Samsung new task manager??? - Galaxy S I9000 General

It would appear for the second time today that updating the Samsung Task manager on JPC Froyo has given me the black screen with illuminated buttons.
This afternoon I thought I had trashed my set up after moving Root Explorer to SD card. I recall that at the same time I updated all available Samsung Apps including the Task Manager, but it would now appear that the Root Explorer was not the cause.
5+ hours later after getting everything restored the last thing I did was update task manager, I did I restart as I got stuck in a google internet loop, and I'm stuck with a blank screen.
Samsung, be afraid, very afraid, because if I find out for a third time in an hour or so that your new task manager is NAFF i will personally come and nuke your new 3D island.
All this on a Kies 2.2 with RyanZA lag and rooted UK VOD SGS
Looks like I'm up for the night now, will do the task manager update 1st and report back.
Update: After a format sd, clear cache, and reset and set up updated samsung apps' and its died again.

Task Manager update works perfectly fine on 2.1 for me.
You're using 2.2 which isn't official yet. It's bound to have bugs in it.
And you're threatening to nuke Samsung's '3D island'
*rolls eyes*

OP, JPC is still in beta, plus you have additional tweaks to your system. Why go nuke them?
P/S: THAT Task Manager in Samsung Apps is meant for official ROM!! And it is for eclair 2.1, look at the 4 images.
Edit: JPC already provided with the Task Manager. It is called JobManager.apk.

Oh boohoo, it's a leaked pre-release.. I wish people would stop complaining about issues with pre-releases. The only good reason for using Froyo currently is if you need the API's. It isn't production ready, and you shouldn't even be surprised if you dial a number and your phone calls a sex-line instead.
And, you aren't even using the leaked pre-release, but a hacked up copy. ONLY USE FROYO IF YOU ARE DEVELOPING FOR IT!!

Live and learn, like many before me ... and I'm pretty sure, many behind me.

If you do a quick search you will fins I have posted about this in a couple of places.
The Samsung App Market looks at your system version and only displays apps that are (supposed to be) compatible with it. So yes we (2.2 users) should mention this as a bug.

Apps Starting Randomly After 2.2 Push

Ok, I use the Advanced Task Killer by Rechild.
Before the update a few apps would show up that I'm sure I started using various things.
After the update I'm getting apps on the 'kill' list that I never got before. Things that just keep starting by themselves like The Weather Channel for example. I have never had that come up until I pushed the update today.
Does not seem like a prudent way to conserve battery life as they advertise.. or am I insane?
for me, skype mobile always starts up by itself.
Me too. I'm getting Skype and the market every couple of minutes. I have noticed an improvement by uninstalling ATK and reinstalling it. Clears out your ignore list though when you do that. I want Skype off my phone. Period. I don't like it and won't use it. I'm not rooted and no plans to do so either.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
With root, I moved Skype, CityID and a few other apps I don't plan on ever using out of the way and they are no longer an issue. Simply don't exist.
Took all of about 10 mins to locate, select and move them.
Not sure what the phobia is about rooting the device. Simply makes doing something possible and others easier.
I've also noticed a lot of different apps starting up on task killer after 2.2 ota. For the several months I ran 2.1 and task killer (with mostly the same apps) I never saw them start up randomly like this.

I already did the 2.2 update (unrooted before) and now am looking forward to when a stock 2.2 device can be rooted so I can do these things. I didn't have a phobia prior to, I just didn't have the need. Now, with the Skype and VZN and all the other crap that came with VZWs 2.2, I want it to get rid of it.
Can't wait til 2.2 is rooted...
Personally I do not use a task killer because Android alone does an amazing job of allocating memory. Also, I believe that Google gimped most of the task killers powers in Android 2.2. Here is a good read from the Google devs and their view on running apps.

