DO NOT USE LCD DENSITY CHANGER on EPIC 4G - Epic 4G General

So after rooting I thought I would try an app that I used on the EVO and has been used on the Captivate called LCD DENSITY CHANGER 3.0. It worked great on those two devices
MUST have ROOT to use! And when you use it with EPIC 4G it will restart your screen to a lovely black screen. Buttons light up and Notification Lights up as well but the screen will stay black. Until Full ROOT with Custom Recovery stay away until fixed

You couldn't factory reset it with recovery?

There's a fix for that in the thread...

I have tried that as well before I ended up returning the Phone for an exchange. I have used the APP on a lot of different phones too first time this has happened too. But now I know, shame though since that app rocks

Man, I feel sorry that my app give you all this trouble! Really. It's a hell of a job to make this app safe for every device, rom and root configuration...
Please can you give more insight in what went wrong? Did the boot manager not caused a restart with the old density setting when you got the black screen??
Did you rebooted it yourself directly after getting the black screen or did you wait for a while? (The device will reboot itself after 30 sec. when the user can't give any input )
And what is that about the partial root?
I hope you can give some feedback, because really.... I want this thing to be safe. Thanks.

After setting it to 200 it restarted automatically. When it tried to reboot it loads a black screen with sound bottom buttons light up but the device doesn't respond. I did let it sit the first time because I have tried this on the evo so I knew it would try to auto load the default 240. But nothing. Had to pull battery. After 20 - 30 min later I entered recovery and wiped data and cache but same thing happened when it booted back up.
I really do hope this gets fixed soon. It was one of those apps that I paid for that was worth it!

Thanks for your observations. I have contacted LeshaK and he gave me some great advices. I will look into this, because I really don't want to get users into trouble by trying the app out. On the other side, maybe Epic users have to wait for a full root.
I guess you don't want to be a beta tester Anyone else? Please PM me or leave a message in this thread.

wicked! wish this was out yest morning but considering the phone just came out great progress

The easiest way to fix this was to simply pull the build.prop file from /system
Open the file in notepad and find the pixel density value.
Set it to 240 or 234 if you want to be accurate. It looks best at 240 though.

this app just messed up my phone....i installed in GT-I5801 and still there is no solution i can't even exchange like he did....the same problem black screen wit no effects...what is the easiest way 2 get rid of this bootin' thing.. and it not even changing to normal...and no carrier signals...help me out!!

boot into recovery and install an old nandroid backup

How hard is it to change the number in the build.prop file?

Lol don't odin just reflash your rom or yes pull buildb and manuall fix it

It works perfect on my Epic with the Froyo rom. It never worked with any 2.1 rom!

Yes but it will be messed up if you're on a later sprint build. You still have to flash a fix, found on these forums.

im not on a sprint build.
edit: hahahah ok so just to see i did it. yep got vanilla, yep its messed up. kinda humorous. unlock and silence sliders are at top and bottom. despite arrows indicating left and right actions its up and down... clock is chopped as well... gonna look for that fix.
Here is one of the fixes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=665652
It's a bit specific though in that it removes the clock, and removes the haptic feedback from the sliders
Battery indicator Pro has an option to disable the lock screen and it worked for me when I tried it. maybe take a look at that app...

HTC logo loading every time I press home

Hey everyone. I'm pretty sure everyone is having this problem since the last update. Every time that I'm using any app and I press the home button the htc logo shows up and it starts loading.. It. Doesn't take that long but it's getting annoying. Does anyone knows how to fix it? I've tried to delete Apps and widgets on my home screen.. I think it worked but it keeps doing it sometimes. Hate to tell you but that is one of the drawbacks of GINGERBREAD. All I can say is just keep clearing cache, history, etc. Grab a cache cleaner in the Market. No root required. My favorite is "QUICK APP MANAGER" it's not free but it's worth the donation.
I don't know for sure, but I've read that turning off fastboot then rebooting the phone helps...
That's one reason why I got rid of sense. Sense looks nice. But its bloated, slow, and does weird things like that. Not saying AOSP is perfect but performance wise... its so much better. At least for me it was

In your post you say "I got my EVO 2 months ago" . Hopefully you mean EVO Shift. If you do than the answer you need is in the links below. Before you do anything, remember DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST. The first link is to a BUILD PROP EDIT . It will give Sense more room to breath. The Second link is to a flashable zip. for boot.img . The zip is in the 8th post on the thread. It should give you a smoother/faster Sense experience, and possibly faster data. Hope these help . Don't forget to thank the people the threads for there work.

