Battery not charging to 100%

Been running Android for over a week now and this morning when pulling the phone of the charger I noticed it was only at 89%. This is from a full overnight charge.
Got to work and it had dropped to 85% (Watching videos) and plugged it into my laptop at work and it again only charged to 89%
Anyone else had the same issue. Will cut back to Windows to see if it goes further.

Hello dude!
Try removing the battery, wait a few minutes and put it again. See what happen.
Sometimes it is a error when the driver is "reading" the battery settings/status.

Same with me, only 90% with all night chage

Same here mine will only charge to 93% while charging overnight

Rebooting into womo and it then proceeded to charge to 100%.
Not a major but a bug that needs investigating.

also had this issue a user responded to me on the builds thread, he said to let it run down to 5% and plug the charger back in. also the one about booting to wm then back on android should fix it.

Same here at 94%. Seems to be a common problem...

Yes, I've got a same problem.

I've heard that no Charging-Stop exists (in kernel), so you may "destroy" your battery because it is overcharging ... so be careful

mine stops at 93%
yeah im a bit scared for my battery...ive been charging it almost twice a day now cause it dies so fast
i even have SetCPU with the profiles from the other thread, but its still draining REALLY fast...
i hope this doesnt have any permanent damage to the battery :S

where did you hear that? can you confirm?

The no stop sounds like complete nonsense. For one, it would be an obvious massive problem so the devs would have worked on it. Two, if you can detect battery charge it would be really easy to make it stop. Three, if it didn't stop, why did it used to halt at 98% for most people?

Actually _everyone_ can get this problem - after reboot u won't able to launch any external exe (exe from rom will work).
It happen because something sometimes can be corrupted during WM shutdown...
I got this problem two times Both time need to hard reset device.
So I recommend to everyone make backups!
So is it confirmed that robot voice (apt voice ) issue fixed now?

I have the same problem. HTC wildfire.

Try recalibrating the battery:
1. Turn off all uncessesary apps in the background.
2. Let the battery of the phone run out until it turns its self off.
3. Take out the battery for 2 minutes
4. Put the battery back in and charge the battery until it is fully charged "At least 4 hours"
5. Once it has charged take the battery out for 2 minutes then put it back in and boot the phone up

I managed
The phone was on and charging all night and it was at 97%. I turned off the phone and left it plugged for couple of hours, on and its 100%. Simples

my guess will be no on this. As i think that the batteries are different. and it might be something with batteries that are in droid devices perhaps.

I think it should work as it's wiping battery stats in android

im trying it too as we speak

I'm pretty sure that calibration will not work currently in android properly. Cottulla posted a few days back that the battery driver is still incomplete and currently only supports reading battery state and that the write too part of the driver has not been implemented. When the driver is complete and has full read/write battery function this procedure should work better.

thats' true i didn't know that . it may be impossible to wipe battery stats this way
....

My battery wasnt calibrated properly and wudnt charge over 90%. Someone in this forum told me to switch off and charge until green and then switch it on. Now my battery seems calibrated plus i got 2 days of use on moderate use

but ive seen several posts of people calibrating their battery in winmo and reporting better battery life....idk maybe placebo

i will try this too. i myself had an issue today. i'm using chuckyrom right now. i use it at work so i can turn the "phone" off while at work. so it is in airplane mode. i only used the phone today to check the time and played some uno on a break. my battery stayed on 100% for 5 hours. so i turned the phone off, took the battery out for 1 minute. put the battery back in and turned the hd2 on. it was still on 100%. 4 hours later it was down to 94%. i just didn't think that a true battery reading. most days when i have the "phone" turned on at work i only have 10% battery left by the end of the day... just seemed odd to me. idk.

Well, I don't know if this works 'properly' or not but it's certainly had an impact so it's doing something right.
Prior to the calibration I could only charge to 95% or so. Phone now seems to be charging to 100% all the time which is good. Battery life also seems great, not sure if this is down to the calibration or not as I moved to Darkstone V2 (16/08/10) release the day before so don't have a baseline.
FYI, as I type this I'm on 49% battery remaining after being unplugged for 10hrs. Fairly light usage, couple of calls; some texting but quite a lot of browsing and XDA App on 3G and WiFi.
Amazing progress the devs are making. Have been running various builds of Android for a week or so no and haven't yet had to revert to WiMo.

Anyone able to do this with mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense? The charge indicator LED never changes to green.

Yeah, its hard to remember to take a screenshot before you plug it in (or in my case...reboot the phone)
You may want to try BatterySnap...its a free app in the market which gives you a great battery widget, plus a lot of really useful graphs and information.
I upgraded to Froyostone on the 12th...thats why the information is only going back that far...but as you can see, 18-19 hours a day at moderate usage is what I am getting on a regular basis

Power the phone off...then charge till you get a green light (Maybe even for an extra 10 minutes or so)...power the phone back up and plug into your charger. now it should charge up to 100%
I dont know if the battery itself is limiting the charge, or if its just the battery meter that is not displaying correctly...Anyhow, the above method corrects it for me whan this happens on my phone.

AND This is my first WM device, have had iPhones for the past 2 years lol!

