EVO2 Next June - EVO 4G General

I'm guessing weve seen the likely template for the Evo2 in the HTC Desire HD?

No way. Thats what I heard to from this site. Its the new Evo in 2011
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/htc-evo-....../

LOL... this thread is pathetic... I'm 150% sure that HTC is not planning on using the Desire HD as a template for a phone that is coming out 9 months from now (if even). There is no such thing as a phone being a template for another... period.

WHAAAT lol? Havent you wondered about the Evo2?
These choices of HTC in terms of Sense and especially Gui/processor (not the Desire hardware for Gods sake) to me begin to paint a picture.

Um...guys...the Desire HD is the world version of the EVO with HTC's latest software builds onboard, so no it is not in any way shape or form a successor device it is a sibling of the EVO. This is well known and publicized.

I okaaaay! Template is wrong word.
Im interested in what kind of upgrades might be in store for an Evo2.... and these kind of improvements begin to help.
That ok?!

My guess would be a S/AMOLED, improved 4G radio, and of course better CPU/memory/ROM/cams.

I think it would probably be SLCD instead of AMOLED given what happened with the Incredible and Desire. Whatever it'll be, I'm looking forward to it.

Samsung has everyone locked out of super AMOLED screens for like 18 months or something so it won't be that.

I know this may be off topic a bit but I know my next phone will have to have a screen equal to or larger than the Evo.
Everytime I hold a different phone it's just sad. So hopefully the Evo 2 looks like an iPad with Android

That folds up in 4's to the size of the Evo. While its folded up it can be used for texting, phone calls, and things we already do. Unfold all sides and you have a tablet with android.. Oh and there is zero creases in the screen when unfolding/folding.
And I definitely agree, I want a phone of similar size now that Iv had the Evo.

The "EVO 2" will be nothing like what is currently available. I suspect that we'll see the "EVO 2" come with 768MB - 1GB of RAM, 4+ inch display, dual core processor with a crazy GPU, and hopefully (please), a higher resolution display to take advantage of the big screen.

HTC is big on constantly putting out gradual and incremental updates. The new Desires are a small bump up from the Evo in specs and probably by next year, the next Sprint phone along the lines of the Evo will probably be a small bump up from that. The nice thing is that every year, these little upgrades have added up to something worth buying to replace your current phone.

4.3 or 4.5" would be the limit of being portable. Look at the Dell Streak if you want a reality check. The screen resolution can go up and S-LCD will be the screen. Retina display or the likes will be the push. Aluminum bodies like the Desire HD seems likely. They will probably thin out the phone and push Dual Core processors. 32GB next year will be the standard with 64GB being the step up. Hopefully by then they will push the audio/video through micro-sd a little more to get that standard down. It's being worked on now.

+ isn't as buggy as the other crap on the market. They learn from their mistakes and fix them in future releases. unlike samsung, who just releases and ditches.

The next EVO is going to be a 5" tube with a speaker on top and the mic at the bottom. It won't have a battery but will use a fuel cell that you only have to refill once a month. To see the screen you unroll the tube to use the 7x5 display. It will have 4GB of ram and a 1TB mem card, not to mention a Core i9 CPU.

wow...hilarius man...yeah...uhh really funny (that was Brian from Family Guy sorry)
In the process they also obviously have to address the two major criticisms of the Evo: 1. Battery life and 2. Fps cap.

Nexus 2

Okay, so I've had my Nexus one for a while now, and I was wondering what they could possibly do to the nexus 2 that would make it even better. I'm thinking probably a faster processor, and more ram, but what else comes to mind?
would love to see a FM Trans to like "broadcast" to the radio....Like those transmitters for mp3 players....Would be siiiick to have pandora or something playing over car radio via my phone
Don't they have something that does that already?
better use of the snapdragon processor, but that's software related... I would like it to be more durable such as made from a single block of aluminium. Also a powerful graphics chip.