Yes, your phone has to be rooted.
I had the same issue, and I stopped using sense, and am using LauncherPro. I purchased it back when I had my hero, so I figured I'd dust off the app, and put it to good use. I don't get a launcher reload every few minutes, and if it does reload, it's very quick (less than 10 seconds).

The last line in my build.prop says:
dalvik.vm.stack-trace-file=/data/anr/traces.txt
I'm using the stock-rooted rom, from x99percent.
It is a problem with the latest update having more aggressive memory settings than before. I am not sure why it was set that way... but if you are rooted you can fix it.
HOME MEM set to 4096 and upped the vm heapsize to 64m = no Sense reloads and this thing flies so fast, you'd think the kernel was OC'd.

Download EStrongs File Manager from the market (ES File Manager)...it's free
Navigate to /system
Click on Build.prop
Click on one of the options to edit the file (I used ES Editor, or something like that)
Scroll to the end of the file, on a new line, and add the following:
ro.HOME_APP_MEM=3072
Click on the back button. When it asks if you want to save, click Yes
The only time sense reloads on me is if I go into manage applications, and back out, or if I've done a lot of web surfing. Haven't played any games that really tax the system, but sense reloading has been less.

Cwm not working correctly --sub menus

OK so I am new to the mt4g... I currently use a sgs4g, the rest of my family uses the mt4g and they live in Indiana while I live in Texas. I followed the guides to get the phone rooted with s-off. I installed the cwm from rom manager becuz I could not find an up to date thread. Anyways when I reboot in to cwm it seems to work fine except when I try to go into a submenu it just gives me a blank screen with no text. I was going to do a nandroid back up but this is not possible without getting into the submenus of cwm. I then tried rom manager to flash virtuous unity and it worked perfectly. I am unsure of what is going on exactly but I am afraid that if the phone happens to soft brick I will not be able to get back into recovery or even if I do I cannot flash anything or be able to unbrick the phone. I am not nooby I have been working with android for a while now and have soft bricked my sgs4g many times while learning. Almost hard bricked due to wrong bootloaders. Anyways one thing I left out is if I try to click the power button while I am in one of the blank submenus it just goes back to the main menu.
Any help would be very much appreciated and also I do not have a usable computer ATM so everything I do is with my phone or someone else's.
Thanks guys for all the fantastic threads for the mt4g, it only took me about 2hrs to get s-off and roms installed, minus the 4 hrs it took me to realize that only the final s-off method works on the 0.86.0000 bootloaders.
Again thank you.

Are you hitting the power button? If so, you need to click the track pad to select a sub menu in recovery. This happened to me as well until I tried the track pad and it works flawlessly!!!!
Try using the track pad to select your option... Sounds like you are using the power button to make selections in recovery which just puts the phone to sleep, so to speak...

Yup I did a fresh install. I have both the ripple lock and the agile lock (sense 3.0) and they both do the same. I found out that they ado work but to I have to use the volume to show unlock (weird) If I hit the power button nothing happens at all.

Yes. That one., it is comparable with ec09, and very east to use. You need to have adb and jdk installed (which you should anyway, if you want to do anything to your phone as a fail safe). There are a multitude of tutorials out there on that. But, if you need help, let me know.

Okay, so I figured it out, sort of. I connected my phone, pulled the framework-res.apk, changed the softkey look and remap, decided to remove the weather/ticker history while I was there, repackaged it, and made the flashable zip.
The problem is, once I've flashed it via CWM, my phone gets stuck on the verizon wireless animation during boot and shuts off. The softkeys are lit up, and I can see they are still the old original keys. Am I doing something wrong? It looks like my phone isn't working anymore as it won't boot all the way through.

Your ICS theme is dope, thanks for making it!
One question though, is AOSP lockscreen out for EC09? I noticed it's a modified puzzle lock, which is really neat, but I loved the functionality of silencing my phone from the lock screen.
Additionally, regarding the puzzle lock, I noticed the outline for where the puzzle piece fits is above where the piece actually needs to be to unlock the phone... any fix for that? Really a minor issue though, just wondered if it's something you knew about or something local on my phone!

I think I did a tutorial on how to change to aosp lock.
Before you do that though, go into /data/local and look for a file called "enable glass lock". If it's there, delete it. ciscogee's ics it's built on trailblazers mods, which include aosp lock.
