[Q] how does Android keep track of your apps?? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I'm a bit confuse about how Android keep track of what application I have downloaded and installed from previous "Android builds". I wipe my sd card often to try new android builds and yet Android will sync application from previous build.
I know it get information from the Google Account I enter when Android first boot. But where do I keep this information "updated"...because sometimes it automatically install some old application/games from weeks back. (which i'm pretty sure I have uninstalled)

[Q] Unable to delete Google account.

Platform: HTC-HD2
Dual boot: Windows mobile 6.5 & Android 2.2
Android build: FroyoStone Sense V2
Problem: Unable to delete third party Google account from device under Android 2.2.
Bought this phone unlocked from ebay .
Have tried steps under settings/Accounts & sync/Google/ remove account/ only get a massage asking to go to settings, under privacy and reset the phone, which have not been able to find. The only place I’ve found which allows you to delete accounts and personal data is under Settings/ SD & phone storage /Factory data reset. I’ve tried repeatedly resetting phone from that selection and still will not remove Google account or the third party Gmail account which persistently pops up asking me to sign in.
Please advice.
Anything on the Android build you need? Personally, I'd be hesitant on running it if I bought from ebay. I'd flash a new WM rom (and radio if needed) and then download my preference of Android builds. (Directions for all this are on the forums).
Clear defaults and cache inside setting/applications
i just had the same issue with a used hd2 i bought with the dual boot...answer was just giving to me earlier on this site. go into file explorer in windows, sd card>android and delete the data img file and boot up heret.. it will create a new data img with a fresh copy of android.. it will take a few mins longer then usual when booting up android as its creating a new image..and you should be good to go..

[Q] Effects after changing android build/version

What happens when you change to another android-build?
What will happen with the stuff I have bought on android market from the first build?
Can you have a number of different androidfolders on your SD card and just boot which ever you want from Windows mobile?
I have changed builds a few times and for me, all my apps downloaded again onto the new build no problem. It should do same for you, assuming you have a Google account linked to your phone. Just open Market and it should do it from there
As for paid apps, can't say for sure I've only downloaded free apps but should be the same

(Q) Unable to delete primary google account

Platform: HTC-HD2
Android 2.2 DFT (31-12-2010)
Problem: Unable to delete primary Google account from device under Android 2.2.
Got this phone from a friend, but his google account is still linked at Market. I already created a new one for myself, but I can't install any apps, due to the linkage between his google account and Market. t
Did already tried steps under settings/Accounts & sync/Google/ remove account/ only get a massage asking to go to settings, under privacy and reset the phone, which have not been able to find. The only place I’ve found which allows you to delete accounts and personal data is under Settings/ SD & phone storage /Factory data reset. I’ve tried repeatedly resetting phone from that selection and still will not remove Google account. Resetting by deleting img-file on /sd/android works either, since there is no such file there...
Anyone a solution?
Thanks!
same problem
I just picked up a HD2 cheap just so I could play with the Android part of it..Love playing with phones so I'm not a pro quite yet but it sounds like maybe you need to re-install Android 2.2 with DFT. That should give you a clean fresh rom install. Like I said, I just started on the HD2 so I might be wrong but it might be worth a shot.
There are different ways to do it.
I would suggest to make a fresh install of your chosen rom.
If you want to keep existing rom then you need to answear this. What magldr version are you using? (To check the version, turn off phone, turn on and then quickly after hold power button till you get to magldr, check version, post it here.)

[Q] Android market purchased apps, wiping SD cards

I tried searching for the answer to my question in multiple forums as well as reading the suggested similar threads, but didn't get a definitive answer. Apologies if this has been resolved, if someone could point me to the right thread.
If I wipe my SD install of CM7 without backing up the apps (or if something happens between backups), will Android Market have the full list of apps that I purchased and downloaded for me to re-download to my NC?
I ask because I've fiddled with different SD cards and different ROMs, and each time I look at the Market the list of apps I've downloaded (all free so far, until I get this question answered ) are different and incomplete.
I saw that there is an Eris Market Fix for this issue. Does Google put some sort of unique identifier file on each gapps install to cause this? According to their FAQ all you need to do is log into the same Google account for a complete history of (re-downloadable) apps in the My Apps area, but that hasn't been the case for me.
All paid apps will remain listed in the Market forever, but not free apps. On the other hand, on the first install of a new Android device, it will attempt to sync up with the apps you had installed previous (free and paid).
The Android Marketplace site does remember free apps however, and you can use that to push previously installed applications to a new device.
But keep in mind, free or paid, the Market only remembers that you downloaded them. It will not retain any data for those applications. That's where software like Titanium Backup comes in.
Thanks, that's very helpful! I just got Ti Backup Pro, using in conjunction with Dropbox, I was worried about my paid apps not showing up as such whenever I wipe / update my SD cards

Nook Color rooted to CM7 - Issue with Android Market auto downloading the B&N Market

Nook Color rooted to CM7 - Issue with Android Market auto downloading the B&N Market
So, I followed the steps below to root my Nook Color over to CM7. I'll get to the actual problem in the section below:
1. Wrote 3.2.0.1 version of CWR to a 2gb SD.
2. Moved 150 nightly zip and gapps 20110613 zip over to SD.
3. Booted into CWR, went to Mounts & Storage, formatted /data, formatted /system, formatted /cache. Rebooted back to CWR.
4. Formatted dalvik cache. Rebooted back to CWR.
5. Installed 150 nightly build from zip, then installed gapps from zip.
6. Rebooted with SD card pulled, got the loading screen and CM7 loads fine.
7. Get to the Google account setup, skipped.
8. Enabled Wi-Fi, went to Android Market and it asked me to login my google account.
So this is where the problem occurs. The Android Market app (once I'm logged in) is the neutered B&N Market. When I look up certain apps, they don't show a download link (because it's as if the device knows it's not supposed to access Facebook, Foursquare, Words with Friends, etc.
So, I go to applications -> downloaded and I see Market in the list. I go to the details, and select "Uinstall update". Once that happens, I'm able to launch market and it takes me to the real Android Market (green background) But as soon as I download a few apps, when I close the market, and reopen, I get the B&N market again. And if I got to Applications -> Downloaded, the Market update is there again and I have to manually uninstall the update again.
What's even more strange, is that my buddy as has a Nook Color, and he followed the same steps but he doesn't get this issue. His android market has been the real one from the moment he first booted up. He does also have an android handset though, so I'm wondering what the deal is with my NC.
TLDR: my rooted Nook Color constantly force updates my Android Market to the B&N Android Market which looks and acts completely different. I can uninstall the update, but it immediately redownloads and installs itself again.
Quick edit: The market I'm referring to as B&N market may not actually be the B&N version of Android Market. The version of "Market" after the update is 3.0.27. The version I have before the update hits automatically is 2.3.6.
The problem is, 2.3.6 lets me see and install all apps from Market. Whereas the 3.0 version doesn't let me download and install things like FB, Foursquare, Angry Birds, Words with Friends, etc. In some cases, I don't even find them in the search results.
That is the "new" market that all the other posters on that subject are complaining about. Your problem is not unique (it's not even unique to the Nook, some other CM7 installs for other devices do the same things ours does).
The folks that keep on getting autoupdated to the new market have found some workarounds. Check the other posts (there are about three other threads active on our forum alone right now).
I currently am running the old market with no modifications. I tried the new market and found it deficient. I just hope that we can continue to uninstall updates and keep using the old market.
Fingers crossed
