Anyone else noticing their power button "squeaks" when pressed? Maybe that's not the right word. Almost sounds like a leather shoe on a shiny floor. Just started happening a while ago. Have had my Evo about 2 months.
Doesn't so far seem to be an issue, other than really seems to cheapen the device and ruin the sleakness of it
I have a squeaky volume button
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
^ 1+ it only does it sometimes but it's irritating. I only notice it when I hold the phone with two hands and try to put the volume up. Doesn't happen when I use one hand. Maybe it's the angle.

Haha, I was amused after I read your comment and then saw your sig..
I have no complaints about the buttons. Sounds like you have some dust around them or something.
The only gripe I have about this phone is the dust door (aka the headphone jack). The top left corner of my screen is lousy with dust
My Power button isn't squeaky, but it's mushy / sticky. Sometimes I have to press very hard, or press several times for the device to lock/unlock.

How would I know if there's dust around the buttons?
If there is any, it isn't visible.
I have a squeaky -vol button and it drives me nuts too.

Does your Blackstone make creaking/squeaking noises when you press the glossy black plastic area around the USB port?
Mine creaks like an old bed even with light pressure. This is annoying because when the phone is on a table and I want to press the power button, I'll press on the bottom area of the phone to anchor the device.
So far I've compared with my buddy's set, and his Blackstone needs much more pressure before it creaks.
For a flagship device that costs so much, I really didn't expect to see this!
Yeah, mine creaks as well. It's annoying but you get used to it.
Not only at the USB port, though, at the back below the camera as well.
Don't know about everyone else's experience...but mine creaks only after it gets a little warm, ie while charging, heavy use, etc. It doesn't creak at all when it's cool. When it's warm, it creaks mostly in the virtual button area and isn't that bad, although it did scare me the first time it happened ha
My case is deformed, so it makes a clicking noise, and I can press it in, below the Volume controls. Annoying as hell!
After trying it, yeah mine actually does creak when I press it near the USB port... But I have to press pretty hard. Not noticable. But the loose, discount feel I get from press the side below the Volume buttons is unbearable!!! :'(
My HD make also clicking noise below the volume buttons. Except of this anything else is ok. No cracking on usb port, no dead pixel.

Still annoying though, ain't it? It's an expensive phone, I'd expect it to be top class... Really a big letdown for me. Reminds me of my Nokia N81 8GB... Squeaky as friggin' hell! Plastic all the way through!
I'll consider myself lucky then.... my HD is built like a tank. Noticed no creaks at all or pressure points. Way more solid compared to my old Touch.

You'll get there. Mine was ok for the first month. Started creaking beside volume buttons and it was barely noticeable at first, now it's really bad.
It also starts creaking near the power button and in other places.

Same here, creaking below volume buttons...near usb port...And 2 dead pixels! what luck
This problem is definitely a manufacturing defect.
I expect that HTC decided on a plastic back (which is also available on a lot of other mobile phones, but they just under specified the thickness of the material, maybe to save weight and make the phone slimmer, who knows.
However, it is annoying when it occurs, and HTC should provide a replacement cover free of charge.
The problem does seem to become more apparent with usage and heat.
Some users have reportedly strategically placing a piece of paper inside the back cover to alleviate the issue.

I agree, and I'd really be delighted if they did... Like jumping up and down-delighted.
EDIT:
I've sent an e-mail to HTC about this problem, as I can see many people are having the same problems. I told them of the annoying squeaks and creaks, and if they were going to fix it in the near future, free of charge.
yeah, here in china me and my HD users all have this noise.
mine creaks only after it gets a little warm, ie while charging, heavy use, etc. It doesn't creak at all when it's cool.
Mine creaks around the usb port even if I touch it there very gently. And it's becoming more and more noisy with time! plus it started creaking when I touch the touch screen firmly. I am starting to be afraid it will fall apart someday because of this. I have never droped it, sat on it, and I never put it in my trousers pocket, whenever i put it out of my hand i put it in this sock that came with the phone. So why is this creaking getting louder?!?!? HTC should do something to fix this problem!!!
yes mine too. beside the volume buttons and on the other side.
2 stripes of paper are the solution. I got normal office paper, cut stripes and bend it on double size, noch creaking any more...
but it's a pain in the ass to put the stripes into the phone...

