trying to root having issues - EVO 4G General

is there any other way to root other than unrevoked. i have tried this and it just wont root my evo. it recognises it just fine reboots just fine but it fails every time. it did this even when i rolled my evo back to 2.1 and tried it

If you're rooting 2.2 I would use regaw's method and then simple root instead of unrevoked. Did this last week on a friend's EVO and it worked perfect. You'll lose your 1.40 pri with this method though.

[Q] New Evo complaints...

So just decided to get an evo. My wife has had hers since release day. This one Has the 2.20 and the 3.30.651.2 Build. The quality of the screen is horrible compared to hers (the color and brightness). Before even being able to root it I couldnt use QIK because it reboots the phone. Downloaded the latest one and I can open the software and its after my camera kicks on that it reboots now....
So i rooted it and got the s-off. Now I can take nand backups but its says they are corrupt. Cant flash a rom because it will hang on the Evo boot screen or it will drop to a boot loader loop with the HTC with 4 exclamations....
Is anyone else seeing this or is this guy flat out a lemon?
I have looked around the forums a little and found people having a hard time rooting and s-off which was easy after skimming the forums for a while. Thanks ahead of time for any input in this.
The screen problems im not sure how to fix
there is a new ota to fix your camera issues, yours is most likely the new hardware/camera 004 model.
for rooting the only method that works is toast's, unrevoked wont. Unless im behind on info. Have you tried toast's method?
Unrevoked works fine. Took me about five minutes to root useing that method when I got my replacement phone.
As far as your phone issues, take it back to the store and show them the problems. Get a replacement.
Oracle, go to your bootloader. What is the first line? Is it Supersonic EVT2-3 S-off? If so, I had the same problem. You have bad blocks. My recommendation is the that you flash sprintlovers ROM. It cones as a pc36img.zip, and you flash it through bootloader. I tried every method of rooting and none of them would let me flash through recovery.... I always either got errors while flashing or, even if it seemed to flash fine, it would never boot. Also, Sprintlovers will get your pri corrected. If this works for you, give me a shout, and I have an idea we can try.

Unable to Root New EVO 4g

i just got a new sprint evo 4g a few days agot o replace my PRE and im trying to root it. i never had htcsync installed. i installed the HBOOT drivers and they are reconized by dev manager. I run Unrevoked 3 and it reboots the phone and gets stuck at "waiting for root" the phone has booted up completely but nothing has changed. I tried rebooting my pc and the phone and trying again but it does the same thing. if i unplug usb and reattach i get the error failed to root, this happens sometimes. i have debugging on and charge only enabled. Am i missing something?
Unrevoked3 currently does not root the newer EVOs. Since you said you got it a few days ago, I assume you are on HBOOT 2.02 or 2.10. You need to use another method besides unrevoked3 to root or wait until the unrevoked team puts out an updated package to root the new EVOs. You can find root methods in the Development Section.
[ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ (updated for 2.02)(12/15/10)
or
[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF -Yea, Yes Im On Top Edition - Upd. 12.19.10
Good luck
Hey Maz,
I'm in the same boat. It's all to do with the new update that the Evo's received. I didn't know that taking the update (I really missed Swype from my Epic, lol) would kill our ability to root. We just have to hang back until unrEVOked, or another dev, comes up with a new one-click root that will accommodate our baseband/firmware/etc. /sadface... That'll teach me to leap before reading..
thanks for the replies guys. does simpleroot support my version? i tried that a few minutes ago but im getting error that the versions are wrong or something in hboot
The second link is one that I used. It says it should even work with 2.10 Hboot. As long as you follow the directions exactly you should be good to go.
since i attempted the root my evo seems to be responding slowly now. i formatted the sd card as one forum suggested. not sure it that had to do with it needing to sync up everything or something but i used task killer to kill the apps but its still running slow

Rooted EVO...maybe this can work for you!

Just wanted to let people know how I rooted my EVO in case it can help others. Unrevoked 3.22 would not root my phone after I did an Ota update, and I was not confident enough in myself to not brick my phone using other methods. I have almost no computer skills, and this sequence worked for me. My specs looked the following.
Android Version 2.2
Baseband Version 2.15.00
Kernal Version 2.6.32.15-ge2f608
Build number 3.29.651.5
Software number 3.29.651.5
PRI version 1.77_003
Hardware version 0002
HBoot 0.97
Radio 2.15.00
I first put the app ROM Manager on my phone from the Market. I then put the app z4root on on my phone. z4root can provide a temporary root on the EVO. The I used ROM Manager to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I then used ROM Manager to Backup Current ROM. Next I put unrevoked forever on my SD card and flashed unrevoked forever. Unrevoked forever turned the S-off. I then rebooted and ran z4root to permanently root. My phone is now rooted and I have not had any problems.
cool
will try on my friends new evo
I followed all these steps and although the temp root works, confirmed by running Cachecleaner, when I try to boot into recovery to flash Unrevoked Forever I just get the phone with the red exclamation point instead of the actual recovery menu. I really wanted this to work because I do have the software fully up to date.

[Q] EVO root fails after multiple tries!

I have had my EVO for roughly two weeks and I would like to root it. I tried the Simple Root method and it failed. After multiple tries it always said "Main Version is Older. Update Failed". I watched the step by step video and did EVERYTHING I am suppose to. And this is before it even really did anything. So I took the advice of a few forums and formatted my SD card and then even did a factory reset. The Simple Root still failed on the same spot. Then I tried to use the Unrevoked method. It failed right at the start too and said "Failed To Push Recovery. Terminated". What the heck is going on?! What can I do to root my phone?? Can someone please help me out here??
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.11.19
Software Number: 3.70.651.1
your phone is newer .. and you might be using an old method, which will not work on your newer phone.
what method did you try?
here is one that is good for newer evos.

Use unrevoked3 but u have to install the correct drivers in ur computer and delete HTC sync. I've rooted two evo a hero an Eris a g1 and a g2 with unrevoked. If u follow all the steps it will work
Ok so I uninstalled HTC Sync (which I had installed because Simple Root told me to) and then I tried using Unrevoked. It worked beautifully! It was done so quickly I had to look and make sure it actually worked. Thanks for your help!
Anytime. Enjoy ur better faster evo
I also have a pc36img.zip with recovery on it, but if you update your phones htc software you lose it. if anyones interested.. i just put it on my phone, went into recovery after the update and installed kings ultra unleashed.. rooted my phone and everything. was easy peasy.
