Phone says update available but PC companion says its up to date - XPERIA X10 General

Was greeted this morning by a notification saying update available but when I plugged it to my PC, PC companion says its up to date.
Its a vodafone X10 rooted with R2BA023

Update to 026 maybe.

Or update for an app via market?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

the point i think he is getting at is how does he do the update?
try OTA maybe?

For all the update notification which have been posted on this forum, me for once feel really jealous not getting a notification ever to the extends that I think I should go back to older firmwares to get something. + I hate this Generic Global firm which I bet is not related to anywhere? Is that the version they give aliens?

PC companion checks for phone updates about 2X per week or maybe every two days... It's better to use SEUS as it downloads updates as they become available.
The update your phone is asking for is probably just 026 btw.

Doesn't anyone actually understand what he is asking?
He wants to know why the update is available on his phone but not on pc companion.
Have you tried Sony Erisson Update Service?

Did you enable automatic updates? ;-)

You have to use SEUS to download the firmware, not PC Companion.
Your phone does tell you to go to Sony Ericsson's website and read how to update it

YES!!!
One thing that I just noticed. It was a while back that SEUS started to instructing for updates to just turn off your device for 30 seconds, just noticed that PC companion says that 5 s without battery removal?

remember depending on vendor the firmware may not come via seus dome are ota only

Myne does the same!! Well annoying!
Says a new update is available, and to connect my phone to PC Companion.
When I connect the phone it says the phone is up to date!
I try to do it OTA and it just says "You must use a computer to update your phone"
Checked SEUS and it says the latest update was released 24/06/10, I've already got that!

SE is playing the trick. Wondering if the "before the end of september" means exactlly at 11:59 PM on Sept. 30th./

you better use SEUS, seems to be the most accurrate one

Yes. If you install, you won't have root, but it can be re-rooted in future if so desired.
How do we root with 2.1 t-mobile installed?

Does anyone knows there's no RTSP streaming anymore? At least not over 3G, over WIFI I dont have any problems streaming videos over RTSP.

How do you 'check now' ? I popped my T-Mo SIM into the G2 (I have a Desire now..) and hoped the upgrade prompt would just appear, but nothing.. I've left it switched on for 15 mins so far.
Edit: I've not booted this phone since getting the Desire, so I've not tried to force the stage one 2.1 update into it - should that matter?

If you have got the pre 2.1 update that is available OTA from TMobile and HTC then you DO have Software Updates section in Settings, About Phone, and a button there to Check Now.
That's what I did (having installed the OTA pre update a couple of weeks ago) and that's how I got the update.
So - I think your info is out of date or ..... "Don't write wrong informations".
You need the OTA pre 2.1 update to get the "Check Now" option in Settings About Phone Software Updates.
If you have a tmobile or htc unbranded phone, then a lot of people have prompted the "pre" update by setting their date forward (I did a month, some have done 2 months others have done years) - I think the key is that the phone checks once every 2 weeks for updates, so moving the date by more than 2 weeks make it check now. Once the pre update is there - you have the same feature from the Settings, About Phone, Software Update menu.
HTH
Note: The updates are linked to the ROM "branding" of the phone, not the network operator of the SIM - so, if you have an orange branded phone, unlocked running with a tmobile sim, then you aren't offered the updates as Orange haven't released them yet.
well I must have had an odd ball G2 Touch from T mobile as the check for up dates was on the phone when it arrived from Mr T in May 2010 I checked every week for the lastest update I had the OTA last month the phone was updated to 2.1 last night. all working ok it seems happy with the phone dose what it say's on the box.
That was about when the 1st update came out - so they must have pre updated the phone before shipping, for once, that's a reasonable service from TMob.
Got sick of waiting for an auto update, so just goldcarded it to a generic RUU and it all worked perfectly - now on 2.1 and happy
Ta.

Apply update
You need a PC with Zune software installed - then just connect your phone to it with your micro USB cable. In the Zune software, select phone, then update.
Really? Have to go through that?
Thank you

That is correct..Windows Mobile (Phone) 7 cannot do total over-the-air updates yet

[Q] R800x software update?