some issues that are bugging me...need your input

hey guys. i'm a very nitpicky person and there has been a few "issues" that have been ticking at me lately. i wanted to ask to see if it's an issue with my rom (OMJ v3.1 odex) or just general issues with the phone that I have to live with.
1) for a 1ghz phone, it takes FOREVER to load. i'm usually anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds on the splash screen, after which the boot animation plays and maybe 10-15 seconds after the animation ends the phone starts to load....but it goes into the lock screen, and i have to unlock it, and then a million things start opening up, so that from screen off to fully loaded and ready to make a phone call the phone takes at least 1 minute, sometimes close to 2 minutes.
EDIT: just timed it - 45 seconds on splash screen, 25 seconds from end of boot animation to lock screen
i'm coming from a 667mhz WM6.1 phone that would boot, animation and all, be ready to call in 30 seconds or less.
i can live with the time it takes to load if it was normal...but then I hear things on here on how the evo loads in 8 seconds and i'm looking at mine and wondering what's wrong
is this a rom issue (OMJ v3.1 odex), kernel issue (king's #6), android (2.2), phone in general, or a result of all the different things we install on our phones (adblockers, superuser, custom flash, custom boot, etc)?
2) when the phone loads it always opens the dialer. i go back into home screen. throughout the day at least once or twice the dialer will randomly open on its own when i unlock my screen.
3) wi-fi at home is secured through wep2...but at school is unsecured to connect, but then you need to authenticate through the browser. sometimes this works, sometimes the browser (dolphin hd) just stays loading and doesnt take me to the authetication page...and the only way around is it to disable and enable wifi again. then everything is perfect.
is this a rom issue? or a dolphin hd issue?
4) I have LauncherProPlus with their custom icons from the website. whenever i restart the phone the icons for Dolphin HD, Documents to Go, MixZing and Pandora change to their standard icons. i have to restart launcherpro and they go to the matching icons i have throughout the homescreens. then at random points those three icons revert back to the stock icons, and i have to restart launcher pro.
is this a LP problem, a rom problem, or a me-specific problem?
5) perhaps the most important issue - i have problems downloading and installing certain apps in the market. I paid for lcd density changer and installed it. uninstalled it later on. now i'm trying to reinstall and I keep getting an installation unsuccesful message...same thing goes for Rom Manager (which i have installed, but installation unsuccessful with update), and many others. Some programs will update, some wont. Today I tried to download 3d gallery through the market and keep getting that issue.
this has happened with other programs in the past, where I thought maybe they werent meant for the EVO...but many of those had comments from EVO users??? and now some of those programs that wont install are programs I HAD or I HAVE installed!!!
is this a rom specific issue? or a market issue? or an odex issue? or does it have anything to do with having app2sd and move2sd enabler on the phone? none of the programs in question have been moved to the sd card...obviously not the ones like 3d gallery that I haven't yet installed.
so, thank you for reading through all that. any help in either of the issues will be greatly appreciated.
if most of the issues are rom-related i will go hunting for a new, stable rom. if they're general woes that come with owning the Evo then I guess i need to know that too.
thanks in advance!
I can't really help you much in terms of a solution, but coming from a Blackberry the EVO boot time seems very fast! However, the EVO is definitely not an 8 second loader, I don't know where you got that information.

This is just a guess, but I'd say it's the ROM you're using. Have you tried anything else? Make a nandroid backup of your phone now, then flash another ROM and test it out, it's easy to revert with the nandroid backup. Keep in mind the first time you load any newly flashed ROM it will take longer than normal to boot.
In my experience, stock 2.2 and all its OTA updates (and the ROM I use that is based on the latest OTA) are pretty good when it comes to boot times. Anything you install may have the potential to slow things down.
I'm currently using the VaelPak 2.2 ROM with the latest HTC kernel (no 30FPS limitation) which is very stable and very fast. VaelPak stripped out some of sense (not all) and I love how you have the choice between HTC/Sense elements or AOSP. For example, I actually like the HTC dialer, messaging, and contacts.
thanks.
i guess i'm going to have to flash a new rom...but it'll have to wait till next week!
i'll look into the different roms but i had thought of flashing CM6 since I'm not using any sense other than the dialer as far as i know
thanks
any other opinions are welcome!

