I'm still under impressions about the HD and all its feat.s, but the most is from 5MPx camera, well done for phone. So please post your the best done picture ever by you HD!!!
Ehhh why not...first one is of the Washington monument here in DC,
The second one is of my almost 3 year old insisting she ride her tricycle uphill to her auntie's house on the left (yes, she knows where the house is...but is still struggling with that pedal/steer combo... give her a break, some of you still get left and right confused!)
Not bad, looks quite nice

I mean some of my friends have been really embarrassed with the camera performance of our beloved HD, when trying to impress ladies with the "latest peace of the mobile technology" they haven't been able to accomplish such an easy task as shooting a decent picture, unless on a bright light. Most of the relatively old Nokias or Sony-Ericssons can do this.
I don't wanna even talk about the video recording
Best picture? Come on, we all know that htc have no idea about cameras.
Actually...I'm happy with the [outdoor] performance with this camera. I mean occasionally you'll get a jewel of (an indoor) picture...heck, sometimes with my 10meg camera I'll be disappointed...and yes, some pictures do come out somewhat discolored outside, but I just simply use a photo editing prigram to fix the colors and I'm all set. Remember, you bought:
1. A phone
2. Web browser
3. Digital assistant
4. Mp3 player
5. Camera...
not the other way around.
I have taken 3 pictures that i think is the best i can get out of my HD:
the first one of my mom's dog:
the second one the first flowers:
and the last one a pumpkin from halloween:
I've been this close to going back to a Sony Ericsson because of the camera... Only the video playback (still not as good as it should be) on the large screen keeps me happy
Here's my two cents
The black Sea
Countryside
Beach
River Terek
Although I'm not happy with the HD camera performance I use it occasionally as a back up camera. It's not really practical to carry around a DSLR all the time.

I made a test on My SE Xperia X1 (made by HTC and with HTC hardware camera) and I think that HTC's bad quality pictures is more software related than hardware related...
The rom I use has 2 camera application: the SE Xperia one and the HTC Rhodium one
Here is the picture taken with HTC app:
Here is the picture taken with the SE app:
>My wonder came after the shot done during my work, it was indoor and i shot a bottle, I think very good one picture;
>My mother owns SE K800, but I cannot compare pix, mine is better
>Anyways A+ to HTC for such camera (photo!), after Artemis's camera this one is earth and heaven.
Please continue attach quality pix by HD
pic is attached!
My abstract photo
This was taken through the windscreen of a van while moving.
The camera still's are not too bad on the HD but the video recording is utter junk, the original diamond take's far better video.
Here are my noob shots
...wish the car was mine though
Hi I just want to ask if updating our X10 to Android 2.1 will improve quality of pictures taken with camera.... I know that HD recording is provided, but It's not so importatnt for me. Xperia has 8.1 mpix matrix and strong CPU so it should take cristal photos, but it doesn't. Yesterday I compared quality with my father's Samsung Wave. It also has 1 GHz CPU but "only" 5 Mpix matrix of camera and the Wave takes uncomparable better photos. For example, I've taken a photo of a car from a distance both X10 and Wave.. After zooming in photos on the headsets number plate on the Wave was clear and with huge contrast, but on my X10 I couldn't even recognize numbers I wish to have a good photo camera in my X10.... it's a beautiful device
I think that my phone takes rather good pictures.. Compared to other phones that I've had.
I found that to be able to take good pics on the x10 you will have to adjust the settings manually. Using auto mode provides average photos. You can try "scn auto", it seems to provide better quality pics than "auto" for me
its possible that the SE X10 amera after uodate to 2.1 will take better pictures but it depends if they update the cameras rendering sotware in my opinion, ive previously owned the Samsung Omnia 1 samsung f480, in the case of the omnia 1 my picture quality wasdecent but not that good although the f480 had the same camera module the pictures were a lot better due to better camera software.
so its possible that if x10 gets a camera software uodate in the process it should take/render better images.
someone correct me if im wrong
Could You suggest me the best settings for camera app?
this is most likely due to a bug in X10 the picture blurs when you zoom in on the photo in the phone. Try comparing the 2 photos on a computer screen you may see a different result. The X10 takes very good photos.

I agree they are very good but I've noticed (in macro mode) that auto focus often pass by best lens position, and the lens came back to zero position (click audible) and photo loses contarst ...
Hi Karooluss
Im a little disappointed with the Xperia camera too. But I did some tests, and the problem probably it is the high compression used by the original camera software.
I took some picture using the Snap Photo Free, this software doesnt use the entire 8MP resolution, but you can set the JPEG quality to numbers like 90 or 95, getting very crisp and non blotchy photos.
I opened a thread here, looking for some help to find a alternative camera software for X10.

update messed up my camera more...
date and time on camera
resolution etc is good. just need to know how to set date and time so it reflect on the photos taken. anybody able to advise?

