So here's what I have noticed - the video camera defaults to h263 with mpeg4 being grayed out (video quality default being 'High(30)'). I can choose to MPEG4 by setting the video quality to Custom - but even with it set at mpeg4 the captured videos are still encoded with h263 instead. Does this behave this way for others?

i can second this
I just checked some videos I made and they are H.263. This is one of the reasons I went back to the liberated rom. Doesn't seem like 263 is as compatible as mpeg4.
Yeah - I went back as well as I noticed vibrate didn't work. Still - 2.2 was great otherwise.
The camera in general is not very good in CM6 right now. This needs a lot of improvement. I am using Camera 360 app because it basically enhances the crappy photos that CM6 captures lol. They actually turn out pretty well this way!

I have been experimenting with video playback on the Tytyn, but am becoming disillusioned with the results!
I use PocketDivX Encoder 0.3.60, to convert using 2 pass xvid and b frames, and TCPMP, and the results were truly stunning on my old Kjam.
Whatever I try with the new Tytyn, does not even come close to the performance I was getting on my old device.
Does any one have any suggestions or recommend a successful encoding method that actually works on the Tytyn. I would like to hear from anyone who has managed to get a playback quality the same as the Kjam/Wizard i.e smooth video without loss of lipsync or jerky framerate.
Thanks
search for TYTN + TCPMP on this forum... this has been discussed A LOT.

Hi there & welcome to our videoplayback problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=354421#354421
It's not all bad, but I can't find any workaround for the meantime. Look out for The CorePlayer (The new TCPMP), hopefully when released, it will address these issues we have discovered. Meantime I am using 'ImToo_DVD 2 Ipod Converter' , which converts to high quality Mp4 format and plays back just fine for now and is definately on par with Divx/Xvid AVI encoding at 768kbps! It also converts a whole film in practically 20 mins plus compared to PocketDivx_Encoder or DVDx.
I have tried the Im too to ipod converter, and have had some very pleasing results.
Could you possibly let me know what settings you have checked/unchecked in TCPMP, for optimum playback of the resulting mp4 files?
Thank you very much, your help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Pergolesi
yeah I had a good experience converting to mpeg4 except the filesize was much larger (almost twice the size as divx) is this the norm cause of divx compression?
MPEG4 Videos in TCPMP
Personally, I use the following settings for ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter:
Video Bit rate:512 or 768 (difference is negligable but size is better @ 512kbps)
Audio Bit Rate:64
Sample rate:22050
Channels:2
Video Size:320x240
Profile: iPod MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4)
Zoom:Full (keep aspect ratio)
Split:Infinite (though it's nice to have a DVD encoded in the chapters it came in - TCPMP will play them in the correct order if saved as 'playlist')
**Do Check the Audio settings (under the Menu bar) as your DVD will probably have options for differnt Audio i.e English.
I know more settings are available, but this is a short-term fix for me (with acceptable results for me) until the new 'CorePlayer' is released.
In TCPMP the settings really don't make much of a difference either, but just make sure you have 'Video' set to 'Rawframebuffer' mode. I have found that all AVI and MP4 playback without major gripes, but the MP4 gets better results whilst benchmarking using 'ATI decoder'. Fat load of good that does you when it comes to playback though (back to rawframebuffer mode).
P.S. for smaller filesizes, just reduce the video bit rate like you would in AVI encoding.
MPEG4 Videos in TCPMP
Great info, I'm sure others will find this just as helpful as I have.
Thanks again.

In TCMP what is the best setting, GDI or RAWFRAMEBUFFER?
Im asking this because on my tytn i can use both of them without problems.

I use Rawframeuffer mode, but GDI will do also. Though benchmarking yields better results in Rawframebuffer mode for me.
I'm using TCPMP. I set ATI IMAGEON Decoder on.
When it start, the screen is not viewable.
But I press the action button, when the movie plays it is normal.
When I paused and resume, video play with low frame rate.
I goto Option, Speed, Select 100%, it's normal.
Hiya folks since all of us are using the X10, I thought I'd ask for some help.
Recently I converted a bunch of videos to MP4 using the H.264 & ACC audio codec. At first they seem to play without a glitch but after 15-20secs into it, the visual side will pause and the audio continues. So naturally, I feel, I'm encoding them with the wrong settings.
Does anyone have any pointers here? What works for you and keeps the video quality at the optimal quality without those annoying pauses?
Hi - I'm using Videora Android converter.... selected the HTC Magic device (there wasn't an x10 option!).. and H.264 480x320 768kbs stereo/128Kbps profile..
Works really well.. great quality and no jerkiness.
I use SUPER to convert my 1080p files. Heres my settings
H.264/AVC
AAC LC
848x480
29 FPS
1584kbps Video Bitrate
Hi Quality
44100
Stereo
128kbps Audio Bitrate
I've used Super and TMPGEnc to try to convert some Divx files to MP4. For some reason the audio is always out of sync on the converted video when I play it back on the X10. I can't figure it out. I'm using different resolutions with a bitrate of about 1500kbps and always sticking to AAC LC for the audio. Is anyone see the same problem or have a suggestion to fix?
I recorded a video at 720 res but when I play it in windows media player it does not look like high def? I uploaded the same video to youtube which gives me the option to play it at 720p. Does anyone know how to adjust this in windows media player?
ive also recorded some videos in 720 and they don't really look like 720 quality but they are still in 720 res... in your WMP what res does it say the video is playing in?
also i believe the dInc records videos in 3gp so I'm not sure WMP is even supposed to open them... have you tried opening the file with quicktime player? (free from apple.com)
I have noticed this also, with the first OTA I recorded a video at 720p with the encoding type set to H.264 and the video looked great. Now with the current leaked OTA (8-1-10) this is no longer a option as soon as I select H.264 as the encoding type I default to a res of WVGA 800x480 and not given the option to select 720p?
I have noticed that the video does say 1200x720 just the quality doe not look it. I also just tried opening the file in quicktime still looks the same.

h.264 with adjust settings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2niuqRIcrQ
mpeg4 800x480 wvga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGSZ-cpL_us
audio quality doesnt seem to change at all except with mpeg4 800x480 where it seems to improve a little bit.
I'd repost these samples here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711808
Thanks!
my eyes must be playing tricks on me as i don't see that much of a difference...

Extremely simple and easy to use Video converter handling almost any video format known to man.
It even has a built in android preset for making videos work with android devices.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For anyone who is curious, this is my custom general purpose android preset (Based of the 800x480 Android Preset)
Under the advanced config settings:
1. Framesize: Custom 720x400 (For 16x9 content) 640x480 (for 4x3 content)
2. Choose Video Codec as H.264
3. Custom bitrate as 700 kbps (or 1400 kbps for higher quality but bigger filesize)
4. Leave everything else as default.
Audio:
128k AAC Stereo audio
Thanks for this. I've been using Freemake for quite sometime. Always works great.
Is this preset android video player ready? I'm all for software players like MX player or Mobo player on android, but I'm EXTREMELY curious why a standard mp4 file I d/l from the internet cannot be played by the default android (gallery / video??) player.
I want to know what the video spec the tegra2 can play at hardware level, maximum video dimensions, bit rate etc.... Anyone know?

Max. 720p H.264 high-profile and 1080p baseline-profile do play with HW acceleration. There was some limit on bitrate, but it's so high that you shouldn't need to worry about that.