Are all of those apps saved on your SD Card? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
yes all four apps are in the sd card. i was using pandora and plugged the phone in to my pc to try to install that 3dgallerym.apk i found on here. pandora stopped (i'm assuming as the sd card was unmounted). after unplugging and the card was remounted i was able to open pandora again...but then the 4 icons had reverted again.
i'm starting to think that is a lp issue. i'll send a message to the developer see what he says about it.

FYI they have their own forum. You should see if it has already been answered there.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/
The boot up taking so long is do to custom roms being deodexed.. It puts the odex file into the apks so that you can theme a rom without any problems. Stock roms arent deodexed so they boot up a lot faster. Its the only downside to deodexing a rom.
Also you should try to start fresh.. wipe data and dalvik and reboot. Then see if you have a problems with downloading and stuff. It might be cache left on the phone messing it up. If a clean data/dalvik wipe doesnt fix your problems then its most likely the rom or user error. Try a different rom for couple weeks and see if you come across the same problems.
My rom is odexed...
Im going to try cm6 next week most likely...
Swyped from an HTC Evo on MetroPCS...
First off, are you running a task killer or manager? If so, uninstall and reboot. A lot of the time this is the source of problems. Android manages its own tasks quite well. I can go into a lot more details if you'd like about why you shouldn't use one.
If not using a task killer or that did not help....
I say try Fresh ROM or Myn's Warm. Fresh is very stable. I think you may have a corrupt download of the ROM. However, since you are using LP you don't seem like a Sense UI person so CM6 may be your option. However, it does not have 4G nor HDMI. Personally, I love Fresh ROM. The dev came from the Hero like me and has a very very good track record for being stable and fixing things. And he is a cool guy.
Install one of those and then post back if you still have problems. I think this will fix it.
BTW did you flash from another ROM and use a backup app to restore? This can cause problems with ROMs that have different settings and options.
As for boot times, like the earlier guy said deodexed ROMs do extra stuff while booting. Also, lots of apps can cause slow boots because they start up on boot. You can use an app to disable them.
And last, app not installing. Hit menu-settings-applications-manage applications. Hit the SD tab and see if those apps show up. If so, click on them and uninstall. This will most like fix that issue.
Post back results here or if you need further help. We will be glad to help.

Pandora has always been glitchy. Its a great service, but they need a new programmer.
8 second phone. I think not. Try the Desire Z (G2), their version of Froyo looks faster.
If your new to the EVO, give it some time. Its a smartphone, and anyone with experience knows that all smartphones are temperamental some times, just like computers.

i've been on the evo for a little over a month now getting into it hard...i've learned too much too quickly...but yeah i definitely see the "like computers" temperamental issues at times.

not using any task manager. used to have advanced task killer but someone else recommended uninstalling it before.

im considering CM6 because i barely use any sense apps. mainly flashlight, clock and htc lockscreen. i'm on metropcs so i cant use 4G and i dont have a HDTV so no need for HDMI
Install one of those and then post back if you still have problems. I think this will fix it.

have not done that...and now i know not to do it when i change roms.

well the problem is 1) if the app is in my sd card, i dont need to uninstall it, just move it to the phone and then i can update it. but i have over 100 apps installed, it is not practical to do this for every update for every app! 2)some apps, like LCD Density Changer, which I paid and had installed before, wont install at all and i dont have it installed...so what there?

The OP's sig says he has his EVO on MetroPCS; if that's the case then lack of 4G shouldn't be a concern.
That's the only real thing keeping me from trying CM6, even though there are only a few pockets of 4G coverage where I live.
Well I switched roms to ava v9 and some of the issues seem to have gone away...but still having problems installing apps from market...many if the apps and games I had before on my previous rom give an installation unsuccessful message...
Im thinking it may be something I damaged by installing htc and sprint apps right after flashing the rom...I'm going to restore all those files and see what happens...

New Android Market for Hero?

