[Q] Importing Contacts from HTC Touch - Wildfire General

As mentioned earlier, I am unable to run HTC Sync in Windows 2003.. Is there an easier way to import my contacts from my old HTC Touch (WM 6.1) to HTC Wildfire (Android 2.1).. any software, format, process recommended to do it easily? I also have contacts in MS Outlook on PC.. can that help?!

Do you have a Gmail/googlemail account?
Set up an exchange account in activesync on the Touch using your gmail account. This will transfer your contacts to Google, then you can set up the same account on the Wildfire and sync them back. Works for your calendar too
That is how I got mine from my Touch Pro 2

You can aslo direct import from your touch using bluetooth, Instruction in the manual. (That's how I did it when I first use Wildfire). I also used the the method described by <Stunno> above since I have an exchange account.

Thanks a lot.. will try and get back!

The google thing works for me, as soon as i log into my google account all my contacts are loaded to my phone, is pretty handy.

Migrating from a Touch Diamond

Hi,
Contemplating on buying the Hero. I have been using PIM backup for years. Can I migrate it all accross? What is the syncing like with Outlook please?
Cheers,
Will
There is no version of PIM Backup for Android at present (can't see it in the future either).
Though you could use a trial version of 4smartphone.com or a free exchange host to sync your email and contacts and the download them to the hero. This is what I did.
The only thing missing was the text messages - but that was fine for me.
I have gone from a Diamond (Ignito) to a Hero and i love it...
What i did was sync my contact in outlook and then export them to e CVS file and uploaded it to my GMail account.
Sync with GMail and now i have all my contacts on my phone, its great
im uesing roadsync to sync with microsoft exchange ... its works quite well ish apart from the contacts i ended up with two of everything
but calender and email are fine and its free
cant go wrong
Also went from a Touch Diamond to a Hero. All my contacts and calendar were linked with my Gmail account, so transferring it across was a doddle. Only issue at the moment is having a different phone number for 3 days while the PAC code is actioned.
i went from a Touch Diamond to a Hero aswell and all i did was sync my contacts to outlook and then had to sync them back with htc sync to the hero and all was good.
Went from Diamond to Hero, I use HTC Sync for calendar and contacts sync with Outlook 2007, works fine.
I went from a Diamond to Hero too.
Firstly, I can now understand what i have been missing out on by not having a capacitive touch screen!
Also, I synced my outlook contacts with google contacts first. Using some freeware called: GO Contact Sync.
Its a good simple app. From there its easy, the hero will autosync with google contacts and voila!
All you have to do is run the program every so often to keep it all up to date.
I also made the switch but from Diamond2 and after YEARS on Windows Mobile devices... very easy to use. 2007 exchange server working perfectly with Contacts, calendar and mail. It's fantastic. OK there's a few issues with the smoothness of the UI at times but hey I remember the first releases of TFL3D and that was far worse than this... and look how smooth it is now. So. I'm sure this will be improved by HTC very soon.

Synchronise contacts with exchange?

Hi All,
I just got my HTC Magic today (32B), and managed to debrand and install Cyanagen on there sucesfully. I can setup the exchange sync, and all my emails synch properly, however contacts don't seem to have synched properly. It synchs the names of the contacts fine, but everything else is just added to the "notes" section of a contact, it doesn't copy emails + telephone numbers over at all?
This is connecting to exchange 2007, and works fine on both iPhone and an XDA Orbit that I have? (this is my 1st android phone)
Any ideas?
Thanks
You need to use a rom that has the new "HTC Mail" application and not the "HTC work for email"
Look at this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555499
Thank you very much, i'll go and flash that one now

Sync contacts from home PC but calandar and mail from work exchange server?

