How do we send contacts directly to Voicemail from the stock contacts app? I can't find the option anywhere.
Looks like ya might have to use a third party app. A call/sms blocker might do the trick.

Why Samsung would remove one of the best Android features is beyond me :-/
I know. Some roms have it, some don't.
Ugh. A huge disappointment for me. This is one of the things I was really looking forward to about switching to android.
Any idea what sort of third party app could do this?
Google Voice can do this... you have to give the person your google voice number, not your actual number though. Its all setup through voice.google.com
If it were me, I'd look into this program. There are a few out there that seem to do something but some also look confusing. Give this site a look see and if it looks like it might fit the bill, I think it's like 2 bucks.

P.S.
I tried looking at google voice to see if it could do this. I couldn't find it if there is this feature. Navigating through gv's help is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Now I believe this is something that has been happening since 1.5 and its a little annoying, I wanted to check with you guys to see if this too is irritating to more people.
now to send a new Text msg, I type the first couple letters of the name and wait for the possible contacts to show and select, now what irritates me is that not only do the mobile numbers show up but also their home numbers, now I know that technology has gotten better and that on some cases home numbers can receive text msgs(verizon fios customers I believe has this feature). but 99.999% of the time you are only texting mobiles.
so the 1 million dollar question, can this be modified so that it only shows mobile numbers ???
I've looked at the settings for messages and didn't find anything there, if you guys have found something please let me know.
im running dc 2.1 rom, but I've seen this on all roms used on my hero.
Im trying to remember if aosp has the same issue, maybe some aosp guys can check for me.
I had the g1 before the hero and I dont remember having this, but well its been a while.
Thanks.
I believe it just pulls up all contact information for the contact you're entering. It WOULD be nice if it had a smart feature to just show the mobile number, I agree. But I don't believe there's a setting for it.

Yeah, but I think he's talking about the default messaging app.
I dont know if everyone is aware but Sprint has text to landline. Anytime you send a text message to a landline Sprint leaves a message. Ive been using this feature for the past 6 months. It works in english and spanish. Not perfect but good enough. Im guessing its included on the simply everything plans Because I did not request any service like this. Anyway:
The Default messages app is limited to 10 contacts at a time
There also an issue with spanish characters like ó,é,i,ñ, etc. Well, its not a android issue, is that most other phones do not support these characters and the whole text message gets messed up
If I was you I would switch to Handscent.

You'll like it much better.
Amazing that it's free. I'd pay 5 bucks for it just for the voice input alone.

Handcent is a little intimidating at the beginning. Play with the options for a while and you'll get the full potential.

This is because Carriers supports Text to landline now, were you can send a text to a home phone.

But you don't have to. Works great "right out of the box"
Might just want to enable notifications from handcent and disable notifications from the Messages app.

.......cks!!! Just about every time I go to check my visual voicemail, it will stop in the middle of playing a message. Couldn't figure this out and then I realized that when I click on play in the silly Windows Media Player and then move the phone to my face so i can hear, the pause or stop buttons must be activating. Not only does the above bother me but I'd really like to use another program other than Windows Media Player. I've gone into the registry and couldn't find a way to change what media player Visual Voicemail uses. I've also looked into other visual voicemail apps because the stock version is not too pretty to look at. Any ideas? Anything? .

I agree that t-mobile's version of VVM is very disappointing, and I stopped using it after 2 days on my TP2.
Have you tried google voice? It's a great alternative, and it'll send you text message transcripts of your voicemails, in addition to archiving them as text AND audio files, off your phone....and you can always listen to them just like regular VM by dialing your gvoice number. I highly recommend it.

Thank you! I may give it a try even though I'm not a big fan of the Google cloud world. Just now trying something called Fusion Voicemail and it's UI looks much better than T-Mobile Visual, so we'll see.........

yeah, I believe Fusion is among the most popular of the 3rd-party solutions. I don't care about having an app on my phone so much as ease and convenience of message managment. gVoice isn't for everybody, but it's filling the role perfectly for me
Youmail works good also.
Thanks guys! Going to try them all, while also trying to figure out if it's possible to just change which media player the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app uses......
T-Mobile Visual Voicemail is horrible for me since the screen stays on when I put the phone to my ear. Then my ears like to tap on various buttons on the screen..
Couldn't find it by searching, is there an app or a hidden somewhere that will read the caller ID and then play the normal ring tone.
(i.e. "Incoming Call From <INSERT NAME>...."<plays ringtone>)
I wanted to try Ring Pro but didn't want to spend $3 on something that may not work.