The HTC Legend is a sexy beast lol. I'd like to get my hands on one if it goes GSM.
Yeah, a more powerful graphics chip would be awesome, I just can't wait til the big developers start moving towards android so we can have some of the awesome games and apps the iPhone has.

I second this. God that thing is amazing. But it won't look right until the Supersonic comes out. THEN a decent Rom will be possible in my eyes.
But with Windows Phone 7 I can imagine the devs are busy porting that to it right now.

Not that I could care less... but I would really love for the N2 to have a true multi-touch screen to shut that debate down... 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal ROM, 4" screen, XVGA LCD or SuperAMOLED... I don't like AMOLED for outdoor use. 10MP camera, with xenon flash... and of course Android 3.1!

For less than $500 right?
I will be keeping my Nexus for 2 or more years, whatever comes around the corner - i'll just port it over to the Nexus.. since the N1 is like the G1 in terms of development and popularity, I should be ok for a while..
(this is really what I'm just telling myself.. I dont want my precious Nexus to become.. not worth the time of day anymore...)
Why does technology have to advance so fast!! =(
front facing camera for video chat, a high quality speaker-phone, a kickstand with a projected laser keyboard? an hd projector component
hardware keyboard
x
I myself am sick of the having to chase technology.... I'm done for a bit, my n1 will sufficient for a year, I think thats a good time to get a new phone, once every year...
N1 just needs adobe flash and apps to sd and ill be happy as a cucumber....
Video recording capability @ 24 frames per second (constant!) with DECENT audio quality ... like the Milestone. Why have a 480x720 video resolution when the video is laggy and audio is utter crap? Also a flash option on the video recording would also be good - again, just like the Milestone.
Finally, make FM radio work and you have the perfect device.
the 1ghz processor is enough for me. the current amount of ram is enough- maybe a tad bump is cool.
get rid of the amoled display, 4-4.3 inch display. no trackball. sleep/wake from a hardware button like g1/mytouch. being able to shoot hd video.
other than that... having the nexus one has finally made me not eager to look/have the next best cellular device. this n1 almost kicks my netbooks ass

Agreed. Though I already know I won't be switching to any of them. I'm happy with my EVO but I have to say, if the EVO had that Super AMOLED display... jeez! Look at that Galaxy S startup screen! I love how AMOLED screens make the phone look like a real PURE black slab. I've actually been searching for a screen protector for my EVO to make it look consistent when the screen is off (all I've found are privacy screen protectors but hear they make the screen unresponsive, and mirror protectors have too much glare outside apparently).
The Galaxy S Series phones do have many pros but I really have no need for a faster GPU (I don't game much outside of Drop 7 or Speed X 3D). TouchWiz isn't very appealing but the new version has some REALLY cool features judging from the Youtube video showing it off. But still, the EVO does everything I need and more and the developer community behind it is the best hands down. I have no battery problems, I've already been guaranteed a replacement for light leakage when the new shipments come in and the 30fps has a workaround, and will be fixed in due time I'm sure (thought it never really bothered me in the first place).
I'll hold out for the next monster phone, which I'm sure will be available around the holiday season. I have another upgrade in October.
I also want to watch and see if Samsung has improved their support for their devices and wait and see what problems/issues arise from the Galaxy S lineup. If Samsung can prove to me that they've changed their ways then I'd be more than happy to be an adopter of the Galaxy S2!
Quite frankly, I thought the video review by that guy wasn't great at all. I don't care about his opinions, I just want to see the results/facts. I'll make my own judgments. That said, the Galaxy S is one sick phone, something I'd consider getting, but at the moment I have no need for it nor do I wish to get rid of my EVO or remove myself from the best community I've seen since registering with XDA.
Though, I will say -- being a Sprint Premier customer, I do have the option to upgrade to a new phone come November, so we'll see. I get a new phone about every 8 to 12 months anyway, so when something better comes along, it's only inevitable that'll I'll end up looking into it. However, one thing is for sure -- I won't be buying any phone that doesn't have a the same size screen (4.3") or something very comparable. I can't even look at a small screen anymore.
I love my Evo but seeing some of the performance on the Galaxy S, I wish I had this choice a month ago. *Grumble*
His Evo took forever to load up. Mines don't take that long unless I just loaded up a kernel or new Rom.