Just to confirm, I'm on ChuckyDroidROM with mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.5b.
- I can charge to green when the phone is powered off.
- I cannot charge to green in ChuckyDroidROM WM (says 100 in Battery screen, just no green LED)
- I cannot charge to green in mattc Leo + Froyo
w/Sense (stays at 98 in Battery screen)

Hi i am on ChuckyDroid ROM 2.12.50 Radio and darkstones 2.1 build.
have don successfully the trick in post 1.
Now having 100% in the taskbar and i will report if the battery life have improved.

Didn't see any relevant threads from a Google search, or a search on here. It's not so much an issue, as it is a potential bug. Sometimes the charge level never goes above 99%. It'll charge from say...70%, to 99%, and never get to 100%. I'm not sure if this is my phone, the battery, or an Android bug. I'm using Hyperdroid with Miri's V19 ROM.

Many suggest to power off your phone at the moment to let it finished charging...

I notice this with my phone too. It takes ages, if ever to get to 100%. When this happens I just boot back into winmo and let it charge there. usually if i'm at 99% in android it only takes about 5 minutes or so for my phone to hit 100% in winmo

as i stated before.
Boot to windows mobile once and charge to 100% make sure you are either hooked up to your charger or connected via active sync (other wise you cant get to your SD card) when the power indicator is Green boot to android.
Now you can drain your batt and charge back to 100%. Quic n dirty fix.

Something that worked for me : power off your phone, remove your battery for 1mn or so, and then it should fully charge in WM and Android.

Yeah thats all fun and games but then you have like 99% when you are back in android and the next time you have to charge you wil have to do it all over again.
If you charge it to 100% in winmo and keep it charging while booting android and you wil start with 100% bat and you wil keep it charging to 100% it may take a tad longer then in winmo but it wil get there every time. I ran my phone for about 3 weeks nonstop and full 100% every time i charged.

Yeah the battery doesn't always seem to charge to 100%
I've been following the IRC Logs and they say to charge in windows mobile sometimes as it could potentially effect your battery if it charges to 90% or 96% etc..

Has worked for me in the past...but changed my build so many times that i'm just living with the bug tbh

Its so funny all those big workarounds.
Wile all you need to do is charge your phone to 100% boot android while keeping it at 100% and u are home free but it seems my words are lost against a storm of nothingness.

It's because no method works 100%...the more options there are the more likely one will work!

I used to have that problem aswell. But after like 2 or 3 unsuccesful charges it started charging all the way to 100% without any problems at all. I also noticed that disabling data connection fixes the problem. For me atleast.

I bought this Hero off eBay, and it was dodgy since the begining.
The phone had cyanogen, and was restarting itself occasionally.
So i wiped it, installed 2.1 and it got fixed, but now i have a problem with battery drainage.
Its insance, 10minutes-10% im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. with or without wifi/3d turned on, its just riddiculous.
I borrowed battery from a friend, and that didint make any change, i installed latest update from the autoupdate in the phone and still its bad. I read somewhere here that its faulty email app that keeps on trying to sync and drains battery, how do i fix that ?
I did a full wipe, cleared cache and everything back to factory settings, with no apps installed it goes from 100% to 0% in an hour.
I downloaded 2.1 from some android forum, as i was unable to find one here (there are only links to 1.5 on the xda.wiki WHY?)
If you can point me to a proper 2.1 (or higher?) software to download that doesnt do this crazy **** i'll be happy as infant on crack.

Try calibrating your battery it gave me a huge boost on my hero... went from getting 16hours day.. to about 30hours on a single charge!!
Every time you flash a new ROM you need to calibrate your battery. The battery meter in the OS (Android in this case) is generated based on the battery stats file.
Battery stats is erased when you flash a new ROM.
Easiest method of battery calibration when you're intending on flashing a ROM:
Ensure battery is fully charged according to the OS. Switch phone off, unplug charger and plug back in. Once light is green, leave charging for another 30 minutes (light goes green at approx 95% charge).
Switch on, flash ROM. Allow first boot to complete.
Shut phone off. Disconnect charger. Remove battery. Replace battery. Place on charge, light green, leave charging another 30 minutes, yadda yadda. Switch phone on, boot immediately to recovery. Wipe battery stats.
Boot phone up. Now would be a good time to install JuicePlotter. Use as normal. Do not charge, let the battery run down completely. When the phone shuts itself off, power it back on. Repeat process until it won't switch on anymore.
Remove the battery. Put the battery back. Turn the phone on. Repeat until it won't turn on anymore.
Now charge the battery on the mains to 100% while the phone is off, keep charging for 30 minutes after light goes green. Power on. Voila, fully calibrated battery.
The last part, run until completely dead and charge only needs to be done once in a while (this is calibrating the battery innards, not the battery stats)

hah, yea thats what i accidentally figured. phone was switching off, but when i powered it back on it had 30%.. and it was like that 3 or 4 times.
I ran it down completely and now am charging it till max, we'll see what happens. at worst i'lkl start your process from the beginning thx !

it diidnt help I did what you quoted step by step and its still running down the battery like crazy :/ what else can i do ? im thinking of switching to 1.5 but thats just not progressive and my friends phone is running fine on 2.1, with the same battery even.

