[Q] Phone randomly shutting down - Fascinate General

Twice today my phone shut itself off. Full battery, have the case/holster combo from vzw. Thought maybe it was over heating and shutting itself off. Both times it has happen I had it in my holster. Is this happening to anyone else, any ideas?

You rooted? Do you have SetCPU installed along with profiles? That is the only thing that ever rebooted my phone, or more like crashed it.

Yea im rooted and have CWM installed. I did have hot root and setcpu installed, they were the last two things I installed before the problems so I uninstalled them and it still shutdown.

I used to have that problem with setCPU also.
I don't know, it just went away after a day or so.

Phone Reboots Randomly

I'm running DamageControl 2.07.
I happened to be up in the middle of the night, and I caught my phone randomly restarting. I've seen it happen before but didn't pay it any mind before, but now this is starting to bother me.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I have this too. Running DC 2.07.2 and when I'm doing something normal (tweeting on Touiteur, texting, etc.) and the phone doesn't actually reboot, it just..... shuts off. This happens at any battery level from 100 to 0. I turn it on and it's fine, but.... it's really annoying.
Yep i experienced this with all the new Rom base on DC. i dont really know how to fix but changing to an other Rom will fix it. The problem is almost all the new 2.1 Roms that came out are base on Dc so i flashed DarchLegend 5.0.5 and its been 3 days and my phone hasn't done that yet
noticed this too when running regaws mod. flashing darch now with the darchstar theme, gunna give it a go.
anyone know of a white taskbar(with 3g) for darchs latest rom?
I've had this happen to me even with stock 1.5, lol.
I don't know what causes it, it's a pain in the ass. It happened a few times after I rooted too. Lately I haven't had this problem anymore.
my phone rebooted on its own last night, second time thats happened. there was talk of this about 2 weeks ago and the thought is this is a battery issue, apparently a couple people bought new batteries and the rebooting didn't happen after.
Alright this is starting to really bother me now. It's rebooting like 3 times a day now. I keep thinking my phone is hacked.
It's happened to me before on 1.5... I was going to charge my phone overnight while I slept, and no matter what I did, I couldn't keep the damn thing to stay off. Everytime I kept plugging it in, it would just turn on again. Eventually I just pulled the battery, put it back in, and plugged it in and stayed off.
this is the first thread i read upon my return from being banned for 7 days. this sh*t scared the living f*ck outta my a**
ahem
sorry
it happened to me right after i installed the latest regawmod
i simple wipe and fresh flash fixed the issue immediatly
i also pulled my battery, and my nandroid was corrupted
i was scared. i was like damn, 7 says and i come back to this?!

Unable to wake - have to pull battery

Has anyone else experienced this?
Sometimes (5-6 times in the last 24 hours) when the phone is sleeping, it will not wake when I hit power/unlock. I have tried installing no lock, hoping it was a glitch in the lock screen, but it still happens. The only way to fix it is to pull the battery.
Any advice?

Are you running setcpu? Mine was doing this when I would lower the speed with a screen off profile. I just uninstalled setcpu for now. I don't think the kernel supports it anyway.

No, I had it, but since I can't overclock yet, there was no need to keep it installed. I did a factory reset, so we'll see if this fixes things.

let us know how it goes... If you experienced any unable to wakes after the reset...
Seems to be working fine. I'm not sure what the problem WAS, but the reset seems to have fixed it.
Root and busybox were still intact. Had to re-do the lag fix. (Method 1)
I'll update if I get the issue again.
My phone is just so...VIBRANT
Samething happened to me yesterday morning. Woke up found my phone wouldn't go back up. I thought it was dead, until I pulled the battery. I haven't Root hack it or installed SetCPU.
Sorry to throw this issue in this topic, but anyone have any problem with the phone rotating sideway for WEB and Messaging? I thought when I first got it, it worked.. now it doesnt..
There is probably a common app here or something causing this because I don't ever recall hearing this type of issue with the Vibrant before this thread.
I had the same thing happen to me and found after much trial and error that when I pulled my SD card out I was then able to wake the phone up. Apparently there was some problem with my SD (I was using it with my previous phone..MT3G) that was causing the Media scanning process to get stuck.
I ended up backing up what I needed from the SD and reformatting it. Since then I haven't had any issues. We may or amy not have the same root cause but hopefully this does help.
I'm thinking the problem HAS to be software related. After the reset, I've reinstalled everything I had before, and it's working like a charm! I've even used Titanium Backup to remove a lot of the bloatware, and still ruining great!
I just wish we could get a logcat, but when it happens, the phone is dead until you pull the battery.

