[Q] saving extension in contact? - XPERIA X10 General

I was wondering.. is there a way to save a number in contact list so that it will automatically dial the extension as well?
So for example, I use a calling card a lot because I don't have a long distance plan on my phone..
and let's say the calling card company number is
123-444-5555
and the PIN is 9898-7878-6767
Normally, I would call 123-444-5555 and then I hear "welcome to blah blah blah, please press your PIN" then I press 989878786767.
Sure I can memorize them, but I go through these cards fairly quickly and it's kind of annoying having to remember 12 digit number not in sequence.
So is there a way to save this in my contact list so that my phone will automatically dial the PIN after hearing 'please press your pin" ???
Thank you!

You should be able to use commas (at the end of the first 10 digits and before the extension number) to achieve the necessary pause before it dials the extension. This is one thing the blackberry handles very well. For Example, 123-456-7890,,,1234
Should be the same for the pin but you will have to experiment with the number of commas necessary to time the entry correctly.

Storing Number during phone call?

Hey guys,
I've been plauding my MDA ever since I laid my hands on it. However, yesterday when I was on the phone, I realised I couldn't find a way of storing a number - which I assumed was quite a standard function!
For example, on a conventional phone, I simply key in the number, then select the save tab and hey presto. Or I can key in the number, and once the call finishes, the number remains on screen for me to save it.
Do you happen to have any idea/suggestion/programme suggestion that can possibly solve this dilemma? I mean, is there an alternative "phone" programme than that stored on the MDA?
Many thanks again
I've done some messing around and I think I've got it.
For those interested:
During the call, key in the new number and press the green "call" button. As I don't have Line 2, I get a message that "Operation has failed" and cancels the new dial.
This can be repeated as much as you want and when you are finished with the call, go to Call History, hold down on number and save.
However, what happens if you do have Line 2? How do you cancel the new outwards dial without cancelling the current call?

Phone number with a pause

Hi,
Does anyone know how to call a number and insert a pause in it?
I mean calling a number like +44 (make pause)7716(make pause)123456789
I tried to insert some "standard" character like , w p * # () but windows mobile does not recognize the numer as valid.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Cheers,
Mats
Where ever you need a pause use one of these (,) not including the brackets. It wont work from the direct dialer but you can use it as a number stored in contacts
where would one use a pause?
i guess for two pauses, one would do ,,

Well.. Banking via phone for one thing..
1. Call bank
2. Press account number
3. Press password
4. Press "2" to check how much you've got..
That's an awfull lot of numbers..
With a pause, one can just store the number on the phone.
As for security; maybe not so smart..
But that is just one possible use for a pause..
ah that makes sense
one can have the calling card number too
dial access number, pause pause, dial passcode, pause pause, dial number
is there no calling card number utility in the xda?
if there isnt any way, can i dial two number in succession.
i mean the first bunch of numbers (access number pause pause, dial passcode, pause pause
seond bunch of numbers - regular international destination

Dialing an extension

Does anyone know what character to store in a contacts' number so that I can dial straight through to an extension?
E.g. my work number is 01436 111111 extension 9999 - I thought if I stored it as 01436111111*9999 and hit Dial, it would ring straight through.
But no matter how many stars or hashes (#) I put, it always just rings the first part (i.e. connects me to the automated switchboard.
Cheers
you need to put a "p" in their for a pause.
You can put multiple p's if one isn't a long enough pause before it starts dialing the extension
I.E:
01436111111p9999
I don't think you can do this when you're dialing a number, but you can do it when you save a contact number. So just put the number in your contacts and you'll be good 8)

How do you call a phone extension?

Hi, I've tried searching the forums, but i'm having no luck. I recently got the T-Mobile MDA (great phone, btw), and I was wondering if anyone can advise on how to enter numbers into your contacts, so that you can include a persons extension. This is a feature that I would like to know so that I can call friends and family at their work numbers, where I would have to call the company number, wait for the automated receptionist, and then dial the person's extension.
I use to be able to do this with a Samsung phone that I had for Verizon using a "p" pause feature, which would wait an additional 2 seconds per "p", followed by entering the persons extension. (ie, if you were to enter "(123) 456-789 ppppp 12345", the phone would dial (123) 456-789, wait 10 seconds (5p's = 5 x 2 seconds), then dial 12345.
if the above explanation was confusing, maybe you can check the info from samsumg's site at
http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer...D=557&PROD_SUB_ID=561&PROD_ID=613&AT_ID=24794
it gives an explanation of this "p" pause feature (not my previous phone, but still same feature).
overall, this would make my life easier when i use voice dialing, so that when i'm driving and want to call someone, i don't have to look down at my phone bad and try to touch the numbers (which are a bit inconvenient on the MDA), for the person's extension.
thanks for any advise you can offer.
Use a comma instead of "p"
i.e.
123 456-7899 ,,,,, 12345
thanks lotech, it worked. this will definitely save me from getting into a car accident.
Free program download
Hi there,
I have used this little gem of a program, it allows you to add numbers before and after the number you wish to dial. Very useful if you have a cheap international call contract from your mobile i.e. you have to dial a landline number which connects you. Hope this is of use to you all. keep up the good work site, Cheers.

