Edit: Ok, the beta swype link does not recognize my phone as an android phone if I'm using Dolphin Browser HD... had to use the stock browser to download the installer.

Got the email couple of hours ago, and just updated right now. Doesn't seem much has changed. Anyone else know whats new in this version?

Thnks, email Link is just to the installer which needs a Beta username and PW to run so no use for non beta members. But a link to the actual APK via PM would be great. Cheers.

New features/fixes are:
Added better context sensitivity for the “magic button” (go/search/enter/smiley)
Added automatic apostrophe insertion for contractions (e.g. won't, don't, wasn't, etc)
Added the Italian language dictionary
Improved sensing of field type to prevent the display and addition of passwords to the UDB (user dictionary)
Improved suppression of auto-spacing in fields such as URLs and email addresses
Updated the built-in dictionary to include several common words that were previously missing
Rewrote some settings descriptions to be more clear on their functionality
Fixed licensing issue causing “Limited Functionality” errors when rebooting devices running Android 2.0 and later
Fixed licensing issue causing some users to receive an “Incorrect ID” error when installing Swype
Fixed a bug where manually typing some words with word-prediction enabled would cause Swype to crash
Fixed a bug which caused some words added to the UDB to erroneously override other words when word-prediction is enabled
Many other minor bug fixes!

That alone would warrant an upgrade. Text entry in URLs and emails is the reason I gave up on Skype beta. So looks promising.

On my N1, I still had to go into Swype settings and tutorial to actually activate it. Straight away I can see the URL stuff is better. So back to using Swype for me. Yee ha...

The word recognition is so much faster than the original beta.

I got the email about 4 hours ago (on my N1), downloaded the software and installed it. You have to remove both Swype and the older installer else it fails. I am sure there are tons of underneath the hood improvements, but the one that I saw immediately was when you enter numbers, they show up in the suggestion list in blue.

...and pecking keys is now so much more do-able. ie when you want to enter a non word such as a password. THANK YOU Swype devs for listening and fixing those two major bummers that were there before and are fixed now. Good Stuff.

Actual swiping doesnt work for my N1 on Froyo, all stock - any thoughts? - Only outlines the texting field in blue on the edges and then no text shows up - only allows me to type like normal - this is with the 1.56

Thanks for the heads up. I did not receive the email yet but downloaded it anyways. It seems much faster so far. I guess we will see how well they did after a few days of testing.

After your great write-up on rooting 2.2 I have no problems testing your programs however when I click on the sign here link it asks me to sign in with my gmail account and I am weary about using my credentials through a link thats asks for that first. Can I pm you my email for testing? Thanks.

hmmm, everyone should be able to see and edit the list.... no matter if they are signed in or not...

I was able to edit spreadsheet without being logged in.
As for the program, it works good for me. I haven't accounted any bugs.
except suggestion: make it so it only has to check environment once, it takes a little bit to run the check everytime.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I also thought about, what if they copy it to another computer, or they uninstall something, the flag would still be there saying the environment is clear, even when it's not. I will definitely take this into consideration.

It could be that I am accessing the link through my evo. I work nights so I wont be able to grab any links until I get home but I am definitely up for testing.

Oh, forgot, also please fill in your windows version on the spreadsheet. This info is very valuable for me and future programs

did have a question though, since it's creating a system/app folder, essentially this would override the one on your phone erasing pretty much everything, correct? I wanted to test the "push to phone"

Just tested the program and everything looks good.
It's a good alternative to re-installing htc and sprint apps when the user has deleted them and didn't back them up.
Haven't tested the push to phone option yet and will have to make a most recent nand before I do.

Droid Favor Needed Please

I put my first app on the market. For some reason, Google Market doesn't let you download your own app. wth?
I'm asking that someone download it (or try to) to make sure it works. There were a few steps to do to get the app ready for the market and I want to make sure I didn't mess anything up (and that people can dl it!)
It's called "Prefix Code Finder" and has a blue telephone icon and the author is "smartapps".
It's listed at $1.00...all I ask is you to dl it for 5 minutes, test it and then you can return it.
And another weird thing happened after I published it; I can no longer get it on my phone. I load it, it says "Success" and I can see it in Manage Applications, but the icon to run is not to be found!! I turned debugging back on, tried to load it by running it from Eclipse and installing with adb. I tired both apk's; the publishable version and the one that I changed the debug to TRUE. WEIRD.
Please don't consider this spam and I really didn't want to post this, but I have no way to check to see if this is working.

Well, I redid the ENTIRE project from scratch, exported my apk and installed to market.
I still get a SERVER ERROR...can anyone please try to download this.....just see if you can pull it down, do a search or two and return it.

I just really need to narrow down if I'm doing something wrong with the app preparation or if it's Google Market.

What sucks to me is making those images of the app; I'm a programmer, not a graphics artist. And since my data is on a hosted server, I can't get a picture of the output from the emulator. I would have to "hard code" some data in and then do the screen capture.
Oh well, off to get my next app up...similar to this one, but it's a Zip Code Finder.
Then I've got to figure out what to code next...