My Verizon Sony Xperia Play (R800x) mentions about twice a day how it wants to check for an update, and that it can only update over 3G, so it will now turn off Wifi, etc. Now, when it finally does check, it will either:
- Check forever, or
- Say that no update is available
The update history also shows that there has never been a software update done on the phone, and the Android version is still 2.3.2. What gives?
I have a verizon version. I'm getting the same notification, but no update available. I have tried to use sony update service and over the 3G still get no update available.
happened to me twice, turned off wifi went in and manually checked says no update and if u look at info says failed. but now i dont get the popup anymore..
Same here, I had assumed it was an update for vcast or one of the many apps that we can download games from updating the games that are available

Surprised and in some way disgusted

Ok I have been waiting patiently for an upgrade to the OS to my Arc
I am still running 2.3.4 etc etc
Everywhere I look on SONY they say there is an update BUT when I try and update it says I have the latest.
I finally bit the bullet and contacted SONY themselves.
I received a reply sharing my concern and asking what network I was on.
I replied I am on Virgin in UK.
The response
"I can confirm that the update is network dependant. As your handset is locked to the network Virgin Mobile, I would suggest contacting them direct as to if/when they are releasing the update for your handset.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused."
What a load of bollocks.
I mean what is a android phone but a cut down computer running a cut down linux etc etc
Why should the network operator control what can be updated?
If this was a normal computer I would simply go online and down load the software and install it, or maybe go to a shop and buy it, it does not matter how I just do it
The days that a network operator control what a user can update should be long gone in this opensource etc age
I am very VERY pissed off about this
Is there no where where I can simply go and down load the os for ICS and install it without having to go through the rigmoral and jump through hoops that I have read through here.
I simple want to download a file(s) onto my phone or computer and simple say update......................
You can use Flashtool and flash latest firmware.

It more or less is, and if the flashtool isn't working for you then I can only assume you're doing something wrong.

You can make the update yourself, by flashing a newer firmware on your phone, just make sure to not wipe your data.
The operators, who release branded firmwares, might not give out updates, as they do not wish to people to use generic firmwares, but ones with their branding. And probably too lazy to work on that.

Anyone else think Samsung Kies is a little retarded sometimes?

I have to unplug and replug sometimes to get my tablet to pick up... it might take a few times, it might be instant. I have this issue on both my laptop and desktop... and with both my Note 10 and my Tab2 7.0... would like to know if there is a 'fix', but just seems like it's so finnicky.
Doesn't seem to let me to look at the contents of the tab without Kies being loaded either.
Everyone has thought this since forever.
Kies blows.
I just find Kies looking a lot like a knock off of iTunes...

Kies should be renamed Krap since that would be a more appropriate name. I try and avoid it if at all possible.
Totally unreliable
As i understand removal of Kies and OTa updates is part of XDA Developers membership terms .

Kies update itself more often than you had hot dinners. Every time I start it it has to update and not many updates for connected devices. I use S2, S3 & Note 10.1:laugh:
Are you guys using the latest version?
It has a ton of new features including a "lite" mode that's not as resource intensive. For N8000 users they also completley re-wrote Kies Air so that you can now view your call logs from your device on your PC as well send and receive text messages from your PC using your device's MMS feature.
The U.S. site usually has different versions of Kies. If your isn't the latest you can download it from the Samsung Korea site using the link below then clicking on the button outlined in the red box.
http://www.samsung.com/sec/support/pcApplication/KIES
Latest version of Kies has worked really good for me and I'm using it with 6 different devices
2 -Note10.1s
3 Galaxy S3s
1- GTab2 7"

Yeah they've posted quite a few updates since I've started using it. I will check to see if there is a new one... but I dunno... I'm skeptical lol. I'm in the U.S., but my version is in Japanese, so I don't know if that matters...
Going to try the upgraded version. The old one i have not open for more then 2 times.haha
I hate kies anyway , i use mobilego app and its awsome and i can plug any android device

Poor Kies always gets a bad wrap but it's got some pretty cool features. Have any of you tried Kies Air? You can basically access and control all the content on your device via a browser. I use it to listen to music from my device over my PC's speakers.
For N8000 users, this was introduced in the latest version and it's awesome. A mini-Kies app sits in the system tray and when you turn Kies Air on via your device it automatically connects. If your device receives a call or MMS it appears on your PC. You can also use your PC to send MMS messages via your device. Quite handy.
It's utter rubbish.
And the way Samsung implemented their MTP service on the Note also sucks.
I'm constantly having to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to get the PC to see it as a device.
And Kies rarely connects reliably.

I think that's been there since 4.0.4 - at least it was on my 8013 before I did the German 4.1.1 update...
It is pretty cool... which leads to the obvious question: if Samsung can make something as cool as Kies Air - why is Kies Desktop so sucky?
Never use KIES... I can transfer songs, movies and other things to and from the pc using the note like a portable drive... I have CWM to backup my install.
The only thing I've ever used KIES for is the USB drivers and I can get those now anyway....
Firmware upgrade failed. Do you want to recover?
