vibrant vs hd2 - Vibrant General

hey guys,i have a hd2 and was thinking on getting a vibrant.i just wanted to weigh out the pros and cons of both hoping some of you guys came from the hd2 to this phone. I'm a big fan of android so i could save some of you the need to tell me how much better anroid is than wm6.5, one drawback i seened is this phone doesnt have a flashlight, another i seem to be seeing is the battery life. How's the call service on the vibrant cause one of the main problems on the hd2 for me is signal dropping randomly so if i get this phone i would like to have that problem fixed. If there's anybody who came from the hd2 or anyone else who can tell me truthful facts on both the pros and cons on this phone i would greatly apprecite it.

honestly...if you have the hd2 already, just run android on it. They have froyo and sense running on it perfectly. A guy I work with has a Leo and he has been running android for about 2 weeks solid with no problems. Kinda makes me want one. I have always been an HTC kinda guy. Love my vibrant though.

My previous phone was an hd2. I ran android 2.2 on it but it had a lot of problems. Keep in mind that it runs on Linux and you manually have to boot haret on it. You will still have windows running on the background. Android is basically like a "mask". You will encounter small issues like Bluetooth or GPS depending on the rom You flash and it can get very annoying. IMO I like the Vibrant a lot better.

Screen on vibrant wins. If you're gonna go through the trouble of running android on the hd2 then it's best to just get native android phone (duh). Hd2 sucks monkey butt. The screen shatters way too easily and it's huge, with subpar battery life. At this point with win7 around the corneri don't see a point in getting the hd2.

I had and loved my HD2 for since March! I flashed a ton of ROMS! I tried several different Froyo 2.2 ROMS on it! But there were too many issues with that! But honestly I grew very tired of WM! I had the G1 when it first came out and I fell in love with the Android OS! So I was really missing it! Lately I've been reading up on the Vibrant and I went ahead and got one! I love it and I'm pretty much done with anything other than the Android OS....which reminds me I have to change my sig!

Take a look in here, maybe it will help you a bit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745201&highlight=hd2+vibrant

seriously.....
just get a vibrant, you won't regret it.
unless you loved WM

Lol...was gonna do that too. There was another one also.
To the OP, with recent advances such as eugenes ROMs and JACs kernel, the vibrant has taken itself into a new level. Great battery life, good speed, an awesome screen... Or the BEST screen on the market, with more things waiting in the wings... ie: the "voodoo lag fix" & the infamous "cm6.1".
This might be a BOLD statement but the way I feel about my vibrant now, the CM series & other phones have to live up to this standard... as long as samsung provides support through 3.0, nothing would make me think any different... That's how much I enjoy this phone!

Yo, do it I switch from the hd2, and no looking back no more freezing slow phone, and i don't miss the anything about it....

I am also another HD2 to Vibrant convert who made the jump after playing with 2.2 builds on the HD2 and realizing I loved Android. Everything works on the Vibrant and its a slim little sexy thing. I'm happy.

I agree the screen on the vibrant wins. And when sunlight hit the screen get a lot less glare. I forgot the percentage. Also the battery life is better on the vibrant also because of the super AMOLED. make sure you get a screen protector though t scratches easily unlike the HD2. IMO I think the quality and material is better on HTC than Samsung. I like their design better. But to be honest I got tired of the HD2 for the many reasons wrote above. Oh yea and if you are thinking of using android on HD2 prepare yourself for really fast battery drain. Android on that phone takes so much battery its ridiculous. I'm so happy I got the Vibrant I even changed my. XDA signature just now lol.

I have a Vibrant and my wife has a HD2. I find her on my phone more than she is on hers. The screen quality between the two can even be compared. Its like having a mini LCD screen in the palm of your hands when watching video. Call quality is great, I have not experienced the GPS issues that some report, phones doesn't lag or freeze unlike Windows OS, rediculous amount of memory onboard with the option of expanding. This ohone is the **** trust me and hell its Android lol....

Get a Dell Streak or ....