I've actually noticed this a coupla days ago, and thought I'd look it up on the forums to see what else is new... but theres no thread so far about this. (correct me if im wrong)
(and please feel free to skip down to the ****starred paragraph)
I'm using the HTC Hero (unbranded) with the official OTA 2.1 android (unrooted, yes I know... UN-rooted)
About a week ago I had a massively slow and buggy phone. I hardly had that many apps installed, because it was so slow I was forced to download task manager to free up memory (didn't work). I got really worried after because opening ANY app like my emails would cause HTC Sense to close in the backround - and I'd have to wait about 15 seconds for it to launch again.
I just figured it was the official android 2.1 + Sense that started to bog down after time, and considered going back to the custom roms. Before I did, I remembered the number one trick in the "help manual", switch off, wait and switch back on. What do you know....it's much faster and no more lag, bugs or memory shortage! What a shame.
Now I've only just switched it off and on again, and throughout the whole time I've not updated my phone or accepted any OTA downloads or anything really... so I can only guess it's happened in the backround without consulting me.
My sister also has the same Hero 2.1 (Orange-branded) which still has the "old" Android Market.
I hate having to give my life story, and as gruelling it is for you to read, I thought I'd set out all the information just incase anyone picks up on something.
********(Now what you've been waiting for...) I've now noticed that I've got a new Android Market. Its largely the same appearance (white and green) with similar layout for the home page. The difference is the appearance of the indivual apps. The top bar will have "About" and "Comments" tabs, instead of having 3 short comments under the apps description on the same front page of the app.
I really would love to take a snapshot of the screen - but my phone is unrooted and personally never-needed/couldnt-work-out-how to root!
Now for the second, and best part. Normally, Android would notify you when there are updates for your apps, and it takes you to the "Downloads" page. This is still the same! But usually you'd have to go into each app, and press update individually. Now at the bottom of the "Downloads" page there is an "Update All" page - which does exactly what it says - update all in just one click.
If you consider the two small changes, its pretty insignificant - and I do apologise for wasting a bit of your time! But I thought I'd start a post about it incase anyone else finds anything new about the market, or if it is available on custom roms or well... anything!
Yes indeed, there is a new market for 2. 1. To bring some things into line with what 2. 2 can do. The apk is available from Modaco I think if anyone else is looking for it

