Vodafone UK mms and data - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi, just found this and it worked a treat thought id share
To use your Android phone on Vodafone or any other networks you will need to set it up like below.
You need to create two APN’s one for connection to the internet and one for the MMS.
Go to settings>mobile networks> access point names and Click Menu then “New APN”
Enter the following to be able to use the internet on vodafone:
Name: Vodafone Default
APN: internet
APN type:default
The MCC and MNC will be filled in automatacly if you have your simcard inserted in the phone. Mine were set to 234 and 15.
Leave all other settings blank and select menu and SAVE.
You now need to create another APN just like above but for the MMS:
Click menu and ‘New Apn’ and enter these settings
Name: Vodafone MMS
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 212.183.137.012 (yes its a 0 in front of the 12)
MMS Port: 8799
APN type: mms
click menu and save.
IMPORTANT : YOU MUST restart your phone for settings to work

Bumped for any Vodafone users in the UK

What radios do you guys use? I get problems I'm calls of it cutting out for half a second regularly :-/

handset
se x10i generic firmware 2.1

Settings don't work
I have tried your settings and they don't work for me.
I had problems getting MMS to work on my previous version of Android (Bangsters 1.5), but managed to find some that worked eventually. Not sure what I did with them, but since I changed to MDJ Clean Sense I haven't been able to figure it out.
I use the radio 2.15.50.14 and have never had any problems with calls cutting out etc. Any issues could be down to the build you are using rather than the radio.

Android - HTC Dream/Magic - Fido APN/MMS Settings

Hello all,
I thought that it would be good to share this with the rest of the world.
I'm using the HTC Magic on fido, and for the longest time I had trouble finding working fido MMS APN settings. Most of what I could find via a google search referenced just setting up one APN, quoted various proxies, server addresses - let's just say a lot of contradicting information.
Finally - I did a quick search about the APN Type (the last field in the APN setup screen). I solved my MMS worries by setting up two APNs with different types.
So without further delay, here's the good stuff.
APN1 [this one will have the radio button beside it]
Name: fido internet
APN: internet.fido.ca
Username: fido
Password: fido
APN Type: default
(all other fields blank)
APN2 [this one will not have any radio button beside it]
Name: fido mms
APN: mms.fido.ca
MMSC: http://mms.fido.ca
MMS Proxy: 205.151.011.013
APN Type: mms
(all other fields blank)
Hope this helps!

PERFECT! I had the internet settings but not mms. other sites are giving incorrect mms settings for Fido, But U R DA MAN!
Data plan blocked?
Is it possible Fido applied the data plan shutdown to unlocked phone owners too? See article “Rogers Canada forces Android update that takes away root access” on boingboing.net.
I had good 3G bandwidth in the morning and no more connection in the afternoon. Still offline
Anyone else experiencing the same troubles?
They might have changed the APN credentials...
I recently got my sister's Rogers Dream ... NOT unlocked or anything...and i have the old sim from about 5 years ago....(don't know if that is the reason)
but these FIDO APN settings are not working for me!

Hey do you still have this problem? Because I do and I'd like to fix it. Do you think that Rogers ban extends to Fido customers as well (since they use the same network)?
This may help you to solve the problem.
Figured it out today thanks to all the other information here.
Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Acces Point Names
Create a new one for each:

APN: mms.fido.ca
MMSC: htp://mms.fido.ca
MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.13

Username: fido
Password: fido
MCC: 302
MCN: 370

So far it works!
These settings worked awesome for me. I have a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. I unlocked it to use on Fido's network. At first, my voice worked fine, but no data. These APN settings now have my data working. Thank you so much for posting this!
I'm using these settings on an unlocked Atrix and no luck at all. How long does it usually take for these settings to work?

[Q] Why doesn't 3G work on FroyoStone 3.2?

I downloaded FroyoStone 3.2, and it doesnt have 3G? Or is there a way to enable it. I want to be able to use internet everywhere like i did on WinMo. On WinMo all i had to do is turn the data connection on and it worked as 3G. Whenever i try to go on the andriod marketplace or just on the internet it comes up with an error saying. "Attention! A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." Any fix? Please and thank you.
Have you checked your APN setting?
It is entirely possible that you may have to set up your APN. Search the forum there are threads with all the details everywhere.

no 3G for me.. i have a sidekick plan, it worked fine with 3G
using froyo 2.2
once i updated to v3.2 froyostone
all i get is edge..
i tried alternatives.. adding apn settings
changing radios.
although i cant find a full hiptop internet settings write up online
all i could pull up is the apn address
im actually using the radio i had before.
between 2.2 and froyostone v3.2 theres a network settings change.
i might just go back to 2.2 and keep my 3G service working
im having the same problem any way to fix it. i cant get any data connection with it. but at least my calls work. on froyo 3.2. i have it installed using the sd card 16 gig. or is there a way i can get a perfect andriod for my hd2 where the sound in the voice calls work and my internet. i am super new at this and been trying all day BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR.
i am running 3.14 rom
nevermind i got it to work.
omg -thank you so much -i was on the brink of deleting this version of android -ty again -internet works perfectly now

Fido APN/MMS Settings - Android 2.2 - Samsung Galaxy S (Bell GT-I9000M)

