just went from zapX to Apex, to me Apex is snappier, and boots up faster.
they are all pretty much the same but zapX seems to be a little slower than the rest for some reason.
You know you can optimize your apks with xUltimate and essentially your stock ota will be just as snappy.
Add a lil MinFree love... and BOOM!!

Actually, is there a way to just back up your market downloads list? That would be all I needed really, then I could go into the market, go to downloads, reinstall all those apps, then use launcher pro backup to restore my icons etc.

Yeah, if you pay nearly five bucks for it and I'm poor, spent all my money on the DX, lol. The free version will run the batch restore but you have to click "Install" and the "Done" for each and every app...it would be easier to write down all my apps and settings on a piece of paper than F with that, lol.

Just got my G2 whowhoo!! What should i do?

what are apps i need and what does rooting do i was just reading that one click temp root
any advice thanks alot i am also new to rooting
Let me first say, CONGRATULATIONS!
At the beginning, forget rooting.
Here is what I did:
1. Mess with all Android settings.
2. Put tons of music, videos, photos, roms, etc, onto memory card.
3. Set ringtone, wallpaper, organize homescreen, and do "basic" customization.
4. Set up Google Voice(most people don't have this as a main step, but I do since I love this app )
5. Download must-have apps(for me gameboid is one), install, and set them up.
6. Sync all accounts, get contacts on the phone.
7. Disable things you will not use, such as the photobucket app.
8. Whatever you want, now you can root
While doing this, I would recommend running the battery from 100% to 0% and using a battery measuring app such as battery left inorder to "calibrate" your battery. Whether this is a myth or fact on whether it improves your battery life, since I see people arguing on this a lot, it can't hurt to do it.
He pretty much covered it.
Just enjoy the phone and have fun with it bro.

you might also want to get an invisible shield or a case of some sort to protect the phone as well
If you don't like bloatware, take a look at this thread.
Honestly, doing temp root on the G2 is absurdly easy with the VISIONary app (mentioned in that thread).
so what exactly is the point of a ROOT what will i be able to do other than overclock?

Have you clicked on the "problems" key in the homepage of Titanium? It's prompt you to download the latest version on busybox, press yes. Also is superuser giving it permission.

Gingerblur

I realize that gingerblur is a modded rom, but im afraid to test it. Can anyone that uses it tell me what it looks like, how fast it is or what the benefits are?
Is gingerblur deodexed?
Sent from my Atrix using XDA App
Hey buddy I just read your thread about the update. Currently Gingerblur is not compatible with the newest firmware, so unless you feel like flashing the sbf again and then flashing Gingerblur, just wait until they update it for 1.5.7
I've been holding off on the update since I really like GB, it looks really great on my phone and the built in mods are quite useful for me. Yes, it is deodexed, and you may or may not notice a performance bump because of that but really the main benefits are that it looks real nice. Since we don't have custom kernels there isn't much we can modify performance wise quite yet.
Nothing to be afraid of installing or testing it, this is my first android phone and after less than a month I'm starting to get comfortable flashing, reflashing, and doing simple adb commands.

I'm also new to droid, the atrix being my first google phone, but I found gingerblur a piece of cake to install and configure. Looks tidy as, and maybe it's my imagination, but it definitely seems faster than Froyo.
I haven't used GladiAtrix though, so can't comment there.
Basically, it's a walk in the park to install and remove, so I'd say, if you're curious, just give it a test.
I guess I can try to find a script to remove gladiatrix and then try gingerblur

Gingerblur is awesome, and it is now compatible with the most recent update. Goto the DEV section and there are a lot of screenshots on the first page of the gingerblur post.
Yeah Gingerblur is pretty neat. It's not making any massive strides in changing the phone, but it cleans up a lot, and I think it looks a lot better. The upgrade process can be pretty long, but isn't particularly technical.
Yup, I'm a gingerblur fan now. It seems snappier(if possible!?), and GO launcher is silky smooth. Directions seem daunting at first, but once you read it thru once, you'll realize how easy they made it.
Gingerblur rocks the house! I'm running 1.57 with gingerblur on launcher pro (even better!). Yes, it deodexes your framework.

So if your running launcher pro anyway, what are you benefiting from? The status bar icons and lock screen theme?
Ps I think the gingerbread keyboard looks nice, but I type like crap on it. I even practiced for an hour and the buttons are just too small or something.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Gingerblur basically just a mod/theme bundle? Still running the same basic froyo package, just with a bunch of mods rolled into one and a nice looking gingerbread-ish theme...