I was highly impressed by Streak's 5" Inch and good battery life. However lack of development on software side is forcing me to think otherwise. I plan to buy from ebay, and my observation is I9000 is the same price as Streak. Spec wise I9000 is better than Streak apart from battery life and screen size. HD2 is cheaper, has the same proc as Streak and has a slightly larger screen than Galaxy S. HD2 and Galaxy S both have very good user base and lots of custom builds are being developed.
Am I wrong to think that it would be foolish to buy a Streak now and instead should go for HD2/Galaxy S?
Your feedback is kindly appreciated.
Forget the Streak (or any other Dell device). Dell just isn't up to the task.
Aside from the glacially-slow development times, the hardware just isn't 2011-quality.
If you can wait a bit, I would wait. If you cannot, get a Galaxy.
(Too bad HTC doesn't make a larger phone like the Streak.)
It's very much a question about what you need in a phone..
The streaks are unique in using a 5 inch lcd. you can really not get the experience in any other phone.
The very special use/customization of android is also unique. I love it because the super good readability and space for text input.
The HD2 is running windows mobile os, which is ultra customizable, but requires you to be willing to use time to make it work as you want.
Galaxy S phones are very good in their own way. Good implementation of android, and easy to operate. Good screen as they use s-amoled technology, very rich colors (some say it is too rich, so it becomes unnatural) but at only 4 inches, it's a bit crowded when you input text..
My thoughts only...
EDIT: maybe I should include the EVO 4G/desire HD to the mix? Good quality hardware, very innovative, and 4,3 inches.. Very good alternative indeed.

If I could go back, I would not get Streak simply because it is made by Dell. Dell doesn't have experience in making phone, and unlike Apple, they are never been good in software either.
Thanks for input guys.
It's a shame that Dell failed to provide support for their first venture into android. Wonder why they are releasing new handsets in this competitive market.
I am looking for a balance between value for money and spec. Galaxy is good spec wise but ~£100 more than HD2. Pros- Better proc, better battery life and possibly better custom build support in the future. It's negative points would be- smaller screen size (better qual though) and poor build quality.
HD2 is relatively cheap now compared to it's spec due it based on winmo. However there are loads of froyo builds available now. Pros of HD2- 4.3" screen and price.
Desire HD is very expensive atm.
I am inclined towards HTC HD2 now.
I had the galaxy s for 4 months. Loved it at first then started finding all the screw ups samsung made. Flashed every custom rom i could find. Seemed like i was constantly trying to fix something that was borked. Love the streak. Not NEARLY as many problems as plague the galaxy s phones. Just read their forums. Gps problem this......lag problem that.......etc etc. All true. Big headache.
Go for the Streak, with some simple tweaking it rocks. No other phone even comes close.
Great to hear streak has good potentials cause I just ordered mine at usd$154 on starhub 2 year contract.

Oh dear! Yesterday it was 3-0 against Streak. Two points for Streak today and now the margin is 3-2 against Streak!
From what I understand, none of them is perfect, but the question is which one is more productive?
Galaxy S does seem to have a lot of bugs which again pushes me to opt for HD2. Mind you my original choice was Streak, and the reason I am reconsidering my decision is lack of development on software.
Streak 1 man show (DJ Steve as a Dev) do we need more NOOo, I don't want to have 150 different thread with roms, and an extra 300 threads of people crying about stuff not working, LAGFIX what lagfix we dont even have lag, I'm still running Steve's 1.1.1. I have and will NEVER run Official anything on my Streak, I have a friend with an X10, it has some issues, for example no stable froyo no multi touch, not enough ram, colrs are not displayed correctly, Galaxy S, you need Lagfix WTF is dat? will never know, GPS fix... and so. I have zero issues besides my faulty internal memory and perhaps the most annoying i can find on my streak is that the compass is a little bit off by 3 degrees or so. But I love this one man show everything runs smoothly I don't get crazy force close, shut downs, reboots, I don't need to load roms using a PC I just copy update.zip to an SD bam ROM flashing on the road. can you that with Samsung? Sony ? no I haven't mentioned HTC because I havent played with one yet but I'll drop it here too if I use one.
to add more HD2 someone metioned WinMo 6.5 that can run Froyo with no issues and I bet thtat's what the OP will be doing
At the end you pick what you think is best for you, personal choice Streak wins all the way, I'm not a person who is always talking on the phone I browse and text more than what I talk hence my inclination towards the streak.
and which one is more productive? good question some say more "royalty space" or screen area makes you more productive hence dual monitors @ offices and stuff. So there you go that feeds my answer so go Streak!!!
Samsung releases devices then moves on. Be careful believing they'll roll out upgrade after upgrade.
People can complain about Dell's decision to put 1.6 on the device, but they've promised 2.2 by end of year all along.
I want froyo... but 1.6 on the Streak is still very solid.
To me the question when buying the Streak is exclusively about form factor. If you want a big pocketable device... the Streak is great.

