Hi Guys ,
I jump the "boat" from Omnia II (WinMo 6.5) to Vibrant (Android 2.1) and I'm lost a little bit .
As experience the Vibrant is much better ( very responsive compared with WinMo) , but I use to have some convenience programs on my WinMo that I don't know if I can have them on Android or If they are maybe you can point me to the best one (paid and Free) :
1. A phone, wifi, bluetooth , ring profile scheduler . I had on WinMo WirelessTime were I can schedule Bluetooth ON/OFF by period of time in the day . Actually you can do that with all 4 items above mention . It is something like that on Andoid market ?
2. The notifications that I'm getting on the top Android bar it doesn't show how many new e-mails, missed call , sms , I have . Yes, If I slide down the Notification area I see them , but I was wondering if I can see them on top bar.
3. Outlook sync it is working partially with Kies for Contacts (but I lost the pictures of the people) and calendar , but the rest Notes , task ,Outlook E-mails I didn't get it work . I read that Kies is doing only the two of them . What can I use my Android to do all that ?
4. Also on WinMo I had MyMobiler that allows me to control remotely the device from the PC. It is any similar thing for Android ?
5. What programs "must have" for Android . I'm thinking utilities , productivity ,etc.
6. Should I root it or should I wait up to Froyo is realised by Bell ?
Sorry for my long number of questions , but you know you switch from something that you control almost to perfection to something new that you cannot control and it's a strange feeling of "insecurity" .
Thank you guys.

OK I had gotten board with the lack of wifi and decent web browser on the Treo 650 that I decided to make the move to the 8125. I knew about the speed difference and some of the other issues discussed in these forums because I researched the device for months before making the move. Therefore I wont say much about that. Unfortunately I have a few issues that I can't seem to find answers for in this forum and I was hoping other users out there could help.
1. Is there any way of making the navigation pad useful? I cant access anything on the taskbar and it would be great if I could. I installed magic button so I can close apps and switch back to home when I want. Furthermore there is almost no documentation on how to use the nav pad. All application instructions say tap the icon. It's very convenient to have one handed use. for example i have yet to figure out how to get back to the location bar in Pocket IE so I can enter a url without having to tap the screen.
2. Is it common that some applications just freak out when you switch to landscape mode (scroll bars not working and such)?
3. As mentioned I installed magic button but is there an application that will pop up a list of running tasks so I can switch between them easily with the navigation pad.
4. Backup. I may be very wrong on this but I fear that active sync does not actually backup my entire device like palm does. Could someone clear this up and if I'm correct is there a way for active sync to do this. I have more programs on this device than what is on my add/remove prog screen.
5. Notification reminders. I see a feature to have the led for a period of time but it would be nicer if it could be set to play its sound also. Like the pagers of old.
6. Notification of lost service. This phone never tells me I have no cell service. Last thing I want is battery draining searching or worse assuming I have service and miss all calls.
If anyone could provide some info on the above it would be a great help. i have already found many other programs that make up for the lacking features. Below is a list of what I have installed please make any suggestions you think would be helpful.
1. AnthaVPN - easiest and fastest to install
2. TN520 by mochasoft
3. Pocket Putty SSH client
4. Eyes On Call - Callfilter like program with many features still limited but the developer is very quick in implementing suggestions.
5. Info sharp - same developer as above but this provides sms capabilities that are very impressive. He almost has chat style sms with the way this program works.
6. OMAPclocker - for clocking to 220. I actually see the difference.
7. IM+ - Sametime/AOL instant messenger client.
8. Info apps I have Metro, Ereader, Bdicty, VadeMecum
9. TCPMP
10. Registry Wizard
11. Calc98 - the built in calc app is a joke.
12. Xpressmail - dont care what anyone says this app does what it says it will do. Pushes email to your phone.
Thank You
- Richard
sorry, you are in the wrong forum. This here is the Universal, not the Hermes (or whatever the 8125 is)
thx
wow didn't notice I posted on universal forum. well at least I can correct the typos and vgrammer before posting on wizard.

