my gf's neotouch has the last official rom 3.00c with windows mobile 6.5
she wants to read email, but everytime she sign in hotmail the e-mail app open internet explorer to let her sign in...
So it is not a real email client...
how can she have a real email client on her phone?
thanks
i noticed this too.
so there is no way?!
Try this:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/911354-exchange-activesync-hotmail-settings-apparently-working/
Here you can set your hotmail as a exange server. You have more advanced settigs than POP and IMAP, better support for settings download intervals and best of all:
Push email service free! (something like blackberry etc. it does drain your battery quickly so don't let it check for mail all day/night)
You have to make these settings in the active sync menu on the neotouch. If this all doesn't work i suggest she takes a gmail account ( I never had any problems an you can import your hotmail into gmail, but try the above site first)
Good Luck!
hotmail
actually I have the possibility of the motmail client on mobile without using the browser.
Did you already use a MS account (hotmail, live, etc..) on the phone? for example you use an account for the wm marketplace?
I had that result when I tried putting 2 msn clients.

1. That's a different problem......
2. The method I descriped doesn't use the mobile browser. It also uses the build in, native, wm mailing program
thanks a lot but I didn't understand well hot to set up the mail...
I have to go to active sync icon on wm
set the field like in the link you've posted and then?
How I can set that I want to check the email manually? and not automatically?
because I don't need push notification all time, because my gf doesn't have a flat connection to the web, she just left her phone on wifi connection when she is at home

Found this incredible realtime PUSH email solution for WM2003 and WM2005 devices. Works like vgsmail (IMAP IDLE Client being developed) but MUCH more stable, reliable, and faster (it's been around a while and they have big company partners)! It consists of a small syncing program that supports true push and links with the built in Messaging app, you just need to keep it minimized but running on your Pocket PC in the background (doesn't seem to slow down the device). Upon installation, the software also creates an account in the Messaging application where your mail is kept.
You just download the sync application, they give you 500mb of server space and a cool web mail interface (looks like Outlook) that also stores and syncs calender, contacts, and tasks. You can just use it for mail and continue using ActiveSync with Outlook for everything else, that's what I do. They also gives you a free utility to sync the email on your account with Outlook on your desktop so you stay up to date!
It's called office2go and it's from space2go:
https://shop.space2go.com/faces/shop/index.jsp
I tried it on our WM5 WiFi device and it was rock solid! I signed up for a free 30 trial of office2go and downloaded the PUSH Email client. I just forward my ISP's POP3 mail to this account and within a few seconds, it shows up on my PPC in the Messaging app. It runs reliably, no crashes or lock ups yet. Outgoing mail is sent immediately, no need to hit SEND/RECEIVE anymore! Also deletes from server immediately and keeps sent mail in sync. The sync application has great downloading and scheduling options as well.
They deliver TRUE PUSH mail today, and for what you get, the easy setup, and reliability, I think it could be worth it.
Give it a try!
What is your daily GPRS traffic?
Full Body & Attachments
Many thanks for the info. How does it handle fully body of the emails and what about attachements? Thanks
handles full body, header, or user defined size. Handles attachments - no problem. Doesn't choke on large emails. Very reliable, I would give it a try. Free for 30 days. Works great!
More info on it here:

Does look very good - but how much traffic is it using
I created an account but when I want to download the sync app it's asking me to pay. I thought it was 30 days free trial. When I registered for an account I chose the one with the included license.
I'm confused. Do I have to pay for the sync app or not?
Don't forget that the same service is offered by 4smartphone, hosted exchange so genuine WM5 push email plus it apparently has a WM2003 push component too (haven't tried that one out though). Decent free trial and some advanced options in there too if you opt for one of the premium packages
Ok so I thought I would give it a whirl. Signed up for the trial. The web service is nice. However, I downloaded the Sync software onto my computer and installed it. Tried to sync my contacts and it kept giving me login errors. I confirmed that I was entering in the correct username and passoword but still no go.
Also, why does it not sync mail? Does the program they offer not work as a mail redirector?

Where did you download the Sync app from? When I tried it asked me to pay €39. Isn't the app part of the free trial?
After you are logged in to your account, click on options and then downloads. The program I tried is the Space2go SyncWare. But like I said, it was never able to connect to their server and it doesn't give the option to sync mail.
Guys, trust me it works and it works well. Mail is pushed and everything else syncs wirelessly on a schedule. See this link on treocentral:
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=105531
The above link has further set up instructions, manuals for the client and a download link for the Client2go. SyncWare links Outlook to their servers and SyncML is to sync wirelessly to other servers besides office2go. I don't have to pay for anything for 30 days.
4smartphone.net is an exchange hosting service and will only support push or DirectPush as MS calls it when the MSFP ROM update is released for WM5. Until then, this is the only game in town and it works well. Their mail servers also support IMAP and POP3 client access for your desktop.
Their web site is not great but their software works VERY well.
Let us know your feedback. good luck!
Could you please post the link to the desktop software I need to download or post the file here.