Right. Well to some extent. The reason I'm running the newest 1.1 version is it got me familiar with all of the stuff yet to come. Tenfar's CWM recovery works great and the updates from now on will be seamless so that was a huge plus. It looks like a painstaking process, but in reality it goes pretty quick if the directions are followed. Plus the added bonus of the bloatware being removed professionally and the gingerbread aesthetics give it the gold medal in my book.

Backup apps with titanium backup first off... and no installing gingerblur will not remove any apps, other than the stock Motoblur / bloatware apps & widgets. But these can be re-installed with the restore bloatware.zip, also found on the gingerblur download page.

Just the opposite. Gingerblur gets rid of all the moto bloat that bogs down the phone and wastes battery.

How make make my phone better.

Anyone have any tips that I could use to make my Android/Atrix experience better.
Any tips?
*Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Oh sorry, didn't see it. Don't need to swear at me.
Here is my tip from my shallow experience with the phone and android.
1. do factory reset after your phone has been fully charged to 100% for 4hours-ish while its turned off
2. get before update root
3. update to 1.57
4. do the post update root
5. get titanium backup pro and go to the freeze the applications under the safelist.
6. get an launcher (I bought launcherpro plus, but i think just launcherpro is just as good... because the only major perks i've noticed was the launcherpro widgets and widget resizing)
7. freeze the motoblur home(after installing another launcher like lpp)
8. download screengrabber app (it works on rooted phone and I like using it, you may not need a screen capture program)
9. do the webtop mod if you want to try it. you need android sdk first to do adb commands. (I tried it to see how lapdock would feel like and I found it pretty good)
I love launcher pro, as it looks so nice!!! 3d app drawer and home screen flipping animations, and overall so many settings you can customize. (# of app row, column etc)

No need to be so hostile... There has been alot of hate on the forum lately. I know it gets annoying when the new users start asking questions that can be found by searching. But, you have two sensible choices: 1. give them some tips so they know what to search for, or 2. don't reply to thread and let the thread die off...

and if you're feeling real brave??.... You could root the **** out of it and flash gingerblur or gladiatrix or the newest rom greyblur!! Im about to flash greyblur right now!
If you want a gingerbead look to your phone, as well as getting rid of the hideous white notification bar, you should try out GingerBlur, a pseudo-rom for the Atrix.
GrayBlur has also been released, which I'll be trying out shortly.
Get a launcher. If you have the money (15$) I would buy SPB Shell. That is one amazing launcher. Or just get one of the many others like ADW, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, etc.
If you want to tether (data plan required), go to the dev section to get the tethering APN for mobile hotspot.
Install Tenfar's custom bootstrap recovery. Allows you to flash ROMs.
Install the Amazon App market. A free paid app a day (games too).
And last but not least: check out the themes section. Lots of cool themes and boot images.

How do I disable MotoBlur using TiBu?
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
Get GO Launcher EX. It's so much smoother than stock, you'll love it. I just returned to it after using LauncherPro Plus for a few weeks. Features on LauncherPro are great, but it had some stability issues for me, and GO Launcher is MUCH smoother and consistent for me. There are a lot of themes for it as well.

No, because then who are the dumb a$$es going to blame and bug if it does not work, or breaks something.
Not a smart idea for a dev to post something that they are not sure of, and possibly have people lose faith in that developer. I know as a dev I would not post ANYTHING, that I was not sure if it worked or not. Even if I did it on a test unit, and not a retail phone.

Send me the stock boot image please so I can root it.
Mark.
Unless you're going to install a custom ROM, it's not as important anymore to root these phones.
The SIII lets you uninstall [disable] almost any stock app you want.
After disabling a ****-load of stock apps, I am getting awesome battery & performance from my S III.
I'd like to see some theming and custom ROM's and overclocking though of course.

Eh, that's debateable. In the end it boils down to what you want to do with the device. For me? I want root so I can reinstall Cerberus to the System folder so even if someone wipes my phone, I can still track it. Can't do that without root.

Yell at me if u want but there's 1000's of us that would take this back to the store if there was no Root; )

Actually most of the AT&T stuff can be disabled. The only thing I really can't disable is AT&T Address Book. Other than that? Every AT&T App (all 5 of them) was able to be disabled.....so I'm not sure what you speak of.

Yea, this is actually the first AT&T Smartphone where I haven't cursed them out for the amount of bloatware installed. Granted I did immediately load Apex Launcher to tide me over until I can install CM9. I hate how touchwiz looks, but that's not AT&T, that's Samsung. This thing honestly speeds along, especially with websites. I'm also apparently in an LTE test area.....with a piss poor signal I was pulling about a 20mbit download and 13 mbit upload. I have to say, it's faster and more responsive than my GSII with CM9. That's impressive considering it is running TW.
Also from looking at his posts he did order it....so he could be using the GNex until he can. Though this pretty much is the GNex....just not running stock Android.