Agree with all of the above, +1 for the Dell Streak!
100% Streak
I've had the streak since day 1 that it was sold in the US, and I've done all the ROM's that DJ_Steve has released (Man, that guy is crazy amazing) I used to be the guy who got a new phone every month, trying to find something even better. And now, I've had the streak for a while. Its just so....big. There's nothing like pulling out your phone and watching a movie on the go on a big screen like this. There's no way I can go back to a smaller phone. And for the people complaining about performance, sure, I can see that if you remained on the stock 1.6 (even then, it wasn't so bad) But with the mods and RoM's that are coming out rather regularly, this phone blows everything out of the water by a long shot. Highly recommend
for Dell Streak owners for 2 months +
How is the battery life in Android 1.6 and Android 2.2 ( froyo ) for a multi-tasking usage ( GPS , browsing through 3G , browsing through Wi-Fi , listening to music , watching videos or movies )
You feedback are highly appreciated

My HTC HD2 died from touchscreen death...so its fresh in my head.
To me this streak i got to replace it is head and shoulders over the HTC HD2.
yes its bigger but its proportional to an HD2 so your not walking around with a giant square screen or nothing. the Streak fits nicely in your hand.
i could not be happier with this streak..
I came from a HD2 and I loved the phone, after my contract ended, I did consider just sticking with it cos I couldn't think of a phone that was better than it and did not want to go backwards with screen size, until I randomly walked into an O2 store and saw this monster and had no idea what it was, had a play around and I liked it, youtube more of it when I got home and thought I really want it.....more than anything it was just the sheer size that sold it to me....never used android before and I've only heard good things about it....so I thought what the hell, and I have to say....not been disappointed at all.
I've been on 1.6 since I got it in July and I've been happy with it, but just recently, after installing the official 2.2, it changed everything and I can't believe how much quicker it is, especially after some extra tweeks. The phone still has some problems but not enough for me to hate it and if you look around, I'm sure you'll find quite a few threads of people complaining about his that and the other with some people truely hating the phone. But if your a patient person who doesn't let the little things annoy you too much then the Streak will be great to use.
But if you want a solid phone, then you won't go wrong with the HD2, I would have loved to try Froyo on that bad boy. HTC did a really good job of stuffing the phone with a great UI and lots of little features. When showing the phone of to my mates, I could sell it to them with this feature and that feature, but now with my Streak...I can't really think of anything to try and show them bar showing them how awesome the massive screen is. It's almost like HTC made the HD2 awesome for your where as you have to make the Dell awesome for yourself if you know what I mean (having to install updated firmware, fill you phone with lots of apps, choosing your own UI etc).
As for the Galaxy S, I really didn't like the feel of the phone itself, fair enough it has Froyo with a good UI and lots of little features, but the phone felt soooo cheap and tacky I didn't think much of it, where as the Dell streak feels nice to hold (it's not perfect, bit of flex, slightly loose creeking panels) and the HD2 was even better and felt really solid (though didn't like the curved back with the sharp camera pointing out).
Sorry for the long post but thought it would help with the more detailed opinion. Let us know what you decide.

