I wanted to know if anyone of the great ROM-Cookers or somebody else is working on porting the Kaiser 3D drivers to our polaris?
No driver port yet, moderator attention required !!
There are few threads out there on this topic. I even asked udK if he has the skills and time to implement this into his ROMs ... waiting for his reply.
I also wanted to start a poll on Donation for Kaiser's video driver port, but noone seems to second that, yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2446896&postcount=628
Please check here for Polaris Video Driver Issue

This thread is way too long to get appropriate attention ... we should start a new one and hope for a moderator to make ist sticky in order to get more attention.
it got an update right now for fullscreen on Kaiser !!!

hi,
i support you in any way, but
first of all it makes more sense to let the developers finish the drivers for the kaiser, as there is no official 6.1 update for the polaris yet.
the fully drivers takes more time to develop and as soon as they got nearly finished, its maybe the time the polaris gets its official 6.1 update.
the official update is somewhen in august expected.
this is a developers forum and you can do with your time what you want, so feel free to investigate time in porting the htcclassaction.org driverset to polaris.
dont forget to contribute some respect for the real developers behind the drivers.

i try to report it updates as fast as possible. its a sticky. all who are intresetd in this issue to solve can read.
threads gets long if its popular and since no developer took the initiative to make the driver compatible with the polaris i will further report the kaiser status.
Thanks for your reply manaaa
Thank you for your reply and also especially for updating your thread on this issue

You as a senior member probably know much more on this development than any other Polaris user within this forum.
You are perfectly right on letting the developers finish for the Kaiser first. Do you have close connections to the original developers or do you update from the Kaiser forum? I do have serious respect for these developers.
The thing is users get really confused and contents get obscured/not managable to follow up on this in different sub-forums. That is why a sticky thread in "Polaris upgrading etc." section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=399 is useful from my perspective.
I tried to forward other threads towards yours. However this really needs a developer/ moderator attention.
Unfortunately my coding skills are not good enough for really contributing to this except trying to focus and channel the requests to get a critical mass towards this.
The drivers from Kaiser Forums are not working with the official Polaris (o2 orbit 2) WM 6.1 ROM!!!!
A member of the ppc-welt.info community had access to the offical beta of the polaris ROM and he tested the driver version from the 22. of july.
I hope the version from the 29. July will work!!!
thanks
P.S. do you think porting will be made by a cooker or can only the guys from htcclass.org port it to our polaris?
Any news about it?

hi,
sure it would be better to open a single thread that has the port-from-kaiser attention.
i'm actually just keeping you updated in the general polaris forum.
i'm in no relation with the real developers behind these drivers, but as an informatics student i recommend to wait for a full driver they develope. i for my own dont want to re-invent the wheel while modifying.. but in other aspect it could maybe help the real developers.
in the case there are some genius polaris developers out there and want to look into the issue kaiser-port..feel free to share your knowledge!
as nushrike answered me .. 'get a ddi from kaiser working' then it could/would/should work. but that is cooker-related.
i for my own tried to cook some stuff and it made me nuts sometimes. im just too busy to investigate more time in it. as a sidenote, you may see some usefull app with alot features in the hacking and development section soon. but even this lil project has no priority.
im aware of the beta-tester in the german ppc community and asked chainfire for what files we would need to look into, but no response yet.
Please stop bugging the devs on the IRC channel. After reading the logs, I see more NON DEV questions interrupting the devs from making progress. If you have a question take it to the CHAT channel or ask here in the appropriate thread of XDA.
The reason I posted this is that the IRC channel has almost came to a halt today. I think the DEVS have had it with all the lazy questions. By lazy I mean they are too lazy to google/search for their errors.
Stop bugging them, please. I'm sure everyone would love GPS, louder sounds, better power management, faster 3G/Edge data, no freeze's/ BSOD, GSOD, WSOD etc. If your like me, then you also want all this working.
Please post your questions here or the thread where you downloaded the port.
I'll try my best to answer questions if it free's up time for the very smart miracle workers to make progress.
Fire away with your questions and I will try to help here not the IRC channels.
Can't say it with better words.
Thanks noellenchris.
If we want this development to continue at the current pace,
Please, let the devs work in peace.
Thanks.
Another post to be ignored by those who offend. Sadly.
I see what ur trying to do here noellenchris and stand behind u but i hate to tell ya that the noobs who r gonna go spam the irc channel/other threads with stupid questions/comments, are just gonna ignore this thread. They see Please read first, they ignore first lol
isnt this what happened with the original thread and still there are atleast 15 ppl asking the same damn question or reporting the same known issue over and over.
Good luck my friend and hope some ppl dont ruin it for everyone else.
Good post. I think we just need to have more ops in #htc-linux to simply kick the people out that ask stupid questions with a message, "Join #htc-linux-chat and ask your questions there." I idle there all the time and both chats have been dead for like 3 days because of the dumb people who don't know what search is.
Unfortunately I think this is a problem with having forums which are accessible to both developers and end users. Noobs don't understand the process of development. What would be good is if there was a two tier system wherein you had to earn respect to post in the useful forums and a low level forum for noobs where you earn that respect. Hmmmm.....