I am almost 100% SETCPU is the problem..
My phone would not come out of sleep.. I had to pull the battery and when I turned it on it would say "auto update of time and date".. That made me think the phone lost its internal battery and the phone was bad..
It started doing it right after I configured SETCPU... I installed the program last Thursday but never clicked on it.. I set it for on demand and that is when it started not coming out of sleep..
So I removed SETCPU and it still would not come out of sleep..
So I did a wipe all user data and it started working fine.. I installed SETCPU and it was still working fine.. I setup SETCPU for performance and it started messing up again and not coming out of sleep..
So, I wiped all user data again last night and it has been working perfectly since.. So I do not plan on reinstalling SETCPU...

Non-rooted Vibrant random restart?

It seems to happen after the phone has been on for an extended amount of time. I don't have lag, and I'm not using the gps when it happens. In fact, it usually happens when I sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? My phone is not modified. I'm even running plain touch whiz. I'm considering returning if I can't resolve with a hard reset. No third party apps are running when this occurs. I routinely close processes before I stop using the phone. I love this phone, I'm just worried I have a bad unit.
i'm having a similar issue, but with a rooted vibrant. the problem has spanned across two different handsets. the first one i rooted almost out of the box. but after a few days it started locking up after sitting for a while and i would have to pull the battery to get it to come back on. so i returned it, got a new one and held off rooting it to see if this one would do the same thing. the non rooted one had no problems at all, so i bit the bullet and rooted this one too, and sure enough later that same day it started doing the same freezes when trying to unlock it.
as soon as i rooted the second phone i downloaded rom manager and made a nandroid backup. after the backup i proceeded to remove some of the bloat, like dual clock, the startup/shutdown sounds, and some of the other crap that the vibrant comes with. i also installed and started up setcpu. it seemed that after i did all of this is when the freezes started up again. so i did a restore to before i removed all that stuff and now the phone is fine again. what is it about my process that is making this phone lock up like this?
EDIT: nevermind...i found some other people with the same problem in a setcpu thread...seems setting the sleep profile too low will cause the phone to not wake up after sitting too long
Uh, I'm not getting any freezing, but I know there is an issue with SetCPU. A certain setting will causes problems on the Vibrant. My issue is just unexpected reboots after the phone has been on for approximately 170 hours.
I had many random restarts and general craziness from my non rooted stock vibrant. A factory restore fixed all problems.

Yeah, if it happens again I'm going to try a factory reset.

Soo annoying, CM7 rooted G2 just died, no rhyme or reason

My T-Mobile USA G2 has been rooted running CM7 stable with no issues for a few months now. I reboot the phone a few times per week. Everything has been great for months, then all of a sudden my battery was low and the phone started to slow down. I figured it was just setCPU lowering the CPU down to the 245mhz I had it set to. Then all of a sudden it froze, I had to pull the battery, I thought that was kind of weird, but figured what the hell, why not. A good reboot can't hurt, right?
WRONG.
I put the battery back in and at the boot animation (blue arrow circling Android on a skateboard above "Cyanogen Mod 7" banner) shows up, but the arrow starts to stutter, then the screen dims -> then goes black. So I figure the time out activated, no big deal. Then I realize I can't wake hte phone up! No matter what I did, if I plugged it into my PC, the screen would come on (lock screen) but it wouldn't register any touching of the screen, therefore I couldn't unlock the phone, and it would just time out again.
I ended up having to reboot into CWM and do a Wipe Data and re-install of CM7 from my SD card for it to work!! I tried wiping dalvik cache, battery stats, etc... everything except for wiping Data, but nothing worked. I HAD to wipe my data and re-install the OS...
Anyone know why this happened? Or what could have caused it? At this point I downloaded the newer version (7.0.3) and after wiping installed that, now I have to re-download all of my apps and re-setup all of my settings (extreme pain in the @$$ and very time consuming)...
Thanks in adv.
Do a search, I thought there was some issue with low cpu speeds and waking the phone up from sleep. Basically, the cpu is undervolted and doesn't have enough juice to turn the screen back on.
Search around.. it's on here somewhere. In the meantime, increase your min cpu speed.
maybe in here?

