Anyone know where the wallpapers are stored on the phone.
I second this. I took an image and set it as wallpaper (not stored in the usual gallery app) and then later changed the wallpaper. Can I get the image back?
Where did you get the image from...was it one you downloaded or was it pre-installed on the phone.

If you're referring to the built-in "Samsung Wallpapers"... I can't find them either.
I'm betting their not just .jpgs sitting in a directory somewhere...
will keep looking
They should be in the stock tw launcher apk, haven't looked cause I don't have the apk anymore.
They are located within the launcher .apk files.
Found these

Go into camera app > take a picture > set image as the wallpaper. Now delete this image from your gallery/sd card ......the deleted image is still your wallpaper even after restarting the phone! Which means it must be stored somewhere else besides the sd card when being used as the background. I want to know where this is because I had an old image I once set as background that I changed away from, and I need the image back.

I've believe I seen a how to around here somewhere about how to keep images or certain folders with images from showing up on the G1s picture viewer.
I got some pictures I dont need people seeing when they look though my pictures stored on my SD card.
I would like to be able to view them in ASTRO or something similar or when I mount my SD card to a PC. Maybe a certain app can disable certain folders?

I just put a period in front of each folder. Like from "folder" to ".folder"
and reboot. Voila! Probably won't work for apps that need to access that specific directory though.
Haha, u get the pix from the chicks 2, I c, but yea put them in a folder and put a "." in front of the folder name like binary said, and reboot

There is indeed an app that will hide files. It is called "Hide & Seek" and acts like just another Flashlight app. After launching the app you hit the Menu button three times and enter a password. Then you can "View" or hide additional files... I have found it very useful to hide content such as the pics downloaded by the "Phandroid" app which would show up in the picture viewer...
You guys are awesome and lifesavor, thanks. We need a rep system or something like other forums have.
wow, ive been looking for a way to do this without the app, never thought of putting a . in there, nice work guys
The way the app does it, is it changes the nome from "pic.jpg" to "pic.kpg.hide"
mmm

I have tried this from within Windows, but it doesnt allow me. Do you have to change the name from the phone directly?
thanks

Yeah, you have to do it on the phone.
Using ASTRO is how I did it. I renamed the folder with the "." in front of it, (Long press folder>Edit>Rename) then you can set ASTRO to view files as thumbnails, (Menu>View>Change View>Thumbnail Icons) and then browse the picture folder in ASTRO. When you click a picture, you can set it to open in the native View Picture or in ASTRO's picture viewer, your choice.
backup
Make sure you have a backup copy of ur pics before u try this. For some reason when i put .folder whenever i reboot, it deleats all my pics in that folder! Did it 5 times in a row, but i had backups on my comp. If i put .pic for file name then it still shows up. Gonna just change the file extension i guess and see how that works...
Anyone else have any probs like this?

Yeah... Astro... Linda... whatever you use should allow you to add the . in front of the name. You need to reboot for the changes to go into effect.
I have searched, and searched, and searched. Is it possible to change the wallpaper on Android on HD2? I'm using darkstones froyo most recent, and the 7/23 zimg. Everytime i search it always comes up with the obvious, press and hold home, tap wallpapers, etc... but i've copied pictures to my phone, put it in every folder and they never show up. Even when i use a file manager to find my pictures, they show up, but when i tap them. it's just a black screen. Is this one of the bugs/kinks? If so i'd like to know so i can stop fiddling with it...they are .jpg
Thanks in advance
(now watch, someone is gonna search and get it first result)
when the wallpaper app cant find the pictures I want to use I apply them using astro file manager.
If your transferring pictures while in Android' they wont work - while USB mode appears to be working i don't think it can write data to your card correctly so effectively your getting corrupt images.
If you transfer them in Windows before booting into Android you'll have more luck.
Also there's a decent Wallpaper app on the market called Zedge which allows you to download and apply wallpaper direct from the app - highly reccomended.
I got it. Close the thread.
Apparently, all the pictures i uploaded, all transfered over, but they all showed up as 0 bytes, deleted, re-uploaded. Worked. Sorry for the waste of space, shoulda caught it before.
Edit, actually before I go, does anyone know the resolution? 600x800? :x
The best resolution is 960x800
Cheers
Paul
I've tried searching for this, but mainly come against various versions of "how do I set a wallpaper?" To avoid confusion, I'll just explain the situation.
A friend set an image from the Facebook app as my wallpaper. I like the photo, but just not as my wallpaper, so I wanted to copy and repurpose it. The issue is that I don't know where the image is saved.
I did find one page saying it was somewhere in /data, but that directory is empty for me, so I'm guessing that Samsung (stock EC05 rom) is using a different directory for saved background images. Any ideas where that might be?
i don't think it saves to the phone if you just set as wallpaper, it has to be downloaded..it kind of just copied it and pasted it to your background