No doubt, Sense is good, I like it a lot. Recommended the HD2 to a friend of mine and he is very happy with it, out of the box. The basic software on the Streak is quite bland, but now that I have customized my setup it looks and works great, too. Straight stock Android is really ugly, however, just like WinMo you can turn it into whatever you want. You can get Sense on Android, too and it has all the bells and whistles as on WinMo --- just not on this 5" monster.
I have had my Streak since day one of uk release..it's the best phone I've ever had and to be honest Its the only phone that I haven't thought about upgrading / selling on ebay after 6months.
I used to use my laptop for everything now I rarely use my laptop for anything as it's always just pull out the streak and away I go.
And ever since we got Froyo on it (thanks DJ Steve) it's just amazing.. as I said used to use Laptop for BBC Iplayer, now just watch it on the streak!
Yes I agree People will buy what they need but everyone should at least consider the streak... especially if there trying to cutdown the carry weight of day to day gadgets!
Agreed, I'm lost for ideas fir what to buy myself for christmas this year. Last year I ordered an N900 but it kept getting delayed so I bought the milestone. And finally THE STREAK arrived!

(Q) Need Some Feedback From Current Epic Owners

Hey guys,
I was an Evo owner over the last 7 months and have jumped ship to join the Epic 4G world. What I wanted to know is as far as reliability, have you guys experienced or heard of any issues both to rooted and stock Epics? If so, what seems to trigger these problems. I ask because I had been through a big problem with my EVOs that turned out to be a pretty common issue. Apparently, a lot of EVOs seem to like rebooting on their own at random times throughout the day. It usually occurred during phone calls or while using applications that use up a lot of juice. To me, it seemed as though it was due to an overheating motherboard caused by the large LCD screen that creates more heat and uses more power than AMOLED technology. So, I finally got sick of having to be afraid of using my phone and decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I have heard a lot of good things regarding the Galaxy S line as far as hardware reliability even though the knock on them is the heavy use of cheap materials. So, I wanted to hear it first-hand from the owners themselves. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and looking forward to pimping out my new Epic!

The knock on the Galaxy S line is not the use of cheap materials, its actually people complaining that its body if fully made of plastic...but people group that up to say that is poor build quality..which it is not..a lot of the component inside the Galaxy S are manufactured by Samsung themselves, and these components are used in varies devices rom EVO, to iphone to etc...
As far as build quality it is actually superior if you look at a teardown video..but as stated..people "group up" poor build quality to be associated with having a plastic body..while plastic may not be people's first choice it is quite durable if not more durable then an EVO...
Well first off i have to say that the epic is the coolest phone i have ever seen and used. when i bought mine it was toss up over the epic or the evo. I hate touch screens i really do. so the fact that the epic had a keyboard and the evo didnt was the selling factor for me. my uncle has an evo. now both phone are great phones but in my opinion the epics screen is so much better. the color and clarity is alot better. i like everything on the epic better than the evo with one exception. the gps on the epic is pure crap. with 2.2 and the skyfire browser, web browsing on the epic is just the same as browsing from a netbook, only smaller. so yeah my only complaint is i wish the gps worked. on 2.1 it works only sometimes and on 2.2 it doesent work at all.

I can definitely relate with your screen comparison. Before the EVO, I had the Nexus One with T-Mobile (Still my favorite phone EVER) and the AMOLED screen is LIGHTYEARS ahead of the crap LCDs.
Now, about that GPS problem...I've heard a little bit about the GPS problems concerning the Epic. Are there any fixes out for it whether through OTA updates or developers? If so, how well does the GPS work with the fix? I'm not too concerned with the GPS problems just because it's a software flaw that can be fixed but I would think that after the Epic has been out now for over 3 1/2 months, they would have figured a way to fix that problem already.