hey guys lets write down the basic problems with the gene that we have faced....not 3rd party software problems but the system related problems. and any solutions...if one has... ill start with some
1. When you type a message and click send.. there is no notification and that message does not show in the sent items
2. sometimes the inbox shows (99999) items....when though you may be having just 2 items. it gets solved only when you reset the fone
3. I changed the theme from the HTC Default(green one) to any other (suppose grey theme)...and after one reset of i again change the theme to HTC Default.....THE TOP AND BOTTOM TABS WILL REMAIN GREY .DUNNO WAT HAPPENS
4. The left and right hardware keys are assigned to calender and contacts....Whenever you close a program by using (ok) button it closes....but contacts and calender does not close......dunno whyy???
THROW IN GUYS...
just try a hard reset
No windows mobile works great out of the box. Tweaking is necessary just as it is in case of Windows on PC.
1. That can be configured using many programs like "Advance Configuration Tool".
2. This problem is only in very old versions of ROMs. And GENE comes in 3-4 different configs, care to mention which one you are having problem with?
3. Your theme registry is corrupt due to some non-standard theme you tried accidently. Backup your contacts, calender, sms etc data using PIM backup and do a hard reset. You'll loose applications installed to phone memory though.
4. You can always configure the HTC Task Manager to close these. These apps are used often thats why they are configured so. This always happen on most phones, and is a trend on Nokia phones, You never felt it cause they wont let you see it on their phones ([email protected]).
All in all, i think its more of you not-so-long experience with windows mobile platform that makes you feel so. Remember, its not a traditional phone, its a PDA and it has to be handled differently.
Hello everyone! My name is Dave I live in NYC and I find this forum to be the definitive resource on the Wing. I respectfully request some assistance. I bought a t-mobile wing a few weeks ago, and after a short time decided I wanted to customize it as my friend who has owned an Apache ppc for a long time suggested I do. I have read every sticky and noob guide on xda and even hofo and modaco and ppcgeeks along with doing searches on each.
I successfully flashed using Tyler's kit and it worked great on the first try (thank you) however I encountered a few issues with the new os. I believe it was touchflo 2.3 - first being unable to get my hotmail as I did before the flash. This made me decide to flash back to my stock ruu - which I just completed as I write this.
Here is where I am looking for some friendly advice - there are a few things I would like in the next cooked rom for my wing.
1) windows mobile 6.1 ( not a must if it is not stable but if it is thats good, I basically want speed / performance out of my ppc)
2) an iphone like interface (if possible, or at least something where my commonly used apps can be launched with one tap)
3) the abilty to watch youtube vids, play my mp3s (i have an 8gb sdhc micro) and read email from hotmail (along with attachments in as few clicks as possible)
4) the ability to change background colors , images and themes
5) a keylock ulitity that prevents accidental calls (and actaully locks ALL keys including the send/end buttons)
6) I like using screen toggle when playing my mp3s from my holster and something else to save battery power because my mp3s run for 8 hours straight while i work.
7) I am not scared to overclock so batterystatus is a must.
8) page pool of 4mb (not sure if this is the best for having free ram and a faster ppc in general, but more ram than stock is crucial)
9) a free instant messaging program like im+ ( i have the 400 text plan so I dont want to pay for aol aim texts)
10) I use calendar and tasks often
11) voice command that actually works.
12) I did like the audio manager from touchflo (the way it groups my mp3s by artist etc is awesome)
13) A decent internet explorer or clone that is faster.
14) If possible I would like to cancel my 19.99 total internet and still surf and get email and aim with the 5.99 tmobile web plan ( I followed instructions to set up a proxy and I was able to access the internet but I'm not sure that means I would be able to switch to the cheaper plan.)
15) a good task manager which actually closes a program for real when I tap the X
16) Totalcommander is a must.
17) screen capture , equalizer , pimbackup.
18) the weather update util from touchflo was so useful!
19) the ability to customize the splash screens and startup sounds
20) the ability to unlock the phone or bring it out of standby simply by sliding it open would be awesome!
21) a better version of the transcriber (the stock one barely recognizes me)
22) optimization abilities for internet or ppc performance things I can tweak and play around with myself if possible.
23) on a side note - I wanted to install Ivan's easybake oven but I could not get it to get past the ms-dos command prompt it kept failing to start.
24) perhaps a cooler keyboard than stock?
25) googlemaps would be nice
26) I use mms and sms alot so something similar to stock on this is fine.
27) louder volume for custom mp3 ringtones?
I think that would just about make me extremely satisfied. Sorry again for the huge post - but if anyone can help me I'm absolutely sure they read and post here on xda
Since I cant get the kitchen working on my xp desktop I would be appreciative if one of the expert cooks could fry me up something along these lines using the kitchen if its not too much trouble or perhaps point me in the right direction?
Update: I went with ttrans 4.0 and I am glad I did - its great!
Hi There!
I just bought this phone and I am struggling having come from Symbian. I was wondering if some kind person(s) would help point me in the right direction.
1) Bluetooth. How do I "authorize" a device so it makes connection automatically?
2) How do I send multiple contacts to a bluetooth device?
3) Under Contacts
4) Is there a way to unlock the screen without that unlock slider thing? It's very frustrating
5) How do I get a horizontal full qwerty? Seems like mostly I can't get it to come up ? Should it not be available all the time?
6) Under "people" I can't seem to add contacts to that? Is that it's purpose? How does "people" compare to "Contacts"?
7) Below the quicklinks there is a little arrow, but I can't get to what's below it which I think is more quicklinks? How do I add more?
8) Is there any way, even via purchased software, to get voice dialing?
9) Is there a good divx/xvid/x264 player?
10) is there a good backup utility?
Re Roms. It's very confusing for a new person, so many options etc... Can someone recommend a good one? I know they are all different and I am not sure what I want, but I guess speed and battery and stability are all important. I understand I might need to upgrade the radio as well, are they region specific? Will I lose my settings and data if I upgrade? Can I upgrade Roms on W7 x64 or is it like the Symbian where you need XP?
Thanks very much!
about dialing
i was in contact with htc germany .
they said that voice call is not part of the hd2 .
because of microsoft
1 - Connect your bluetooth device, then (if the screen isnt already showing) click settings - menu - all settings - bluetooth. click the device name, and choose properties, tick teh box 'connections authorised'.
2 - dont know
3 - no question?
4 - use a different unlocker? many people like s2u2 which is apparently very configurable.
5 - only available when you are typing, and only comes up in applications that support landscape.
6 - press an empty square, it lets you choose a contact to add.
7 - the litte arrow points down, so you slide the screen up. Click an empty space to add a program or shortcut or contact.
8 - very hit and miss so far. read the apps and themes section.
9 - searcj, there is one that a lot of people use, but i cant remember its name.
10 - again, search, there are a few that many people go for. Personally i dont use one, i just sync my contacts and reinstal programs every hard reset.
I came from symbian. Basically read and read and read this forum and search.
Most of the answers are here and i've asked some of them!
Give it a few weeks and you will be sweet as
Here is my story with X10 after 1 day of usage.
Since this is the first time to me to use the Android system, so I noticed that it is (from the interface side) a mix between iPhone and WM but it is much better faster and stable.
Network Reception ... Perfect
GPS reception ... Perfect
OS ... Perfect
Phone Dialer ... Similar to the iPhone one
Messaging ... Similar to the WM one
Browser ... Perfect in English sites not the Arabic one
Arabic support ... Very Poor (supposed to be supported in next Update 2.1)
Navigation program ... perfect as a 30 days trials and the 12 month upgrade will cost me 70Euro (costly some how but i will buy it as there is no alternative).
Android Market ... Medium in terms of paid programs (as Document2Go) and Perfect for the free programs (when Google will be able to give us access to the paid market).
Camera ... File size and quality is more than perfect but I've noticed that the image contrast is very High and I couldn't adjust it and there is a problem in the flash must be activated from the advanced menu every time i want to use it (stupid).
Exchange program ... Very powerful since it is for free (Roadsync which is a paid program is VERY powerful than the stock one). The problem is that i cannot set a frequent Sync other than push (which consume the battery to the maximum).
Battery life ... After 12 hours extensive usage there are 37% remaining power in the battery (which is good since i used a lot today , GPS, Camera, WEB, Exchange, messaging and Market).
Build quality ... So Far So Good
This is my initial feedback and will be followed by another feedback soon...
So guys, let us discuss here what is missing from our phone and what should SE consider in the next update
Second feedback after using it for almost a week now
I bought this phone since 7 days now and please find below my feedback:
Battery life ... at the end of the day there are 33% remaining (after using Web, Lot of SMS, minimum 3 hours of calling, 3G network and WIFI)
Camera ... Very good snapper my only problem is in the Flash and sometime the image stabilization doesn't work properly
Touch Sensitivity ... Excellent
Network Reception ... Excellent
Market ... need badly to have access to the Paid section in the Market
Dialer ... Having a smart dialer will be a good option
Missing Video Call ... Since Fring used the back camera in performing Video calls over Skype and MSN why SE can't use it too to perform Video Calls over 3G network?