Also, the wave has true color compared to x10. Zooming doesn't do it justice. On a pc you realize how good the camera is.
i think the x10 has the crappiest of all cameras available in the market.
my 3 yr old nokia n95 takes a 100 times better pics in any conditions compared to the x10.
And this is starting to make me dislike the device.. because i take a lot of pictures..
the x10 cannot even click a document properly..

I can be wrong, but I do believe the Sony Ericsson phones uses Sony's Cybershot software for the camera (Exclusive to Sony cameras and Sony Ericcson devices)
That should improve the overall experience, including image quality, alot. (Compared to android's/other manufacturers defaults)
I think that trying to update to a non Sony/Sony Ericsson solution makes things worse.
However. As I said:
I can be wrong as I'm not sure if this is the case and only something I've heard.

SE uses the cybershot software only for the cybershot series. more over i dont think they might have ported the cybershot algorithms to android.
i dont want to say that the x10 has a camera that is crap based on the hardware.
the hardware cam is great, its just that sony has to work on the image processing algorithms and a lot of tweaks to the cam application..
also i think its a limitation of android 1.6 to support only 5 mp.. but i think sony did not do a good job in adding a 8.1 support to the android 1.6
may be the upcoming 2.1 update solves certain such issues..

could anyone fix the Sw of camera for 30fps recording in night? look at samsung galaxxy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL06Y4hTvKw
cmon! hey guys
this is probably possible but it isnt a vital issue hence it will not get a fix anytime soon.
you may find that changing settings to auto instead of manual might make it smoother, its not that bad i did a test video and media coder reported it @ 25 fps which is good enough
If you owned SGS before DHD you will be screaming with anger, i know i am, regarding camera quality ...
sorry i meant to say change it from auto to manual, i just realised i had it the other way around in my previous post
well hopfully a previous sgs owner with the knowledge to do it will come along

HTC are renowned for ****ty video recording and pictures, I's surprised you didn't look it up beforehand. It's something that HTC clearly doesn't care about as they aren't doing anything about improving it, it's a shame really.
obv in normal daylight it is ok i can get 30 FPS no problem. after that video is great anyone can extract htc camera .apk and repair it? for example cook some xml config files . i found there fps_layout.xml
hi..i m currently using the native camera app to capture videos...video quality is very good...but the audio is crap...i was recording a live concert...not exactly a concert though...live music performance...the video turned out very good but the audio really sucked...
since the phones mic is the only source...i would like to know if there is an app that can record good quality videos with decent sound...?
Or is there anyway i can remove noise from the recordings using a software on the pc...any convertor that will convert the video to a format which will output the audio better.
P.S the audio is real bad...just not acceptable...its very hazzy and full of noise
Note : settings used were...720p..mpeg4 codec.
Please HELP !!
I second the OPs inquiry...
The answer, as always, is CM. Video and audio quality is superior in CM.
2.3 fixes this via a new ACC codec. CM7, which is very much alpha, is the best choice. Whether that's worth flashing just for that fix is up to you.

If it is so vital and you don't have time to flash a ROM, then march yourself to Best Buy or your nearest electronics store and buy a camcorder. Relying on a "phone" to record "vital" video and audio is not the way to go.
^^ camcorder is out of budget...already spent a lot on d evo..so need to wait a while to get a good camcorder...
[offtopic]do camcorders record audio better..or do u need to buy some production mic to get better audio on video recordings in scenerios like music concerts..? Are there some ports on the camcorder to feed in the audio thru cables etc ?
yes, the video quality is pretty bad even at the max settings. i've never been happy with it.
if you got it less than a month ago, and the video is THAT important to you, you should return the phone and get an even exchange for the Samsung Epic.
The video recording on the Epic is amazing. Even better than the iPhone 4. My wife has it and i'm totally jealous of her video quality, which rivals our flip camcorder.
Besides that, the Evo is a much better phone in almost every way.
but if you're specifically looking for an amazing camcorder and not much else, go get yourself an Epic.
i got it 2 months back.
i donno but technically evo should record better video and audio as opposed to epic...the fact that evo has 8mp...mpeg4 codecs and features like light correction etc...i know 8mp don matter much but technically more the pixels better is the resolution and naturally better quality....is software the culprit in case of evo or is it that i m missing something abt the hardware of both phones ?

