Not sure if this is a defect or not:
When the notification light is on in a dark room, there is light leaking through the speaker grill and headphone jack.
Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't have that leakage, but some people have noted some when they replace their digitizers.
I can see mine through the headphone jack. My screen has never been replaced.

Ah yes... I do indeed see the light through the jack (I really had to look for it). Not through the screen, though.

The track pad had a very dim red light in it when you wake the phone youll see it, its nothing like a notification in the center right side... Just questioning what it is and if we can get to it :/
once you see it youll always see it
I had no idea there was a light in there...ive noticed the red tint to it in some lights but assumed that it was something to do with the touch sensors

Yea the corner by genius button is just like yours.
I havent noticed a light on the trackpad tho. I even looked around for an app or something to activate it. No luck tho....
its not a light... its a dark red lens that covers the optical trackball... there is no (visible) light what so ever in there... you just held the phone at a odd angle in the right light...
go look at any other optical TB if you dont believe me...they all have a dark red hue (regardless of the battery status on the phone)
unplug phone from charger, pull battery and look closely, it'll still be red, and without power nothing could possibly be "lighting up"

i wasnt saying it was like a led its just a dim light thats behind it which looks red because of the cover on the trackpad... but seeing that made me question if there was a notification light down there like on the nexus one's trackball for instance
There is definitely a light on mine. I see it every time I wake the screen.

Noticed the dim red light too

Mine has it too when I wake the phone up

i though it may just be light from the menu button peeping through but itll do it when the keys arnt lite up :/ hopefully its an led and we can get it brighter for notifications cus that'd be sick (thats one thing i would of liked how the g2 has it going around the pad)
Afaik the only light down there is infrared... if you can see it you got some sick ass eyes, or the lens on the trackpad is somehow reflecting the light or something... but like I said turn the phone off and pull the batt and I still see a faint red hue in the trackpad...

There is definitely a light in there that illuminates for a brief moment towards the left hand side of the button when you wake up the phone with the track pad. It is no reflection of the infrared, it's a light. Do it in a completely dark room and it will be obvious.
I don't have this at all. If it's a light, it would certainly be more obvious, no? How could a light be so dim?
I noticed this last night when I was cleaning my phone. It is definitely a dim red light.

Yeah definitely seeing it now too once it has been pointed out. It's more in the left center of my track pad.
I think it's just the trackpad sensor light, similar to the laser light under your optical mouse.
I don't see it doing anything but registering where your finger moves.

I know about the light leakage under the buttons, at the edge of the screen. However, from what I've read, there seems to be a mix of opinions as to whether light leaking elsewhere is normal or not.
People post saying they've received a replacement with 'no light leakage', but I havent seen anyone specify 'no light leakage onto the screen' or 'no light leakage at the ports'.
Here are some pics from a new 003 Evo that was shipped out to me on 11/04.
Is this normal or not? Thanks.
Edit, not the leakage I was thinking. This is normal I think.

This is normal. The leakage usually happens where the screen meets the body frame.
HTC EVO
I always thought the light coming from the charging port was on purpose so you could see to plug it in in the dark. Lol oops!
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G.
Mine looks like that.
yeah that happened on my first evo, your screen might be lifting alittle. But the leakage you are showing is normal
I can see light coming onto the screen.
I can see the same light exiting the ports.
Wouldn't it be ok to assume that dust could easily get under the screen through the ports?
Despite what I'm reading here, I've also heard that some Evos do not have this problem.
My phone is brand new and I'm wondering if I should try to exchange it for another.

Don't return your phone, that's normal. Its is an inherent property of glass. No way around it.
Why try to fox something that isn't broken? If you go get an exchange, then you might get one with real light leakage. What you are observing now is just how the screen is backlit.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Might looked like that too. The Otterbox covers it up well so I have no issues.
Sent from my EVO (CM6) using XDA App
That is normal, have not seen one Evo that is not like that.
What is this for? I can't even figure out why it comes on exactly. It's not coming on as a notification light, not when docked with zune, seems like it only comes on sometimes when I plug in. It's around one of the sensors, and it's just bugging me that I can't figure out what it's for.
When you plug in what?
My charger, but I can't be certain. I know I've seen it light up, a red circle around the round sensor, but it's rare and random. No big deal, just curious ya' know?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Around what sensor
I haven't see any lights in my focus. Can you take a picture?
I think you are talking about the proximity sensor
yeah I believe it's the proximity sensor. It's whatever one is closest to the speaker. I can try to take a picture, I just don't know exactly what triggers it so it'll be kinda hard. It's a ring around the sensor, lights up red. I was really hoping it was a notification light, but alas, MS did not give us one.

Ha ha...too funny. We have all been lobbying for years to have LED's taken off of phones as battery drains and sure enough once somebody does, the complaints come in "Where is my red LED?"
I suppose that the only option is to make the phones with the LED's and then have a setting to turn LED notifications off. Those never seem to really work though.

Hi at all
Did someone notice display light shining through right under the earpiece? There seems to be a thin little line as if some black paint was missing and so when the display is lit (especially with white/bright images) and in darker rooms it is noticeable. It's not a big issue but I wondered if someone else has it too?

not on my device do get a little light through the sides tho
I dont have any issues with sound but my speaker grill looks to be covered with something underneath the grill on the left while the right of the grill is clear. Check out the pic and post pics of yours and how it looks.
Here are more pics.
You can see the left has something underneath and the right doesn't.
I noticed this when I first got the phone on Monday. So I'm confirming that my phone looks the same as yours in that regard.
I noticed it on mine yesterday.
I assumed it was dust build up. I haven't looked at any teardowns yet, but I'm sure it's one of the sensors or the speaker being really close to the grill.
Try and blow into the earpiece to remove dust. It might just be the way it's designed. I hope.
It's on mine as well, I wonder why nobody is talking about this
Seems like the normal design. Mine is same as yours
I also noticed this. Mine looks the same.

Because there's nothing to talk about? It's not an issue.
I believe there is some sort of sensor in there. In some videos of the phone, you can see a faint blinking red light coming from that very spot
One of the sensors is the proximity sensor in the grill
Then why isn't this eyesore mentioned anywhere. I thought my pockets were full of dust when i first removed my phone from it. It looks dirty in daylight. You cant tell me you didnt notice it

I have no idea what you are referring to, there is no led in there and no review shows it or even focuses on the micro earpiece because they wouldnt be getting free phones in the future.

The camera is the proximity sensor. Also, the left side of the grill is covered by some sort of felt like material so it is probably a mic or something.

I'll correct myself, there is some kind of proximity sensor in between the left side of the camera and the grill. If you go to the lock screen and just cover the camera, nothing happens, if I move a paper up a little bit in between the camera and grill, it activates "pocket mode"
Same, its like plastic would be stretched over a speaker to help with bass impedance. Think of it as a speaker box in ones trunk. That covering side is where the subwoofers go, and the noncovered side is the air port
Well I am glad you guys are seeing the same thing and that it's not an issue. It just looks awkward and tend to hold a ton of dust.

Why are you getting bent out of shape over nothing?
Because if they are hiding it it must be something stupid. It's so noticable that every review should have mentioned it
The device works exactly how everyone reviewed it as, if performance isn't impacted then I don't see a problem. It's also not blatantly visible. I'd rather take this over having a notch like the pixel.
this thread makes me so happy to know that I am not crazy. now I know im not seeing things lol
