Did anyone ever find a fix to the usb problem some epics have? Every time I plug my phone into any type of computer, it will work for the first time I plug in, but if I unplug it and plug it back in, my computer says usb device not recognized. This also happens in my BMW, it let me listen to music through the usb once, and that was it, now it doesn't even read it. I've heard of others with this problem, but I haven't seen anyone fix it. I don't have Sprint's insurance, so I don't know how things go towards getting a replacement. I also tried downloading an app to automatically mount when usb is connected, but no dice. I have tried different microsd cards too but same problem.

i only have this issue on damn dell computers it seems, i dont think there is a fix, however what i do to get it to recognize is just unplus both the connector to the phone and the usb from the computer, and then it registers finally.. Its very annoying but it will work, just try that, i hate that but only have issues on dell, my 2 HP's work great with connectng
Changing the micro usb cable also helps. The one that came with the phone is garbage. I personally use the cable from my evo

Did you put the zoom in USB debug mode? settings/applications/developement check USB debugging
Yes, the icon is in bottom right
I think my xoom may have a problem or two...when using hdmi out watching videos then playing games....it just shut off, twice it did this and both around 5 mins of using hdmi. Now swyping through the screen is really slow...

I will confirm if the HDMI problem is usual, cause I know people have been having problems with that, I will be getting my HDMI cable in the mail soon, will let you know. I have sometimes experienced slow downs on mine as well. Have you tried formatting the Xoom?

The USB port is very weak on my Xoom (and others, I've read). You need to plug the USB cable into a MOTHERBOARD MOUNTED USB port to make it work reliably. Using a front panel USB port, or any other port that is cabled off of the motherboard, can cause problems.
I personnaly mount my xoom into the front panel USB port and have had no problems with it so far.
i too use the USB ports on the front of my tower and it works fine...
My USB cable that came with it was the problem, used a different one and it was transfering fine

Hi everyone,
My Nexus 7 at present isn't getting recognised when connected to a PC via USB. This was working the other week (the drivers were installed the first time I connected it via USB), but now when I connect it to a PC via USB the device isn't recognised by the PC.
I have tried this on multiple PC's and the same thing happens on all of them, so it must be something with the Nexus 7 that is causing the problem.
If I go into Device Manager on any of the PC's, with the Nexus 7 connected via USB it doesn't appear anywhere, so I can't go down the route of even updating the USB drivers as suggested for some similar issues on other threads.
I have even installed the Android SDK and installed the Windows USB driver package, but that hasn't done the trick either.
I have also tried installing the Microsoft MTP porting kit, but again this made no difference and the same can be said by switching between MTP and PTP mode and neither have made a difference. I don't have USB debugging enabled, enabling it doesn't make a difference either.
I can connect my Nexus S phone via USB without issue to any of the PC's I've tested the Nexus 7 on, which further backs my thinking of the issue being with the Nexus 7.
I'm running out of ideas, so thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone has any other suggestions before I do a factory reset on the Nexus 7.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Further to this I have done a factory reset, which has made no difference.
Any ideas other than going back to Google or Asus?
my N7 has trouble being recognized by different PCs. it is hit and miss. will your N7 charge when it's connected to a PC that doesn't recognize it? my N7 does not show the charging symbol on screen, but the battery percentage increases over time.
Also try a different cable just in case.

I've tried different cables, which makes no difference.
It's looking like a hardware fault of some sort as a factory reset made no difference. Think I will have no option to go back to Google/Asus

Try connecting it as a PTP device rather than MTP.. (that sometimes works for me when I am trying to force it to pick up the ADB device and install driver etc). If it detects it as PTP change it back (to MTP), and hopefully it will be OK.

I had already tried that, makes no difference unfortunately.
I had the same problem.
I knew it was driver issue but where to find the driver?? Looked on Asus' site and apparently the Nexus 7 is the Asus unwanted step-child. Not a mention of it there.
After a lot of looking and a lot of cursing,I found the answer! (It was the cursing that helped!) Install Windows Media Player v13. The needed driver is included. After a reboot, I was able to see the Nexus 7 on my PC and (more importantly) able to transfer files to it!
What happened
I have had the same problem with it not connecting. My n7 does charge when I plug it in but does not show up in my computer when i plug it in via usb. I have tried switching it to PTP mode but it does not find the device for what I'm doing(unlocking boot loader for my nexus 7) I hope someone can help greatly appreciated.