That really wierd... its not the battery if you have tried using different ones. Its not the ROM if u have changed it.
Have you tried disabling auto-updates? and auto-checks for emails. Which email client do you have? you should find the option to "sync-never" in the app settings.
Buying it from ebay is kinda ominous though.. was it described as faulty? perhaps you could contact the seller and request a refund is all else fails?

you can try using setcpu to underclock the cpu.
i have similar situation as you. before going to bed around 11pm, it showed 50% left, turned on airplane mode, then in the morning around 6am, phone was powered off.
now it has been 2 days, still have 20% left.

Did you ever take into consideration that some part of the hardware might be damaged?
Devices that got water damaged, sometimes show weird symptoms as well:
- They still boot up and seem to work well from the first sight
- The battery drains very quickly
- Some of the peripherals are not working stable or not starting up anymore (e.g. wifi, bt, gps)
- Other crazy things might happen as well (e.g. random reboots, backlight flicker, etc.)
So you might have a look at the mainboard. Red stickers indicate water damage!

Yea but if it were damaged would it show 50% battery after restarting thinking it had reached 5% ? i dont have the tools or will to unscrew it.
i paid 100 pounds fo it, the normal price of a used hero, but the auction said "phone restarts for no reason" and they do not accept returns, so im propably screwed :I

I had an old blackberry 8300 curve, i had it in the bathroom while i was showering, got too moist, turned the detection pads red but phone seemed to work fine after i dried it out. But the battery went to crap progressively in the manner. I would charge to 100%, take it off the charger and maybe an hour it would say less than 10%, do a battery pull and it would go back up to maybe 80% and last maybr another hour and keep doing that till it would normally drain on top od the numerous reboots i would be doing until eventually it would just drain and die.

Can dead pixels cause this ? i have like three.. but then again why would it show 50% after restarting from 5%..
the thing is its not draining the battery, just registering it wrong

No, but i have a samsung galaxy tab and experience similar symtoms. It does not bother me too much, the battery life is still great. Just the percentage is off and i need to restart from time to time.
I read similar complaint from droid x forum too.

I flashed original rom but my battery behavior is still like on 2.3.5 RC4. Charge to 99% and drains very fast. Did someone know how to get back it original life. I tried battery calibrators from the market and battery wipe from clockwork mod but no result

If your optimus is old it is normal that battery life will get worser and worser ... All you can do is get new battery of ebay like I did and now my battery life is normal ...

It's not old. Its younger than a year. Battery life was good and on swift it last long and charge to 100% but after last time i flashed 2.3.5 rc4 i calibrate it (to try it last longer like on other roms) and now even on stock it drains like on rc4 and not charged to 100%

Use spare parts to see is there app that drain battery.

install "batterycalibration" from market, charge to 100% and calibrate your battery for this rom

yeah, that happens to most people.
unplug, use a few seconds or 1min or so and plugin and wait if its fully charged, it could be that you have to do that a few times (2-3x)

Your not alone on this, same thing with me.
I have ordered another battery from ebay but dont really know why all of a sudden this just began happening whilst using the same Rom which I think has something to do with it.
I use a program from Market called Android Booster to terminate running programs that start up or dont close once started, as sometimes if you use your camera, it will be still running, even if you close it up so hence battery life turns crap.
But also, if somebody phones me for 5 minutes this also nearly drains my battery, and I have everything also turned off. (WLAN, Blutooth, Data, GPS etc).
So dont know why this is suddenly heavy on the battery as it never seemed to do this when first installed.
There you have it, your not alone but think I will migrate to another or buy another phone as I think its pathetic to have to charge one's phone everyday, or twice a day if you chat to somebody for 5 minutes as it defeats the purpose.

Try charging through the wall charger instead of through the USB port on your pc. Worked for me then, recalibrate.

Turning off 3G when not needed?
Try turning 2G Network only in Wireless and Network --> Mobile Network

I got my brand new battery and even charged it up via Power Supply from the wall.
Have run the phone only on 2G network only box ticked and everything else turned off (and I mean nearly everything) and for whatever reason, the Battery new or old still does not last long.
Even after it charges to 99% says its charged, it discharges very fast, or if somebody phones you and you only talk for 2 minutes the battery drops to like near 30% which is pathetic.
Something is sucking the life out of the battery folks with these Rom's so can somebody exactly put the food on the table here and say, whats up?

What ROM are you using? It takes some time to charge up the battery and even if it says '99%' that doesn't always mean that it is. What is the capacity of the battery? I'd say charge it for about 6 hours and see then.

Problem at present seems to be solved now.
Yesterday and before I had been using Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC4.
I then uninstalled a stack of apps that I only used every so often and now its like back to normal so I guess it must have been those apps installed.
Folks here is a big tip. Uninstall Apps to test your battery to find out which one is the Energy Hog because even if you are not using them, they seem to be running due to either bad programming of the app or a system management issue related connection between the two.
Now, I have just updated to Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC5 and will certainly think twice prior to installing a bunch of things for the sake of installing apps.
