[Q] How to Partition SD Card - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Searched before, never did found a good tut for partitioning a SD Card with Success.
Like to partition a SD card to ext/swap/fat32 properly.
Also always wonder, can I install apps on to SD card fat32 partition or ext? rather than the Cell build in memory?(myTouch 3G 1.2)
Can some one point me to a good tutorial to do this?
Or a video tutorial?
Cheer!

Use the option in your recovery image. I think AmonRA's should work just fine.

The ROM your using will decide whether you can install apps to FAT or to EXT partitions. Honestly I would use the EXT partition out of the two because if loaded to FAT you'll lose your Alps when you unmount your SD card. Honestly you've got plenty of internel storage so you shouldn't need it.

i saw ext 3 , ext 4.. what i thi all abt.. i m quite confuse ahaha
so i should use ext 3 or 4?? what diff
Depends on the ROM that you're using. They're used to store your apps that you've downloaded (A2SD+/DATA2SD) and Ext3/4 are just speed variations, I think.

it for storing programs and data on instead of using the internal nand memory which can soon run out if you are using a eu hd2 with only 512
Does it mean that rom with A2SD+/DATA2SD I had to set my card with partition ?

uppppppppppppppppppp
yes, you should create on your sd card a fat partition, and an ext4 (or ext3, shouldnt matter)
then install your fresh nand build, and it will autodetect the ext partition and treat it as phone memory, leaving the fat partition to act as the 'sd card'.
so, when you instal an app, install uit to phone, not sd card, and it will actually end up on the ext partition, and the phone will treat it as if its in its internal rom.
When you browse with a filemanager, you will not see a seperate ext partition, because it is integrated into the system, but you will see an sd card listed, which is the fat partition.
The other plus side is when you install a different rom, when it boots any apps found on the ext partition will already be installed.
This all happens automatically, so long as you have an ext partition, and a rom that supports it. you do not need (and nor should you) go into teh app settings and choose move to sd card. if you do that it will move to teh fat partition, which defeats the object.

[Q] Original 2Gb SD card partition

Hi
I just sold my Wildfire, but before I sold it I formatted and deleted all the partitions that I had made and reset the phone to factory settings.
Now the guy can't take pictures because the application says "sd card not found".
Could it be that I didn't partition it right? It's a 2Gb original samsung sd card that came with the phone and I partitioned it like this:
~1.9 Gb Fat32
Should there be a swap partition also or an EXT to get the OTA 2.2 froyo to work with Apps2SD ?
Thanks!
No, you don't need any swap or ext3/4 partition in order to get ota, just plain fat partition. He should use a card reader to erase the partition and create again, maybe it will work.
my phone came with a sandisk sd card
Let's him reformat the partitions again, or you can use the tool from rom manager. Maybe you didn't format it right

tell him install ruu from shipped roms. and format the card just by plugging it into pc.
Hi,
Always worth trying the obvious first, is the sd card in the device properly. When I got my wildfire it wasn't and I assumed that I would have to buy an sd card to take pictures etc. I was surprised to find when I look to see what type of card I needed that there was one in there already!

Storage almost full

Frustrated with this, ive read that i needed to format the SD card as i have Phone7 so did that but its still saying the above error message.
Could someone tell me what needs to be done to sort this.
Could you clearly state your problem. Or if you think you've done so, be more clear then.
Are you formatting the SD card the right way? Using Panasonic SD Formatter 2.0. If you haven't, try that.
What exactly are you formatting it for? For dual-boot of WP7 & Android? Using an Ext3/4 partition for Android or just want your full storage back on your SD card?
I have formatted the SD card with the Panasonic software. All i want to run is a nand android but as soon as i install a few apps it tells me that the storage space is low. I have re-loaded the Abdroid nand rom after a format of the sd card and still have the same problem.
Can anyone help ?
You have a Leo512 HD2 yeah? (One without T-mobile branding on the top)
If that's the case, you need a ROM (most do) which supports either Apps2SD or Data2SD. You need to create a Ext3/4 partition for it to work.
Use the search bar and you'll find out how to partition your SD card if you don't already know.
Well im thick i searched partition n got no answers
Search for something like "how to make an ext3 partition using minitool". Can't get a link atm as I'm on my phone.

minitool partition wizard will be good for you i think

Need advice please

I am still having problems with memory storage.
I have DL Desire v4.1 and using MAGLDR to load then ROM.
I have formatted the SD card with the Ext3 partition using the mini tool, but i am still getting the low storage space. Looking at the SD card storage it does show 3gig out of a 4gig SD card but im guessing this is what it should be.
I have been looking for a good step by step guide but everyone i read seems to be different or it has parts missing.
Any help ?
Did you make sure you clicked apply on minitool?
i may be wrong, but if you added the ext partition after the rom was already installed, wouldn't only new apps be placed on the ext partition? (perhaps im wrong, dunno much about this)

[Q] Use the SD card for storage "Android SD"

Hi,
I wonder if someone can help me, I've got WP7.5 install as a NAND installation, with Android 4.0.4 as a SD installation. Both work brilliantly, although I do have some slight problems.
Android won't detect an SD card installed, so I can't use some apps, that require an SD card to be present.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this, surely I'm not the only person in this position.
Cheers
I'm guessing it's because your SD has been formatted specially by WP, and Android can't read this. Your FAT32 partition is probably too small for anything to be stored in it.
The Fat32 partition is 1.6Gb.
Is it worth making that bigger, or creating another FAT32 partition?
Cheers
Hmm, I'd guess that you wouldn't have any more than 200-300MB free on your SD as read by SD Android then. I don't know how much an SD Android build takes up but the data.img is at least 1GB of that. As for increasing the partiton/creating a new one, I don't actually think that's possible without losing your data is it?
Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I'm not too fussed about losing anything...
Here is what I have just tried without any success.
I have a 8Gb card partitioned like this.
1.*Gb
Primary, FAT32, (Android SD install)
2Gb
Primary, FAT32, (My hope would be that Android would see this as the SD card)
4Gb Other (WP 7 partition)
No luck unfortunately, any ideas?
Cheers
Are you sure you're using an 'unlockable' WP7.x ROM? If so, try formatting the storage card to normal and flash a Android build, see if it utilises the memory card like normal, if it does, then I would say that you're doing something wrong when setting it up.
Just double check each step of a tutorial (example: this one) twice and hopefully you'll only have to flash one more time.
Why do you have 2 fat 32 partitions ?...just use one fat 32 partition..in regular sd android....data image is used as internal memory and fat 32 part as sd card
I believe your second partition is not being recognised...make only one fat 32 partition you don't need two
