Developing a Songbird Mobile app - Android Software Development

I'm very inexperienced in major coding out side of web development, none the less using coding to make a complex app for Android and webos.
I am hoping for some help on this project that I want to freely contribute to the songbird project. This will be a full media app much like doubletwist is but with more features and 100% syncing with songbird and other programs.
I have had a design and layout already thought up and designed. That's mostly what I'm good at LOL. As well as a development outline for the progress of each version building up the features thought of and planned. Would post a concept image of it but I'm typing this from my phone and can't.
Really hoping this works out as I believe this can be a huge media player in the mobile realm.
If you are interested and or could help me email me drybones5 at gmail dot com (can't link it in the post? What?)

Looking for a DEV who would like to create a forum App

The forum in question is Honda-tech.com. A honda enthusiast forum (the largest of its kind). Lots and lots of users on there who would love to access the site through an app and benefit from not having to go through their mobile browsers. A large diversity of iOS and Android users as well.
The topic of an app has been discussed on the forum plenty of times but no one has taken the initiative to actually look into getting one made. I though I would post on the dev site(s) to see if anyone would like to create an app. I am somewhat adept at the Android OS but not so much as far as app dev goes. I have no clue as to how hard this task would be, however if anyone is interested in creating something like this please let me know and maybe we can get this ball rolling.
Also, tapatalk has been discussed but an app is preferred.
Thanks guys.
problem solved
I'm planning on attempting to make a forum app for bungie.net once done shouldn't be hard to adapt to other forums.
Won't be as fast as tapatalk bc I assume they use a custom spy, y they need form support. Could be wrong. Tapatalk is a nice app.
I made a site a while ago that basically works the same way as tapatalk, but with more functionality so it would function like an app you launched through your browser. You can filter out images, specific people, set the OP to be in a separate column, and more. Since it was a website it used cURL so the initial load was rather slow but it also caches all of the pages locally and on the server so load times were pretty minimal after the first grab. It doesn't require any modification on the forum's end but it only reads vBulletin as of now (it could probably be adapted though). I haven't checked, but it should work for any mobile device with a decent browser (Android, iOS, Opera Mobile 10+) and it could possibly be made into an app. This was part of a large project I was working on but got burnt out on so I am not sure what all needs to be finished. PM me if that is interesting.
I would love to see an example of this, it doesnt have to be made into an app, if it functions in browser would be good enough. Porting over to an app would require alot of work, tho the logic would be helpful.
+1 for honda tech app...
Make one for socalcivic.com also..
Ep3
Would love to see a forum app for http://ubuntuforums.org/ also, so would a lot of other people:

Need an App Idea

Hello All,
Next semester is my final semester at college (I'm finally graduating in May ) and I have been wanting to develop an App for my final Senior Project.
So I wanted to get some app ideas from you guys, something useful to develop.
Thanks
how about this:
Create an app that holds a picture for a calendar event, when this app is run, I want to be able to make a photo, and post it in my agenda.
Think flyers and posters! I'm getting tired of the fact theres no app out there that can do this. I've wanted this for 5 years now!
You would make my day!

I'd like to see some form of dedicated forum browser or plugin that can take the information from a message board like this one and make it easier to view on a mobile. I know there's an app that does something like that already but that requires a plugin for the forum and I'm refusing to pay for an app that will only read boards with that plugin.
If it can display mobile sites in a way that they're meant to be viewed that'd also be good (have a look at mobile.bcfc.com in various mobile browsers).
Thanks for the ideas guys, but I might have found a great idea. I'll be doing a little more research on it.
Thanks
Outlook Sync app for Android without going through the cloud!
A content management system client that can be hooked to any enterprise CMS. You can add support for popular ones and user can pick one during setup.
Heres an idea....