hi
for navigation you could use googlemaps navigation feature
and for full market in your region you could try downloading the market.apk and installing or you could debrand the phone so it has a different regions software on
only thing missing from the x10 for me is flash. everything else is great for what i need
from when i played with it, i say it could of been better...just overall
I'm not going to harp on about MT because I know that will never be possible, but I will say its missed.
However after months of regular use, here's my list.
*the phone application could do with larger buttons
* flash in browser. Would have been perfect for the world cup whilst at work!
* better access to the latest OS releases.
* improved copy and paste method
*better cursor control for text input (can be addressed by HTC keyboard)
* automatic flash (will be addressed by later Android versions)
* louder in call volume
* Playlist creator (can be addressed by using default music player)
* improved zooming method
* more code support I.e divx and mkv
720p recording will be a bonus if executed well. (unlike face recognition)
Best thing about this device for me is the screen size for browsing.

Couldn't agree more.. I took that for granted on the Hero!
I must admit i also found ending a call more complicated than it should have been, especially with the dialpad draw open. In the end I often waited for the person on the other end to hangup!
However I saw on a post on this forum that said that the power button can be used to end the call. Although it's not ideally placed to end a call, I find it much easier than sliding the dialer down and hitting the software end call key.
Just thought I'd share.

but this is true, you will have to hit the power key in order to end incoming call. nothing else can be configured (except a developer develop a program to change the assigned setting for the hardware keys )

Dears,
I've posted today my second feedback about the mobile, please check Post # 2
I don't tend to use the dialler, unless I'm calling someone whose number isn't in my phonebook... I have the phonebook app on my action buttons (ADW Launcher) and go into that.. then long press on the contact and select the correct calling option from there.... probably quickest method of calling someone on any phone I've ever had.
