ive been following the ps3 jailbreak for quite awhile and seen some people put up some blogs to earn money for fake ports of the jailbreak
i would love to see this happen for our htc aria but as ive read each port is device specific so im asking you for help
heres the source code for the N900 http://github.com/kakaroto/PSFreedom
would anyone like to port this to our great device? i would definately donate to the person who does
feel free to move this thread as needed

Heyho fellas!
As this is my second post.. and first thread.. I would like to take a second to introduce myself a bit
As my nick states I call myself "Puenos", and after visiting this place for quite a while, I've finally decided to register here too!
Enough chitchat, here's my [Q]:
______________________________
I've recently read quite a lot about ppl asking for a port of WinMo for Android..and after some reading I realised something..
Besides those simple answers asking ppl WHY somebody would want that, most arguments where about how legit it was.. Because WinMo is closed source..
Well... I'm no dev or anything like that.. I'm simple wondering about a few ppl, their ideas and find myself thinking about something abstract myself.. sooo...
QUESTION:
What do you think about ports of
Basilisk II - an Open Source 68k Macintosh emulator
--> There's even a port for Sony PSP and it's quite fun to use it
and before you ask..
AFAIK! Apple provides downloads for the old classic system discs without any charges legally! (correct me if I'm wrong pls..)
Link would be basilisk.cebix.net/
Maemo/MeeGo - an open source, Linux project
-->As Nokia is about to lauch their first MeeGo-Device I would believe it's quite an interesting idea
Link would be meego.com/about
Windows Mobile/Windows Mobile 7
--> Yeahyeah, I know.. closed source and well.. but there are already some Windows Mobile emus on the net I believe? Some even written in Java?
So there would exist a possibility to optimize Android's Java-Engine.. I mean.. the apps converting Java-files to Android-APK for more convient use so it would be possible to port some Java-emus?
I couldn't find the link to the Java-emulator now.. but by searching, I found this:
Link: downloadsquad.com/2008/03/02/microsoft-device-emulator-lets-you-run-windows-mobile-6-on-your/
So there seems to be an application for Windows to be called "Microsoft Device Emulator" which let's you test WinMo-Apps on your PC by emulating a WinMo-Device! Microsoft also seems to provide some ROM-Image to use for this Device Emulator as seen here:
Link: microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=38c46aa8-1dd7-426f-a913-4f370a65a582&DisplayLang=en
Again.. I know WinMo is not open source.. but as Microsoft seems to provide those ROMs.. I wonder if it's legit to use those ROMs to test a self-written or ported emulator for e.g. Android?
x86
Uh... there was a port of Bochs/Qemu for Android some while ago.. but the "port" was rather a proof of concept I think?
There was not much for me to do, using this port I got the same error messages I got using Dosbox, which I thought where problems due to usage of the DOS-environment..which I hoped to escape using this "Bochs/Qemu"-port..
But there's also a Java-emu for x86 architecture...called JPC!
More some kind of proof of concept too, but really interesting! At least for me!
But I somehow don't get along with FreeDOS...and can't seem to boot DSL, even though the applet on their website showed it working... but oh well..
Also, I was wondering if it's possible to run more Linux distros on Android using Bochs/Qemu.. but can't seem to get it to work by now...
Maybe it's just my fault :/

