This post is a poll for users who like to test different ROM's to find out which one will be the "winner" over their device. Also it is used as a quick guide to find out which of the "ECLAIR ROMs" are the highest rated of the releases for users (and devs) to pick from the HUGE list of ones available rather than flashing, testing, re-partitioning, then re-flashing, etc etc.
I am not at all trying to flame, bash, or put down anyone's ROM that is less developed than others. I myself as I believe others like myself are interested in finding out which of the great ROM's released are by popular vote more exciting to use than others.
I also understand that different users have different opinions, and I as well as many others I know personally prefer totally different ROM's to use on our devices. So on that note, let everyone know of the list which ROM you believe gives you the best experience on your G1 & Mytouch3G / Dream & Magic devices by popular vote.
If I have left off any other ROM's that may be GREAT but just not posted in the poll please feel free to express the name, who it's by, and why you love it!

Thanks for the correction, however most ROM users, and Dev's don't use the Dream/G1 discussion forum and i believe the intentions of this post would fall on deaf ears.
Ive found my leo to be more entertaining than my dreams, the 2.5 sense UI rom is a beast on it too.
Seems to be pretty varied so far.....

Yes it does, You can see where the most excitement is drawn from which is neat... The poll has multiple answers enabled which I input due to the fact that myself like probably others like more and enjoy more than only 1 ROM, So if you do like 2 out of the bunch or anything feel free to express it and vote for another

True indeed, this thread is not specifically dev related, but I find it to be very helpful and informative for those of us that are flashing these roms, gives the user an better idea of what to choose from when looking for a good eclair duplicate. And most users, like I, hardly ever visit the discussion board because they are so busy checking the dev forums for new releases and updates. Therefore I find this thread to be placed in a perfectly good position due to to its purpose. MODS please consider before moving.

I use [email protected] Eclair 2.1, with spanish kernel, this is the faster 2.1 ROM for Dream and Sapphire.

Nice Idea, this poll.
But, i think, there should be also a Poll for the Functions needed, not only which Eclair ROM...
So, for me the Killerfeatures are:
WLan/WiFi working
Bluetooth working
Exchange Active Sync working (including Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail)
Sound working (also with Navigation App like Sygic, nDrive, ...)
Not so urgent, but would be nice:
Google Sync working
Tethering WiFi/USB working
Browser with Flash Support working
Camera working (Pictures & Video)
Video working
as much as possible free system memory ;-)
Of course my respect for all developers, you do great work!
I'll try ~ all Imagereleases, but i stay at the moment @The Original Rogers (modification from kb7sqi). I think it's the only one with working complete ActiveSync/BT/WiFi/Sound.

I like your idea, it's good to always update ratings based upon how certain ROMs enhance faster or more frequent than others.
hey javolin i really think u should add jubeh's 2.1 AOSP ROM to the polls, its really something great, best eclair ROM i used to date.
the Intention ROM comes from a mature dev that doesnt act like a child. He also dosent beg for money
Ill be trying kingklick's rom next!
I don't like eclair roms anymore after I tried CSDIv1 lol....everything seems to be slow as a turtle xD

I would like to add different ROMs to the list, I don't think I can edit the poll once it's posted though.
pretty good turnout with the voting... I think these voting ratings will also help devs in a comptetive state as well... Granted there is the "sharing is caring" attitude, but I'm sure nothing feels greater then having a large fan base that supports your rom

I have to say it's pretty confusing and overwhelming when you arrive here. Couldn't answer this myself, there should be a poll thread like there are on Modaco to help newbies.
This again, why dont you start trying some to see what you like...they are all good
For cutting edge ROMs - look at Miri's or Dutty's HG ROMs
For super clean - look at CleanEx (new ROM but already looks like it could be a goodun)
This is all subjective to personal opinion and taste. Best advice is to read through some of the posts and try for yourself.

So indeed this is where a poll would be useful, look at all those different answers!
I think rather than a 'what is best' it would be much better to have a comparison page where all the chefs could update with the important information and a link to their forum page - so for example it would have a table with the chef name, driver version, manila version, rom version etc... and perhaps a few key points such as applications added/removed from stock ROM...
A first point of call so you can quickly see who has released a new ROM, and see its details
What this should NOT include is any star rating/number of downloads etc...
This is an easy question to answer, I think!
For any user unwilling to do a bit of research and learn about differences between ROM's, the best ROM is obviously the one they already have!