I agree with you, a separation of some would be ideal especially on a 'karma' basis! This encourages the new posters to actually READ some stuff.. but it would be terrible to the open-ness of the XDA forum.
Then again, having mods filter through these new threads to filter rubbish and default questions also is time consuming enough.
Good post mate. Unfortunately this situation is not unfamiliar - let's be honest here, the devs should have expected this to happen, android on HD2 is a popular topic and will attract a fair number of people who have no idea of the etiquette involved.
I dunno if there is a good way forward, but I would recommend that devs ignore the hell out of people asking the same question repeatedly, if possible just boot them from irc without hesitation, and when people do the same on forum threads we should quickly interject with a request for them to search. I know that noobs come here all the time and ask dumb questions, and there are many instances of people getting all upset because they have been told to use the search function, but hopefully if we can do that then the message might start to get through.
Seems unlikely though ... unfortunately the world appears to be full of people with little or no patience, little or nor understanding or desire to learn for themselves, and little respect for the work put it by others.

All they need to do, is what I've been doing.. keep up to the minute, by reading this logs: http://irclog.netripper.com/?chan=htc-linux
Alternately, they have been provided with limited access to the devs in the #htc-linux-chat channel. Many of the devs will take time away from development to answer questions.
Refresh to your heart's content, and you'll see the latest and greatest.
If you join the channel to get this information, it's just too easy to want to become part of the banter.
Btw, they know their work is appreciated (show it in a donation some time.. these guys are putting in hundreds of hours each over this port). Please do not flood their dev channel just to say "thanks". That channel's history is used for a referenced standard for future ports... You guys are killing that valuable tool.
I think there are a large handful of non-devs who are bothering the devs (it is VERY obvious, reading the logs), but feel that since they've been there so long bothering them, that it's okay for them to continue... I almost want to list names for these pests... maybe we ought to do that?
LOL notice the only people responding to this thread are people that actually read what's going on. I agree with the OP whole heartedly, but it won't stop anything. If they are too lazy to read the first post of a thread to get infomation they won't stop here to read this IMHO.

Actually the reason why I open this thread is wanna remind all the users in the forum...Please just don't waiting for new builds everyday and forget the developers that do coding behind the scene...without their works, there is no android chef or build until now...Although htc linux devs are not working on this for donation...however,hope everyone here...can contribute anything to them: appreacition, gratitude,or maybe pennies...

Development thread for Linux on the HTC HD2
PLEASE READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS
Introduction:
To run any Linux based user space on a device -this includes android, debian, ubuntu, openembedded, etc- you need a working Linux kernel.
This thread discusses the development on Linux kernel and user space on the HTC HD2.
All android ports to windows phones are based on the efforts of porting the Linux kernel to these devices. This is what all the porting is about. Nobody is porting Google Android to these phones. It works already.
Contributing:
This is not a secret club. All source code and development information is publicly available. Everybody who is willing to contribute is free to join the development process.
People working on porting Linux to HD2:
You can donate to the developers putting a lot of time into this Linux kernel port.

Hi,mate..thanks for your support...haha...nevermind just keep this thread open...Since there are many new users in this forum, hope they can understand how hard to port a non-native OS to a device...It is much harder than cooking a rom...and i heard that Dcordes said he maybe gonna release his own build...don't know how it gonna looks like...finger crossed...thats gonna be awesome...
I do hate people that assume the devs just sit behind their PC's 24/7 working on this, they have a life, let them do it at their own pace.
On another note, whats the main language they have to code in?

kernel is the most important part in the development progress but cooking is also important

Good job..mate...haha,I'm busy recently, thats why I dont have time to link the donation link to here...thanks a lot...
There are many users making builds and I believe we should try many different builds. Even if we can't make donations we can give recognition, feedback and praise to the people for their hard work. Chefs do this for a hobby and I believe that some recognition goes a long way.
no we do not want "many different builds" because this is just a confusion for everyone! instead everything should be in 1 maybe 2 builds of 2.2 froyo with different home screen options. now anyone with 1 hour of free time can make a build that is EXACTLY the same as the one before or outdated, just it doesnt have battery widget or twitter app. Thats sucks!
Also updating first post would be convinient since you (Sylau90) "do not let" other ppl to make new threads. Also thread title sucks.