The point that you are missing is you are trying to use a phone as a replacement for a camcorder.

MP means very little outside of how many pixels at maximum the photo can be made of. With EVO vs Epic video recording its a non issue since both record at the same size -720p- and no larger. Outside of MP, the Epic's sensor is just better; it may capture less pixels at its maximum but the pixels that it does capture will be of higher quality. A lot of people have said that the Epic takes better photos than the iPhone 4; and we just had a long thread where it was found out that the reason why the iPhone 4 shoots better than the EVO is because it does indeed have a better sensor. That's likely the same reason why the SGS/Epic are better too.

Exactly.
HTC makes great phones, but are notorious for making horrible camera sensors. This is because, besides from tacking them on to phones, the DON'T MAKE CAMERAS and have no experience in it and little budget to fix it up.
On the other hand, Samsung has been making digital cameras for the last 10 years and are even better known for their cameras than their phones. So, they have more money and research behind this form of technology. So they just slay at making cameras for phones as well.

Has very little to do with what he said. The iPhone and EVO use sensors from the same company. The difference is in product direction. Apple aims for quality, HTC aims for numbers. People expect Apple products to be easy and to work good; most of them don't have a clue what a mega pixel is or does. HTC doesn't have the same product positioning as Apple so they rely on marketing numbers to persuade people (3 more MP then the iPhone 4!!!). At least that's my view.

I love the camera on the Z2... when it focuses properly.
I've never had such a bad phone at focussing!
I also get the odd shot that's over processed into a mush but that's another story and something all mobile cameras can do on occasions.
Went to my eldest's first nativity play today and tried to film it, end result the back of people's heads in front of us were in focus but the kids on stage?
Nah they were a blurry mess.
It's not just the constant focus seeking for no reason in videos that annoys me either.
With stills, generally it's 50/50 if I get a focussed shot or not.
When I do the results are fantastic (as long as you use manual white balance)
Half the time the camera doesn't focus properly with touch focus or doesn't focus where you want it.
If I just try infinity focus and let the camera sort itself out I get a few pictures that the camera focuses on nothing, the entire shot is out of focus.
Never had these problems with the M8, Note2, GS2 that preceded my Z2 so I don't think it's me.
I know that the Z2 has focus problems in less than brilliant light which doesn't help (unlike the M8) but it's making my mobile photography pretty hit and miss.
Unfortunately the shot often looks fine on the phone but when viewed on a large PC monitor it's obvious the shot is useless.
It's seriously making me consider leaving the Sony stable in the next generation next year which would be a real shame because the phone itself is the best Android out there for me at the moment.
Sony really have to sort out their camera processing, if Apple can do it with a Sony lens there should be no excuse for Sony.
Either it's just a Sony thing or my phone is faulty but like I said some of the pictures I take have stellar focus and colour balance but on the whole... not.
Sorry just needed to vent some frustration!
First of all this must be moved to Q & A threat, second - After the 4.4.4 update the Superior auto mode is even crappier then 4.4.2,so if you make your photos that way...its normal.Try playing with the Manual mode with 20mpxls and if you want a full focused picture - go with Multifocus mode and Multi metering, and ofcourse this is just the beginning. If you still experience those kind of focus problems see if ur camera glass antireflection coating is not removed. / scratched/ (the glass itself is not scratched.) If so - give it to sony centre for repair. You can check when putting the glass on bright light.

I must admit I have started using Manual mode more often than Auto now because under artificial light all the auto shots turn out orange and over processed.

No, touch focus is ropy as hell on this phone, often it won't actually focus where I want it to, and if it does often it'll focus on a pin point area and blur everything else.

Been playing with Google camera today and I've got to say it's far more accurate for focus than the stock app!
HDR in Google camera works better than stock as well, although it's slow.
Shame I can't override the default camera button behaviour because the hardware button is a handy way to get into the camera quickly.

HDR in Google Camera used to be exclusive to Nexus devices but Google opened it up in the last few updates. It also does HDR at 20.7 MP but Google Camera lacks extended options like ISO speed control and such.
I switch between manual mode in the Sony app and Google Camera depending on the situation. For videos, the Google Camera app definitely wins in focus speed and accuracy. The software developers and engineers at Sony really need to get on the same page!

The only shame with Google cam video is it doesn't have the steady shot that Sony camera does.
I guess the lack of constant focus shifting makes up for that though.
Oh and there's no doubt Sony's software engineers are the cause of most of the camera issues and need to sort it out!
