Multi-Touch on EVO4G - EVO 4G General

Why is that we don't have multi-touch though the whole phone? I understand the keyboard issue but what about the apps and just general use of the phone it self.

Blame the app makers. They're the ones who chose not to implement it.

be more specific.. what doesnt have multi-touch that you would like to see it in and it would be intuitive in. it is in the gallery, browser, and homescreen, what would you like it to do next?

I think multitouch on the homescreen was added in 2.1. because you can do that pinch zoom to see all 7 screens in senseui

I find multi touch to be in everything I need it in. What pi$$'s me off is the fact that when I am in an email or even on a web page I cant click on text and copy it. What the heck, why in the heck doesnt this work. Where do I go to suggest this to google?

Quit complaining. It's going to be in Gingerbread, and Swype has a text selection feature built in.

Best web browser?

Opera is dreadful on the hero, the basic browser is weak.
Any others to use?
cheers
What exactly is wrong with the built in browser?
I would prefer to see the full page directly, not that zoom. And the scroll should be more reactive and not make the webpage move that much. I prefer the iPhone way, sorry
There is also a problem with some services. I travel a lot and in some hotels I'm not able to log in. When there should be a name/password screen, nothing shows for example. Also some radio stations won't stream.
So if there is an option, I'll try it.
You could try Steel.
I don't like the iPhones broeser. It always has to try and catch up with its self

Really?? What does that even mean? I'm not referring to the bad grammar, but the comment itself? Catch up with itself?
I know what he means, say you start moving around the web page quick it is like the cpu can't keep up and can't load it up fast enough so the web page breaks up then loads when its caught up if that makes any sense.
one other major problem that i have found with teh browser is that it actually changes the code of websites - in particular, it seems to disable file uploads. this is a big problem.

Iphone GS doesn't do that anymore FYI (well almost never I'm sure you could find a site to do it but its significantly, like 98% reduced over the Iphone 3g).

Steel has a nice interface. I like the function of a virtual icon in the corner... no need to press menu to bring in the adress bar...
The only major drawback which made me uninstall the application is the lack of zoom function.

Pictures in Gmail??

I can't believe that even on my beautiful sleek Nexus One, I can't view embedded email pictures. Does anyone know why this is? And if not maybe some one knows how to fix it? This is actually ridiculous if you ask me, its the Gmail app that has been made by Google for a Google operating system on a Google phone but it can't display embedded email pictures? Whats going on here?
It works fine for me... Did you push the "Show Pictures" button near the top of the email?
Sometimes they show up for me. Usually they don't though and I always press 'show pictures'. I love the phone bit its the least of my issues: I can't send mms to any phone bit android, I get 'uportal error' on a common site that the iPhone 3g and 3gs access no problem, and I often get a quarter of an inch of orange load bar when clicking a link in the browser which sometimes is only remedied by a phone reset. I have loved all 3 of my android phones though and Its google we're talking about. They are all about te internet and I trust they are diligently working to improve te average, albeit fast browser experience.
I just read my post and good God this keyboards tough to type on.

I have pressed show picture, all i get is a question mark in a little blue box and i can see the frame of the picture that is spoused to be there. I know im not the only person people. Don't make me feel like im the only one here..
Currently, the gmail app does not support embedded pictures in emails. When you see pictures it's because the person attached the picture to the email. The only way to see embedded pictures in an e-mail on your phone is to log into gmail through the browser. This has been like this since 1.5 and has been submitted to google numerous of times. Hopefully they will fix this problem.

/agree with mgorman.....
Embedded pictures is working just fine in the Gmail app, had some ad-spam from Direct2Drive, Apple, Impulse etc in my inbox just now and they all had embedded pictures. Clicked show pictures and it worked like a charm, this was also over 3g network.
As far as I know I can't take screenshots with an un-rooted phone, so I've attached a picture.

You can use the Android sdk to take pictures of the phone:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Make sure USB debugging is on, plug in phone to PC
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools -> ddms.bat
Not sure what you guys are talking about. Embedded pictures work absolutely flawlessly on my phone
Ah of course via the SDK. Been developing for Android for some time, but I've only been using the emulator since I've been too lazy to actually hook up my phone

do you have astro file manager installed? there is an option in this app that allows you to download otherwise un-downloadable files through the stock browser that makes pictures in email not work (according to the setting in the app itself)

Here is a fix for the jerky zoom in the stock browser!

