[Q] Can't find certain apps on the Market - Vibrant General

There's a couple live wallpapers out there that I've been looking for. They show up on appbrain, but when I search them on the market they can't be found. I was thinking it's Vibrant specific, but appbrain shows that some of the users are vibrant phones. What gives? Why do some apps just not show up for me, and for other people?
There are several I've had this issue with, but the two in specific I'm looking for are Particle Storm and Giraffe Live Wallpaper Free. They're both free apps in case anyone has a backup of the APK files they could throw my way.

Missing Market Apps

Is anyone else unable to get certain apps from the Android Market on their Vibrant?
Search www dot cyrket dot com for anifree (the author of a Live wall paper I want). See all the apps/wallpapers? Now take your Vibrant to the market and search for the same thing (anifree). You'll find their Agenda and their Funny Pic apps. Not a single wall paper.
Shooting the barcode in Google Goggles or Barcode Scanner returns the same result. App not found.
Anyone have any advice?
I have experienced this issue as well, not sure how to fix it or what it's caused by. Let me guess your looking for the koi pond wallpaper? In the theme section there's a thread titled live wallpapers, and you'll find it in there.

I'm having this issue with my new vibrant also. My phone is rooted and I thought that might have something to do with it, but I checked on a family member's new vibrant and the anipet live wallpapers also don't show for them with a market search or using the qr code on cryket. I installed the koi wallpaper on my phone from the live wallpapers thread, and the atrackdog app showed it has an update available, but it's link can't access the app from the market either. There were a few other live wallpapers I've been unable to access thru the market or cryket, starfield and panoplanet are a couple that come to mind.
I'm unable to some apps in the market either... I haven't rooted or anything yet. Anyone figure out how to fix this phone so that we can see all apps in the market?
Apparently there are different versions of the market, I only got mine to work after applying metamorphs that had the adverse effect of changing the version I had.

What happens is this, as I've read from another thread: when a company launches a new phone, they tell google about it. Google then updates the market so that if your phone's specs (what version of android it is running, mainly) are capable of running the app you're trying to find, it shows it to you. If Google knows your phone can't run it, it won't let you see the app in the market to avoid you downloading something that you cannot run.
Sometimes Google updates their market database quickly, or sometimes it takes them a long time.... like it apparently is taking for the Vibrant. So it currently doesn't know that the Vibrant is an Eclair 2.1 phone, which supports live wallpapers (some phones running 2.1 don't). It thinks the Vibrant can't use them, so it blocks them.
If there are apps you want, I would suggest getting the APK from a reliable source elsewhere and installing it. For example, last I checked Angry Birds wasn't available on the market, but someone posted a link so that you may download it from elsewhere.
It is kind of strange though because some live wallpapers do show up, and some don't. Apparently though it is all up to Google. There might be a way to modify the identity of your phone to the market so it thinks it is one of the phones that is currently recognized as a phone that can run anything, but I don't know of it, I'm new to the whole mod/root scene.
The application manifest file for an android app can specify all of the supported hardware combinations.
Generally android will refuse to load an app if it can't find a hardware configuration that matches the device.
For example: if all of the configurations listed in the applications manifest file require a d-pad, android will refuse to install it on any device lacking that feature.

Market & QR Codes

Seeing as I am not a fan of bloatware, are there any other apps that can handle the Market:// extension? It's tough finding a direct download for the *.apk's, but I also do not like all the junk involved with the Google Apps.
Is there a median between the two where I can be happy without all the excess junk? I've tried just installing the Market, but it didn't work too well =/.

Titanium Backup -Market Doctor

Some apps i have on my phone i haven't got via the Android Market, lots ive got have been apk's ive got on XDA,etc, etc, what im wondering is, seen as i didn't get these apps from the market if i linked the selected apps to the market through the market doctor what is that supposed to do?
I have the Paddy Power app and Betfair app which were were initially on the Android market but for some bizzare reason Android market decided no betting apps were to be allowed to took them off the market so i went elsewhere and downloaded them and installed via root explorer, there are a couple of paid apps i also downloaded for free not something i usually do but whoever created these apps was taking the p*ss with the price they were charging so i refuse to pay over the odds for an app, taking all this into consideration what (if any) advantage would i have by linking these to the market and more's to the point considering i didn't get any of these particular apps from the market would the apps in question still link to the market?
anyone any ideas?
I would like to know how this goes too since I use SlideME Marketplace for some of my apps, it would be handy if it could all go under the Android marketplace for updating.
Isn't there anyone else with apps on their GS2 that they didn't get from the Android market that they might want to link to the market but are wondering the same?