JPC- Java x86 VM: jpc.sourceforge.net/home_home.html

Well... that are my 0.02$.. Again.. I'm not a dev..nor do I have the massive knowledge other ppl have here.. Just thought I share some ideas and hope some ppl might find themself interested in working on something.. not necessaryly ports, stable emus are enough work I believe.. But yeah.. here you go!
Oh and well.. just for the people asking "why would you want that? WinMo/Linux/Whoeva is fo da **** 'n Android is da best, yo!" who seem to be present here..
Why not? This place is called "xda-DEVELOPERS" Why joining a website/community when you're not interested in changing/experimenting?
I believe that some people here should be more open to various things.. If you don't want to change a thing on your device.. why going through the effort even reading some topics here or buy such a versatile phone? Just use your old Nokia and play "snake" and call ppl &write messages!
____
Uh and yeah.. I'm sorry if I did anything wrong.. used "search" and most infos are from this pages.. so I don't really think I've digged something old closed up again... and yeah.. links.. are not links without permission I do not have (new user and such ;3) but I hope the linked pages are alright to be linked.. if not.. I'm sorry guys
______
So... I'm interested in your opinion! What do you guys think?
Hey guys I was hoping you could help me out. Great site here and awesome community. Can someone just simply give me the proper reading material in order to port this? I am trying android developing I use to do some minor developing but never with android, I will have about a year of free time and I was thinking I might as well be productive. Just a start, yes I googled it, and I just get lots of crap of games ported to android not how it was ported. Just some beginner sites would be awesome. I know I can't just port games I need to know android basics just don't know where to look
Maybe here: http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html ?

Help is most definitely welcome.
Hi,
Who can XDAndroid on HTC HD mini developed? I will donate this!
Let me know.......ciao!
Hm, I searched around the forum a little bit. Found this website: http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Main_Page
Could it be possible this just runs on the Mini already? What happens if we install XDandroid on the mini, does it get bricked?
More info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627749
Only one way to find out...
i think there's a chance for a booting device, but won't trust that all the Mini specific drivers are integrated.
So maybe, if you offer a donation, these developers will get over it.
***There have been many threads opened on this topic…and most of them have been merged with this thread. So let’s keep the discussion located on THIS thread…new threads opened on this topic will be closed, deleted or merged without warning. I will donate this project too!
I think there are lot of people who agree to pay for that kind of migration
Keep asking, and there will be result some day
If they really are active on this project and do there best to get a result they will get a donation from me
i will donate too.....
i will donate to this project too!
Me too! donate is a must...
devs plz help us! i will donate too!
I'd donate too!
I'd donate too!
+1..me too
Nice that everybody likes to donate... but I dont think any dev is checking out this thread. I would suggest to read the other forums for similar HTC phones, there is a lot of development going on with Android booting on several different HTC phones. Since the HTC Aria (almost identical to the Mini) runs Android natively, creating a working Android version for the Mini should be relatively easy compared to other phones. But it seems nobody is interested in the Mini.
I´d also donate
I think the release of htc gratia is a challenge from htc to developers. Htc gratia is almost the same as htc hd mini and it runs Android 2.2
This means that it is possible to run android on htc hd mini; however, the developers might not be as smart as the engineers of htc. No offense guys.
i'd donate too!