That's really helpful information gTen, and it definitely gives me a lot more confidence. Honestly man, I'm just so sick of not being able to mess around with my phone for fear of breaking it. I tend to dabble A LOT at hacking these Androids and the Nexus One was a beast for being able to handle anything I threw at it. My first Evo was great for a couple months and then it just suddenly started going to hell out of the blue.
Now, even though I hack my phones and do alter them quite a bit, I don't do anything that pushes them to the brink of failure...NOT EVEN CLOSE! I usually have a pretty good idea of how much the phone can handle and I don't get too close to the max but with the EVO, simply putting CM6 without changing the kernal or theming seemed like too much. Even my buddies 2 day old STOCK Evo started rebooting randomly about 5-10 times in a 3 hours span right in front of me. We went to the mall to exchange it immediately thereafter. I've seen people that have had this problem whether rooted or stock and I just can't believe that so many people have had this issue and HTC sits on the sidelines and does nothing to fix the issue. I used to be all about HTC until this huge flaw with the EVO rattled my confidence in their phones. I'm hoping I won't be saying the same about Samsung 6 months from now.
if you read other posts in these forums there are ways of flashing back and forth from rom to rom using a program called odin but at the same time ive read that people have problems with drivers and such and it not working right. im a noob and afraid that if i tried doing all of that id ruin my phone. i miss the gps when it worked but if i get lost theres always mapquest lol.
I would just say that my experience with the epic has been amazing. I came from and htc touch diamond which was a good phone but nothing compared to the original touch which I loved, romed, and used for 2 years, but this phone owns those phones by so much(htc). The fact the samsung has given us an amazing base recovery system as well as download mode( which I think is key for any dev phone) not to mention clockworkmod and rom manager, shows great software management potential. If samsung isn't saying that this is great hardware then I don't know why they would make their flagship phone(nexus s) almost a clone other than a few minor upgrades. Rumors are amuck that these phones will be some of the first to see gingerbread updates. Gps wise I have seen great improvement through the test leaks and now on dk28 I get a lock within 5 feet 90% of the time. When we get source I think we will see amazing things from across the galaxy s line, and most of them will be on or ported to the epic. Just my bit for ya;-)
sent by my Nexus S with a keyboard.
I can tell you that gps doesn't seem to be a problem with newer epics. I got mine nov 18 (HW 700.5) and didn't have a problem with gps till I attempted the 2.2.1 update that "leaked" (setup leak). My only major complaint is the slide your finger across notification area brightness control that can't be disabled.... and lack of google apps account support in 2.1 (I miss the most in 2.2). These are not really issues with the phone. Just software that can be fixed. I get good battery life (most of my work day using task killer, which I liked not having to use one in 2.2 got same battery life without TK).
The screen is really nice. Been renting movies on mediahub using the $50 credit. Not worth buying if you can't stream to tv samsung!!
I am happy with my purchase now that I know sprint planned on removing those minor bugs I had and hope they don't trade it with a major (gps).
Hope any of this helps...

thanks guys these responses have been exactly what I was looking for. here's another important question. what is the fastest rom available for the Epic? I really don't look for a busy user interface I look for speed, high quadrant scores, and more of a stripped down look...let's say the closest rom to CM6 that's not glitchy. it would be a plus if it also removes touchwiz but not mandatory. Thanks again guys

I'm running mammons bonsai4all and compared to quantum 1.5 is a lot smoother but I haven't tried q2.0 or viper. Viper to me seems like a final product where as quantum and bonsai seem to be more barebones and you can add more of what you want. But until we get source on 2.2 kernel, these roms are all really similar other than acessories and a few small mostly visual tweaks. Serious kernel tweaks wil be what sets these phones apart from the rest.

So far, I'm leaning towards Viper. I have selfish reasons to like that Rom too...it goes along with my username and my car

This has made my day! Can't wait for the finished product. There really is no other rom like CM
I've had no issues with the epic except for some software factors, due to samsung not updating there phones fast enough, other then that pretty flawless.
I wonder what it is about the Samsung Galaxy S line that makes these software updates such a difficult task.

Hd2 is it worth it?