Seriously. I booted my Evo in sync with the video and it was at the desktop before he was off the white screen. It was faster than the GS as far as SD card prep and widget loading too. He's sandbagging it.

Yeah I thought it was just me for a second but I was sitting there thinking "I KNOW my Evo doesn't take nearly that long to load up". His Evo was also extremely slow and choppy. When I run the Mario Live Wallpaper, everything is fast and smooth and scrolling stays smooth and intact. His wallpaper lagged a lot. He must have a lot of stuff on his phone that's slowing it down or something.. and I thought I had a bunch of crap on mine...

Both are great phones.
Personally, I am holding off on AMOLEDs for the next few years. It's a up and coming display technology which will replace most, if not all conventional LCD's.
However, at the moment it is not as reliable as current LCDs. AMOLEDs have a shorter lifespan and can consume more power...

Unfortunately it will run wp7, which tears my heart out that it doesn't have android. Hopefully there will be someone that will root it and be able to install android on it since android is open source.
Pretty much identical to the evo with a better processor, .2 bigger screen, amoled display, 16gb internal storage with 32gb support of sd card, 1gb ram (vs 512mb on evo).
Camera will be probably as ****ty as evo, but it still lacks android. idk how well wp7 will perform but from what i've seen android is a lot better in my mind.
Might wait a few months after it's release to see if it gets rooted and droided to buy it. Even with hardware specs, I don't think I could make a move to wp7 from android.
wow, definitely too bad that's for winmo
Surely a comparable (or better) EVO successor won't be too far off
C'ya sucka!
The hardware is not that much better. The real selling point of any phone now is OS. And Android is a clear winner to me. WM7 or WebOS may be awesome in the future...but it will take time to catch up, especially in apps.

uhm yes there is. amoled > lcd, up to 48gb of data, 2x amount of ram (meaning more 3d apps, and faster performing phone), and as we know the .3 inch on screen makes a HUGE difference, another .2 will be killer, and the processor is newer (still snapdraggon but newer).
It's like taking all the good things about an evo, and then taking all the good things about epic and putting it together, plus some more. If this phone is released and not just another rumor, it would kill iphone4. Same hardware specs pretty much plus bigger screen, and 4g. Then all the iphone4 fan boys will stop jacking off at the sight of their phone.
The only minus is wp7, but i'm pretty sure that some dev is going to figure a way to run android on it. An android phone will never run wp7 because wp7 is not open source, but android is and so is htc sense. Meaning that someone will be able to port the same exact rom as htc stock to it, but this might or might not happen.
IMO Android will see a similar device. Hopefully Sprint picks it up.

it's not open source per say, but with the right kernel it can be packaged into the phone.
And as for multi tasking, it does offer it. you can have multiple first party apps running. It's just limiting the 3rd party apps from running because of battery issues. I've talked to multiple people that have tested out wp7 and they say battery is conserved REALLY well by doing this. Cutting down on third party apps draining battery. And that htc has a smaller battery than the evo, but i bet the one on hd3 lasts longer.
But this all doesn't matter since I'm not looking to get wp7. You guys took me as if I was supporting wp7. The hardware would do wonders for android, hence why i want to see a port before i buy it.
BUT then again, from some sources that have told me that you will be able to play xbox arcade games on it which use some AMAZING 3d graphics for a phone, versus android which has well pretty ****ty 3d games.
and as far as navigating and calling goes, you will be able to accomplish that easily. And stream music, just not from subsonic.