Tasker can do that along with a million other things, it's a little pricey though.

Yeah - Trying not to spend $$$. I'm trying one of the free apps on the market to see if it does it OK. Right now it works but it uses the media volume and doesn't turn up on speaking.
Hey
can anyone suggest any app other than tasker ????

Hi everyone,
Can someone help me change the default dialer and contacts app? Coming from the iOS land, I find this extreme "blackness" of the default dialer really ugly, and thus I'm desperately trying to get rid of it by using either Contacts+ or Go Contacts. The thing is that every time I make or receive a phone call, the phone defaults to the stock dialer. After some googling around, I couldn't find any definite answers as to whether this is possible.
Many suggested going to App Management, locate the Contacts app and press the "Clear Defaults" button (same for Phone app). Unfortunately that button for both apps is disabled for me.
Any suggestions? Has anyone managed to successfully use another dialer?
Thanks in advance!
You're confusing the dialer app with what you see in call, which is separate. You can change the in call graphics with a change of framework/systemui but it takes a bit of work. Swapping the dialer app for something like ExDialer or Go Dialer won't do anything to what you see once the call is taking place.

So essentially, all these dialer apps *have* to revert to the default "in-call" screen simply because they do not support their own? Is this an Android limitation one has to live with, or is there some sort of work around?
It's a limitation of Android. The look and behaviour in call is a fundamental part of the OS, rather than something that can be changed with an APK.

That explains why I couldn't find anything on that subject. Thanks a lot!
There's nothing stopping you using a custom rom though which may be different. At the moment you're seeing the touchwiz one. If you put stock android on there instead it'd be different, on HTC and Sony phones it'd be different again, etc. Nothing is limited on android, so long as you know enough to be able to edit it. Get root access, and get talking to some custom rom developers who may be able to give you a bit of an insight on how you'd do it. It's not impossible.
Hi, My friend has the Note 7 Global Lavender version, like me, he is 82 years old and is having some trouble with answering calls because of the not-so-easy to use green phone slider. Even I sometimes have problem with this one.
So can someone help me with an alternative and a small guide on how to install it(if not like other Apps) and set it as default, so when call comes in that is the one he see? There is no need to change anything else.
Please don't refer me to google, the problem is not that there aren't any Apps but that there are too many of them, and I can't try them all until i find one without a slider but where you just push the green button to answer call - He is starting to regret he bought this phone, as it is not so friendly for old people.
I hope someone here can help.

Thank you, and yes it looks like what I wanted though it is a very sophisticated app with a lot more functions than I wanted, maybe too much - it is still for an elderly man. Also looks like there have been some complaints that you get more spam calls after you use Truecaller and that they upload your data to their servers for everyone to see - not for me!
I like to hear other options if there are some Preferebly close to the stock dialer, but without slide and only push or an option to set it yourself. And not one that takes advantage of people.
Thank you

You could try google dialer apk from apkmirror.com, it has a simple slide gesture to answer and end calls and isn't too bloated with useless features

Thank you for your answer, I will look at it but would prefer to avoid slide since that is the problem. The Note 7 has slide, but its not easy to use not even for me and I have had many phones with "slide dialer".
Finding "push button" dialer has proven to be some of a challenge, also when you take in mind it should be one not stealing your data
Hope someone can come up with a solution for this
Guess not, but i found this one and it might do the trick, testing next week when my friend available: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luckyme.dadapp2
Update: forget the app above - it works just after install but doesn't do anything when pushing the Answer button. After that it never pop up anymore . Uninstalled it!
If you can root the device and install google dialer framework , you can set the google phone app which has better slider : you just need to slide up, holding the phone icon isn't necessary. And custom roms can also be easier for him as compared to miui.
anyways, i wonder if you could find a feature in miui that makes the incoming calls screen always in 'heads up' mode. That way he just needs to touch the accept or reject. I m not sure if miui provides that

I'm sorry and tank you for your input, but I'm not rooting his phone to solve this - too many things can go wrong because you have to unlock bootloader and then install TWRP first before you can root - or so the guide here on XDA states.
I hope for a different solution