by the way, critical step, once the client is installed, you have to perform one manual sync for it to set up the account and link with the built in Messaging app.
check out the instructions listed on the treocentral link above!
Ok, so I did have the right files. I tried teh desktop software, and I get login errors when It tries to sync. I tried the pocket pc software and I got an access denied error.
Followed what they said at treocentral...Not sure if this is going to work.
Please read the treocentral link above:
user: [email protected] (you need the whole thing)
That's the problem.
I tried that and still doesn't work. Also after reading the postings at treo central, it seems that it doesn't redirect your e-mail. You need to attach either an IMAP or POP3 e-mail to the office2go account.
I need a way to redirect my corporate exchange e-mail so this isn't a solution for me.

its not a redirector, its a server that pushes mail. You need Intellisync or something like that.
anyone have success besides me?
OK, I have it working on my K-Jam. I have a question though. I have four different pop3 acounts I want to push to my k-jam. Do I have to set all of them to forward to my one single space2go account or can I keep them seperate? I don't really want all the e-mails mixed up.
Also, when replaying to an e-mail I want to 'from' to be my original account not the space2go account. I can't see where I can set this.
I have two premium (paid) Hotmail accounts, and two POP that I need to access regularly.
AFAIK, Pocket MSN can only do one Hotmail account simultaneously (without having to switch accounts).
Is there an easy way to access them all easily (a la Blackberry). I'm no even asking for Push here (which is seriously advertised everytime I reset my x7500 but does not work).
I also tried Windows Live. Apparently this "state of the art just out of beta" thing asks you to switch between hotmails accounts too.
Sorry for whining, but this is all SO easy on a Blackberry... But at the same time Blackberries are ridiculously limited devices on other aspects compared to WM ones.
Having this working on WM is a must for business users.
Thanks for any help!
well u need to make a SECOND ACCOUNT and it should be a POP3 protocol account and must enter the pop3 settings manually yourself to make one...
Pocket MSN allows you to login to only ONE hotmail account at a time but several POP3 ones.
In Blackberry land you can have several Hotmail AND several POP3 accounts at the same time (not to mention pushed to your device almost in real time) with only one login. You get ALL you emails from every account in one shot (specially Hotmail and MSN)
I was looking for something similar with the x7500.
While we're at it. Can anyone, already using the new 'Windows Live Mail' on his Athena, confirm if this one will allow this? PocketMSN clearly does not.
Try HTTPMail Provider
I could never get Pocket MSN to work, so use the HTTPMail Provider for my Hotmail email. I think you can do more than one account with it. More details here: http://kripster.blogspot.com/2007/04/accessing-msn-mail-on-pocket-pc.html

Does anyone know the name of any server software that works the same as MS Exchange.
I don't need Push email, all I NEED is the contact, calendar sync. email is optional but preferable. Sort of like ZYB but with email.
I don't mind if it runs or windows or linux as long as it just works.
edit: sorry, just realized this was posted in the wrong forum.
try mail2web.com that is essentially FREE exchange server online, will do all, including mail aggrigation, ie it'll collect mail from other email accounts aswell.
I signed up for that but the support over there told me there was no way to upload/import my contacts to my address book on their server. My contacts wouldn't sync automatically either so I closed my account over there.

You do have all your contact currently on your PDA isnt it? therefore by the first sync all your contact should be copied to server. sorry If I dont understand your problem.
no you're right bulldog, you understood my problem.
The contacts didn't sync though and when I spoke to support they made it seem like the contacts aren't supposed to sync.
What am I doing wrong??
Ok, found a way to upload the contacts but theres a 100 contacts limit and I've got more than 100.
So solution still pending...
i have a question about mail2web.com:
i have my account and i managed to enable an email filter from to provider acror to mail2web. also i let outlook2k7 to leave the messages on the pop3 server. so i could download all my mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
i added the exchange server to my activesync on my htc prophet and it synced over air very fine. i get new mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
but sadly it looks like this exchange server doesn't support html mails
i just get only normal text mail over the exchange server. did i something wrong, or does their exchange servers not support this WM6 feature?
to sort of solve my own problem.. Kerio Mailserver does everything exchange does.. just requires a small proggie installed with outlook

mail2web servers dont support PUSH HTML....just text... and kiero doesnt support HTML either...
Carnivore:
That's not a problem since its always on as it is! Plus, thinking of getting a VPS so thatll make life easier.

Are you using the free or paid version? I was experimenting with the free one and I couldn't seem to upload more than 100.

Don't really need HTML, nor do I want it. So kerio not supporting HTML is a feature if you look at it from my side =P
Mail2Web configure PDA
I read an article today about Mail2Web and wanted to try it before I recommend it for any of our users. The article said there was a configuration file/program - have anyone of you seen this file - or know how I configure a PDA towards Mail2Web ?
I haven't personally tried it yet...

I am using Kerio MailServer and it works great. No problems so far!!!