I do not take credit for this fix. I just came across it on phandroid.com Check this out:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-sup...id-browser-different-pinch-zoom-behavior.html
I hope this helps some of you!
I actually used it and it does help. I didn't notice but now that I did, I'm questioning why I even used the other way
So people don't have to hunt for it:
I was able to disable this annoying zooming behavior on my HTC Incredible with stock Android 2.2/Sense. Here are the steps I went through: Enable debugging options by typing "about:debug" into browser address bar. Then go to Menu > More > Settings. Scroll down to settings under "debug" heading. You should see the option "Enable GEP zoom", and it will be turned off. Turning it on will give you the Google zooming behavior.

Awesome tip, thank you for bringing to my attention.
Agreed great tip!
Dude thanks!
I like that...thanks op. And the other op
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So basically this disables the reflow of text when zooming in the browser. I don't notice a difference in smooth zooming, both on and off it looks the same to me. The difference like I said is reflow of text. I like that function so I will have to leave the setting as off.
it works great, but you have to keep on going into debug mode to use it
Doesn't bring up a menu.. I get a java toolbox. Running fresh.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
This does prevent the reflow of text, but it does fix one annoyance I've had since i got the EVO.
In a modern smartphone browser, the page should follow your fingers as you zoom. So where ever you touch on the page should follow your fingers as you spread/close them. This means that if one finger stays still and the other one moves, the page should stay put under the finger that hasn't moved. This is the way other browsers work and it helps to zoom so that you can expand the page and keep it centered where you want to see. The EVO browser does not work this way. Try it and see. Keep one finger still and the page will still move under the still finger. Grr.. You have to zoom then let go and recenter on the area of interest. However, checking this option makes the zoom work properly this way. This is at the cost of reflowing the text, which I rather like though. So its a tough call which way I would like more.
Anyhow, thanks OP. Nice find
After doing the fix, does anyone have the problem of it reverting back to the old style, even if the box is checked?
Nothing pops up when I type about:config into my browser.

Pushed the updated one to my phone, starts to play the startup sound, then hangs.

Typing about:debug will not pop up anything. It will add new menus in settings.
The changes you do in the debug menu are temporary. The browser goes back to normal settings after its been closed.

Did you try to flash it yourself? I'm going to flash it in a bit...
Edit: It works, just looks ugly as balls, gonna do a little work on it..
Edit2: Im going to take a guess and say that the only thing edited is the debug xml file, so im assuming that if you replace the xml file from our browser.apk with the one from theirs, it should work. im doing that right now.
I personally tried to flash it but got fc.

Wanted: Keyboard with arrows/directional keys

Well since all Android phones have trackpads, arrow keys is not needed. But what about us using HD2? It's annoying when you have to correct a mistake in the previous words. So, any keyboard (better free) that's able to do this? Thanks
Get Ultimate Keyboard. I dont think it's free, but its sooo well worth the dollar or two. Not only does it have arrows, but you can show/hide them and a really great toolbar via gestures. Not only that, but you can customise it to no end, color, key size, layout, it has swype style tracing that you can use if you want to, and when you get it all set up, you can save and export the setup, and restore it on the other builds on your sd card, so you only have to set it up one time. It really is the best, try it and you'll love it. It has every single thing you could possibly want in a keyboard

If you really want this keyboard, and find it worth spending a US Dollar or two (sorry, don't know what that converts to in Indionesian curency), you can install 'Market Enabler' and set your market's region to USA.
Probably not worth all the fuss, if all you want is arrow keys.
I'm pretty sure there are Sense builds available with the HTC IME keyboard that have the arrow keys by default.
But I figured I'd tell you all the options.

Browser click notification

I have a pet peev with the browser for the Transformer, when you click on something in the webpage you don't see the thing you are clicking on. Many other mobile browsers will put a box on the item or even color in the text field, but the TF doesn't do any of that, nor does it have a sound.
Am I missing something here? Perhaps a setting you can configure?
Bump, does anyone know what I'm talking about? When you tap on a hyperlink it doesn't show any visual cues that let you know what you're clicking on.
