"Gallery" Force Closing - root cause? - EVO 4G General

I have been rooted for a few weeks now, no real issues to speak of, but lately my gallery force closes each time I try to access one of it's sub folders. This is making doing any kind of customization quite difficult because I can't access wallpaper, icons, anything. Any ideas on what may be causing this or what I should do to try and fix it? I may just try doing a factory wipe/reset and then reload my rom, kernel, and mods. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

If you were using one of Konikubs themes, the gallery force close was a known issue. Bigrushdog released fixes for all of those themes yesterday.

Will you please point me to these fixes? And this is dumb but I don't even remember which theme I flashed....but it was mainly to get what I think is called the vanilla lock screen. Does that help? Lol. Thanks btw

Yes, I have the same problem. Also want to organize icons in seperate windows but sometimes they move.
Same problem on JPA and JPO (not sure if I had this on JM1)
EDIT: It seems to also happen when I install new applications, don't even have to reboot to see the problem.

Just for info are these the apps which are on the SD card? If yes, then move these to phone. Just a shot in the dark. Thought it might work.

no, all installed apps get mixied up...
Hi,
having the exact same problem as described. Tried different versions of Darky's ROM, currently running on 9.3. Extreme. But also experienced on 9.2. Can't remember if it occured on preinstalled Samsung Froyo.
Isn't there really any solution to this ? It's really annoying not to have an option to sort your icons when they keeps messing up after reboot.
What ROMs are you having, guys ?

Looks like lots of things can move your icons update of apps can shift stuff around .
But if you are not updating> factory resetting etc then the apps should stay where they are on a stock rom after a reboot .

Solution
Guys, this issue has a relatively simple solution, the problem is with your touchwiz not saving correctly setting, do the following:
Go to Settings > Applications > All
In here, go find TwLauncher and click it, DON'T click force stop now just click the "clear data" button.
After this, your icons will mess around again, ordered alphabetically, just restart phone.
That should do it, next time you organize your apps they should stay where you left them.
I hope it help you guys, cheers!
EDIT:
If the above wasn't enough (in most cases it should), you can try to get Root Explorer and go to:
/dbdata/databases/
find the com.sec.android.app.twlauncher folder and delete it.
This is harmless, but it will again order alphabetically your apps, this folder will be restored again on next boot, so restart phone after.

Clearing the data worked for me! Thank you very much!
Didn't try deleting com.sec.android.app.twlauncher but instead clearing works. More feedback pls
I had the problem, changed ROM and solved.

ICS 4.03 - AppDrawer lag

Hi,
is anyone els having lags opening the ICS apprawer?
is there any chance to resolve this "problem"?
ICS realy feals smooth, except starting the appdrawer...
Yup - It's the only lag I experience, nothing I've tried has an effect including forcing 2D acceleration, limiting background processes, changing animation and transition timings and not keeping activities.
For me it's a slight stutter rather than lag, the app draw itself would load much better if the launch animation was turned off. I believe it's related to a bottleneck in the systems memory bus.
Yep! I've experienced lag on the App Drawer with every ROM I've tried for my NS4G. I'm starting to wonder if the NS can handle ICS properly.
Agreed. Its one of those things that really puts me off and i would REALLY want a fix for this
I had really bad lag on my i9023 until I did a factory reset, after that it's a different phone. Know of quite a few others that found the same so may be worth a try (if you haven't already that is)
Not many responses to this thread, but I can honestly say that I do not experience any app drawer lag at all. i9020T 4.0.3 stock/rooted.
i got too... with stock and alternative launcher, really annoying thing.. had a fade to black effect even when i close an app...
and I know is off topic... but why my phone has rotation disbled??? all check are flagged!! why why and why!!!
edit 2: rotation issue solved just rebooting.. how noob!!!
I definitely get the stutter.
I even went as far as giving the launcher process higher priority but it made no difference.
Specifically I tried
renice -15 `pgrep com.android.launcher`

I'm pretty sure it has to do with loading the widgets as they are connected to the apps in the new drawer. Cm9 has an option that disables the connection between the apps and widgets, solves 99% of the problem. Glad this thread was made as I was getting crucified by delusional members over this issue. Blind allegiance ftw I guess

Yes, CM9 launcher fixes the issue for me too as long as you tick to have widgets separated from main apps.

I did try factory reset, and after that ive done some testing, launcher still lag...no change...maybe at the begging i thought its better, but when you run for example browser than exit from it and press menu it lags again...
so i believe for people that have lag in launcher (like me) factory reset is not solution...
we will have to wait for community fix or google fix ...