WARNING: browser hijacking from hidden malware

Today, I turned on my phone to discover a strange new widget/icon on my homescreen that looked like a blue magnifying glass and was labelled 'Search'.
Of course, being suspicious I removed the widget. I then looked through the list of installed widgets and apps, but nothing unusual was there.
Later when I opened the internet browser, the usual google homepage looked a bit different - identical, tabs and all, except for the search button appearing the same as in the widget and the Google logo missing (as if it hadn't loaded yet).
I've reset my homepage to Google, but in my history the bogus sites are:
start.infospace.com
searchmobileonline.com
Scanned with both AVG and Avast, but neither picked anything strange up.
I have since found out that this is adware that some free apps on the Market are using to generate revenue. In my case I have since confirmed it came from Brightest Flashlight Free, an app with over 1 million downloads and 5 star average.
Here's an article explaining it *http://www.pcworld.com/article/245305/sneaky_mobile_ads_invade_android_phones.html*
Just though I'd warn everyone, as I'm a very careful / savvy user and only use very popular, respected apps, but still got it. Personally I think adding phantom widgets and hijacking your browser homepage with a fake google look-a-like is disgusting and bordering on criminal, as no warning or notification is made that this is going to happen, where it came from and how to remove / fix it.

Good call mate! I downloaded the AirPush Detector, AdFree Android, and Addons Detector thats mentioned on the post, and they found some on my SG2.
I will give all offending apps a one star rating, and this will get these dev's to act!!
Thanks
If you're going to give these apps one star ratings, don't forget to put a very scathing review up as well. A single star rating either way isn't going to bother these people much, but if you put a really negative review up as well, it adds a little impact.
In my experience, a brutal review tends to get devs attention fairly quickly, especially those who care about the rep of their apps
... and I wondered from where that magnifying glass appeared on my homescreen.
By the way, the icon sucks
I installed one crappy app from the market but unistalled everything fishy in the moment I saw that icon ...
This has happened to me 2x wish I knew what app it was. I normally only download popular ones too.

I have the magnifying glass too. I didn't notice it at first because I use TWLauncher 4.5 and it only added itself to the stock launcher. I guess its time to do some forum searching or uninstall all my add based apps.
You guys (especially OP) need to use programs like Lookout or ESET and stay away from ****ty apps like AVG (Which is also **** on PC).

personally i feel you should report this app to Google straight. No chances should be given for developers of such nasty lowdown apps.
I personally dont use any of the antivirus stuff but have my host file update for removing ads and use LBE security to block applications access to the internet.
Thanks
Thanks... very usefull information
Installed LBE and now monitoring apps
Thanks for the heads up and the useful apps recommended.
All clean here, but glad I checked.
Further good reasons not go down the pirate route kids - get that Blackmarket and Mobilism app off ya devices
Mobilism app isn't malware.
I use Avast and adaway and they seem to be effective enough although no doubt malaware is a cause for concern.

I'll take your word for it. It allows you to test pro versions or other paid apps, and if you like them, you go to Android's market and buy the "proper" goods.... Sure. That's all right then.
How much does eset cost? Could only see free 30 day trial

That's what I use it for. I like to trial an app properly. If I like, buy from the market, if it's crappy, delete.
The same happened to me, I only realised when a lot of my google searches were US based and not UK. When I clicked on the "privacy" link at the bottom of the Google page (or what I thought was google, it just had a different search icon) it brought up info about a different company, it wasnt the usual google privacy disclaimer.
In the end I think I had to uninstall all the recent apps because I wasnt sure which had done it and had to clear data on the browser to remove it.
My Samsung Galaxy Note has also been invaded by this searchmobile pest and I am looking for a lasting solution, or an app that can identify which app invited the malware. "free iPads" have also appeared annoyingly frequent.