Hi, my computer came with Windows Media Player on it. It does not specify the version. I cannot find Windows Media Player v13 anywhere. Would someone please provide a link if possible. Thank You So Much!
USB Connection To PC Not Detected
Having the same issue here. These two guys as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851868&highlight=usb+connected Did you also use a car charger? Don't know when it happened for me, but sometime between it last working and testing car chargers it stopped working. Same thing for me as one of the posters says, USB-OTG works, so I would think it's not a physical issue, but how to reset it. Dunno, Any help would be appreciated.
ADB, Fastboot, or USB Connected device in Windows does not work. Computer doesn't even detect, no USB connect sound.
UPDATE:
Installed Glazed Jellybean v.1.1.2 thinking it might clearup the issues with detection of USB and presenting it to the PC. Still same results, USB data connectivity is missing somehow. Just might be some sort of physical damage. Kernel was updated as well to Linaro Motley Kernel v1.1.1.
Help!
I had this happen after using a car charger from amazon. I actually really believe that the charger is the problem, as I had originally got the charger for my recently departed tf101, and after using the charger on that, same problem as what's happening with my n7. Sure, there's workarounds, but it'd be nice to connect to pc for faster transfers.

Same As Above... This sucks.
I am having the exact same problems listed previously & I've tried almost all the same fix attempts with no luck. Like a couple others, mine worked out of the box, then I charged it in my car (using the Nexus 7 cable plugged in to a USB cigarette lighter adapter)... Now, nothing but the indication on the Nexus that it's charging. No indication at all that the computer is even aware a device is plugged in to it. Has anyone found anything? Please, Lord, say it's so!!
I found a fix
Whether this will work for everyone I am not sure.
I took the USB from the hub I was using & plugged it into one of the front ports on the actual tower unit. The drivers were reinstalled and everything is working again.
It may be the Nexus didn't like the hub or it may be that particular USB port threw a wobbler.

Thanks, but I've plugged my N7 in to 15+ usb ports on 3 different PCs & haven't gotten anywhere. No changes.
I did call ASUS support yesterday & was told by the tech support person that they were working on a "PC SYNC" software for the N7, but did not have a release date for it yet. I'm not very optimistic. The tech sounded like she could have been reading from a script. Didn't sound as if she knew what she was talking about. I may take my N7 back & get a replacement.

Hey, do you remember what charger you used? I tried two from Amazon, so I can't tell which one gave me the problems. Here they are:
Arcadia Rapiduo, 10W 5V/2A Dual Port high-speed USB car charger w/ Free Full Speed Micro-USB Charging Cable (IMP80C)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00845NI8E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
and
PowerGen Dual USB Port 2A 10w (fast) Heavy Duty Ouput Car Charger - White
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00622AG6S/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
Hell, if there are several of us that have damaged devices from these chargers maybe Amazon would help us to get our Nexus replaced.

It was this one at first, then I complained it didn't work, and they sent one that could've come from their own car, the way it looked.
And yes, I know it says "for Asus tf101".
Perhaps there's a "safety switch" of some sort, written into the os, that "shuts down" the ability to communicate through usb after using these car chargers? That may sound stupid, i know.
I don't think it's a pc problem, since the n7 still charges when connected, and also, because this has happened twice to me, with both my tf101 and my n7,directly after using these car chargers.
And, for some reason, I don't believe it has caused hardware damage to the n7. I kind of believe what I said in the first paragraph. Maybe this will happen to a dev, and they will look into the problem.
I suppose rma is an option, but patience is not my strong point.