I'm 99% sure it's fake. That photo has been circulating around for a very long time now. If the CPU spec is faked, so is the rest of it. With the HD3 expect nothing more than the Desire HD but with more storage -- maybe a update to the single core 1.3 GHz CPU.
Besides, it ain't about what kind of tool you have, it's all about how you use it!
it's not fake, but it isn't what it should be. Did some digging around and found this.

Uh, what are you smoking? The Shift has 512 mb ram.
And the only difference with this phone and the EVO appears to be a .2 inch difference on the screen, and super amoled.
You'd still be trading in a higher resolution, 3D, and a dedicated camera button for this phone.
I look at it this way. I won't be due for upgrade til January, so I'll looking in December, at what's out there. My only mistake with the Evo was that it was already out 6 months when I got it, although it was good in that a LOT of development had already been done on it, still, my next upgrade will be a newer device.

Well losing 3D isnt really a big loss lol... at all. And as far as the resolution, the SAMOLED screen display is still the best there is anyways.
4.5"!!! Dear lord. After having an Evo, I want my next phone to be a 4"... of course it seems like the specs go up with screen size, which is stupid. I don't see awesome specs in anything less than a 4.3 these days.
The Evo 3d and Sensation will both have locked bootloaders(so the rumors say) plus the 3d has a ****ty 5mp camera(ok 2 of them but who the hell cares about taking 3d pics?) and the sensation has no 4G and only 1GB of internal memory(WTF HTC?).. Also this phone(as well as the Galaxy S 2) is made by Samsung. So, while you may be positively torn by this difficult decision, I assure you that I speak for many of us here when I say "MEH, I'm good with my Evo".

My friend recently got a Thunderbolt when it was only out 2 weeks and there were barely any ROMS for it, it was a NIGHTMARE to root and he had hardware problems(which supposedly will be fixed in later versions). However when I got my phone, it had a TON of dev work done on it, and the hardware kinks were sorted out. Of course if you don't wanna root/flash etc then a brand new phone would do great. But I wouldn't want one. Not to mention you never know when the newest phone will be a success or not. Some phones never "take off" and so the Devs don't do much for them. But by getting a slightly older phone I was able to make sure that the there was a large DEV community devoted to it. Some of the device forums for android phones are down right depressing in their lack of goodies!!
Lol, to crush? Really?

The Evo 3d and Sensation will both have locked bootloaders(so the rumors say) plus the 3d has a ****ty 5mp camera(ok 2 of them but who the hell cares about taking 3d pics?) and the sensation has no 4G and only 1GB of internal memory(WTF HTC?).. Also this phone(as well as the Galaxy S 2) is made by Samsung. So, while you may be positively torn by this difficult decision, I assure you that I speak for many of us here when I say "MEH, I'm good with my Evo".

the new 5mp sensors should be better than our 8mp ones, just because of quality. iphone's 5mp KILLS our 8mp any day. so this to me says the 3d will be better than the evo in every way (minus kickstand, and maybe the dreaded bootloader lock, in which case the sgs2 will be the best probably)

Uh, what are you smoking? The Shift has 512 mb ram.
And the only difference with this phone and the EVO appears to be a .2 inch difference on the screen, and super amoled.
You'd still be trading in a higher resolution, 3D, and a dedicated camera button for this phone.

My mistake, I was talking about the rom. Also, I was only speaking of the actual hardware of the 2 phones, not the features of them.

