Anyone having issues with SetCPU? SetCPU doesn't seem change when I try and make changes as described in another thread. It always stays at 528 and "performance". I try and change my sliders, which do change, and select "on demand", hit refresh, but it says it is still running at 528 and when I re-open SetCPU it always has reverted back to "Performance" and is running at 528. I think it may have to do with SU Permissions as I never had to set any when I first opened SetCPU, (either time, re-installed once already). Any ideas on how to fix this so I can throttle this down a bit?

What kernel are you running. Stock kernel can't use setCPU its all governed for you.

This same thing happens to me, and I'm running Fresh 1.1 with the Gumbo kernel. Any solutions, anyone? I've tried RUU, reflash, data wipe, and reinstalling setCPU and nothing works.

Gumbo Kernel with Fresh 1.1
I may try to re-Flash Fresh, then Gumbo kernel and see what happens. I have yet to be asked to set any SU permissions for any app, so I think the problem maybe with that.
Try the MoDaCo kernel. I am not sure if gbhill has done what he needs to his kernel to enable setCPU. I think MoDaCo has.

SetCPU does work on the stock rom as long as Busybox has been installed. Works great with Gumbo kernel.
I know it works with Fresh 1.1 and SetCPU, there are posts everywhere to that point. However, I can't get SetCPU to adjust anything.

For some reason setCPU doesn't have superuser permissions (exactly what you guessed). Set CPU needs to write data to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ .
There should be an ondemand folder in that path, and I'll bet there isn't.
When you first ran setcpu did it ask for su and then go black? If so, hit Home key and relaunch it.

No, I have never been asked for SU. I have tried relaunching it, even un-install, re-install still no luck, and no request for SU permissions.
So I re-Flashed Fresh and after that SetCPU asked for SU permissions. After re-flashing Gumbo kernel I can now actually make changes to SetCPU. Either I just skipped right over the SU permission screen the first time, or it didn't ask. Anyway works now if anyone else has this issue.

No. It has to be modified in the kernel. The code in the kernel restricts it to 528 MHz.
I'm sure someone is working on it...but I don't think it is as big of a priority (could be wrong on this) as, say, getting 2.1 working fully on the Hero.
2.1 has a custum kernel that allows up to...660? Just not released yet.
so is there a value we can just change in the kernel or does a dev have to hack our kernel first?
Look in the 2.1 thread

Pretty much im in this boat. Running fresh 1.1 and gumbo hack. Like it will get to the screen to choose phone then after that it will say SU on the top and then nothing else. I re flashed everything and it still does that. So what am I doing wrong? Even when I go to the SU app directly its a blank screen? Is that supposed to be like that?
I have an htc incredible with 2.2 froyo installed.
version 2.2
kernel 2.6.32.15
baseband 2.15.00.07.28
and s-off
When I startup titanium backup the app says that it can not find root.
it is allowed in superuser, and super user starts up fine as well as some other root only apps.
Help?
Probably saying something about installing busybox, too. Right?

Click having problems and install busybox. That should fix ur problems.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Firstly sorry for asking dumb questions, I didn't see the problems button at first.
Secondly what does busy box do. Doesn't super user already give it all the permissions it needs?

Idk but just open busybox, first time it always fails for me. Just click install again then titanium will work.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
busybox is like DOS/*nix/etc prompt, only that it processes commands in the background. Even you have a working copy of Busybox installed, it's a good idea to hit said button and download a specific version of Busybox for TB (don't worry, it doesn't overwrite any existing copy of busybox).
Let me start by saying thank you to all the devs for making rooting the Nook Color (NC) possible.
I'm having a couple of issues after MN rooting and installing the 1.1 Ghtz OC kernel. I'm a systems engineer with experience rooting other droid devices including my HTC Incredible.
1. non-market Apps not loading on NC. I use dropbox to move apps to my NC. some apps didn't have any issue loading. Such as Nook Home and Live Wallpapers but others just don't do anything;i.e. prompts to install but install app doesn't open.
a. SetCPU_2.13-donate.apk : want to use for the OC kernel
b. Quickoffice Pro v4.1.2.apk : payed app pulled from my HTC Incredible.
2. XDA App does not save my login information. this is just an inconvenience.
Thanks in advance for everyones help.

1a. I don't believe SetCPU is compatible unless you are using the new 2.6.32 kernel...
1b. I run Quickoffice fine on my nook...here is the APK I installed, give it a shot...
2. The free XDA app didn't save my login info either. Then I upgraded to the paid version and that works GREAT!

How new is your Nook? It might be related to the partition sizes B&N is loading the NC with.

I apologize in advance, I'm not posting any solutions =( just to share my experience on my rooted 1.2 with Manual Nooter and OC 1.1 mhz kernel. It runs awesome in general, B&N interface runs smoothly and fast now, no creashes, apps I've been able to install run great. Quadrant score is 1680 . Issues so far:
1. Market is obsolete, even with Market Fix I cant see all apps I can see boot from my Phiremod sd.
2. I did find SetCPU , runs without issues, OC is fine/
3. Asphalt 5 doesnt run full screen even with Spare Parts compatability mode disabled (or enabled).
4. Air Attack HD doesnt install correctly. Runs fine from Phiremod sd.
5. Quick Office doesnt install correctly. Strange thing is that I thought it was part of the B&N package. I do see the apk but app doesnt open or install.

