ODIN can find my phone in any mode other then download mode. Drivers are installed and can access both internal and mem card when plugged in normally. It seems that the computer may be blocking the phone in download mode only. Phone is rooted and flashed but would like to use ODIN for a few roms. Searched but no dice. Any ideas?

Hi,
I flashed True Stock 2.1 firmware onto my Bell Vibrant. When I try to connect my Vibrant to my computer, the computer does not recognize my phone (Kies and Odin). I have tried re-installing the drivers numerous times, from numerous sources and it is still not working. Unfortunately at this time, I am not rooted in the new ROM and cannot run my backup. The ROM seems to be running fine so far.
Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.
recovery mode
The same thing happened to me and I found that if I put the phone into recovery mode and plugged USB in that the drivers automatically installed.
Fixed the problem by flashing a copy of the I9000UGJG8 onto the phone. Thanks for the help.
I have installed a nightly update for Cyanogen 7 and since then the phone is stuck on the Cyanogen logo.
I can get into recovery but since I don't have any firmware files on my SD I can't reinstall the ROM. I just need a way to put the files on my internal SD.
I have tries ADB which didn't detect my phone. I have installed the driver (The phone is found as the Nexus S for some reason) .
I also couldn't get into download mode although I don't have the hardware lock as I can get into recovery.
What can I do in this situation? I am already thinking of opening the phone, swapping out the internal SD and transferring the files through the computer. I would like to know if there's any other way.
Thank you!

Plug phone into computer and boot in recovery. If still not recognized by adb go to advanced and select reboot recovery. This should get you adb. ADB push "namehere".zip sdcard.
If still having problems Odin back to stock and start over. To get to download mode make sure phone is off, battery pull if necessary. Plug USB to phone press volume up and down and hold and plug USB into computer.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Awesome! Thanks to you I have managed to get into download mode now.
All the guides that I found says I should use the power button. You said only up and down while connecting. That worked.
I am very grateful.
Hello!
I have royally F***** up my phone so if there are any geniuses out there, I will be so happy to hear your thoughts on my issue.
Here's my problem and I am open to any solution:
-My phone isn't rooted so CMW, TWRP, and any other custom recoveries are not an option.
-USB doesn't work
-Factory reset doesn't help (I've tried both ways)
-Any installs via extSD get the signature fail notification
-USB debugging is checked
-Allow apps from unknown source is checked
-App verification is unchecked
-Any kind of app that is meant to root my phone doesn't work
Thank you in advance!
Can you put it into download mode? If you can then you should be able to odin a custom recovery or odin the stock rom back to your phone and start from scratch. Have you downloaded the Samsung USB drivers? Only use the cable that came with your phone, others may not work or charge only. Also, try a different usb port.
Signature fails because you are on the stock recovery and the file you are trying to install hasn't been signed by Samsung.

I can put it into download mode but my phone still isn't recognized. I've tried many different cables, computers, usb ports, etc. I've downloaded the drivers from people posting them on here or on samsungs website directly but either way, i'm using windows 8 and windows 8 does it automatically. this wasn't a problem from the beginning, this just recently started happening and it has nothing to do with my computer or any computer for that matter.
Have you installed the drivers 'as administrator'?
Have you used Odin before?
How did you do what ever it is you think you did?
Have you tried Odin'ing a complete stock .tar? Here's one. Just download zip and extact the .tar.md5 file.
When you launch Odin are you right clicking and running as admin?
Did you put your phone into download mode before connecting it to a RUNNING Odin session. Meaning start Odin on PC as admin. Then put phone into download mode and then plugging it into computer.
Seems you can get into your phone right?
You may also try copying the extracted .tar to your SD card (via PC adapter or whatever) putting the SD card back in your phone and then trying to flash it via Stock Recovery.
Always nice when someone asks for help and then never reports back.
Hi people,
Long time ago installed TWRP on my samsung galaxy s5 SM-G900f so i could install a custom rom but never got around to it. Recently have realised that i can't update the OS on my phone due to having unauthentic software (or similar term) installed. While trying to reinstall the stock bootloader for android my phone got stuck on a loop of the TWRP logo and will only let me boot into download mode. After researching online I found out that i can stop this by installing CWM which will replace TWRP. Installed odin and everything on my laptop only to find my phone now won't be recognised by my PC and I am therefore stuck on what to do next?? (it would connect before this happened)
Any help will be hugely appreciated, thank you in advance!!
Get a stock ROM from sammobile .com firmware section, put the phone in download mode, and flash with ODIN 3.10.7

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the advice, I have tried that but my laptop won't recognise the phone. I believe i have the correct drivers installed as it used to connect fine. I can put it into download/odin mode but i can't even locate it in the device manager let alone ODIN 3.10.7. If you could link me the correct/official drivers it would be much appreciated as all the one's I've tried have the same result.
Grab KIES3 from samsungs site, that installs the drivers, although windows always seems to install them for me automatically when I connect the phone
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
You can try fixing the phone with KIES before ODIN too if you want (Firmware recovery)
Phone has to be in Download mode (Volume Down & Home & Power) to flash from ODIN
ODIN will show a port number at the top when it sees your phone, as seen here with COM6 in blue
http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/...samsung--galaxy-s-iii-I535VRALHD-ROM-ODIN.jpg
I've just installed kies and tried both ODIN and emergency firmware recovery but still neither recognise the phone, on Kies3 i get to a menu stating "list of devices requiring emergency recovery" and the box is blank (phone always plugged in, in download mode)
In odin no COM port is recognised, no text in upper boxes
Use a different PC / Cable
Tried both, used 3 different cables and 3 different pc's (2 windows 10 and 1 windows 7) after installing kies and odin on both still got same result as on my laptop. Although on windows 7 after i waited several minutes for the box to light up in odin a message came up from windows saying that no device driver has been installed for "unknown device"? thank you again for your help!
Seems strange that multiple PCs can't see it, there are some samsung drivers kicking about you could try, if I can find them I`ll link here

So yesterday I installed TWRP alongside CM13.
After that I got some problems with the ROM (rebooting, slow charging) so I decided to return to stock. To flash the stock .kdz I needed to go into download mode, that however did not work my phone just booted normally into CM when I tried to use the method to get into download mode (vol+ & USB). I even tried to force download mode through adb on PC however that also only rebooted the phone.
Then I did a wipe in TWRP (everything except Internal Storage) and shut off the phone.
Now I have the problem that I can not boot (because I obviously have no ROM installed anymore) but I also can't get into recovery anymore.
Also my phone seems to be in "only charge" mode from CM so my PC does not even recognize it correctly. I can't even see it in device manager and neither adb, nor the flash tool nor anything recognizes it.
When I connect my phone to the PC it just shows the CM battery icon that you see when you charge your phone while it's turned off and the LED is glowing yellow.
All of this are things that were new with CM so I guess there is still something left from CM that does prevent my G2 from acting as MTP.
Please tell me there is still hope...