*** Galaxy Tab Master Tweak Thread***

Hi everyone.
Id like to start a thread where we collect, post and discuss all known individual tweaks and changes that can be made to the Galaxy Tab in order to gain performance and stability.
My experience with the Galaxy Tab has been similar to my latest phone, an HTC HD2. When I got the HD2 about one year ago, I positively hated it... slow, unstable, all sorts of problems, lags, crashes... its the way most of the hardware today is released. One year later, my HD2 has become the most amazing machine I've ever owned. From pushing it 1.6GHz stable, to tweaking registry, XML files, services and making everything work well. I remember not being able to watch smooth video on the HD2 to being able to watch flawlessly 720p content and going from the extreme of detesting the phone to loving it.
It was with the HD2 I discovered Android and fell in love with it. Since I have now two HD2s I have one with an SD ROM version of Gingerbread (that I can dual boot still from Windows Mobile) and a Froyo NAND. I run Android on the HD2 much much much faster and smoother than on the Galaxy Tab, that I also hated when I bought it a few weeks and that am starting to like after getting to know it, a new ROM, apps, etc. Even at 1GHz stock the HD2 with Froyo is vastly faster, smoother, more responsive and better to use. The approach d like to do as far as tweaking the Galaxy Tab is the same as I did for the HD2 with Windows Mobile, that is, install the best/fastest ROM I can, delete and remove all stuff I don't need and then tweak what's left.
The tweaks I've done so far on the Galaxy are simple but have made a huge difference. Id like with this thread to be able to collect individual tweaks and post them all here to share with everyone.
Im using Roto JMI Pre-Rooted Firmware v2 which was the main step after getting rid of the stock Samsung Rom that is nothing but a collection of problems.
The first thing I learned with this Tab is that WHATEVER IS ON YOUR HOME SCREENS THAT MOVES, IS BAD! Forget about having ANY type of apps or widgets that do any type of refresh, including stuff running on the upper task bar if they change icons or the move around… that mean a CPU cycle and refresh each time and there goes the tab's performance and battery life. The same goes for any type of Live Wallpaper. Beautiful but deadly. Never touch them!
- So, after a new ROM, the first thing I did was changing the file system to EXT4. This is the SINGLE BEST THING you can do to radically improve the performance of the Tab. Its extremely easy to do and the step-by-step instructions are as follow:
- Make sure you have an miniSD Card in with plenty of available space (it will be used automatically to backup your system during the conversion process)
- Get p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar (the EXT4 Conversion Kernel)
- Connect the Tab in Downloading Mode to your PC via USB, start Odin3 1.7 and load the Kernel (click on the PDA button and select the p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar and make sure PDA stays ticked after selecting the file).
- UNTICK Re-Partition check box and make sure the only boxes ticked are:
Auto Reboot
F. Reset Time
The PDA tickbox
- Click start and wait for PASS! (it will show highlighted green or Yellow on Odin)
- Now the Tab will restart and get stuck on the Samsung loading screen. This is normal. Turn it off by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
- Turn on the Tab again on into RECOVERY mode (Press Volume UP and Power On at the same time) and the EXT4 conversion will start automatically. The process will take up to one hour depending on how much stuff you have on your Tab. It took about 10 minutes on mine because I have a fresh install of Roto JMI v2.
- Once finished, click "Reboot System Now" (by pressing the power button).
- The reboot may take a while first time so be patient!
- Done!
- After that, the first tweak I did was to get rid of all my favorite widgets that moved around… net meter, news, weather and all these beautiful things KILL the Tab. Equally I had a CPU meter on the tray refreshing every 2 seconds and it took me a while to figure out that was the reason why every 2 seconds the system would stutter, whether watching a movie or browsing the web. So, out!
- Next was to install SetCPU under the ON DEMAND setting, minimum around 750MHz and maximum 1000MHz (unfortunately only with a custom Kernel you can go higher, currently up to 1.4GHz but not full stable and with lots of issues pending so I don’t recommend it)
- My following step was to get rid of the stock Samsung Homescreen (that is a resource hog and slow as hell) and replace it with a new one. I've tried them all and am making no recommendation here but the one that works for me and is by far the best IMO is LauncherPro. This single app makes using the Tab a whole better experience.
- Next was to disable the USELESS and (resource pig) Gallery and replace it with an app called QuickPic that is blazing fast (actually instant) and simply amazing to browse and view all media on the Tab.
- Next was to greatly improve the poor native GPS reception by replacing high performance files and drivers from the Orange Rom P1000JHKA1 that seems to work on all versions of the Tab, as originally posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922692
- With SystemApp Remover 4.12 I have disabled all system apps and services I don’t need (BE VERY CAREFUL AND DON'T REMOVE ROM APPS YOU WILL NEED). I have actually deleted some from ROM (Root access required of course), this includes useless stuff like STK Service starting every time, most of the Samsung stuff that I really don’t care for and just about all apps I know for sure I will never open a single time. Now, its important to understand if these apps are removed they will be removed PERMANENTLY from ROM so to get the back a hard reset will not be enough, you'll have to fully flash the ROM again. For most system apps I don’t use but am not sure, I use a different option and that is to simply disable them. In my case this includes all Bluetooth stuff (I never use it and even if it's off the Services are still running robbing performance and memory) and apps like the built-in Browser, Email and Messaging that suck and that I replaced with better apps. Its always a safer bet, at least initially to disable the apps you don’t need that uninstall them because at least you can go back and change your mind This is one area where Id like to learn more. There are many background services that I don’t know what they do and if they can be disabled or not. If someone knows what each one does and the safety of getting rid of them OR NOT, it would be great to post it here!
- Them, with Startup Auditor 2.3.2 I have disabled all unnecessary apps that start automatically every time the Tab boots so I don't have excess applications starting up that are not needed. Some I configured to be killed AGAIN if the system tries to restart them later after the boot-up
- Using Task Manager 1.0.7 and letting always run on background, I have configured all apps that I don’t need running to be auto-killed every time the phone goes to stand-by (screen off). This saves me lots of memory and CPU time on apps that I am actually not using.
- Finally, I monitor what is going on with an app called CPU Usage Timeliness Free 1.7.1.0 and use it to see EXACTLY which applications are using CPU cycles and interfering with performance. With it I have found that on my Tab I have an unsolved problem that is using over 100MB of memory and non-stop CPU usage between 15% and 45% of something called SECURITY STORAGE. I have no idea what it does. It can't be disabled and I don’t know where all the activity comes from. If someone know more about this and how to fix it, that will be great. Most of the performance issues I have on my Tab come from this Service that I don’t know how to tame. Surely, we can find a solution.
The system background services is one area where I'd like to know one by one, what each service does and if we need them or not, if it can be tweaked, disabled or deleted. Below is a complete list of the services I have safely disabled so far that have given me great performance boosts and with no negative issues on the system (IN BOLD), and OTHERS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT (not bold). Please note these are background services that start automatically. The changes made to the disabled apps/services is that they are reverted to ON-DEMAND so they all still work perfectly.