inserting pauses for Wing speed dialing

No one at T-Mobile has the answer and HTC tech support referred me here. I dial my office voice mail maybe 10-15 times a day. On my Sprint phone I was able to insert pauses in the dialing. It would dial the number, pause for the voice command, add a string of numbers, pause for the next voice command, and finally put in my password. So I could press 3, for example, and it would take me all the way through to my messages. So far I can not find a way to put in the pauses on the Wing. So I have to press 3 and then wait for the voice command, and then manually put in the next string of numbers, then wait again for the next voice command, and then put in the password. This is time consuming and impossible to do while driving. Anyone know if it can be done on the Wing? If so, how? Thanks, Tom
I have not tried it on the Wing... But try just putting a comma "," in the dialing string... Should work.... Does on all my other phones......
Commas
I tried this. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think so. In my contacts I go to the phone number. Here is the string I use (with x's for most of the numbers): 1802xxxxxxx,,,#802xxxxxxx,,,xxxxxx
I have this as a speed dial and also as a T-Mobile Fav. Any way I try to dial it it only dials the 1802xxxxxxx and then stops.
There is no way to insert pauses
I have now been told by someone who seems to know at T-Mobile that the Wing has no way to insert pauses into a contact phone number. To me this is a near fatal flaw. It means that if I call my office voice mail 5-10 times a day I have to type 16 extra digits (which includes my phone number and my password) each time I try to get my messages. Oh well.

I have 'p' as a pause digit and it works fine to call my voice mail for example...
P's don't work for me

Tried it on the Wing but no luck. When I dial with the P's added, the dialing never gets past the first string of numbers. On the dialing screen there are no P's and nothing past the first string. This is true for comma's also. When I tried it with ***'s it did appear, these did appear on the dialing screen of the Wing when I dialed but the call clicked off without dialing with the message, "Call Ended." One thing I noticed is that Outlook takes anything after the first string of numbers and puts the rest under "Extension" and puts an x before it. But I'm having the problem even if I enter the number only on the Wing and not in Outlook.
My mistake -- p's work and also commas

Yes! I see what I was doing wrong. A comma or a "p" both work fine. Thanks for the help.
One problem remains: I have this number as one of My Fav's, and if I dial it using My Fav, it doesn't do the pauses. I think I have to wait until July 1 and refresh the My Fav. -- I hope.
And what have you done wrong? (Just to solve this one exactly)

At least this: When did the speed dial (after inserting the pauses), at least a few times I did not wait long enough for the pause to kick in. On my Sprint phone I think it happened quicker with more pauses (I think), and I was used to have it happen quickly.
The Call Ended message that kept happening may possibly have been due to being out of a service area, but I tested at the time and other calls were going through, so I'm not sure what happened.
Finally, I haven't synced it back with my desktop yet. I hope the Outlook on the desktop doesn't screw things up.
One more thing if it is useful: T-Mobile has these My Fav's. If I dial using the speed dial or directly from the number itself, it is working. But if I dial directly from the My Fav's it does not insert the pause. I think the reason is that I uploaded the My Fav number to T-Mobile before I put in all the pauses, so T-Mobile must have it and be using it without the pauses. On the first of the month I intend to upload it again with the pauses and see if that will work. Hope so.
Thanks, Tom
we can also use a 'w' to insert a wait
along with the 'p' for pause, a 'w' can also be used to insert a wait. That would be useful when you are not sure how long to pause and want control of when to send the rest of the DTMF sequence. If you insert a 'w', you have to keep pressing the Green Call button and it will keep sending the DTMF sequence till the next 'w' in the number.
I use that very frequently to dial international phone numbers with different calling cards.
a w may work on the wing, most current android phones it seems like a ";" is whats required for the wait tone. also a comma is used for pause (3 seconds)but the easiest way i found to do it is by simply pressing the menu button while in the dialpad screen, it will pop up with options to add wait's or pause's