Thats like asking
"What is the best console" or even "What is the best programming language".
Simply put, it comes down to personal opinion, while one person might rate a rom good for its long battery life, another person rates the rom bad because it didnt come with his favorite video player installed (just examples, i know battery life is more related to radio, and you can install apps on all roms)
You could however ask people to write reviews, but theres already a site for that http://xdaroms.com/ and i gotta admit thats not very actively updated/reviewed.
Personally, im always very pleased with Artemis roms, if your looking for the ram or cpu trick, forget i mentioned it, but if your looking for speed and stability alongside the latest wm and manila, check out the thread (read peoples replys a bit/read changelog/look at screens to get an idea of the rom)
The first time it can be a little scary to flash your phone, but after a while you will get the hang of it, its really not that hard or dangerous, just read the thread about flashing.
As long as you read the (help & specific rom) threads, it'll be just fine
I agree... If like me, you need a ROM which allows for Chinese Input, you become more limited in your options... so it really depends on what you need....
I am a bit surprised to see a request like "searching a faster and better ROM".
You should ask different questions, eg. I need this and that in a ROM, which
ones come with it? Even better, do a search yourself!
Dozens of ROMs are available. All of them are fast, all of them are good.
Hundreds of different answers are possible.
If you feel that your device is slow with the ROM you are using, there could be other reasons:
- bad flash
- defective device
I just tell this because after having flashed something like 50 different ROMs over the past three months, not any single one of them made my HD2 slow.

I never changed roms on android before, but done it many times on windows mobile 6.xx.

Then do some reading and research in the Atrix forums. Your questions have been asked and answered a hundred times.
All depends what you're looking for (Blur based, CM7, CM9, MIUI, etc)
Start using that Noob guide for sure, there are definitely a lot of options out there, it just depends on your taste. Personally, I stick to either Morrisoft (CM7) or Joker's CM9 and tend to go back and forth as updates come out.
Scope them out, check out the original posts of each rom and their screenshots, always a quick way of telling if you like the way they look, options they offer, and so on.
More than enough threads on this subject. Not to mention this is purely subjective.
I suggest you try reading user experience posts for different Roms in the development section.

These are the most popular custom roms and has alot of updates esp cm10 but aokp more customizable

Only good answer in this thread so far. What one person thinks is the best is not the same as what you think is the best. I don't know if there are 10 different ROMs available, but you could ask 10 people the same thing and get 10 different answers, so the only option is to try everything and go from there.

Strongly disagree. These are the worst answers usually spit out by those who are enthusiasts, developers or lifeless fanboys. For the rest of us who dont always have the time to flash rom after rom testing and sorting out issues then resetting up each Rom while learning the differences and quirks we ask for opinions on what Roms are working for others. Yeah Yeah Yeah, in a perfect world it would be best if we could try each and every Rom then decide which one is best but the world is not perfect and peoples schedules vary which can make things difficult for many to do just that. Besides by the time youve gone through the process of installing and testing various roms some get updated and a new one pops up. Now What?
I know many of you think this question is annoying so if thats the case dont answer. Chances are most of those who come here asking the question know that ideally they should try a bunch of different Roms but for one reason or another cant. They are looking for a starting point, or a narrowed down group to test based off recommendations.
I also disagree with the 10 people 10 different answers thing. Im willing to bet the farm (Because I dont have one) That if 10 people try AOKP JB atleast 8 will like it. Because its damn near perfect.
Ive been around here for awhile now and have used this site as a tool to deal with quite a few different devices now and on every device I have been helped or saved time finding the perfect Rom in part due to threads just like this.
Thats the end of my rant and in no way do I mean any disrespect but the only thing wrong with threads like this is too many of you miss the opportunity to make these threads better by providing good solid user feedback.

Well if the OP used the search button maybe he would find countless threads and answers from "lifeless fanboys" , Kinda gets boring giving every new user a run down of each ROM. So here is a post in a thread by me, made hours before on the same day , in the same forum asking the same thing. May even help If the OP actually said what Tab was involved, My crystal ball is not what it used to be
AOKP build 4 , much more control over the ROM than say CM9/10. You choose what you want and how you want it. AOKP is more suited to the tab IMO as CyanogenMod has to cater for much more devices. Constant builds and updates. Id say AOKP is for advanced users
If you like to twiddle with your devices thats the ROM for you.If you dont , then go for CM10.
If your not that bothered go for AOSP Loads of ROMs to choose from , no way of saying the "best" as it dosent exist. Its a personal choice and to be honest they are all pretty much the samething, just some slighty more customisable than others.
If you want a "Stock" experience go for anything that "RomsWell" builds as its generally stable and all the bloat/crap has been removed.
Search the forums for your specific device and check out the official threads for each ROM. If you don't know what to do ASK in the threads and people will help you out no problems as we are all mostly friendly and helpful to each other.
First thing you should be thinking about is do you want "root" access ( full control over the ROM) ? Search for your device and make sure you understand what's to be done and you have to correct tools to do it. Read it again, you be surprised how many people mess it up and then make posts for help lol.
Once you are more confident with Android , try all the ROMs out , wont cost you a penny and you can see for yourself then but say good bye to your warranty as it will be void as soon as you mess with your tab. If you read up on things you wont have any problems at all.

