Just seeing as how the people over at the I9000 board have used Kies to get the new Froyo beta builds, does anyone know if we can use the same method for our Captivate? I don't know if anyone has tried it yet, but it's better to ask than to assume!
No froyo for captivate yet, not even beta releases.
As for the I9000 build, yes you can flash it to your Captivate, would I recommend it? No, it's one of the nicer builds out there but you're stuck using the I9000 kernel and modem (Which only supports the 1900 band). On top of that it modifies your /efs folder that contains all of your network codes- sooooo I'd take a pass on this one if I were you =P
Well, I am it no hurry for Froyo, my brother has a Droid Incredible and he got it yesterday and his phone is all screwy with lots of bugs he didn't have before the update. Market apps aren't updated to use with Froyo yet according to him, I am not sure because he isn't around for me to play with his phone. I am running mone with Designgears SRE v1.2.1a custom kernel and ROM and it is the best it's ever been with Ryans's one click lagfix I am getting quadrant scores over 2500. I will wait a while once Froyo releases before I update to it. It sounds buggie and I'll wait for everyone around here to come up with root and hacks before updating.

Guys... we still haven't got a 100% working vanilla 2.1 build and you are thinking about froyo? Let's fix what is in our gardens first, and then move on.
And btw we need the kernel 2.6.33 for Froyo anyhow. As it is using some GPU features we need from that kernel.
Also Hero <-> Froyo is going to be hardplay. We need more memory on the phone to get Froyo up and smiling.
Thread's been hijacked.
Although, Feeyo has answered the question .
Thread closed - could you please post questions in the Q&A forum, not ROM development next time?
Thanks
Dave

Devs here dedicate their own free time to crunch out the ROM's, if you are so impatient no one stops you to tackle 2.2 on your own.
Haven't you already bricked three phones?
Feel free to drop some mad froyo science on us. I'll flash it. Otherwise I'm perfectly content waiting for Euguene or Sombionix to give us something actually worth waiting for.

I visit the forums almost daily and there is always somebody spewing the same "if you don't like it then make your own" statement. You guys are as bad as the people asking about new roms and 2.2. The OP has a legitimate question and he wasn't rude about it either.
I'm curious too is this because the need more then the source or are they just trying to finish up the builds they were working on before the 2.2 source came out.

LOL you guys really expect developers to drop what they were already working on just because 2.2 source was released and on top of that it was released a week ago you really think there would be a 2.2 ROM out so quickly...be realistic.

I think the devs still need the source code from vibrant froyo or vibrant froyo itself.... this is due to the differences in hardware between vibrant and international galaxy s

No, it's because they're on a message board that they can say anything they want.
You ask a legit question, but if you've spent any time on these boards you should know that a "Where's Froyo?" thread is going to get hammered. And if you didn't know that, you should go to the Development forum and find out where Froyo is. From my understanding, Eugene373 is going to drop a build soon.
Go follow any one of excellent chefs/architects that work on the vibrant. They seem to work endlessly in putting out new content and in fact eugene had posted a few times on his twitter about 2.2 and its coming along.
Do a bit of outside research and you'll get your information. There is a Jp3 froyo in the development section as well.
Its a legitimate question but common sense and just basic browsing of the dev thread would have given you a clear answer.

Sorry, the title should say LEAKED rather than RELEASED (can a mod edit?). It isn't stable, but I thought perhaps the kernel was all we needed? Just saw it was released for those phones. I figured the Sprint one should be close?

Stop asking, this is prolly the 10th thread started asking about this. It wont be ported, at least not easily. The epic is not gonna work either. The only other sgs phone that might be able to port from would be the one on USCC, but they just got their phone released

Meh... VZW is US (CDMA) only..and they didn't really advertise it.
They were busy pushing the DX and D2...
The other guys work overseas ... and apparently actually wanted to sell them.
(Though VZW did do a BOGO on the fascinates if you were lucky enough to catch it...)

There was a commercial on TV for the Fascinate from Verizon for a little while. But no, they don't really get attention without the Droid badge.
People, about building Froyo ROMs, there's more to it than just the kernel. Yes, given a kernel, something could be cooked up over time, but the only way to do it quickly is to work from the complete source of a fully functional Froyo ROM that's built specifically for the unique hardware in the Fascinate. Our Froyo will be out soon enough, so just be patient and wait please. If these others were just leaked, ours can't be far behind. ;-)

VZW chick was useless today. For grins I started grilling her on my promised 2.2 update "within a month" when I purchased the phone.
"Oh...it's coming, but we don't know how long it will be. Last time Samsung gave us an update we had to send it back to them because it required a complete system wipe...which just wasn't going to fly."
Actually, I was pretty impressed she knew who made the phone now that I think about it. Most VZW critters I've encountered didn't even have that going for them.
are there any mods in this forum? i mean really..someone needs to merge, delete, help, whatever...or how about a sticky with froyo in the title explaining that it doesnt really mater what sgs(usc?) gets it we wont until its either ota or leaked... can this happen? puhlease
Tologank, just a suggestion but I wouldn't be a **** to fallingup(angel12) BC he along with a very few other devs are the only people we have working on this phone right now. So go easy. You wouldn't talk to an angel that way would u?

Usually if its pertaining to Froyo/GB people don't mind seeing it in here. Hell, most people only view this subforum of the Fascinate and not general or any others. But you're right.
I feel like the Epic and Vibrant will get it in a few months, and then 25 years later Captivate, Mesmerize, Fascinate.

I don't see how it'd be ironic if Samsung is first.
Google worked with them to release Gingerbread on some hardware that was only slightly different from the rest of their phones... They had an experience, resource, and time advantage over every other carrier... and yet they failed.
That's ironic. Samsung had every advantage, and yet couldn't even freaking get Gingerbread out on their flagship product before someone else. Seems like more motivation to me to avoid any future Samsung products.
And yeah, where to post things seems pretty obvious to me: Any discussion thread, where we're just talking about various random things go in General, questions go in Q&A, and actual releases (or things closely related to development... random questions about a ROM wouldn't warrant a new thread) go in Development. Posting things in the wrong section just to get more eyes seems fairly silly to me... if people aren't reading General, it's probably because they aren't interested in those things, probably only wanting actual ROMs/kernels/etc. Then again, making any comment on this topic seems to be a good way to get people to just flame you.

Lol. I was actually thinking of perhaps making this Kernel Sticky. Today would be good day to start too as I have a good amount of free time. Something else I've been thinking of is making a new version of the Vibrant Bible that could have a more detailed kernel section... Since the other two Bibles are both not maintained and even became unstickied. But I don't know. What do you think? Should I look into making a newer Vibrant Bible or a Kernel Sticky?

Yes this is a great idea, let me know if you need help. Especially with the bible there are probably 20+ ROMS that are not even on that bible, maybe you can list the issues wth each particular ROM in the bible as well, this would help direct NOOBS even better!
Sounds good. However, before I begin to put it together I feel it would only be the right thing to contact the original Vibrant Bible creator and ask permission to develop a new, more detailed Bible, with an updated list of kernels and roms.
I think thats a great idea as well, maybe you could just type something up and submit it him//her and see if they want to add it to the bible?
Why don't you guys look over the Wiki and update that instead. That way we are not at the mercy of the moderators to make things sticky. And we can update it as we go. I tried keeping it up a while back but it is a daunting task without the support of the developers to help keep their part updated.