Okay so right now I'm using the evo shift but I'm about to switch to cincinatibell and was thinking of getting a hd2 because I'm an obessive flasher but I was wondering is the phone fast? Like my evo I've herd rumors that the speed is rediculously good like just as good as my shift I don't actually know how true that is what kinda changes would I be looking at if I did this would it be worth it I mean honestly is it as beast as the rumors I've heard or is it a p.o.s and I should concider a different phone
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Is it worth it ? depends on what it costs & what other device options are on offer.
HD2 is good for a cheap price, plenty of fun for a flashing junkie.
Downsides are: 1100Mah battery, no TV out, screen & motherboard issues are too common, sound quality is not the best, device can get hot very quickly.
I got my T-Mob version cheap but if paying close to full price it is out classed by other options.
1230 mAh battery, not 1100.
It's a good buy for a flashing junkie. And yeah, it's fast. It's the best Windows Mobile device and very good and fast Android/WP7 device. Of course there are faster and newer (and more expensive and not capable of multi OS), but there are also tons of slower devices.
Mister B pointed out downsides so... yeah, that's pretty it.
It would definitely satisy for disorder. On the note on whether it is fast. Yes it is fast, however your evo 3d should be a bit snappier.
To be honest, you won't find another phone with all these opportunities like the HD2, so if it's a ride you're looking for, this will give you one hell of a.
In terms of the best performance, you should look else where I suppose.
So its a great phone but like all phones has its issues (undrstandable) so aslong as I get it cheap then yes its worth it if not then find something else gotcha thanks every1 you helped me and I think I will be joining your community very soon jw is the android fully functional? And is it swype compatible?
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Swype is fully functional and Android, well, that depends on the ROM you pick. But on the whole, Android works very well on the HD2 (as does WP7 too).
I am on my second HD2, the first one being stolen after 6 months. I didn't want any other phone as a replacement. It HAD to be another HD2. For me, it's the best phone I have ever had and the most versatile that has ever been built. For a flash-junkie, it has to be the best phone in the world! Android either via SD or NAND, WP7 NAND, Ubuntu and Meego (the latter still rather wobbly) and of course WinMo 6.5 factory installed. You can still get them new via Amazon and co, but expect to pay about €450 - not cheap for a phone that is over 18 months on the market. Just goes to show that it is still a desirable piece of kit
seeing as you said your a flash junky like most of us here than def go for it. i barely got mine thursday after school and im coming from a captivate and you would have to be doing some really intensive stuff to see any lag what so ever and since your coming from a evo shift there really isnt much of a difference between it and the hd2 plus you can dual boot!!!!
not worth every cent (hryvnia) i paid.
i keed, i keed =P
Many good quality used ones from $200 - $250. Well worth it. This is the only handset I need till SGSII hits TMOUS.
And yes they can be fast with the Android ROMs

HD2 is a very nice phone. If you want to try different operating systems, it's the only choice. If you already know what you want, choose a new one with native operating system of your choice, if possible, dual core.
Used phone seems to be a very good choice nowadays, because people update their phones much too often.
It's awesome, I've switched to HD7, Vibrant and Nexus 1, and the HD2 buries them all in terms of flexibility, power and is a very well constructed device, glass and metal. I don't understand why folk say Evo has more power, isn't it the same hardware wise? The new 2ghz phones aren't valid yet as I read
most app's don't utilize the processor...besides, you know once you buy virtually any other phone, it will be stuck on gingerbread and have far less roms than XDA has for the HD2...
I love my HD2 and will for a long time coming..
Correction, they don't utilize the full power of the processor. Meaning whilst its not operating both cores, both are still being used, just one is a helper.

Very well said, I will hold onto mine until it completely dies. Then I eill still try to fix it if repair parts are still avaliable.
At the OP, the HD2 is the beast you have read about. The HD2 falls short of nothing except maybe undo able hardware mods like no font facing camera and no TV out. It can handle almost anything you throw at it software wize and hang right in there with the native devices of what ever OS you use with it. I would dare say ot was the introduction device and is the intruduction device for several people who knew nothing ofcthe mobile development community and giving some pretty awsome crash courses. I am ome myself, now I know a good bit about Windows Mobile, learning like a ton about Android right now, and will try Windows Phone 7 eventually. I use Android for my daily driver now. I do not think my life would be the same without my HD2 now.
Much as I like my hd2, there are a couple of drawbacks: 65k dual touch screen & shonky GPS. Battery could be bigger too, but that goes for most androids.