I have the exact same issue. The closest I have gotten to getting rid of it is what I have now.
Peter Alfonso December 20 nightly with glad os 2.2 with lazy governor. Its almost completely gone.
And I completely wipe everything and restore manually EVERY TIME I install a new ROM .
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I also do experience a small lag when I launch it the first time, but that doesn't bother me too much, to be honest. I'm having more of a lag when I want to return to the app drawer from an application, it takes a two or three to close it.

Competely Remove TW Launcher?

Even using Go Launcher HD I have a couple moments where the ROM hangs after I hit the Home button. Anyone else get this? I'm tempted to just completely remove the TW launcher. Anyone done it? A list of safe to remove bloatware would be nice, but I haven't seen one yet. I tried uninstalling some of the VZW apps and it caused a boot loop. Scared me, but luckily I had enough time in between reboots to install an app at a time.
Anyone removed TW completely?

You should be able to use any launcher you want with no issues. I wouldn't just simply delete TwLauncher though.

Not easily to my knowledge. I mean, anything is possible, but the sad truth is that we have very little development for this device, so all the things you would like to do with it simply have not received attention.

Trouble installing 3rd party apps.

I'm trying to install some of the Humble Indie Bundle 6 games on my N4 and I'm running into a problem I've never faced before. The APK files download just fine, but when it comes to actually opening them to start the installation, it won't install. The button that says "install" does nothing when I press it. I checked in my security settings and "unknown sources" are allowed. I included screenshots of both these in the attached files. I even tried un-selecting the "verify apps" option, in case the humble bundle app had been removed from their white list for some reason, it still won't install.
I thought it might be a bug with the Humble Bundle beta app so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it, but it too is getting stuck on the installation. It downloads just fine but it won't install. I've tried rebooting my phone, still no luck. I'm on the latest Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Has anyone else been getting this problem, or does anyone have any idea on how I could fix it? I didn't pay much for the games but it sort of sucks to have bought them and be unable to play any of them like this.
I'd like to try with some more third party apps to see if it's all of them, or if it's just the Humble Bundle APKs that are causing me trouble (if it's the later I can probably contact Humble Bundle and ask them for assistance), but I'm not familiar with those. Could someone please recommend some good safe ones I can test out?
My humble bundle beta installed fine. So at least you know the app should work. Sorry can't help you more. Hopefully someone else has a solution. Silly question... have you tried rebooting?

are you running paranoid android? disable halo, or so ive read.
Any app that requires permission to draw over other apps can potentially cause what you're experiencing. Examples include but are not limited to:
- the HALO feature in PA ROMs
- Screen filter apps
- Other floating apps

Could any of that happen if I haven't rooted?
Also,
I've just tried to reinstall TubeMate, another third party app I like. It's APK also refuses to install, which probably means there's a problem with my phone and not just the Humble Bundle app. I'm starting to think I'll have to factory reset the phone, which is certainly do-able, just... not very fun.

Yes, this can happen without root access. I've seen your problem addressed several times in multiple forums and ALL of them is because of a floating app.
Look through your app list. Is there ANY app that, as a feature, floats on top of other apps?
Eg, Facebook Messenger, Screen Filter, Floating Stickies, AirCalc, etc
Just force stop them and you should be able to sideload apk's again.

The phone says 1.68 GB are free, but when I plug it into my desktop it tells me 1.57 GBs. So... somewhere between those two.
EDIT:
Found it... It was the Twilight app (no, not THAT Twilight... lol), it's an app that tints the whole screen a slight redish color so it doesn't hurt my eyes too much when I use the phone in the evening. That must count as a "floating". The moment I disabled that I was able to successfully install the APK. YOU SIR, ohyearar, have won a thanks.

Widgets are showing incorrect thumbnails, any one else?

Is this an omni bug or Android 4.4.4 bug? I tried searching but couldn't find any input about this. Check out the attached image for my issue.
My widget drawer has the incorrect thumbnail for certain widgets, but not all of them. If I drag the widget out (going by the name), its the correct widget, just the wrong image.
Is there any way to reset this?
Anyone who may experience this, I Uninstalled any apps with wrong images and it fixed the issue.
that is weird... glad you got it fixed tho!

Thanks, me too. It wasn't messing up anything functional, but just bugged me it wasnt displaying correctly. So far I love this omni rom, brought back a lot of functionality to my old phone. Now I don't have to upgrade for awhile still.
