Ive downloaded and use Handcent and yes it is nice. The reason I looked for and started using it was because of the lack of add recipient option when composing a new message in the stock app that is included. I feel like Im just missing how to do this in the stock app. Is it possible? It seems like it would be the most basic option but I can't seem to figure out how.

Normally,in the stcok app, after you put the name of the recipient, you just have to tap again inside the recipient box to add another one. else if you put phone number instead of a contact in the phonebook, then you just have to put a comma between the two phone number.
You misunderstood. The idea is that I don't want to have to type in their name. I want to be able to choose from my list of contacts in my phonebook.
I think the only options now are separating recipients with commas or FORWARD the message to another recipient after you have sent it out. I prefer the latter since it doesn't create a whole new thread.
lol is no one actually reading the question???
I haven't come across a way to add recipients, I always just type the 1st 2 letters and add them from that, IMO its easier than scrolling through a list of a few hundred people
Open contact list. Long press contact then select send message. It then opens messaging app.

Seeing as everyone is misunderstanding you're request I will give you the short answer.. No.
You can't select multiple recipients from a list in the stock app, unlike handscent, where you can.

Sorry... where in the question does it mention multiple recipients? I think i did answer the question!

jajajajaaaaaaaaaaaa, LMAO
HAHAHA!!! Best answer ever!!
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do bring up all your contacts in a list when you are sending a text message? I wanted to browse and select a few people out of my contacts but all I could do was add them one by one by typing their contact name.
I would like to be able to browse my contacts and tick off who I want the message to go to.
I don't think you can in the stock messaging app. Try Handcent instead, has a plethora of other features as well.

Is there anyway of making this the default message app?
Come on Google surely we can have better handling of contacts when sending a text message.
I come away from Symbian and Nokia to find a simple feature like this on an advanced phone like the Nexus S is missing. (I could do it on my old Nokia for gods sake)
How can we report stuff like this?
Not sure if you are, but if you're talking about hero or evo, you can click the little person on the right of where you would type the individual names. From there, you can select all recipients or groups

This is where to file a report on complaints/issues. I recommend using it and sharing the link to the report you file so that people may star it; this'll bring as much attention to it to Google as possible. Hopefully then they'll add/fix the feature in future updates. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list?thanks=13414&ts=1293293994
Sorry, I'm using the mobile app, and I can't see which forum this is

Ok thank you I will do that.
Does anyone know how to make Handcent the default messaging App and stop new messages going into the Stock app?
Request Google to add a feature to insert multiple contacts while messaging

Hi!
As I said in the title of the post, on every ICS ROM I use, the main problem is CONTACTS in messages, more precisely when I start to create new message and when I add recipient from Contacts I don't see all Contacts!!! For example, I have 10 people which name start with "Joh...", and when I type that in recipient in MESSAGES, it show me only 3-4 people which name start with "Joh..,"!!!
+1
I would like to know the answer to this myself.

Dunno. With aospx it seems to work fine. When I start to type a name a little scrollable list comes down with options and I just scroll down til I find a name. Then again I don't have tons of just "john"s in my contacts, I tend to add something else so that I know who is who as in "gay john", "johnny cash", etc.

I wish they would test things properly. Try and select text in an email you have received using either the stock email app or gmail, and most likely any other app too. Frigging impossible to select more than one word. Selecting text you have entered, however, in a compose window or in the note app works fine.

thats odd, I just tested it on received emails in both the stock email app and the gmail app and it seems easy enough to me, press and hold anywhere in the text in an email until the little quotation things appear, then drag them to either end of the text you need..

I can confirm that this is happening. Running on rooted stock.
Sony has to address this issue.
Works perfectly in Gmail for me, with both wrapped text and full HTML mails. Sure it's not because of some modification you made?

Select text works fine for me for email app.
Wrap-selecting in chrome works fine too. Just double tap the address you will be able to copy the whole url. It is just impossible if you want to select & copy part of the link only, which i find it rare to do so.