If you ended up to this thread by just clicking on it, because you thought, it has got something to do with HTC HD2 NAND or New Keyboard, I am really sorry and I do apologize to you.
The only reason I have created this thread is because the way one of the HD2 forum moderators have just deleted a thread I created out of the blue! I could not find who, how and when deleted my thread but it's gone!
I don't just find it unjust but I also found it ridiculously childish behaviour! I nudge or a PM would have made better sense before deleting!
The OLD Thread that is now deleted din't do any flaming or spamming either! All I had asked was If any HTC HD2 developer would be willing to help us lot in TG01 forum in developing Android kernel, the way they helped out here. I din't post it in ROM thread or any other forum. I posted that thread in 'general Q&A' as that was where it fitted the best.
DEAR MODERATOR BEFORE YOU DELETE THIS THREAD AS WELL:
If you read any of this (unlike earlier thread) please CONTACT ME first! Deleting thread only because it's title said TG01 doesn't mean I am stupid enough to write TG01 query in HD2 forum! I have created this thread with HD2 and NAND in title - so that themoderator who can't even be bothered to read into the content will NOT delete this as the title relates to HD2!
To all the users who come to this thread:
I ONLY APPEAL to please be at my place and see this situation! I am not intending to flame, spam or anything! I wanted to ask for help from all HD2 developers so that our android development in TG01 forum which has paused right now due to lack of help and guidance can go forward. After all I thought XDA was all about helping each other out!
I again apologize to all users! I am not writing this thread to cause you any inconvenience. The old thread, had correct title and correct format of posting into XDA forums. I had followed all rules. Only because I asked for help for TG01 forum and not for HD2, it was deleted! Where else can I ask for help from ALL developers at HD2? Can't be sending PMs to hundreds of you lot - that would be spamming!!
Hey
Have you tried sending out just a few pm's to hd2 chefs, maybe someone will point you in the right direction,
also have you also tried the irc channels since your query is a dev related

Thanks a lot for the response!
Since I wasn't sure who the hd2 chefs are - I couldn't PM them. If you please guide me towards profiles of chefs involved in android port to HD2, I will PM them and see if they are interested in helping us out.
Also, am new to IRC. How do I go about that as well?
Once again, thanks for the answer, and I hope the mods don't delete this thread again before I get some help

Hey
Some of the main devs behind the actual HD2 Android port were Cotulla, dcordes, NetRipper, LeTama, Markinus, just to name a few, though i doubt you will get much response (with maybe 1 exception)
As for HD2 chefs, its a bit worrying to hear you say you're not sure who they are, they're fairly easy to find...
head over to the HD2 Android NAND Development sub forum & look at the author of the threads, if he/ she states its their build/rom, there is your HD2 Chef
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040273
its not for me to suggest any names, just take a random pick, most seem friendly enough someone might able to give you some pointers.
have to say tho, really cant understand why you dont sell up & just buy a dedicated android or if you want something to tinker with, why not a HD2 (it is starting to show its age tho).
Anyways, Goodluck

Thank you very much for this answer! It helps a lot!
I am not a chef for HD2 forum roms. I mainly interact in TG01 forums. Hardly pop-in to these forums. Hence had no idea who is very active developer out here. But now the tast seems easier to contact them.
The reason I din't want to sell up (and mostly others out there too) is the contracts. We are tied up in 18-24 months contracts and as much as we hate the bloated OS that our respective carriers have put on this nice piece of hardware, we do want to explore the development on this device to it's max. Hence we were trying to see if someone could help us take the stalled development further on Android.
Most likely TG01 owner might move to android or WP7 in next 6-8 months and then the community might be dead, but android development on this device will bring a new life to enthusiasm