Shield your HD with ZAGG INVISIBLE SHIELD, it may reduce the creaking!
not looking forward to it
I didn't know the Blackstone had this problem. Although mine sort of has a few little spots that have very minor creaking, I have only had it for a week and I could see where it might get worse. But I have a worse problem. My vibrate doesn't work! And its a manufacturer's defect. I never dropped it or anything like that, I am very disappointed about that. I will have to get a replacement I suppose, but I do look forward to my new creaking phone, lol
blacksage
Mine didn't creak in the beginning but after many back cover removals it creaks like crazy. I just bought a new type of cover that is tough soft plastic and less elastic than silicon. It fits perfectly and really tight. That has stopped mine from creaking...at least for the time being.

This is my solution.
The creaking sounds is gone from the back cover part but is still present when I press on the stylus (the shiny part of the bottom) and around the charging plug.
My Touch Pro had the same problem with plastic parts that could be pressed in.
Too bad that devices in the price range have this problem.
Pretty much all HTC devices have had some kind of build problem sine the beginning of when they started releasing phones. Dust problems on the screen (behind the front cover) were quite common back in the days.
So I use the T-Mo black gel case and love it. I get annoyed when I take the phone out because the volume rocker is loose and rattles.
I finally gave up and went ghetto. I took about a 1/2" of tape and rolled it up twice and left just a little of the sticky side showing.... popped it down and snapped the case back on.
Phone is snug, you cant see the tape (covered by case entirely), it is not going to move out of place... the volume rocker works, and best yet, there is no rattle.
I admit this is ghetto and should not be needed on a nice phone like this.... that said, it works, and works well. Anyone have any other suggestions (other than returning the phone)?
I'll try and snap a pic later... difficult now, as my phone IS my camera most days.
So that's where the rattle is coming FROM! I have three phones from the Amazon fire sale and one of them was rattling. I has to shake it in a weird angle and the sound never came back. But I'm definitely subbing for this when the sound comes.back. thanks
I don't hear any rattling either
Didn't notice this rattle previously, now i can't stop noticing

Sorry, not implying all phones have this... But it seems to be a common problem.
I have creaking/play on the opposite side. Pressing on the chrome trim on the right side of the phone in certain places gives me some creaking.

I noticed it the second I pulled it out of the box. It is definitely the volume button hitting the back cover. i.e. the volume button isnt connected firmly.
To fix it I just got a silicon case with a tight grip to cover my phone. I know not all people want a case, but after having broke my N1 the week I pulled it out of its case I guess you can say I learned my leason.

Yeah, Ive had the creak there since I bought it. Its been a pretty hot summer here, could that have possibly warped the chrome or something?
Got the Tmobile gel case on it right now, sort of remedies it.
I used a strip of electrical tape right next to the rocker it worked great.
I know a lot of people have creaking on the bottom of their phones, but is anyone else experiencing a metallic ticking or clicking noise when pressing the back or menu button?
I know it sounds hyper sensitive, and I'm sure it is, but its driving me insane... to the point that I don't want to use the phone. It has definitely happened progressively... started as creak.
I'm past remorse period and am rooted... also my screen is perfect.
Just would like to know if anyone else has this issue?
Yeah, a quick search for "buttons" or "creaking" and you'll find you're not alone. I saw a gentleman that had sprayed some lube, giggity, and it resolved it for him.
I had creaking on the edge, between the silver bezel and the white plastic. I carefully applied tape to the white and silver, leaving only the slight space in between; and then dropped some Gorilla Glue (super glue) in there. My phone/case/frame creaks no more.
My back button is starting to creak and I might look into the lube, again, giggity, but it's just the nature of the beast. You got the good display, so consider it a win, no doubt.
I just took a case off my phone and noticed a hair line crack in the housing, between the head phone jack and the volume rocker. The crack extends from the back glass to the front bezel, perpendicular to direction of volume rocker. It looks like it was meant to be there, but I haven't noticed it before. I am wondering if anyone else got one of these and if it is normal (was meant to be there)? Picture attached. Thanks.
EDIT: Seems that every one has them in all of the corners apart from bottom right, they appear to be just seams. Now I can relax.