Hi
I was just wondering if it possible to sync my contacts from my home PC using Outlook and my calandar and mail from my works Outlook exchange server on the HD2.
I am a current iPhone user and am interested in moving over to the HD2 as it looks like an awsome phone. I can do the above on the iPhone but can't find any information as to wheather this is possible on the HD2. Searched the forums but can't find an answer!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.
You can select to only link (via Exchange) your calendar and mail, I've done this. Then you just need to configure Activesync or Mobile Device Center to sync your contacts with Outlook.
Yes you can, a friend of mine has it set up that way. As Nighthawk said, it's just a case of configuring the sync right (you just have to tick boxes, so nothing challenging there!)
Dont know whether it helps, but I use an excellant app called Chronobis which allows me to pull (one way) my calendar from my work exchange server. It will also handle email & contacts.
I'm using this as I dont want to mix my home outlook contacts & calendar which I sync with Active Sync with my work stuff.
So I sync normally with Activesync and then download my work calendar which merges with my HD2 calendar... when I do an activesync... both work and home calendars are then together in Outlook.
I think in your situation you will be fine as you are not trying to "merge" contacts and calendars from 2 places at the same time.
Brilliant, thanks for your replies guys.
Yes this can be done, i do this with two exchange servers, one from my work and the other my gmail account.
Basically i sync my calendar and contacts with both and only sync my email from work.
I did this on my polaris and now on my hd2. Initially i wasn't too sure if the the hd2 would do this natively so i went with the regitry hack i used on my polaris. Perhaps someone could confirm that this can be done on the hd2 without the registry hack.
Here is the link to what i did with my polaris (and now my hd2).

That is what I had to do with my FUZE. I sync my phone with hotmail then imported the contacts to gmail. Then on the home screen when to settings and then accounts and sync and found the gmail account. Then hit sync contacts. That's it. I come from over 6yrs of being a winmo and HTC phone fanboy and so far android has been great.

The easiest way is to sync your Diamong with Gmail. Here is how. If you do not have a Gmail account already, create one, then:
1) Launch activesync
2) Add a server source. The server address is m.google.com, your username is the whole GMAIL address, including the @gmail.com and your password is your password (duh). Select the "USE SSL" option, and at the end when it asks you what to sync, deselect everything except for contacts.
If you already deactivated your Diamond and your Epic is active now, you can still do this, just jump on WiFi with the Diamong.
You can also get your Calendar out this way. Just make sure you Gmail account calendar is active if not already (select the Calendar link at the top of page in Gmail, and follow the prompts to get the calendar set up). Then when setting up Activesync on the Diamond, at the point where you deselected everything but Contacts, leave Calendar active as well.
Another option if you dont wan to do the OTA method, is to sync your Diamong with the USB cable via Activesync on your PC with outlook, then export your contacts as a CSV file, then import it into Gmail, finally logging into that Gmail account on your Epic.
The last and perhaps easiest method, is take it to take both phones to a local Service and Repair center. They will happily switch your contacts free of charge for you. And if it is an Authorised S&R center (meaning not Sprint corp owned) Sprint actually pays them for doing the service for you, which is quick, easy, and painless.
to trully transfer them easily use migrate from the market...keeps your info and contact picture from winmo...(did it from my old TP2).
I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 and I just used Bluetooth to transfer all of the contacts. I believe the same should work on the Diamond.

[Q] I don't want my Win Live Messenger Contacts

Title pretty much explains!
With facebook and secondary email accounts, under settings you can disable them from importing contacts into WP7's contact area... but with the main Windows Live ID you use to activate the phone, there's no tick box to disable the importing of messenger contacts.
Now my phonebook has like 300 entries of people who don't even have phone numbers... help?! Please!
Yeah! I've got the solution for you, i run into this problem as soon as i got my activation code and got my hotmail account up and running, all you got to do is go to your mail account and delete all the contacts in the contacts page then re-sync your live account from your phone and *bam* unwanted contacts are gone!

Then all your contacts store in Hotmail are gone?
I have just posted this against another similar post, would it work?
I posted this elsewhere and didnt get any real work arounds.....
(I returned my OE WP7 and returned to HD2 on WM6.5).
However, just a thought.....
MyPhone is only for WM6.5 but using ActiveSync you can sync mail, contacts, calendar & tasks with Outlook. I read on the Microsoft forum that you can download Hotmail Contacts to Outlook, and export from Outlook to Hotmail.
If I were to return to WP7, which no doubt I will do:
Contacts:
I would Sync WM6.5 with Outlook, then upload them to the Hotmail account I would be using on WP7. I remember (and may stand corrected) that when you register the Hotmail account on the device, the Contacts are automatically downloaded.
WM6.5 using Windows Live allows you to download Hotmail contacts to my phone, so I guess they would also sync.
Doesnt cure my original issue that I wanted my Phone and Hotmail contacts seperate. I may have to create an additional Hotmail account for that?
Calendar:
On my version of Outlook, I can have two calendars showing - one for the PC which is synced to my phone and one which is my Hotmail. I havent found a way to automatically sync them, but its easy tp drag an appointment from say my PC calendar to Hotmail and therefor on to WP7.
Regarding texts, theres no way like MyPhopne, just copy what you can to your sim card I am afraid.
Does that sound like it might work?