Pasting the entire URL is not the case here, that works.
But wrap-selecting doesn't work in several cases, and the Chrome address bar is just one of many. Coincidentally wrap-selection in Chrome works in official Vanilla Android from google, which makes this a bug.
If you want another nice bug here's one:
Go to developer options.
Set Window Animation, Transition Animation, and Animator Duration to off.
Reboot phone and see if the phone even works. Nothing works.
Go to settings and reset the same options to 1x again. Reboot.
Now you're back to a forcefully animated environment.
EDIT: I have posted both of these bugs on Sony's forum in the Xperia Z bugs / issues noticed thread.

Hmmm. Tried on another few email messages. Completely messed up on some, perfect on others. Yet the ones it messed up on work perfectly on my nexus 4.
Not to mention it was seriously annoying at the time as I was trying to copy a phone number in a signature in the stock email app. While google can recognise phone numbers, and allow a top to bring up the dialer, in gmail but can't be bothered to implement it in the stock email app is beyond annoying. So is the fact that sony can't be bothered to add it like samsung do.
100% stock
Works perfectly fine here
Like I mentioned earlier, it depends on the email. Some work as expected while others are a complete mess.

Hy.
Do anyone know an app, maybe free, that if I lost or stolen my phone the app make pictures with the front camera and send it to an e-mail address or phone number with the current location? And if somebody make pictures/videos/phone call or send a sms, the app automatically (after a SIM card change too) send it to me or a preset address (e-mail/phone number)?
Thanks in advance!
I use an app called gotya unfortunately it's not a free app but it's cheap price on Google play it takes picture of person who tries to get into your phone plus it sends you an email with pic of person plus location very good app and there are other stuff you can do

I use tasker for this. I have created a profile for tasker in this manner- If not connected to home wifi AND if I send it a specific "xxxxxx yyy" message from a certain number, it activates a certain tasker profile. Then it does the following every time someone tries to unlock via pattern lock- take front and rear pictures, turn on gps and mobile data, send pictures and gps coordinates every 25 minutes to a certain number and email. It also does the same routine every time I send it a specific message like say "location update" from a certain number. Once battery level reaches 30%- start backing up data to cloud accounts.
It can be programmed to do more of course lol but that would drain its battery very quickly. Also if someone just pulls out the battery/sim card, puts a new sim card, and then flashes a new rom, there's not much that can be done I guess with tasker or an app..
I like 'where's my droid'
Cerburus is my personal favourite
But these are not free And I do not want to use it via sms. I more prefer the website communication.
Prey.
Edit - You do realise there's a very simple/logical reason why most of these apps use activation SMS's (rather than web based); if I'm a thief & nick someone's phone, the last thing I'm going to do is turn mobile data on, but obviously if I'm going to actually use the phone, I'm going to leave mobile networks on.
I use avg anti virus protection it works great.

Since someone sold my S4 last month and I was careless by not installing any kinda anti-theft or security, i googled a lot about this stuff after buying my new phone. Always set a password/pattern lock for your phone. It not just helps against thieves but also against nosey family members/friends/co-workers, etc. About the free anti-virus/anti-theft app that captures pictures from the front camera as well as the capture location and sends you an email, Lookout Security & Antivirus works just fine. It takes a picture of the person that incorrectly enters your password/pattern more than 3 or so times. It also has a signal flare feature which emails you the location of your phone when the battery is low. For all this to work well though, i suggest turning on your phone's GPS along with the mobile data when you leave your home (assuming you're on wifi there). It might affect your battery life a bit but it's worth it imo. Samsung also has some anti-theft features built in btw. Go in Settings>More>Security and you'll see a 'Find my mobile' tab with Remote Controls and SIM change alert, set them both up asap. Also once you do all this, in the Security settings, go into Device administrators and make sure Android Device Manager and Lookout are both checked. Hopefully this helps you!
Try prey