Originally with my Tab I was getting Quadrant below 600 on average. Now, its always over 1900. This is not a "little" improvement, this is amazing upgrading. But id like this to be a starting point to learn and share more ways with everyone we can all share on things we can do to make the Tab as good as it was intended to be for everyone
Cheers!

The first block of disabled items (in bold) from CALENDAR to WORLD CLOCK are disabled start-ups but the apps works as usual. It just frees resources not required on boot till you actually start the application when you want.
The second block from Bluetooth Services to Voice Search are all disabled as I use none of those. Items disabled can be restarted again at any time upon activating them follwing a reboot, while items deleted (like Samsung Apps and STK) are gone forever.
Ive never flashed a ModaCo Kernel and got lots of feedback regarding probelms with 1.4OC. Do you have any issues at all or none? We are using different ROMs... What Quadrant do you get currently?
Cheers
Thank you for your post.
You have solved many of my questions. Also I am User of HD2 and had the same impressions, but now with Android Nand everything was great, also started to love it.
As for GTAB'll make those adjustments you suggested, some will not disable because I use Bluetooth as an example.
Any news please keep posting.

Cheers

So far the oc is good, things load a little faster, especially nfs shift. Last run of quadrant was 2300-2400.
Ill try it again later after these optimizations and see how it goes, a member here has gotten 3000.
Having done nothing but root, my tab gets about 1000 quadrant score. I have tried setcpu using on demand and it actuall has made my tab worse. I am very hesitant to flash anything on the tab. It seems very involved and complicated. I have an HD2 as well and have been flashing since Android was on SD. That process is simple. Everything I have read about flashing things to the tab doesn't look that way. I really havent had any issues with my tab as stock other than a bit laggy at times. I would like to hear more about all of this. The oppinions I have read are either do it or don't do it. There are more problem posts after attempting to flash than there are good ones where it worked. I really could care less about a quadrant score to be honest, but I would like to have a faster smoother running tab. I really dont care about making calls on it either. Thats why I have a phone. JMO. I think part of the issue in this thread is that there are Euro and USA version which are completely different and require different roms and such.
I have been reading and lurking in the tab development thread for a while now and am not impressed with any of it yet. Maybe someone could shed some light on things and change my mind.

In startup auditor i just checked disable all, and am not having any problems, unless you are using task manager to disable

I agree. The process of flashing the Galaxy is much more dauting than anything on the HD2. I suggest you do the EXT4 file converstion. All you need is follow the step by step I wrote above. It makes a huge difference. As for everything else, I too hold off to do too much flashing. The ROM I use now is great and lighter than stock but your seems to work well so keep it. For me when a ROM is good I just use it. When I bought the HD2 I flashed it 2 times with a custom ROM till i found one that worked for me and kept it for 8 months. But backing up and restoring WinMo is much easier... on Androind its all more complicated if you dont know what you are doing. Disable some start-ups on your unit, convert the file system to EXT4 and make sure you have nothing on your home screen doing a lot of refreshing and your tab will work great

Is everything working 100% on that ROM? I do not want any ROMS that are having problems.
I too am not impressed with anything that us out yet...seems like any ROM process is tedious and complicated.
Glad the thread starter modified his tab to his liking, but what's the point of having it if you need to drastically change everything. I have a rooted DInc and not use any of things......didn't really see a performance gain with set CPU.
I'm going to continue waiting for something more reliable and use my tab the way it was meant to be, with all its hardware and widgets.

