Is there a way on the SGS to show my number to people in my contacts list, and not to other pople.
On my last phone, a htc, I could chose:
Sent caller id, none, everyone, only contactlist. On the SGS I can only chose between none and everyone.
Is there a app that does this? Or is there a app what i can put on the home page that can easy toggle caller id on and off. Marketsearch on callerid don't give any usefull tools.

I found the app Prefixer useful - you can create custom rules with custom prefixes as required.
Nope. Looked at it, but isn't a solution. Then i have to make a rule for every contact in my contactlist.
Can't believe there is no app for this.

I just wasted an hour trying out various call log apps on the my phone and they all seem to suck.
There's not an app that actually bunches up your call log by contact name/phone number? I know the default dialer on my 2.1 stock based sense rom has basically that but it's a bit buggy when trying to delete the call history of a single number...
So I'm just hoping I overlooked a possible solution to my issue.
Thanks

TimeCatcher
The setting you are looking for is in menu>more>catch calls. Set by default. You then have to "catch calls" and set if you want all calls or just "clients"

Hi There!
I was wondering if there were any mods to make the dialer/keypad better?
I hate the one that is stock in eclair because there is a delete where there should be a 0. Also it drives me nuts that when you start typing a number and the contact comes up automatically, you can't click once for it to dial, you need to select it then hit dial!
Much appreciated.
I feel stupid, was searching market for dialler not dialer. Can someone recommend one, there are millions!
I would like to know this too...
Coming from an iPhone its a pain to have to select contact then press call on android. (My only android gripe tho!)

You can swipe left on the contact name to dial the contact, or swipe from right to left to send a sms message.

windows mobile had a better dialer! it used call history along with contact list to find matching contacts....really miss that. Another infuriating thing about android is that it chooses home number as default instead of mobile number. besides, i cant tap on the matched contact to bring up options to dial the required number....plain sucks!
every firmware flash, you need to sit and set default numbers all over again...frustrating! but apart from this, android just rocks \m/
I like dialer one from the market.

Didn't work for me, any other ideas?
Settings, call settings, additional settings, my phone number.
Make sure that number matches exactly your entry in your phone book. If you don't have an entry for yourself then it won't work. You can set that number to what you like, and it will show whoevers pic matches that number.

That worked out perfect, thank you.
When I first got my Epic, on an incoming phone call, there would be a voice announcement of either someone on my contact list or a phone number if not on my contact list. I don't remember if this came this way or if somehow a friend of mine set it up this way. Anyway, after I installed the leaked dk28 or sometime after, the phone now does not do voice announcement-is just rings. How can I get back the voice announcement?
Thanks in advance
Go into settings, accessibility and then check talk-back

Thanks for the reply. That program was not installed so I installed it. But now the Epic talks about everything. hahhahah. I just want the Epic to announce phone calls. Thank you again.
I know that its in the stock Tom by default. You could try Vlingo too. I know that you can configure it to read just calls, text, emails, or all of them. It doesn't announce EVERYTHING like talkback does

Go into settings...text to speech....and then speak incoming caller ID.

I tried this too but could not find the above and I really spent a lot of time looking at all the settings but to no avail. Maybe they left it out in Froyo 2.2 that I installed??

Perfect! That's the application I needed. I must have somehow put it on before and erased it??. Thank you very much!
Hi
I use the T9 name search in the Dialer a lot but I have still not figured out how to include a blank space in the name search. For instance i have 3 people with the same first name but a different last name may be like this:
John Taylor
John Smith
John Paul
If I input John in the Dialer it shows all three names but when I try to further refine it using the last name the search results disappear. Which key to use to include a space in the search our may be how to configure it to search it both the first and last names.
HTC diaers and Dialer one from the market had this enabled by default.
How to get this functionally in the stock Samsung Dialer
Thanks in advance.

My stock dialer searches the last name just fine. Make sure you didn't put the full name of your contacts in the first name field, while leaving the last name blank.

Thanks for the reply. My Dialer also searches the last name fine. I just want to get it to search both the first and the last name together.

Bump, want to know the trick to do the dialer using first and last name as well...
Use an asterisk for space. So "John T" would become "5646*8".
From what I can tell, asterisk acts as a limited wildcard for some non-alphanumeric characters.

I have the same question as shamps, and * does not work for me. Nor does #, 0, 1, or just skipping the space and typing the first letter of the last name. I have a Verizon S4.
this must a failure of samsung

This is a serious problem. I surprise how the samsung phone testers and developers missed this? This is not possible to search a contact when there is a blank space in the name. We can only do this with a third party dialer.
I used to use a wonderful t9 dialer called "youlu" dialer which used to not only dial but also store the changed contacts since 5 years. But recently that company closed and it came in the hand of weibo dialer. It has many bugs in it.
I am not satisfied of the rest of t9 dialers available in market.
It's also annoying that the T9 dialer doesn't compare what you've typed against the Company name field in the Contacts. If I want to dial a contact by company name, my only option is to do a search on Contacts to find the right contact.
I switched from HTC one to Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Extremely annoyed with the dialer. This is a SMARTPHONE, isn't it? Other brands are better. Even low priced Chinese ones have better dialers.
The functionality I had on the HTC and would like to have in Samsung phones:
- T9 dialer allows you to search the full names of the contacts, even the organization name
- it remembers the most frequently dialed contact and shows it first on the list
Will someone at Samsung please wake up and fix it? I would not like to install a third party app for this. I would also like to continue to use this phone.
