My friend just got the epic 4g and its got the default android launcher how do we get that on our phone?
There is a way that they and the fascinate can disable tw launcher in their settings. According 2 the article I read, the Captivate and Vibrant lack that ability. Their is a link somewhere around here for the Nexus' launcher2. It works ok-im still using it. Ill try 2 post if I can find it.

I asked about this in Q&A, the CDMA versions can disable Touch Wiz and run the Vanilla launcher. Why can't the GSM verisons? WTF.
question - why not just install launcher pro and get the stock feeling launcher and a ton more features?

LauncherPro is actually FASTER than stock launcher on Nexus One. I had to load Launcher Pro on my friend's Nexus cuz the stock launcher was so darn slow...
I've had lots of problems with LauncherPro. I've installed and removed it about 4 times. It works fine for a few days and then I start to have FC and huge lags. Remove it and everything is working good again.
I've found that Zeam is a great launcher, very minimal to start with but you can add what you want.

That's weird... No problems here with Launcher Pro.
Plus the Fancy Widget is cool too
Adw all the way. Retains the stock feel more than launcher pro imo. Minus the 3D app drawer

Nice find. I could never get myself to enjoy launcherpro either, and actually liked touchwiz. Zeam, however is awesome.
I'm a huge fan of ADW. It runs soo fast, and I'm a huge fan of being able to edit the number of rows/columns, I rather enjoy the High res look, and all my widgets scale correctly.. I love the shortcut bar too.. Best launcher ever.
I tried launcer pro, but I wasn't a fan, i switched back to regular touchwiz until I decided to give adw a go.
http://www.androidcentral.com/yes-you-can-turn-touchwiz-sprint-epic-4g-you-wont-want
Yeah, you can turn off Touchwiz on the Sprint Epic 4G and get rid of the static home screen icons and horizontal launcher. But what you're left with isn't really an improvement. You're stuck with three home screens, an outdated launcher, and a feeling of guilt for not listening to us in the first place.

Tried like four and it came down to ADW and launcher. AT the end I liked the lower scrolling bar for Launcher so I kept that one.
The only thing I liked better on ADW was the themes.

ADW has the scrolling indicator on the bottom of the screen too.
I'm using it with CM6 though, so it may be a custom CM feature though...

I thought that the Epic was using TW 2.5 because it needed landscape support. Maybe they used that as a base for the other CDMA (fascinate) ROM.
The Captivate and Vibrant both have TW 3.0.

I think both Epic and Fascinate have this feature because Samsung had to make all the TouchWiz apps and data fit in the 2GB of internal RAM, since the user may take out the SD card at any point. Since Vibrant and Captivate have 16GB of non removable memory, Samsung decided to not bother optimizing our TouchWiz as much or for allowing the removal of some of that bloat.
I vote for Odin3 and Launcher Pro - Forget the Epic Launcher
I can't bring myself to try ADW again because I don't think I can live without the Launcher Pro Plus widgets.
I will be exchanging my Epic for the first dual-core phone on Sprint (don't try to convince me otherwise!)
Anyways, I'm sure it'll be an HTC EVO type of phone, so it will be lacking Touchwiz. I have gotten so used to the touchwiz Lockscreen (I text ALOT!) and it's beautiful UI.
Will you miss Touchwiz when you get a new phone?
P.S. I stay away from roms that don't have touchwiz launcher. LOL
Meh. There are other lock screens and ADW gives me better functionality than TW - particularly the ability to organize the app drawer into groups.
Beautiful UI? Touchwiz?! You must be using a different version of touchwiz then
Personally all I will miss about touchwiz will be systematically hunting down and getting rid of any elements of it.

I actually think Go Launcher is very good. Touchwiz is somewhat limited on features.
Hey hey, it's very basic and the size of the dock is perfect for my setup. I came from sense and I have a sense ui feel to my Touchwiz, but as stated, touchwiz lockscreen wont be on HTC phones, which is why I will miss it.

And eww. I tried ADW, waaayyy too many options/preferences when adding just a single shortcut. Select shortcut name, icon, destination, etc. I just want to place the damn thing on the homescreen!
When I open up TW drawer, I can simply long press on any app and it'll drag it to the current homescreen I'm on.

Launcher Pro does.
I will only miss one thing: the slide to adjust brightness on the notification bar.
TW has its good points - the music player's above average and has nice dropdown controls, and the lock screen is useful. The launcher, however, is a real piece of crap, and I wouldn't miss it. There's plenty of good music players out there.
I don't.mind touchwiz but I like launcher pro the.best.

Samsung would be better off using Launcher Pro and Beautiful widgets.
If Samsung is smart they would just have the developers for Launcher pro with Beautiful widgets work for them. I use the android AOSP lock screen and I am set the only thing I hate is when I get an incoming phone call I have to swype the screen to answer the call. I hate twiz is sucks!!! It slows your phone down and it does not have very many features. Your benchmark score improve considerably without touch wiz. But I do like the hardware on the Samsung phone better the Samsung camera and screen are why better than HTC. Superior product inferior customer service. But I understand HTC does not update their hardware so it is easier to update their phone while as Samsung updates their hardware all the time so they need new code to get the with the newest hardware working at it's optimal level.
I wont miss touxhwiz...
Ill miss the wobble of the slider
If you think touchwiz is bad, wait till you get SenseUI. At least with touchwiz you can put on a new launcher and pretend it's not there.