Has anyone pm'd or posted to ask any of the devs to ask them to get invoved?
I'm only asking cos i dont want to bug them if they have already been asked and not interested.
I was wondering if anyone else who is computer illiterate like me is very interested in learning how to create kernels, roms, themes... and anything else under the sun that deals with android software.
Anyone else interested in becoming a dev like those helping us out with froyo and whatnot?
I'm on Google now... I guess I'm looking for help on where to start. Like from square one... any nice guides you brainiacs could show us noobs?
I wouldn't mind teaching myself from the ground up just by reading internet guides - I enjoy both reading and learning.... I could see myself developing stuff for our community as a fun hobby.
If you would like to help me, think of me as an old man who's never owned a cell phone or a computer till now. That's how far back I'd need to go to learn, I have no experience in computer programming at all.
Since I got my fascinate and stumbled across xda, I've just been, well... fascinated with android and the mechanics behind it all. And the great devs that make this possible for our nice little community here!
So... you other noobs and pros out there wanna help each other out by sharing guides and experiences?
sent from my beast of a phone
Sorry if this is completely irrelevant in every way shape and form, but I'm from a community of people who own Samsung Wave smart phones who would really like to own an Android port due to the horrendous support for Bada by Samsung and complete and total lack of applications.
We have a working Froyo 2.2 port on the device which many have copied to their phones with success. A few developers have worked on it, Olek_k from XDA was working on it, passed it over to Rebellos. However, we currently have no working modem, camera or battery sensor and they are having trouble with Kernel development. Rebellos says that he thinks he's collected enough info to write a modem driver, but he is having problems with the kernel and the project has stalled. We've seen the amazing progress that has been made with this project, being passed down from person to person and there is a huge community of people who would like to experience android on their Bada handsets. I am no developer myself and a lot of us aren't, but the project has stalled and it'd be a real shame for so much progress to be lost. Do you know of anyone or are you yourself a developer of HD2 Android? All of us at badaforums.net and those in the Bada section at XDA are eager to see progress on the project. We do have developers, but they need aid in an area that they do not know well.
Please don't take this as a demanding request, I'm simply asking if you know of anyone who could help compile an android kernel (I'm not sure of the detail you'd have to ask the developers themselves) with the help of the current devs. We'd be hugely greatful if you could co-operate and help us out, because I know many who would absolutely adore android on their crippled Wave smartphones.
I sent a message similar to this to the admin of the Android ROMs site (http://android.hd2roms.com/) to see if they had any ideas about someone who could help. If you didn't know already, the wave is only available outside of the US, I don't know if anyone in the US can help with the development without the phone, you'd have to ask Rebellos or one of the other devs from the topic.
Below are some links where the discussions are;

http://www.badaforums.net/forums/android-porting/porting-android-s8500-wave-t5464.html
I am a noob at XDA and I haven't tried the port myself as of yet, but I love my Wave and no one has made the jump to reach to the awesome HD2 porting community yet, so I thought I'd try.
Please contact me in this topic, via PM, or contact Rebellos or any of the other developers in the topic if you, or someone you know can help out.
Thanks very much, again, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

+1 as a HD2 and Wave user. Help us please!
Damn, no one else has noticed the post :/
Oh well, I'll be patient and just hope that people aren't ignoring the post lol.
Pins, do you know of someone who was at the head of the project? I'm pretty clueless, I'll do some digging.
They will, just give them time.
You might want to consider getting the XDA admin's incharge of the news, to publish this, since this is really going to go un-noticed by the majority of developers. Some good might come out of it. All the best. I remembered waiting (and I am sure many other HD2 users too) for the Android port and then WP7 port for HD2... it seemed like a long wait, but eventually it is done

Yeah man, thanks. I was just being impatient. Really don't want to come off as an arsehole because a lot of people in the bada-android forum got pissed due to trolls, when there are, infact a lot of people who are nice and genuine who are eager to see the port.
And I will have a look to see if I can do that erlern, but do you think they will really listen to someone with like, under 10 posts? xD I mean, they might, but however funny that noob video was, they don't seem to be particularly keen on them. We'll see.
erlern is right maybe its better to write the admins at news
Hi rayze! Erlern is right come to think of it, the admins handling the news section can post about this on the front page.
Also on the title of the post amend it to this "Help needed to build drivers into kernel" then maybe the developers of this thread may pay more attention too.
Also post this on the android development thread of HD2 since this is the Q&A section which has more to do with everyday use of the hd2.

Well someone needed to try to get people's attention
No one else seemed to bother doing it, so I thought, why not. Don't think I've posted in HD2 main yet, but might have. Struggling to remember really.
Oh yeah, no I didn't because I need more posts xD I only have 7 lol.
Unfortunately us Wave modders are probably one of the smallest communities in this entire forum, we might get noticed, but it's getting people to help that will be the highest hurdle. It's a shame really, you'd expect many more people to buy this phone when you can pick it up now at cpw for £99.
I really respect how those developers devote so much time on making better software for our phones, and in most cases they just want a thank you at the end.
I am so happy to see this at the front page of XDA!

Really hope to see Android on Waves! Glad to have contributed in a small way Keep the faith guys!