By your logic, this thread is still pointless then. You can go to the development section, look at the threads, and find the most popular ROM and flash it then. While you may not like it, why should I waste my time typing a response when someone can find the most popular ROMs fairly easy by just going and looking at pageviews and number of responses for ROMs in the development section? If people want user feedback, go read different ROM threads.
Maybe people don't have time to flash everything, but how long does it take to figure out you don't like a ROM? Like 2-3 hrs at most, maybe a day or two? You could take a day or two, flash 5-6 ROMs and find out what you like best. Something new comes along, make a backup, test the new ROM, see how it compares. Big feature or change comes to a ROM you didn't like before, try it out again. Get some free time and looking for something to do, flash a ROM you haven't used before. While you may think it's inconceivable to test everything, you can sample a decent majority of the stuff out there quite easily.
Personally, I don't want AOKP, though I have never tried it, and I even moved away from CM10. I don't need 90% of the stuff that is added into them, so why would I use them? I'm guessing that most people don't even use half of the stuff available in the ROMs they flash, they just flash and use them more as a "me too" mentality when they could just find a minimal ROM that has only the features they need and use, and with AOSP, it isn't that hard to find something like that. The other reason people hate threads like this is that every new user seems to think that they deserve to have their own thread asking the same question.

Oh Yeah thats exactly what their thinking. Those selfish bastards How dare they ask a question. How dare they in essence take a current poll of the most popular Rom. How dare they disturb what would otherwise be a very neat and organized way to archive information on Android mods and roms. The OP isnt asking you anyways. Hes asking people who are willing to give a response worth posting. I guess ive become more tolerant of threads like this simply because to the newbie this place can be overwhelming. Also even the experienced can get a little overwhelmed when moving to a different device. Its only natural to ask questions and whether or not they seem like worthwhile questions to you doesnt matter. Leave it up to the mods to decide.
Besides just think about how many newbs didnt post this because there was already one on the first page. Lighten up. I learned alot from this site and all because someone before me was tolerant of my newb status.

By being tolerant of duplicate threads asking the same question over and over, you promote the same behavior in the future. If one ROM was popular yesterday, three days ago, last week, etc., do you really think the opinion on what is the best will change that much over the short amount of time? Doubtful. In that case, why is it so hard to just find the previous thread and read it? If you don't like the answer, bump it and ask for newer opinions. Maybe, just maybe, you can spend 20 minutes just reading through ROM threads in the development section and do the research yourself too, since users tend to put opinions in the thread of the ROM, and you'll also get a sense of recent issues.
I am very tolerant of anyone, not just new people, that tries to help themselves first by searching and reading first and posting second. I don't think it's too much to ask for someone to do their own research and form their own opinion on what is best for them. If you really want someone else to tell you what is the best, go buy an iPhone or iPad, otherwise, people need to stop being lazy and do the work on their own. Maybe if everyone didn't expect everything to be handed to them all the time and actually worked a little bit, the world would be a better place.
Lol....seems we might need a "what's the best "best Rom thread" thread to read" post....
I'm just saying, I've always wondered why people don't trend to just look at dev section and take note of which thread is most active, which ROM seems to have most posts on its thread lately, and use that as a starting point for "best rom". Since the threads with the most activity is most likely going to be the same users chiming in to say "Try XX ROM it's the best!"
Either way, no matter how many of these threads i see, it never gets old reading all the posts in these threads of people arguing back and forth about why the thread is or isn't necessary. quite entertaining sometimes how much people get their panties in a bunch over this lol.
What the OP and the person who claims they don't have time to flash roms is missing. Is that there is no best ROM for everyone. If you don't have the time and don't want to learn then why did you root? Stock is the best ROM for people who don't like to experiment.

Ok, I think it has been a good while now for roms to have been made and chosen which is the overall best rom for the T-Mobile version of this phone. I am curious to what rom most of you use so I can finally install a custom rom on my phone?

If you really, really, really don't want to make an informed decision on your own, just check the numbers of views and replies on the roms threads. And be aware that rom X might have an issue today which rom Y hasn't, while its the other way around after the next release.

That was a very un-informational reply lol. I was looking for what roms most people use. Not how to make my own decision on one
I like his response. Pretty reasonable. The one with the most views and posts are probably the most widely used. Although that doesn't mean that they are the best. Just most used for whatever reason.
OP, due to the nature of these type of Threads we do not allow them....there is no Best ROM, it is up to the Individual to figure what is best for them...the Best ROM's are located here....