I'm thinking it's a seam. I have a faint line on the upper left corner as well, which is why I asked for a picture.
I have it in all corners apart from bottom right. I think they're just seams from the manufacturing process.

now that you've mentioned it, i have them too in all of the corners apart from bottom right. Not sure how I did not notice it before
Hmm, now that I looked a little harder I have it on two corners and maybe a 3rd. They appear in different degrees of visibility. I have to believe that these seams are probably not supposed to be visible. I guess whatever process they use to blend the seems is not working as well as they would have liked.
Added picture to OP.
It's just a seam, that's all. However they mold the soft rubber bezel had some large build tolerances I guess. You'll be fine.

Normally I don't experience issues with my phones that I've seen online. Especially the whole "gapgate" Note 4 problem! But today I noticed my home button making a loud click noise when pressed. It was also a bit hard to push down. So I took a regular paper towel and put some alcohol on it. Just enough to make it damp. I then wiped the home button and around it. Then I used a can of air and blew over and around it. No more click and it's smooth as ever! Just thought I post this in case anyone else came across this issue. *Try at your own risk*
I did the same on the 2nd day of release having my note 4.. Had some juice on my hand from my son and wiped over the fingerprint and it got some between the button.. Alcohol seems to be the best for this as it dissipates leaving no liquid behind..

My Note 4 recently started doing this. Thanks for the info. I will try it tonight.
Strange, my home button never did this, though I've noticed some home buttons appearing recessed and some elevated above the display of the phone.
My home button won't sink in though it still register touches and fingerprint scanner works fine.
Unfortunately wiping the home button didn't correct it. I'm having it replaced under warranty.
Mine did the same for the first 2 months. Then it went away

It's not supposed to make a very audible click. Mine started doing it months after it purchased and it stopped a week shortly after. Very weird.

So did they replace it?
Allow me~
So if you guys have seen me around, I am one of the guys who was on the forum about Note 4 bezels and replacing them. I replaced my Note 4 (black) with a gold bezel and power/volume buttons. Which definitely was easy as heck to do. Anyways, the point I'm going to mention is this:
The power button is supposed to be clicky, but not like those found on iPhone or Samsung S6/S6E. As they said prior, you can place alcohol into that area and it will help that problem with a sticky button. What I presume is some of the adhesive that keeps the screen down on the main board (NOT REFERRING TO THE LCD ADHESIVE TO THE GLASS) gets in the way and makes it sticky. The adhesive is some weird mix between some silicone or whatever. It feels almost like tar, in terms when heated its stretchy but pretty stiff when back to normal temps.
As for the dropping of the home button, that is caused by the mUSB port not being pushed up enough by the bezel. Basically, the mUSB port is not applied enough upward pressure by the bezel to keep it sitting flush. What is interesting is that this can also constitute to something where the home button is mushy and doesn't click. Not in the sense of "sticky" but as the point of just no tactile feedback, such as a click feeling or sound.
As for the "gapgate" issue, I just placed some silicone in between the cracks, between the glass and the aluminum bezel, and pushed it in. Then grabbing a cloth and removing the excess while smoothing the stuff in the cracks by going in a single direction. Let the stuff dry and its golden. Remember to tape off the earpiece, mic holes, and other stuff.
If anyone needs some pics on what I said above, let me know and I'll try getting those in.

anybody trying this alcohol treatment to the home button, I strongly suggest you turn off the phone and take off the battery while doing so. before turning it back on, also make sure it's totally dried off. you can use a hair drier to make sure....
does this happen after a while?
Thanks for this! Mine has always been that way. Painfully loud click. Like I broke something. Used an alcohol wipe (phone off) and I get a nice soft press now. Click is like my wife's Note 3 now. Much, much better.
I found the best solution... an app called " Swype Home". With a little swap from the home button to the screen acts like thehome button and goes
even more faster than clicking.. and it fixes the obsolescence of the button... works like a charm.