Kind of. The htc dialer, messaging app, and email app are dumb and ugly as butt.
With all of the free and paid launchers out their would you prefer the Samsung Epic come with or without Touchwiz framework.
Personally dont care for the launcher but I like the little things like the task manager which is light weight and the quick panel toggles and little things like that. They're not a deal breaker for me but they're nice to have. Also some of the apps tied around TW are really nice like the camara, video player and music app. Those actually might be the most important to me anyway. Just my 2 cents.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I like the fact when you have a AOSP Rom you can have more custom Roms and Kernals. AOSP rom can use the camera, music player and video player too. Plus you don't have to wait for Samsung to come out with the source code for updates. Since Samsung knows it own drivers they can make a pure google phone with full functionality. But hey if touchwiz is important to you then vote on it. Touch wiz has some benefits too.
I like the functionality tw adds(task manager, music controls in various places, codec support, etc), but I wish it was implemented better.

Doesn't the TW framework add cpu optimization and stuff? you mean the Touch Wiz launcher?
Realistically speaking I think they should load it up with TW, but give users an easy way to go ASOP if they choose. Personally the TouchWiz launcher is great for the average individual, its simple and clean ui.

I think they should have made the drivers independent of Touchwiz. Our developers have to rewrite all the drivers just so we can get an AOSP rom to work, I think this is non-sense. It also makes the samsung epic the last to get updates. On one hand we like the cpu optimization but one the other hand we complain when the when it takes 3 to 4 months later to get updates. We can have it both ways. If you like the cpu optimization then you should expect the updates to take longer you should also expect incompatibly as well.
only thing i like about tw is the camera.. which i can get over, i dislike anything that isnt pure google....i miss my OG droid..
I miss one thing about touchwiz, and that's dragging my finger across a text convo and automaticly calling them. The Nexus S is the finest phone I've ever owned, I will never buy another phone that isn't 100 percent Google.

I don't think I can live without the adjustable brightness bar at the top.
I'm looking forward to official gb release to have tw again. I actually find myself missing it.
I just want a "new and improved EPIC"
I'd prefer it without TW. I think it looks gawdy.
Lack of customization, and it not being a "sense-quality" launcher, I'll stick to Launcher Pro until I find something better. ADW, GoLauncher, arc launcher, even dell stage I've tried, launcher pro beats everything.
Another vote for launcher pro. Best launcher out there.

Are the widgets in the pulldown notification area part of TouchWiz? If so, I'd prefer touchwiz.

Guys think about it, it would be a new phone meaning it would come with TW4, and I don't know about you guys but it looks pretty sexy.
I'm using the TW4 launcher and icons and must say it's looking great.
And I'm sure the rest of TW4 on the SGS2 is amazing.
You've all seen the leaked images of the Within, right?
Oh the excitement.
I will never buy another phone with TouchWiz unless it already has official CM on it. Same goes for all other crappy UIs. Its either CM7+ or a Nexus from here on out.
Hey guys
ive had my galaxy s i9000 when it was first released just before june and wow its been a long journey from dissapointment to excitement waiting for new updates to fix problems to be dissapointed again
and as my personal thoughts i am quite pleased on how well the galaxy s finally seems to perform now with adw launcher ex it feels so smooth now instead of using touchwiz and other launchers especially when you put the desktop scrolling speed to around 1600-1800 you should try it on all android phones it feels iphone smooth or even slightly better i just hope future android phones are optimized because if it isn't i think i will be jumping ship and btw im running everything stock JVT no kernels no nothing thanks.
your welcome to share your opinions but my friend got a iphone 4s this morning and it's a great phone but i don't like the functionality of other operating systems thats why i originally started my smartphone journey on android 1 year and a half ago .

That code rewrite the dev promised us a year ago lol.
GO launcher is the best launcher ever!! it support folders in the app drawer and all the goodies.. should try!!
If you don't care for Touch Wiz, try LauncherPro - I found that it is way smoother on my Note than either ADW (which I use on my SGS) or Go launcher.
LauncherPro is the only one i never tried... i'm sure it's still zippier than TW

For some reason, SPB Shell 3D defaults to tablet mode on the Note. That's why the icons and widgets were so small. Once you change to the smartphone interface in "Experimental Settings," everything will become normal-sized.
SPB Shell really shows off the power of the Note. I had to use Launcher Pro with my Dell Streak because it just wasn't able to handle SPB Shell.

Not many people use LauncherPro nowadays, it seems. I do like the ability to set 15 shortcuts on the bottom quicklaunch bar. How does it run on the Galaxy Note, given that Touchwiz is GPU accelerated?
Neither Go launcher nor Launcher pro accept S-memo notes as widget. When you try to send the note as widget, it gets attached to tw anyway.

He said "will have" (ie: future tense). Theres been confirmation that the Note is indeed a device getting ICS... As for when that is, who knows. Samsungs firmware update schedules are always a laugh. I figure by the time ICS rolls around the XDA community would have provided about 40 different custom ROMs based on it anyway.

I just hope that the wacom digitizer drivers and custom behavior related to the stylus won't turn out to be too problematic to put into custom ROMs. it'd be a shame to choose between ICS or pen functionality, or wait for Samsung to release a touchwizified ICS.