I just started using the HD2 with Android and I'm blown away. My house mate wants to swap his iphone 4. I love the voice commands with google. Swype is amazing. I've used the Navigation feature which worked right away. It seems like there is nothing the phone can't do, coming from a Blackberry perspective.
I find that the phone is very fast.
i own an hd2. i tried the stock rom, customized stock rom, and 2 android builds. as for android, the cam and camcorder suck, theyre not asd sharp as on the stock rom. battery on droid sucks too. and call quality is very bad.
on a customized rom, the call quality sucks, cam is horrible, and batt drains a lot, but it does look good. and this is what i dont understand. why is fluff taken out of a custom rom then its cam and batt suck?
on the stock rom, batt is better than custom rom and android. call quality sucks but a patch can reduce the static greatly. everything else works sharply and perfect. but, it lacks apps.. and this is what kills the phone.
hope this helps.
According to me, the only things that go against the phone are the fact that it has no front cam, the screen is just a 65k and the speaker could have been a wee bit louder. Everything else software related has been or will soon be sorted out by the good folks at XDA. If you can accept the hardware limitations, take the plunge man. This phone is a flash junkies dream.
My hd2 is my first smartphone (comming from a old nokia) i still use my hd2 as a normal 'call & be called' phone
litle by little im feeling comfortable with the bazillion options
i got it cheap for 150 euro (+- 200$) in original/clean state .
This is my second hd2 and it is well worth it...it is a very fast phone when flashed to android

after my digitizer suddenly died out of nowhere and found out that this is a known issue to all HD2s, no its not worth it

Similar HD2 Phones

hey guys ive recently been having TONS of problems with my HD2, I cant do simple things like listen to music, or even talk on my phone without it freezing. I know its an overheating issue and thats why when im driving I have to put my phone in my AC slot to keep it cooled. Im sick of dealing with the freezing, whats the point of having a smartphone if you cant do anything with it, so enough of my rant but I want to buy a phone similar to the HD2, the HD7 isnt really my cup of tea cuz of WP7. Also, im on T-Mobile
What are you using? Android, winmo? Then what rom? If android try a different rom or kernel.
Now what do you mean by similar to a hd2? Size, processing power, amount of customizability? If it is customizability, then you won't find another phone like the hd2. If it is size and processing power, the sensation of galaxy s 2 will suffice. I'd pick the galaxy s 2 however because over all it is the better device. At least for me.

After I played with my Flyer, I would rather go for HTC EVO 3D
Sensation and SGS II is in the same league. But, soon will be just common spec.
3d is the future although not everyone's taste
Just my 2 cents
Cheers
im using android so I would like an android phone, im not sure the Galaxy 2 is for T-Mobile. I have tried various Android roms, I even got rid of everything and went back to winmo and I still have problems. It seems like my phone over heats really easily and my battery life seems to be getting worse. I just want a phone that feels as sturdy as my HD2, my bro has the Galaxy S and it feels like cheap plastic :S
you say your not sure if its on t-mobile.......I'm gonna assume you mean t-mobile US. probably should go for the sensation. Don't know much about the EVO 3D so can't really say anything on it. Also pretty much everyone I know who has/had a SGS1 and moved up to a SGS2 say it definitely doesn't feel cheap like before lol

Have you tried changing your battery? If its faulty that could be causing the overheat/freeze issues.
Ever thought of getting another HD2?
is the Galaxy S2 for T-Mo US? I havent tried a new battery, I thought about getting a new HD2 but I think I rather stick with just a normal android phone. I will miss how customizable the phone is though Also the HD7 does look pretty cool but when I tried it on my HD2 the market place didnt really have much....has it changed at all?
The Evo is very similar with the HD2, specs are nearly identical except for the camera and the 4G. But the Desire HD is like an upgrade to the HD2, from which I am also told that a lot of devs are switching over to working on.
I have similar question.
Is there any other device that can be flashed with any OS
Im not happy with HD2
I'd like similar phone to HD2 that can be hacked and flashed with any OS (android, ubuntu, windows)