[Q] Leftarmspinner gone

Hey!
There was this guy, Leftarmspinner, who had dozens of LGHome themes in Play Store.
Now I can't find him in Play Store. Anyone got any ideas why he disappeared? Or is my Play Store omitting some results?

I don't know this 'leftarmspinner' guy but I quickly googled some info on his themes and they look a lit like this persons:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=jsvapps
Maybe taken down because they were exactly what this person has?
either that or he probably changed his name/ account?
Hah, indeed. His themes were just like jsvapps'.
Thanks!

Text from the link:
Dear Google developer account Admins,
Facts:
1. Recently Opened Another developer account (So I had 2 developer accounts)As i still do not know If its Ok to have 2 dev accounts or Not. I searched google + other forums and no luck before I opened my 2nd account. So I asked in one of the dev community on reddit and most of them seem it is Ok and some of them already have 2.
2. Why 2 accounts: As i make themes, One (Primary and first one) of account had themes for specific brand of phones and IT WILL NOT WORK on any other launcher than that phone. so I created a different account (2nd account) and created themes for Other famous launchers like Nova, Apex and adw etc etc. Please NOTE that Both the Accounts have different apps... Some of them icons may look like same but one apps doesn't work on other vice versa.
3. But why? Cos most of them looked same as they were themes many times users installed the themes on wrong devices and complained. So I thought of this "great idea" to create to different accounts and separate them and remove confusion. AGAIN BUT Screen Shots might look same but THEY ARE DIFFERENT apps for Different Launchers.
4. Previous offences: Few(about 4)of my themes were made for fans of some sports clubs... So I used the club names in my Theme description and name. So Suddenly one day I got 4 of my themes got suspended. (So i guess four strikes) In one shot. Atleast if they would given a warning or some sort of hint I would never have used their names or anything that sort. But anyway I thought lesson learned.
5. Then finally after everything was going smooth.. my user base was increasing, App sales were going up.. Everything looked like summer after dreadful winter. I Created 2 themes/ 2 apps with same Icons.. One for account 1 (For specific phone, Only works on that phone) and the other one Other launchers like Nova,Apex etc.
I got any email suspending that app on account 1. Saying that I'm spamming.. Generic Email with No details.. So I thought may be b'cos the Names look same (Even though they were different on everything except for 1 word in the name)So I changed the name and Upload again. THAT IS IT! My Complete developer account got suspended. All 19+ apps which were in good standing were gone in a second. Man I was devastated. I tried email the automated email (no reply one) and each time I get the same message (mostly automated) I just wanted to why and what triggered it.. so that I can remove those wording. Also I DID NOT REPEAT THE APPS NAME, NOR I DID NOT USE OTHER APP NAMES in my descriptions. If you see most of my reviews and ratings on that account was clean and people were happy. All MY FREE APPS Do NOT HAVE AD's or Collect Data. PURE FREE. I make a honest buck. all the previous offences were honest mistake As i did not know that I cannot user there club names in Description. And the final Straw had NO violation at all.
My Question: Is it against the developer rules to have 2 accounts? If yes please post if somewhere so that people can know.
2. I posted all my apps with different names on second account with different names. So users who bought them before can no longer download as they showup as new... IT IS NOT FAIR FOR THEM. I MADE FEW OF MY APPS FREE TO COMPENSATE for what has happened. Also Planning To make new themes and make free for the trouble I caused them whether it was my fault or Not. As I tried to refund many using pay-pal etc but unable to keep up with that.
Finally: I would really appreciate if you can re-open my account and Some human can look into this than a machine. I'M READY TO CLOSE MY SECOND ACCOUNT if that was the problem.
Thank you so much.
Leftarmspinner
Anyone got an update to this? I just re-formatted my device and a bunch of the themes I had purchased are now gone. I've gotten burned so many times on paid apps disappearing from the app store I'm starting to second guess spending my money there at all.