+ 10 my friend
Hello friends! I created this thread to make a proposal to the dev's and cookers ...
Well, what I mean is that we have bright developers of ROMs for our XPERIA X8
I think most of them work on your own ROMs, without the assistance of anyone (I'm NOT saying they are not able to cook a ROM)
What I mean is that I think that all the dev's of X8 ROM's (as racht, doixanh or AnDyX), cookers (like ME!) and designers (like AChep) come together and form a team, so to create an all-new custom ROM with the help and idea of all users of the Xperia X8!
The forum is for everyone to share their ideas and how they can help in the development of custom ROMs for our devices, and I believe that together we can create a perfect ROM!
That's the idea and proposed to you all, developers of ROMs of our Xperia X8 ...
I think it's a good idea!
Who agrees with me?
Remember: In unity is strength!
It sounds good in theory but I doubt they will work on a single rom. As far as I see it, racht likes gingerbread and has abandoned his floyo rom, but dx likes froyo so he started adding things from gingerbread for users to have a better experience while using it. One thing that I know for certain, if someone manages to find a fix for a problem in any rom I am sure they will share their work with others, because that's why they use these forums.
As for jerpelea he seems to focus more on the X10, which will get official gingerbread update, instead on X8 and that saddens me abit, but is his time to spend and he can do whatever he wants with it... AnDyX has done 2 modules but no rom so maybe ask him to make a rom from scratch by using knowledge gained from other devs.
I do not mean to them that I quoted ...
I refer to ALL's dev ...
I think if all agree to try to do this, we must settle on which Android will be based (Whether it will be 2.3 or 2.2, whatever), but I think that discussion is for later ...
My proposal is that all ideas come together and share their knowledge so that all interested members to create a fully-working near perfect ROM
This is my proposal and idea ...If anyone can understand me...

I do not say that this not a good idea... but it's very-very difficult to work with someone else over the same project. I have never work over roms for phone but from my knowledge as a programmer i can say that it may be better working like now...
I was working with a programmer over a firefox addon (like the way you say) but it was very difficult. I was forced to inform him about everything i did, so to let him know what he should do. I started keeping notes and made a program lol...
You must be very consistent too do this...
I wish our devs have the time to set up such a project...
great idea, but... We only need to know if our devs agree with that..

I feel the same way. It is very difficult to work with multiple people at the same project, each in a different place. Everyone should have from time to time the exact same code and this would necessarily mean working in shifts and not in a team.
What I see much more easy to do is try to understand what features should have the "perfect rom", such as it is doing doixanh for froyobread, posting polls and seeing what the majority prefers.
We could start with topics such as: 1) froyo base vs. gingerbread base, 2) favorite launcher, 3) basic applications preinstalled .. etc etc. ..
Then we might ask a developer to take charge of the project and prepare the ROM. As an incentive we can provide some donation, if at the end of the project will be many users of the forum to participate, there won't be too hard to put together a little cash I think.
What do you think? Could it be possible?
While I won't downplay this idea, because it does have its merit, this would be VERY hard to achieve. Devs would need to communicate everything they did to eachother, which could prove difficult. However what we COULD do is designate assignments for a specific dev. For example:
Doixanh - Porting Gingerbread features to Froyo and performance
Jerpelea & Blagus - Cracking the bootloader
And so on, so forth. Publish all the work in Google Code or Github to make easily accessible for the whole community.
This to me seems the only really viable way to go...
well I hope so !! really they are the betters and could pass something nice
So typical.
All i see are random members saying that it can't be done or that it is so hard to achieve.
Why can't you wait for devs to answer for themselves?
...I agree with all that this is difficult but... I think that the are already work in a team... xda devs' team... they already help each other enought.
First of all, this thread belongs to Genreal section.
Now on-topic:
I don't see any usefullness from this idea.
1st Devs are helping each other anyway for sure
2nd.. 2nddd?!?!?! :O
Oh, yeah... there's no second.
Point is:
Example: doixanh is stuck at something when making froyobread.. he will ask someone for tip...
racht hackdroid has camera disabled... kuya will fix it (altough he's a cooker, not dev I suppose)
You got it??
Apps preistalled, default launcher... install your favorites by yourself you lazyasses
if OP want it like cyanogenmod,
than it is freexperia project.
I don't see it working.
btw, yes, I'm not a "dev", I like and always be a newbie
Theres already a project like that, it is FreeXperia project, i suppose everyone already know that.
The point is, we should just continue that project, if someone already have a well programming knowledge, then they should just help that project, creating the libs for X8 to be used for 2.3+ Android version later.
that's good idea, newbie like me very happy to hear it
That's a good idea, but i think that we'll have more progress about a Cyanogen 7 rom soon enough.