Funambol isnt really compliant with any of the syncing standards.. Kerio looks like the best option so far as it works with activesync

Thanks dude this one is cool but this one is also not free service. even mail2web has closed free service. I am planning to host Funambol to serve free sync service.
Anyone interested?
Also you can use microsoft myphone service to sync contacts.
www.myphone.microsoft.com
But if you dont want to save contacts online the I guess PIM Backup s/w you can also schedule to take backup. And this even can take backup of mails, message.
Try Google sync
Try Google sync

nuevasync is the way to go
free service does calendar and contacts from google, premiums ($25/yr) does push email.
uses activesync/exchange
I can not get my Outlook Email to sync or operate at all. I don't know how to attach my hotmail account to this. Can anyone help? I was unable to find any solutions in this forum.
I'm very new to pc phones & data access (have had my AT&T wireless data and 8525 less than 2 wks.) and I recall having to do a little poking around to attach my hotmail account. But, what I did to get things working initially was to go to http://mobile.msn.com, enter my username/email address and password, and then hit the 'Hotmail' link whilst signed in to see my hotmail email.
Thanks Jefson, but on the device under Messaging, you can view Text, MMS, and Outlook Email accounts. This is the method I want to view my emails because it provides a little more options in sending and receiving emails rather than going to the mobile MSN account through the IE browser on the phone. Thanks though
I should add more information on my phone. I have a Tytn phone and I just recently upgraded to the Dopod version of WM 6. It's great so far, but just the Outlook Email is giving me problems. I was able to sync this with ActiveSync and my hotmail account on WM 5..???
outlook - contacts sync
I have the same problem. Using active sync I can sync everything apart form my contacts - (Im guessing this is because contacts are sync'd through outlook which is also not working). I took my HERMES to the orange shop where I baught it and they said to download a newer version of active sync. Although I cannot find active-sync for download anywhere.
Do you sync to a company server or is it only to your local PC?
hot mail
if you install msn it will ask you if you want to associate your mail account also
click yes
hey presto
off you go
rwcozens - I sync to a local PC, my own laptop
blowfeld - Is MSN avaliable to download to non USA users? Where do I get it from?
thanks

Here you go.
msn
its actualy the windows live that comes with the schaps 54b rom
initialising that will set up the contacts and email for hotmail
it works in uk
mobile messenger / mobile msn live ??
I have not found a place to download windows live or messenger that will allow me to transfer my contacts from my HERMES to messenger/hotmail. Can someone post a link to the appropriate download?
thanks

Great stuff!!! Just what i was looking for and nicely set out too love the the today page !!!!!
I've looked all over..and can't find a section that mentions push mail from yahoo, aol, etc.
I'm coming from the iPhone so the push mail works on the Yahoo side and I believe on the aol side.
I know that MS exchange has push feature to the phone but what about the other standards? gmail?
I noticed on Cookies HT there is a push mail icon but that did not work (i take it that's for ms direct push?)
Lastly...is there a setting or app that allows ALL mail to send / receive vs just doing one account at a time (annoying)?
Thank you!
the microsoft direct push functionality (supported on ALL windows mobile devices in at least the past 3-4 years) works with ANY microsoft exchange server.
this means it will work for gmail (i am using it myself!) because google has the exchange server on their end. google itself provides a generic windows mobile tutorial on how to set it up and you can find a video guide on youtube specifically on how to set it up on a stock HD2 (technique should work on custom ROMs too). my only additional advice is to back up your contacts (either to microsoft myphone or using pimbackup) before proceeding because the google sync can also upload your contacts to google, and you don't want your contacts to get nuked in case something goes wrong during the initial sync. another potential confusion you might face is that you will see the labels set up on gmail as folders on your device's client. by default, syncing of folders is disabled, but you can go into "manage folders" under one of the menus when viewing your inbox on the device to pick the folders that you want to sync in addition to the inbox. finally, the first sync may take several minutes (even an hour) depending on the duration you have set up to sync (i use a setting for last one month worth of emails) and on your connection speed (try to use wifi for the first sync).
i don't know about yahoo or aol but if they support the microsoft exchange server on their side, then push email should theoretically work in these cases also.
all in all, i rather like the functionality because it is highly configurable. you can even set up "schedules" such that it works in push mode on, say, weekdays from noon to midnight and switch to, say, 4 hour poll mode while you are sleeping.
then again, i haven't experienced push email on any other device such as the black berry or iphone so my view point is rather limited.
Simply put yes. I have yahoo pop3 servive and get my yahoo mail just fine on the HD2

pop3 in "poll mode" is different from push email, which is what the OP was asking about.
however, for most practical purposes, pop3/imap in quick poll mode (like once every 5 minutes) is really not that bad, but it might adversely affect battery life.
i suppose poll mode is fine for most of us but some individuals/businessmen might rely on quick email delivery straight to their phone so its more logical to consider poll vs push as two separate technologies in discussions!
Do the folders selected to be sync with inbox will sync automatically?

you can create an exchange account using your gmail login,if you have it,otherwise you can create a new gmail account and use it for send/receive your mail in push:in gmail web page you must add your yahoo account for check and than configure the exchange as i explane!
pop3 is NOT push. There is a delay. Depends on when you have it checking.
As far as i know, the default windows mobile does NOT support push email for yahoo. If you want push email, use seven like i did. Worked fine on my hd2.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It will allow push email from yahoo and many others. It is NOT an email app where you read them in seven, but a tool to push it to your phones normal email program. (what you would be using now)
I have been using it for a long time and had no problem.