1a. I am using sugwacee's recompiled OC kernel 2.6.32.9.
1b. Thanks. Now I'm at least getting a message when trying to install, something about "archive" then "unarchive". Did you have to uninstall the Quickoffice viewer? If so, how?
2. Thanks for that info. Just curious why on my Dinc it saves the user profile and password.

Can you share the SetCPU APK you used to install on your nook.
Hi.
My nook color was on 1.4 (latest bn update), I dual boot it with cm7 following this set of instructions - youtube.com/watch?v=OxDEZ1Fc6iE
when started, the android guy didn't appear and it didn't ask to log in to my google account. in the menu, there's no market.
went to settings - manage applications - there's no google service framework nor market.
I then rooted it instead with cm7 again following - youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0
same thing, no google service framework, no market.
I've dual booted, rooted, unrooted to 1.0, rooted, over and over again but no luck. I doubt there's something wrong with the files, is it not reading/installing it properly? I downloaded the files through the right links multiple times.
since then, I tried all sorts of ways to try to download the apps but nothing works as well. I also tried installing the files individually (google service framework, onetimeinitializer, setupwizard, talk, vending) but it keeps saying "Application not installed."
Once I did manage to download market, but when I open it, it just gets out and crashes.
Is there another way to root it with a sure way of having market on it? or what am I doing wrong?
Please help. ): I'm not an expert with all these things so if you could explain it in simple terms.
So are you running from an SD card? Did you download gapps.zip and put it on the boot partition?
Sent from space
yes, I rooted from an sdcard. I followed the exact instructions on the video - (youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0) Is something missing? Am I suppose to partition the sd? By my understanding, partition is something like splitting the memory on the sd? is it?
Sorry, I'm a real beginner on this.
Well the video you followed on Failtube has you installing to your internal memory. Did you flash the google apps zip while in clockwork?

Okay, I managed to install CM7 and market! I followed eyeballer's guide at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227&fb_source=message through Koopakid08's link on his/her signature.
There was market on it and it opens. but doesn't start dowloads. I did the usual of delete the caches, reboot and now, it downloads fine.
I then overclocked it with www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mvwmx9qSZY guidance. not much of a guide but i managed to find the files and installed. but it overclocked to 1.1ghz, not 1.3. I don't really mind, but just wondering what I did wrong.. I'm thinking of trying it again but using the latest phiremod 7.1. I used the old 6.1 yesterday instead because I wasn't very sure.
So, now my question would be do I have to revert it back to cm7 then overclock it again? or can I just do it over what I've already done? or must I start from scratch, unroot, root to cm7 then overclock?

You can just install it as an update using ROM Manager and not lose any data. Just make sure the only boxes checked when you update are wipe dalvik cache and backup.

Go to download a rom to choose the rom you want.
You should install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards. If you want to update manualy through recovery then you need to wipe dalvik cache and then use the install a zip option. To boot into recovery hold volume up on boot.

I went - Rom manager - Download ROM - Error occured while processing the ROM list/Error occured while Developing Download list
How do I continue? ):
If I do update it manually through recovery, I need to install the phiremod v7.1, do I need to install gapps_phiremod_7.1 as well? the instructions are gone since phiredrop deleted his website. I can't find any other instructions for updating from 6.1 to 7.1

2. Yes you should flash gapps again seeing how you are having problems with your google account.
3. I've never used phiremod so I am not sure if that is a problem. I would suggest that you go with just virgin CM7.1 but I'm sure phiremod will be fine too.

Okay, after all the trial and errors, my nook color is finally up and running awesomely on cm7,phiremod 7.1 at 1.2ghz.
Went to rom manager - download rom - phiremod - v7.1 - reboot after that, I had to do gapps again because some files like market wasn't in the menu, but on the homepage. rom manager - download rom - phiremod - gapps - reboot.
so everything is working well so far.
thanks to all the help I received, especially koopakid08!
If you want to easily overclock your nook to the Max, along with adjusting voltage to handle it and adjusting speaker gain and other stuff, look up Nook Tweaks (icon is a nook outline with gears inside). The process is very simple, just make sure you install it to the device not SD (I made that mistake), because otherwise it won't set the CPU speed and voltage settings on boot (even with the boxes checked). I am able to get my nook running smoothly at 1300MHz, but the option goes up to 1600. So wherever your nook's Max is can be found with this app. No need to readjust your kernel, just install the app and go. If you want to make sure that it is working on boot, download autostarts, which shows what starts during boot.

True but you will not gain any performance by going over 1.2, only worse battery life and the chance of overheating.
Sent from space
Well I certainly don't think I know any better than anyone else, its just that I recorded a pretty decent increase from 1.2 to 1.3 when I ran a benchmark using Quadrant Standard. That's the only basis I currently have, but I figured since Quadrant Standard got good reviews that it was creditable... do you know of a better benchmark?

Oh, sounds great but I think I'll keep it at 1.3 rather than 1.6, I don't want it to overheat it or something. I've already downloaded the app and tried to change it to 1.3, but what is the CPU stepping 1,2,3,4,5? I changed it to 800, 900, 1000, 1200 and 1300. Is that okay?