It be pretty cool if you could put looking for the area codes and zoos by city and state

I'll have to look at the data first. Major cities could have a lot of area codes and prefixes. Not worried about the speed pulling from the hosted database, it's pretty fast; I'm just worried about a crapload of data to scroll through
But hey, thanks, I will probably do it as version 1.1 if I'm not getting 100 areacodes and prefixes for one city.
Yeah, not going to work. I just queried Columbus, OH and got 427 rows back! That would be a lot of scrolling if I did that many lines. I could send it back as "201, 202, 203, 215, 216, 217....", but that just might look ugly LOL

Don't know if you've tried this. Guessing you probably have, but I had got that error a few times before and I fixed by doing a reboot of the phone. Just an idea.

I just ended-up running adb install

Well, I'm up and running and making "some" sales.
Moved on to licensing my apps (new and old). Once I get that ironed-out, I can start back with development, because we ALL know that's where the real fun is. LOL
Sucks being a programmer...no problems writing code, just not creative enough to come up with ideas that aren't out there yet...still in search of that "must have" app that sells 50,000 copies (yeah, I know...good luck ROFL)

How to: Developer Unlock Windows Phone (free)

There have already been many videos and threads on how to developer unlock a Windows Phone, but all the other methods don't work anymore. Here is the new one that will hopefully work a bit longer.

You don't need to do this anymore... you can get a 2-app-limit dev unlock for free (just download the SDK and use the developer registration tool with *any* Microsoft account).

With these, even with the dreamspark account, you could only get 3 apps, is there a "free" way to allow up to 10 apps to be sideloaded or is that ONLY on a $99/yr account ?

It's only $20 now, not $100, but I don't know of any current free option.

How ? Mine still gets to the 3 apps, then it errors out if I try to install a 4th...
I guess I will just have to wait to see if this "Luimia 920 unlock" comes true, then I don't have to worry about the limits any more.

I really have no idea. Wish I did!!! Whatever happened wasn't intentional on my part and not sure of the conditions under which the dev reg app was run when I unlocked. I followed the tutorial for using a student email account through Dreamspark and ended up with 10 app limit.

Apparently people who recently registered through dreamspark get 10 apps. I still had the 3 app limit too, until I registered for a full developers account I had a coupon code that made it free. Not sure where I got that from....

Is this still available? And if it is, is it limited to Windows Phone 8 only?
I tried to register some phones (all Windows Phone 7) of my friends but didn't succeed

Worked fine back in January, when I last tried it. What error did you get? I'll admit I was trying WP7 not WP8, but it shouldn't matter.

OK, there's been some changes in developer accounts in March 2014.
I used to have a student account but it's not working anymore. Neither does the trick which is described over here.
I dunno whether it has something to do with the thing that I'm still using WIN XP and SDK 7.1?

This is automated; it runs on my server. It doesn't rely on manual updates, so it should be pretty quick (the script checks every 10 minutes). Let me know if you have any issues with it. I have a channel for each Nexus device if you have others; check my signature for the full list.

Unfortunately not. The reason the script can be automated is because the factory images page has a set format that I can compare against--essentially, the script determines if any of the individual device tables on the factory images page has changed, then it grabs the new version text from the table and pushes to the appropriate device. There's no official source for OTA builds, and even though they're hosted on Google's servers they have randomly-generated URLs so I can't programmatically check for them. The best solution would probably be to subscribe to the factory image update channel, then check XDA every so often after a new build comes out to wait for someone to post the OTA update itself. Sorry about that!

Yeah, I saw this post yesterday then looked around for that build. Looks like it's a special build that's only on devices directly purchased from Fi at the moment. If it ever gets added to the Nexus 6 list on the factory images page it'll pop up on the channel, but if Nexus 6 Fi devices have their own set of factory images I'll have to add a separate channel for them, which is no big deal. Nothing I can do at the moment though unless/until Google changes something on their end.
As a sidenote, is your device codename shamu like a normal Nexus 6? If you don't know for sure, you can check by going to Settings --> About phone, then tap "Send feedback about this device", then tap the small "system information" link. Scroll down in that window a little bit and it's under the heading "Device".

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I hope that the OTA comes soon... Then again, I'm probably due a spring clean factory reset of the phone anyways ... I just don't want to, it takes up about half a day to configure! (I'm no longer a rooter and modder)

This looks like a great idea, but I don't see any updates newer than last October. Is this dead or do you not consider the security update releases as factory images? I installed the MMB29S image in early January.

Sorry, Google changed the format of the page and I'll be honest, I completely forgot about this script since it was self-sufficient for a long time. I'm working to update the script, should be fixed tomorrow.

Just curious if you don't mind me asking, but what script are you running on your server that queries Google's site and how did you get that connected to your Pushbullet channel? I'm thinking of doing something similar elsewhere but I don't know where to start since I'm so new to scripting.

Maybe it's due to a change in the Factory Images page, with that new "Acknowledge" button next to the text "I have read and agree with the above terms and conditions"?
