Is there any way we can get some files or fix out of this http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150262535205538&id=260085296049 for us t-mobile vibrant. It said to have fix bell vibrant 3 buttons recovery in bell vibrant.
good question
will the US vibrant 3 button issue also be fixed via software update?
yeah really looking for this thing....can someone help!!

The Bell i9000m "Vibrant" fix is in the i9000 forum....not here
Release: 3-button combo fix
It was a horrible idea to call that phone "Vibrant" because it's not like the T-Mobile Vibrant...
It's already been determined that the button combo problems are due to the secondary bootloader, but it's going to take a full update to fix this for the T-Mobile Vibrant, and that hasn't happened yet.

More details on second bootloader please. For those of us who don't know what this means, can you elaborate.
Is this a hardware flaw or just software? Also why do only some Vibrants have the 3 button issue, not all? Aren't all the phones getting the same firmware, shouldnt either all or none have the issue.

I find it BEYOND strange that samsung hasnt addressed this as an issue, well get froyo but will froyo fix this? i dont think so , in order to fix ALL THE GALAXY S phones samsung would have to format the phones, and how would they achive that? i dont think an update will fix this
I was just thinking about this today. We have seen that the main issue with the lag is that the filesystem sucks, so to fix it they would have to change the whole filesystem to ext or whatever, this means wiping the phone as I don't think there is a reliable way of changing the filesystem without deleting the data inside.
I doubt Samsung would release and update that requires users to delete all the data in their devices, so....who knows. As far as I know they haven't even acknowledged the lag problem yet.
who knows , maybe they'll recommend a "keis backup " (with a few extra HA HA HA's on the side) before wipe.
Do you guys not read other SGS sections? :/
Go to the SGS Android Development forums, you will find 2-3 threads with lag fixes that people have used and have found to be very helpful, almost completely removing the lag.

It's not about the fixes that we have available now, but about seeing if Samsung officially fixes the issue. No matter how good the community fixes are, they are "hacks" that are not as good as Samsung actually fixing the problem, hopefully in the same way, but changing the phone's filesystem to ext.
it's fixed already in the latest firmware official JH2

Is that from Samsung or a community firmware?
from Samsung Kies
but you can get it from samsung firmware .com as usual as well
I have never been able to get Kies to see my phone and gave up on it. So is this a whole new ROM?
I notice running quadrant my phone sits on the i/o test for about a min or more.. its pretty sad a phone this powerful is gimped so badly in that way.
that's part of the new fix in the full new rom

I can't find JH2 on Samsung-firmwares.com nor can I see any post on the forum confirming it has been fixed. Any hints?
that' s for Captivate, and as the I9000 and Captivate are not 100% the same thing i don' t recommend flashing this.
Spybreak That's for Captivate, don't flash. A new firmware will be out in less then a week for SGS , probably the same firmware as the captivate only for sgs.

Yeah, I just realized that looking at the Captivate forums. Good to know it seems to have been officially fixed. Now let's see how long it takes them to release that firmware for Europe.
it's not for captivate, it is for the i9000m
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/Vibrant_GT-I9000M
which is the same as the i9000

it's in the development section
Ok, I got Kies working this time. And it says there is a firmware upgrade. JH2.
Is this safe?
NM I found the other thread about it. Installing. Weee.

They're quite happy to do that actually, I got a brand new i9000 on Bell on Tuesday, I got an update today (their method of delivering these updates leaves a LOT to be desired) and it factory reset my phone.
That's because it was a full flash not just an update.

Yea it did wipe the phone. Not a huge deal.
Phone is definetly smoother, I'm happy.
Phone is smoother for sure. Quadrant is not much faster but it does not hang on the i/o tests like before.

thats the point why do we have to try different methods , we want it to work perfectly out of the box, or at least some minor bugs not bugs HUGE like this , btw this "design flaw/software flaw" only affects the galaxy s or affects the captitative, vibrant, epic 4g?
am haing the three buttons issue, so my question is it HW or SW issue??? please i want a sure answer thanks for your help
nobody knows but I suspect it's hardware related.
it appears to be a software thing
samsung promised to fix it on their next software release http://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada

i wish it is sw..however..my assumption is that it is hw related since if you take any older galaxy s and install any rom, the 3button mode works. in the new devices no matter how many different roms installed, problem remains.........lets just wait and see..i sent mine back to the store and got my money back. if they fix it WITH an official lag fix from samsung, i will buy it again. else it will be my last samsung phone(i had it only for a day )

I doubt they know enough to make promises yet.
This cannot be a hardware issue. The recovery and download modes can be accessed via adb, so that software is available as well. The only thing that is different is that the bootloader of the firmware (which cannot be flashed with the procedures we know) has the 3 button boot mode disabled.
I am pretty sure that samsung has the ability to replace the bootloader and I suspect that phones with the 3button disabled were requested by some carriers in order to disallow their customers from playing aroung with their phones.
about the update
lets say that android 2.2 is officially released ok,,,so how could i update my phone since as i know entering the download mode is one of the rule the upgrade the mobile ?!!!?!?!!!!!

Seems like there is a lot of coverage on TMOs version of the Vibrant. With the greatness of the leaked GPS+enhancements ROM, i'm wondering if that'll work on the Bell device. Also, if it is not compatible, if anyone has caught wind as to when Bell/Samsung will release the fix for us Canadians. Thanks!