I have 3 computers and 2 Nexus 7 in household, and one N7 has no problem being recognized by computers and the second N7 wont connect as a MTP device at all, on any computer, with many different cable and port combos. The second N7 was bought just a few days ago and I was not going to root and leave a virgin device, so it was essential to have access to sdcard with computer as storage device. Looks like I am taking it back for replacement...which is a shame because other than usb problem the second N7 was a perfect C70...my first N7 C70 has a minor screen lift, and after comparing the two tabs side by side, a slightly more washed out display.

This was my thoughts as well, thought some of the system files were altered in someway by either that process or my installing usb related apps. USB OTG and USB monitoring apps specifically. However, I decided to try an load Glazed Jelly Bean hoping it would resolve this issue by rewriting the system files, but it was still broken. This has now changed from a connectivity issue to a totally dead unit for me, it slowly started refusing to give a full charge and now not even a response while plugged into an AC Charger.

Hello, struggling to find anything similar to the issue I am having, sure one of you more tech savvy folk could help.
My car a 10 plate golf has a built in media port through which I can charge and use my media devices, however since receiving my S3 I cannot get it to work. The in car system display states 'media device not recognised.'
To work around this I bought an aux jack to jack and plugged in to it that way and this works fine whilst the phone is disconnected. However when I connect the phone to the usb to charge, it automatically defaults to media device not recognised and disconnects the aux.
My old phone had the same issue (HTC desire) however this could be set to usb charge only which would prevent the car system from trying to use it as a media device simply providing charge.
However, I do not appear to have this option on my shiny S3.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could work around this? I do not really want to charge the phone using the cigarette lighter socket as this has fried other devices in the past.
Many thanks.

Hi, just so you know this isnt the S3 forum, it is the galaxy 3 forum, however I know the problem you are referring to and it happens because "charge only" support was removed from ICS onwards unfortunately. There are apps out there designed to get around this, so far Ive not actually found one that works. I would suggest posting your question in the S3 Section and the general android section as you are more likely to get an answer as and when someone comes up with a fix. hope that answers your question, sorry I couldnt be more help.
This is getting frustrating. Have the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 completely stock in black. My girlfriend has the white one. We can't connect either one via USB to transfer songs and such. So far I've installed the driver, reinstalled them, formatted and did it all over again with no luck. The computer just continues to make the noise that it does when you connect a USB device. Sometimes it'll do it 20 times in a row or so. Never successfully recognizes the device.
This is my first time having this type of issue with an Android although I've never owned a Samsung before. Mostly HTC devices. Any help would be appreciated. I've done searches on the forum and didn't have much luck.
Q: How do I connect my S4 to the computer so I can transfer some songs to it.
If you end up rooting your s4 usb mass storage enabler on the market helped me get my tablet to recognize my s4. Other than that I'm not sure why your computer isn't recognizing it. Good luck!

If you have any drivers from previous phones try uninstalling them. Even htc sync has caused problems in the past. I'm no expert by any means but I've troubleshooted plenty.

Try a different cable and definitely try a different USB port. Sometimes windows gets messed up and won't accept a new device on the same port.

Tried that. Even reformatted. I've been through about 5 cables. I doubt that's the issue. I actually reformatted again last night.
I use Airdroid for all of my file transfers. It's fast but requires wifi.

This has been my only issue with S4. Kind of frustrating but I know there has to be a solution to transfer files via usb. I almost wonder if it has something to do with my hardware. It's pretty standard though.

Ok so an update on this issue. Still haven't came up with a solution.
Since my last post we've moved from Sprint to T-Mobile. Decided to stick with the S4. New phone with the sane exact issue. Reformatted, reinstalled drivers.
She also got a new laptop and wouldn't you know it both phones work perfect without installing drivers or anything.
I'd really like to track this down so I'm going to give as much detail as possible.
Both phones are stock.
Both work on her laptop. Neither will work with my PC.
I've gone to thr device manager and manually updated the driver. The comp recognizes my phone by name. On a good day I can browse. It'll still randomly reconnect so transfers are impossible.
The computer has 8 usb 2.0 ports. I've tried them all. We have quite a few micro usb cables. Tried them all.
It still feels like a driver issue. Possibly some kind of issue with my motherboard? Why haven't I had an issue with anything else? Would a dedicated usb card make a difference?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