Thanks, I had read about that prior to setting my phone up, and that had never caused an issue for months... I don't get why it would all of a sudden cause an issue?
Also, I couldn't even get to my desktop to change the min CPU speed... no matter how long I waited, the phone wouldn't wake/wouldn't let me unlock it...
I ended up having to wipe the phone clean and re-install a fresh install... in the new install I have the min cpu higher than it was before.

Random shut down

Today I picked up my phone up to send a text and it was no longer powered up. It had randomly shut down.
When I switched it on again I noticed it has lost its battery stats so looks like they were reset or lost. There were no user apps installed on the phone either.
Have you had a similar experience?
You could try to reset it or take it back. Could be defective!!!
Was it somewhere it was hot? Maybe the phone got too warm and hit the shutdown temp?
Honestly hard (read impossible) to tell you what happened. Have any more info / logs?
I haven't had any issues with heat or shutdowns at all. I get 6+ hours SoT every single day at 75% brightness. 100% stock and unrooted. I use my N5 for all the modding aspects like V4A, Xposed, etc. I want this one for Android pay.
Anyways my uptime has been running since I unboxed it on 11/9/15. No issues.
I actually had it reboot in my pocket yesterday on the first day i had it but I already installed a custom ROM so no testing it out now.

It was only room temperature. Here in England at 18cc so not too hot, but good point.
I read about the same thing happening with a N5 and it turned out to be a defective mother board.
Guess I should return today then... Bummer
If you just got it, might want to see if it happens again. I had one random reboot the first day and its been fine since.
My phone has started doing the same thing. Twice in 3 hours.
Same here...... 3 times reboot..... And now 2 times shutdowns.
I started having random reboots after I installed greenify. I tried several settings but had the same problem. It rebooted 5 or 6 times a day. I uninstalled it and haven't had any more problems.
I had my phone shut off yesterday and wouldn't boot until I plugged it in (it was at 80% battery). I then noticed that once it booted, it had deleted all of my paired Bluetooth devices.

Was just having the same problem but it was happening every 30 seconds to a few minutes. Deactivated greenify's device admin ability and now it's gone. Hopefully it stays that way, though if it comes to uninstalling it, that's fine since there don't seem to be as many background apps running on the 6P compared to my verizon LG G4.
Nevermind had to uninstall it.
Shut down, and a little warm
My nexus 6p shut down nearly every day, I just picked it up and it was shut down, I looked under battery and I could see it has been shut down for hours.. hope somebody knows anything about this problem.. I don't think a hard reset will help, because when I got the phone I installed all the update to Android 6.01 (MMB29M) and then I did a hard reset to make sure the phone was as good as it could be..
But maybe I'll try one more hard reset, just to be 110% sure

I'm having this problem too. It happens a couple times a day, and I think it always happens right after I pull it out of my pocket and try to unlock it. I'll feel the vibration from the Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor, but then the screen doesn't turn on. So I try the power button, and nothing happens because the device is suddenly off. So then I hold down the power button to turn it on, and it boots normally.
Someone mentioned this happening with stock software, which makes me think it's a hardware problem, so we'll need replacement devices. However, I do have Xposed and GravityBox installed, so I need to rule those out first by removing them for a while.
I've had the phone for two weeks now and so far this happened twice.
The only two things that come to mind:
- enabling SRGB in the dev settings
- using a bluetooth headset
Has anybody pinpointed whether this is a HW or SW issue!?
How common is this ... I've seen ppl complaining in this thread and in Reddit also on random reboots as well
Thx
Still happening...
I am having the same issue. Did the reset to factory with no help. Phone was not hot, was sitting on my desk with 81% charged battery. This is the 3rd or 4th time in a week it just shuts itself off for no reason. Has anyone found anything??
I'm having this problem too, now on DVP 3 it's even worse. But I notice today that alarm clock works, but the screen won't. So I think is a SW related, the screen won't wake up, and after a while if you press the buttons the phone reboots. Anyone have e ideas how to fix this?

facing this problem since may security update, on purenexus , dirty unicorn and rr rom. dont know if it hw or sw or simply power button getting pressed accidently.
I think I need to reopen this post, coz' I've been facing thif problems for so many times this week so I google around and come to this post.
Has anyone come to a workaround or point out if it is software or hardware related yet...? If it's hardware then I think I'm gonna go for a replacement then!!!
If you haven't done so already, go vote in the "early shutdown" poll