Hello all,
It appears as though there has been a change to the way that the APN's for internet and mms work under Android 2.2. You no longer need two APN's. It can all be handled with the following:
I'm using my Android 2.2 Samsung Galaxy S (Bell Version) on Fido and found that the two APN setup no longer worked for sending or receiving MMS messages. I solved my MMS problem by setting up a single APN with the following settings.
APN [this one will have a radio button beside it when done]
Name: Fido
APN: internet.fido.ca
Proxy: leave as default showing "Not Set"
Port: leave as default showing "Not Set"
Username: fido
Password: fido
Server: leave as default showing "Not Set"
MMSC: h t t p : / / m m s . f i d o . c a
MMS Proxy: 205.151.011.013
MMS Port: leave as default showing "Not Set"
MCC: leave as default
MNC: leave as default
Authentication Type: leave as default showing "Not Set"
APN Type: internet + mms
Make sure not to enter the spaces shown in the MMSC field above. I only show it that way because I am not allowed to post URL's yet.
This worked perfectly for internet access and MMS after making these settings.
Hope this helps!
i always used 1 APN since 2.1
as long asd you select the type to be internet + mms
Second that. Been used under 2.1 forever as that was pulled from the fix for nexus one when mms stopped working for Fido and rogers. Nexus default apn is the one that's commonly used for iphone though.
Not working for me!
Hi!! I have no internet access (exept with wi-fi), I use the setting above.
We I upgrade to 2.2 I had to do it whit ODIN.
I9000GJL2 band version!!
Any idea?? AllGamer, the pro??
do you have data plan?

@demetan71
did you create the APN entry?
Solved!!
Since I had this phone I was with Bell, but I never cancel my Fido contract, but I keep it to minimum fee.
I call yesterday, I find that they block me to the internet 3G because I tried one time Thetering!!
They unblock me, and now it work's fine whit the settings above!!
I've been trying to use this APN on an Atrix for Fido with very little luck. What can I be doing wrong?
This Works for me -Galaxy Samsung S
I was having the same problem. I gave fido a call and the person I spoke with gave me the configuation to enter.
Name: call what u want
APN: wap.fido.ca
Proxy IP: 205.151.11.11
Server: h t t p : / / fido . mobi
user: fido
pswd: fido
I then turned on roaming as I read that is what finally made it work for others having problems connecting. it took a few minutes for everything to work, but it seems to be working fine now. As soon as I went to an internet page, I received an SMS telling me I tried to access a web page without having a data plan. I clicked on the link, bought a plan and I'm surfing the waves of the net.
I did go back to look at my configuration for the net and some things seemed to have changed:
Name: fido (same name as before -doesn't really matter)
APN: wap.fido.caapndroid
Proxy: 205.151.11.11
User: fido
Pswd: **** (I'm guess the "*" are for fido like before)
Server: h t t p : / / fido . mobi
APN type: *apndroid
I guess it said droid after certain configs because I am using a Galaxy Samsung S (European model).
The spaces in the links are there because I am not allowed to post URLs yet, so remove them when entering the config information.
Hope one of the above configs works for you.

Hd2 android wifi hotspot

I'm amazed that I'm a walking wifi spot I was wondering what instruments on this cell phone allows this to happen? Also on the software level too. Also is there anyway to get a front facing camera on this device yet? If not, any ideas I used to browse this forum on a daily basis when nand first came out but have ben up to other things. I know this device is great since it can switch to ashitload of other operating systems. I love hd2 I've had this phone for a year now and still loving it.

Getting a front faced camera would not be possible because it was never built into the phone to start with. It would be nice though!

I did what you recommend but still doesn't work. I have swap the phone fully with Task29 reinstall the android but still the same problem. Really i don't know what shall i do.
Anyway the protocoll WAP 2.0 i just didnt found.
I had the exact same problem, couldn't get a data connection on the O2 Pay & Go SIM, but here's how I fixed it.
1. Press the menu button > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Acces Point Names
2. Press the menu button > New APN
3. Enter the following settings:
Name - O2 Pay & Go
APN - payandgo.o2.co.uk
Proxy - 193.113.200.195
Port - 8080
Username - payandgo
Password - password
Server - (Leave this blank, it should say "<Not set>")
MMSC - ht tp://m msc.mms.o2.co.uk (Take out the spaces, the spam filter prevents me from posting urls)
MMS proxy - 193.113.200.195
MMS port - 8080
MCC - (This should by default be set to "234", if it's not, set it to "234")
MNC - (This should by default be set to "10", if it's not, set it to "10")
Authentication type - PAP
APN type - Internet, MMS
APN protocall - (This should by default be set to "IPv4", if it's not, set it to "IPv4")
4. Press the menu button > Save
5. When you reach the previous menu (Acces Point Names), find the APN you just set up (O2 Pay & Go), and select it.
6. Wait a bit, and your connection should start to work
I got this information from an O2 Customer Support email (PM me and I can forward it to you), and it worked on my device, an HD2 running Typhoon's CM7, with an O2 Pay & Go SIM.

Thanks but i have received on this week 5 email from the o2 support department.
I have had this settings. Anyway i have got the solution for my problem. The problem was so banal: i have had an GPS bar!?!? on my account wich was blocking the acces to the o2 internet service. An o2 guru took off this from my account by online. It was just one clicking him but i was just suffering a whole week with this problem. I was at least 4 different o2 shop nobody could recognize this problem...
Really i don't know how could happend this but now the internet acces working fine on my android OS.
Well, that's good that you got it fixed.