That's really just an assumption tho. The reason(according to my google search) that we have crappy cameras isn't the sensor it's the fact that the video has to be compressed as it's recorded(even for stills) to the SD card. SD cards are slow. iPhones don't have them. They don't need the compression. The same manufacturer actually makes the cameras for both HTC Evo and Iphone 4. I'm not a DEV so if that's not true don't blame me that's just what I'm reading. Anyway, since the Evo3D has only 4g Internal it's a pretty safe bet that they will still be writing to an SD card. So unless HTC has figured out how to compress better(and that may not even be possible for all I know) then I'm very worried that the camera's won't be better at all. But if the 5mps look better than the 8mps we have now, and IF there is no locked bootloader then and only then would I even consider an Evo 3D. So here's hoping that they read this post and scrap them all and start over! We want our kickstand!
**** the Whales, Save Our Kickstands!
When will a andriod phone be developed with internal memory like a iphone?
sent from my evo, *****!

hahaha, can't wait
They didn't mentioned anything like SGS3. Don't be surprised if it is named something like "The New Galaxy" lol.
Please don't make it 4.65" screen. Its too big!!!

who's getting on the train
I would like to see 4,3 inch screen.. ;p
Galaxy S z Tapatalk
A Resolution with 1280x720 with 4" is not necessary or? So i think it would be a 4,5" or above smartphone, it looks very funny at the ear . A 4" screen with the display of the sgs2 would be nice.

wouldn't mind a 5.3" but that's reserved for the note
Hmmm they say "come meet the new galaxy" is this the sgsIII or the new nexus either or I can't wait to get my hands on one... 4.6" is a lil excessive but as we can tell by the note here comes the year of the phablet.. even so I say bring it on!!!!

I hope Samsung will release also some info about support of Android versions for this model.
Many people are mad with them for SGS(+) and Ice Cream Sandwich
I don't really care what size the screen is or how many gigaflops it's millions of cores can produce, just don't make it look like crap or make it out of something that creaks if you even glance at it.
Truth is that I will not replace my i9000 to S3 until S3 will be made differently I mean like steel all around (including screen frame) with carbon fiber battery cover, if it is going to be better - it should be better in every single way not just specs. I use my i9000 like an egg and it already have scratches on frame close to usb input and back cover because of my nail. No scratches on screen but i have tiny little dot on glass i do not know how it got there. Samsung was going with galaxy series very well - time to make a quad core tank with lifetime usage possibilities.

and what i want is to charge it up while using HDMI or OTG with USB-hub or dock station, with NTFS 64GB microsd for files bigger than 4GB

So your main criterion for choosing a phone is how it looks?
I've been waiting for this... Will it be the one for real?
surely will have great spec, but just wondering if it's worth its size??? not sure if will replace my SGS (one) or simply buy a tablet to meet my need for internet browsing while on the move... and hope the battery will last for 24hrs of normal usage (two emails/calendars sync on, various apps, internet etc) without looking for power outlet mid-day. My SGS hardly last for one day on one charging...
You could fit a 4.6" screen on a phone around the size of the i9000 if you ditched hard keys and had the screen almost edge-to-edge. I won't buy a phone you need to wear on your belt.e
What's the story with new phones coming in at 4.6"+ displays?
I would think the original galaxy S at 4'' was superb fit for pocket and portability. Increase that to 320ppi with a superamoled HD display and voila we have new SGSIII.
I can't see why they going for such big displays. I even have the 4.3"" HD2 and that's the max I would see for a phone.
There will be disappointment and exhilaration with this release. Either way I am buying this regardless....
EDIT: I am hoping for Wolfson DAC in the audio output. It must have this dac..
See you all in the SGS3 forums on XDA

Not at all, we all know this thing is going to be a beast of a phone, so I have no worries about it's performance, but I want something that doesn't look like it was designed by an art student trying to be "edgy"
But it is getting to the point now where they will all be more powerful than any of us realistically need for the near future, so the look (OLED vs TFT is becoming more of a non-issue) is the only real thing that's going to differentiate them. I don't like the HTC aesthetic, it's just boring to me, Sony have gone all bling again and others like Motorola just seem to design their phones for corporate boardrooms.
Samsung just seem stuck trying to refine the "not iPhone" shape of the SGS 1 in Europe, and it's getting a little boring, time for something new. And it will probably save them a few quid if Apple can't keep suing them because of a physical home button.