Thank you for your detailed post. While I agree with you that the stock SGT rom and browser suck but where do you think the JMI, JMF, JMx ROMs coming from?
Most ROMs I've seen (except for CM) are based from some sort of Jxx
Please keep the tweak posts going. Good stuff and thanks!

Not impressed with all the problems being posted just tring to flash it, and how complex it is to do it. Guess that's what I meant. Flashing the hd2 is a very simple process. Tab is not

My boy,
Only getting my Galaxy tomorrow but looking through threads on my favorite forum.
And guess the first one I happen into... I will follow avidly.
Hi dubie76,
Try an app called OCLF 2.0 on the Market. It is a Lag fix app for the Samsung Galaxy S which also works on the Tab.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rc.QuickFixLagFixR2
You have to install EXT2 tools and then install one click lag fix, both are done within the app.
I had this on my Tab before flashed to a custom ROM. The tab was much faster and did not have and lag compared to stock, the Quadrant score was around 1900.
Also you can uninstall the modifications in the app and easily reverse back to stock. The only disadvantage is you will loss about 800mb of internal memory (the 2Gb space), so if you don't have much space left, you will need to uninstall some apps and reinstall them once you applied the lag fix.
P.S. thanks to OP for the SystemApp Remover & Startup Auditor suggestion.
Custom ROMs?
Hi everyone!
Consider this:
The locked GTab (in standby) on an original ROM with a connected to it BT headset wakes up after replying a call from BT and can potentially have anything pressed as being in the bag due to its size...
My point is that there is NO fix for this on XDA therefore why should I expect any significant advancements from a custom ROM if such simple things cannot be fixed on Android.
My personal view is that Android is unfortunatelly not as flexible for adjustments as WinMo (i have HD2 as well with a wonderful custom Artemis ROM).
I've tried two Roto ROMs on my GT and they havent provided any noticeable enhancements in performance to my eye (perhaps some rating went up - I dont care about tech stats). I reverted to stock ROM P1000XWJMI that works as fast for a "regular user".
I am sad to resume my experience with hacking the GT as not worth it: you get serious risk of getting the GT bricked (much more complicated than with WinMo), loose the warranty and are open for instability and sudden incompatibilities with crashes.
On the third custom ROM installation attempt I was stuck on a black screen after powering on (stuck on the bootloader!) and couldnt initiate flash for multiple times. I was shocked and very nervous. Thats when the stock ROM saved my ass and I am not willing the risk of playing around any more with non-firmware ROMs for Android GT.
Regarding the alternative screen lockers available - please do not suggest Screen Suite (the best of the worst) and things like No-Lock (to get rid of the original locker) as they all mess up once in a while (tested) with the default ROM settings and the original core locker.
PS
In my view the best thing we can and should do first of all is to COMPLAIN to SAMSUNG Tech Support and Software Developers (I did twice already).
If every one of us from theese GTab forums would do this they would definitely get faster with resolving issues.

[Q] random apps popping up as being used

Hi,
Just got my Xperia Arc and should I be using Advanced Task Killer? I noticed that apps are always running in background and I haven't touched that apps yet, like sometimes I will see Let's Golf, map, clock, etc.
Another question is, I organized the apps the way i like them to be, but when I reboot the phone, everything turns back to the way it was before I organized them and even the bookmarks on the browser that I deleted came back.
Thanks
Unfortunately this is software issue which should be solved in the next software update which will be released one day..
Well, the second point is, but the first thing is just how android works. A task killer is possible, some people say it works, other people says it is using more battery than it saves, I am at the second group and never use task killers... You can find quite a few nice information about it when you google this.
Sent from my arc or optimus 2x
so would it be better to return the phone and ask for a new one, or wait for the software update?