Thanks for that! so there's one update for the recovery and then another coming soon for the GPS fix, etc?
I bought a Galaxy S from Bell Canada in august. Made the update to JH2 trough kies. Had the GPS bug (locked fine, but was sometimes way off (1-3 streets off)).
I told Bell. They said they didn't know any GPS problem affecting their device.
I tried many differents things, but I still had the problem so I recorded tracks with both my Hero and my Galaxy S to prove that the Galaxy S has a bug.
I called Samsung. I told them that I had a bug with the GPS. They said that they were not aware of any GPS bug affecting the GT-i9000M (the canadian version).
I went to Bell and asked for a repair. Seems like I was the first in Canada to report the problem because they told me again that there was no report on such problem, so it must be a specific problem with my device. They give me a Samsung Omnia II for the time of the repair. Worst touch screen ever, almost useless compared to a Galaxy S.
My device came back "repaired" (what they did was a factory reset and allegedly a ROM update, but it was JH2 before and after the repair, so this is bull****). In short they did nothing but loose my time.
Of course, I still have the exact same bug, the repair guy probably didn't even test it.
I call Bell again. Shock! Horror! They admit that there is a problem with ALL Galaxy S. Finally! Not that I told them since August... And it's not only in Canada, according to the tech support agent, it affects devices from all around the world. And that I shouldn't worry because the update to 2.2 will be released everywhere in the world in November and will fix that. Great!
Oh wait. The update to 2.2 is already released in some parts of Europe. I am not even sure that it fixes the GPS. At least I have an audio recording of Bell telling me that the bug will be fixed with an update in November. Better than nothing I guess.
+1
Two thumbs up for your effort. Hopefully canadian sgs froyo update comes on November like the rest of the world....

Good job. Please keep us posted when froyo released.

sorry to say but some tech reps are more informed than others because they take time to do their own independant research. One tech i talked to barley knew a thing about the galaxy S, while another rep was fascinated by it and couldnt wait to get their own. Mine is in repair for faulty internal SD, lets hope froyo will fix the gps, as i didnt send it in for that issue.
Those who know something about the Galaxy S (and other smartphones) are the so-called "data" support.
1-877-328-2123 (choose language and then select the first option in the menu)
I agree data support are the only ones that know anything. I called customer service like 5 times before they gave me someone that knew anything, ala data support.

Well, I think that of course the response is "we haven't heard about any bugs". It's business -- they aren't allowed to admit to anything unless an order comes from the top to announce that a certain bug .. or a few bugs have been found. I haven't seen any admittals from Samsung that SGS is slow, laggy and the 2.2 update is crap. Or that there are any bugs at all. That would crash sales.
Same here
I got pretty much the same info. been through the same ordeal. I don't think I can last til the end of november for a maybe fix that might not fix anything or might get pushed back to january or even february or??? At least now with them endorsing the issue it should not be as hard to fight for an exchange, maybe get a Z.....
root your bell sgs, go to /system/etc, open gps.conf
change from:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
To:
NTP_SERVER=xtra1.gpsonextra.net
you don't even have to change *#1472365#*. I get lock to 10 sat in Montreal within 30sec. give it a try!

Well that's not the GPS bug I am talking about. My GPS locks just fine (as already said). The problem is that it is not always precise. But anyways xtra1.gpsonextra.net seems farther aways (mesured by ping times) than north-america.pool.ntp.org, so it should not fix anything.
And north-america.pool.ntp.org works just fine on my HTC Hero.

Well the thing is, when you know that there is a bug and you hide it to increase your sales, you do not deserve any customers.

I am very curious as to what software you used to record that call?
You didn't use a Korean Galaxy S (SHW-M110S) by any chance, did you? Because its firmware has a native call recorder function that I would die to get my hands on, but unfortunately Samsung doesn't allow international Galaxy S users to flash to the Korean firmware Send me a PM if you know how to force flash it!

All companies do that. Focusing on all the bugs takes the attention from the good to the bad. Basic stuff. All the companies that made you any of the things you own operate on the same principle. This is business. This is life.
But this does not mean they are not working hard on fixing the issues -- believe me, they are. Our comments and complaints are very important in bringing these things out. Stuff that gets discussed here on XDA dev is _vital_.

Hi guys my Telus version of the Fascinate is coming this week and I'm looking forward to it.
Unfortunately I had the Bell Vibrant SGS version before this phone and my phone fell victim to the infamous internal memory issue and my phone turned into a giant paperweight.
More info about that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793404
Anywhoo... How is the Telus Fascinate? Any Bugs or other issues especially after upgrading to Froyo?
Thanks!...
No problems, flashed the update the day it was officially released.
Only problem I had with the update was mentioning that it existed.....
Works great on my Telus phone and I upgraded my bro's Bell phone and his works great as well. Noticeable speed up on the Bell phone (IIRC around 800 on Quadrant before the upgrade ane 850 after - still not the 1000 I get on the Telus phone....) Also really like the ability to now mount the external SD card as well as turn the data off/on with the power/side menu.
I've read that Froyo has slowed the phone down and also made GPS worse?
My experience with Froyo so far:
HTC Desire - Phone speed seemed the same and battery improved.
Bell Vibrant - Phone seemed slower, GPS still broken, and battery slightly worse.
^ (then the phone died within the week with the infamous internal memory Bell bug of death)
My Fascinate is still in transit but would you guys say that things are better, same, or worse with Froyo over Eclair on the Telus Fascinate?
*Edit* Also one more thing what are you guys using for Root since I really want to get the update and then the root hammered out on Day 1?... TIA!
^ Anyone...
I've had no problems with 2.2 other then the occasional slowdown. I think I'm lucky that my GPS has always worked... nothing wrong with my turn by turn directions. However, on maps the little blue dot that indicates where you are has always been weird.
So there is no internal SD card corruption error?
I'm thinking of selling my Bell i9000M and getting the TELUS Fascinate... the only downside is that there isn't as big a development group for the Fascinate...