You mean like saved in a clipboard? That seems unlikely since user wallpapers are persistent if you turn the phone off and back on, but then again I'm not too familiar with Android to know that it wouldn't do that. I'm still thinking it has to save somewhere ...

i duplicated exactly what you did, i set a pic from my facebook app as wallpaper instead of downloading and copied the image name so i could try and find it easier.. by using root explorer it searched every directory for that image coming up with 0 results, even tho its set as my wallpaper. i then took an image from my sd card and placed it in a data folder and it still appeared in my gallery. so if it is indeed in your phone you would still see it in gallery no matter the directory unless it is in a zipped folder which a pic from facebook wouldn't be... if you want to store that pic on your phone go to the facebook website in browser and make sure you download pic instead of set as wallpaper lol let me know if any of that confused you lol
No, I understood perfectly, thanks for looking into it! I don't even have a facebook account, my girlfriend was using my phone, but the picture itself is VGA resolution (or worse) scaled to fit, and makes a horrible background for an 800 verticle height.
I want to use my own image as the wallpaper, wheres the option? Where do I put the image?
Long press the home page anywhere there isnt a shortcut icon,it will give you an option for wallpaper.
Then select gallery and it shows all the images gallery auto detects,I put mine in downloads but image folder would work as well.
Ah thanks. I knew how to change it, just assumed I needed to tell it where the images were. Not actually transferred any yet.
You can put the images anywhere in the /sdcard folder. The gallery app should automatically find the image. I usually just end up making a folder called "Wallpapers" and put all my wallpaper images there.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Stop... MUFFIN TIME!!!
As a Nexus 7 user you have a Google account, just upload your images to your picasa page. Then when you open your gallery you will see them there as its linked to that space.

You don't have to have a google account to use a nexus, even a stock one. I personally don't agree with googles data collection and retention policies, so I have a firewall blocking most of the google apps I use (they still work, just can't phone home) and I don't use picassa. If I did though, uploading it to there only to download it again onto my tablet seems a bit redundant when I can just transfer it instantly via usb and tweak it on the fly. I appreciate the suggestion though.
By default screenshots are saved to the camera location, so Google Photos automatically backs them up.
How do we change that location?
Bump....
This is very annoying
I have the same issue - any workarounds?
Any?
I thought I was the only person this bothered. And it's weird because it doesn't do this on any older galaxys
There doesn't seem to be an option to change the location where screenshots are saved, no.
Just turn off auto backup in Google photos.
Or just stop taking screenshots of women full stop.
Mine saves to folder named "Screenshots", so not sure why yours would be different? Now, if Google backs up screenshots directory to cloud, take it up with Google, maybe there is a setting to choose which directory should be saved (cam pictures are saved to directory /DCIM/camera, screenshots to /DCIM/screenshots ), I don't use cloud for back up, since I use my laptops for that, so can't help you with settings.

Haven't tried this bug you can do a symbolic link from internal to sfcard for whatever folder you want using ln command.
PinSync
Hi, I was looking into this issue today and just found a solution. It's an App called PinSync. ( I can't post links yet... look for it on the PlayStore.)
It detects whenever a screenshot is taken and instantly moves it to another folder, so it's not displayed or uploaded into Google Photos.
I hope it helps you guys as well...
Try below:
Go to the DCIM folder, then Sreenshot folder. At the screenshot folder, add a new file with the name " .nomedia".
It does not change the storage location of screenshot files, but the screenshots will not be displayed in Camera anymore.
I think Google Photo should add an option of how often to backup pictures. Some pictures like screenshots are not meant to be saved for a long time.

If you don't fancy paying 89p for PinSync from the Google Playstore, you can download Automate for free, and very quickly and easily make a script that moves any files that appear in one folder to another
Try to move it and move it back again it's work for me

How to add new file ?
I've found that if you are really hellbent on using Google Photos and save your photos to the SD Card via your stock camera app, then when you view the "Library" on the Google Photo app there are two Camera folders. The one without the SD Card icon is where the Screen shots will reside, and the one with the SD Card icon are where your camera photos will be.

Not yet, but I've fed back to Google to update their Photos app. Check out Google Files app. It does categorise the Screenshots folder, so I'm pointing it out to Google dev to address it. It is kind of silly..... Why do they do this for one app and not the other?