I doubt that any producer will ever do the mistake to even think to design a device so versatile as HD2 (still!) is...
I'm sorry but my hd2 is perfect and I don't even want another phone right now. Outside of a few minor things exec the best phone on the market isn't much better than mines. My advice is to try out MIUI and I think you'll change your mind.

Ordered Galaxy S2!

Just ordered a Galaxy s2 and am super excited!
Thought it was much better than the HTC sensation, I am a massive HTC fan but recently I think they have cut corners in a lot of places and there hardware on recent phones hasn't been upto scratch. It seems that the exynos processor blows everything else out of the water at the moment also.
Wanted to ask, has anyone had any issues with the phone?
Also would you recommend rooting the phone?

First of all, all the phones have their own issues everyone experience them differently. I have mine for couple of weeks now none issue so far. everything works perfect for me.
About root. Root only if you need to root. Normally i'm flashcoholic but this is the first time i'm using a phone without root or custom Rom. So root only if you need to and not because you can.
There was a loooon discussion somewhere on xda discussing which one is better (sensation vs GalaxyII). I choose GSII because it worked beter and faster. Don't get me wrong sensation is also powerfull but Sense and poor driver support makes it a little bit slow or crappy.
Agree with the post above

Thanks, usually i'm a flashaholic too .
the phone has battery problems
the phone's nice specs come with fast drain. i had to flash custom roms and kernels to give my battery life some boost.
Yeah I also had to flash Litening rom and kernel to get battery life that was even sensible!
Came from a Sensation, the GS2 is just quicker. Miss the QHD on the sensation, missed sense 3.0 lock screen. Love the light weight of the GS2, love the browsing experience of the GS2, love the battery life (maybe because I get better signal on ATT that tmobile). I'm running CM7 nightlies and love it. Can't wait for the finished product.
Oh and notifications are just louder. The sensation seemed to be a bit too quiet for me.

You can get lockscreen apps to look like sense.

Not everyone has battery problems , i don't in fact standby and usage is better then on my nexus one and att captivate.
You are going to love this phone when you get your hands on it. I've upgraded from an HTC G1/dream. I've been waiting ages for a phone like the S2 to come out and I'm glad I waited. I've not had any issues with the phone. Battery life is great. I read in another thread that loading too many widgets on your screens has a negative result on battery life, so I don't have many widgets running at any one time. I've not rooted my phone and don't see the need to yet, partly due to the fact that the stock rom for my Canadian S2 hasn't made its way onto these forums yet.
Same exciting with me having my 3rd day with this magnificent s2 and couldnt agree more with comodor

Thanks for the replies, should be recieving tomorrow hopfully .
Should be a nice upgrade to my already ageing HTC Desire Z.
Very nice phone, currently the best out in the market. Post your impression when you get it.
Just an update, recieved the phone this morning and i'm loving it!
I had to root it to unlock it, so my sim card would work, but the process was so simple, done it within 10 minutes.
There are little things from HTC that I miss and a lack of a dedicated search key is annoying the hell out of me, and I think HTC sense is better as a UI.
But all in all a huge improvment, i'm just in love with that screen and so powerful!
I'm a big fan of stock android UI, so for now i'm using launcherpro, might flash a custom rom later.
Also was worries about people saying about the cheap plastic felling of the phone, but although the phone is plastic, feels very solid and high quality in hand and looks awesome too. I think its built better than my previous desire HD and desire Z. Although they had a metal body, the desire HD's sim and battery covers were awfully built and never stayed on properly. As for the desire Z, i've only had that thing for about a month and a half and already the paint is starting to peel of.
Brilliant phone overall and would recommend to anyone.
Does anyone recommend a good custom rom?
Can we say pointless thread.