[Q] Android Widget Development Tool

Hi,
Im interested in creating some widgets for android, but I dont want to go the full blown development way. (frankly I dont have the time).
I know there is App Inventor (doesnt do widgets) and Eclipse (requires more indepth knowledge).
So what other development tools are out there, and your experiences with them?
Eclipse is a tool for full-on development. It is useful as a text editor and debugger. It has tons of great features; the Android plug-in makes developing and testing an app much easier. I have only looked at the app inventor for about an hour.
I don't think there is any way to simplify development without knowledge of how the language interacts with the hardware.
If you have knowledge of java, work through Google's android tutorials. One focuses on widgets.

Thanks cupcake for the reply.
I don't think ill find the time to do this right now

Bounty for the DEAF

I have 2 requests. and i will pay a bounty on these. Name your price(be reasonable im the only one paying you) (open to making one reasonable large payment and the several smaller ones over the year as i know this will require a lot of work)
I am involved in a volunteer work with the deaf and hard of hearing, so i use my phone a lot to show videos and various other things. so i need it to be fully functional for all of this.
1st) There is an app on the itunes app store called cienega, I need this app stable on android or one that does the same thing. this will not be for just me but will actually get downloaded by hundreds of people, potentially thousands.
2nd) if anyone that can mod a video player either the stock or get the vlc player to work on a mobile device that will recognize chapter markers embedded in a video file. I have sample videos to work with so you can see what im trying to acheive.
My time is too occupied to focus enough on it to get it done. especially in a timely manner. Im willing to Pay $50 up front and work out whatever else we need to, to make it happen. please pm me here if you are interested. only serious legitimate developers need pm me. no novice or hey ill give it a shot kind of people, show me what youve done before, before you start trying to get me to pay you.
@1 Elaborate what this app does what exactly you need.
The app plays a specific video file which I can provide you with it groups all of them into submission chapters and categories, I need someone that can take an app that is designed for iPhone /iPod / iPad and make it work on android. The developers of it made it for free for our group but they have no interest in android or developing for android so I'm hiring out to take this application and get it working on android devices

[Q] Reading materials and tutorials for a noob programmer

Well, I've started learning Java and I read somewhere that Java is used to program apps for Android. Now, I'm not looking to make complex games and apps, more like a "database" app to store data and maybe some form of note taking application to start off with. Can you guys recommend reading material, tutorials and programs to further my eduction? I've hit a bit of a rough spot so far.
Android has a notepad tutorial you can start there for free lol
http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/notepad/index.html
And when I started most people said "Hello, Android" was the best for beginners.
You can also check www.apress.com they have a decent array for books for android,java...etc Any of those books can be purchased from them directly or from amazon.com

The Apress books are very helpful with the examples in code. It helped me a lot and it still does. I've got Beginning Android 2. I didn't read the book from a to z, I just started trying stuff and search a lot on the internet, there are a lot of examples out there.
my favorite eclipse/java learning tips
i spent 25+ years developing on mainframes, then windows pcs, and now phones! what a ride!
my biggest hurdle was transforming my development thinking style from linear (fortran-77, Macro-32, pascal, assembler...) to the object-oriented mode. Classes, instantiation, "this", blew me away for awhile....ok, still does sometimes...
I programmed for the windows mobile phone for 2 years and wrote most of the stuff in lua. You can see some of the windows mobile clocks i designed here:

here are the books and web sites that have helped me the most:
"Hello, Android", The Pragmatic Programmers, Ed Burnette, ISBN: 978-1-93435-656-2
"Beginning Android Application Development", Wrox, Wei-Meng Lee, ISBN: 978-1-118-01711-1
here are several great web sites:

I hope those help.

I'd not wrote any code in java before I've started building apps for android. Only experience with VHDL, TCL, Makefiles and the basis of C++ and visual basic.
I think it is good to know the basis of Java and OOP but not necessary to be a java pro before you can start with android.
I've learned most from just start with simple android examples an try to understand what they do. If you have a question look on the internet and if you can't find the answer, just ask the question. There are a lot people willing to help.
I usually use the stackoverflow website (http://stackoverflow.com) to post my questions and looking for answers. When you'll be deep in development, these guys will be useful
