Sorry if I sound idiotic, but could someone explain what's different between Gingerbread and Froyo? Just trying to figure out what the benefits are of using Gingerbread compared to another build. Also, does Gingerbread have Sense? Thanks!

Neither FroYo or Gingerbread come with Sense - they have nothing to do with it. If you use a build from a device that has Sense, such as Desire HD, then you will get Sense. If you use something like a Nexus One build then you won't.
As for the differences between FroYo and Gingerbread, look here.
Thanks, man!

I just got the mytouch, and I was wondering if there is a consensus best rom, our favorite rom. I saw that iced-glacier has the most replies, so I assume that probably is what is most used.
Which rom do you guys suggest I flash?
iced glacier is a very good rom if u like mysense. i personally am more of a stock type person and am loving cm7.1
personally i use cm 7.1 which is android 2.3 iced glacier among others are very strong roms. it just depends what kind of user you are. the mysense and sense have a lot of nice things to them but tend to be bloated a bit. i prefer a more basic, stock experience.
Hmm folks on this forum are a lot less opinionated than other forums.
Thanks for the input guys.

Define "best rom", you may get more responses.

I guess by best, I meant what is everyone's favorite rom.
I wondered if there is a rom that most prefer over the others. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ian currently using the gorilla sense enjoy it but I think personally ny face is the MIUI, it just needs a lite more added to it
Just my Input

Well not very impressed by the Android's joke attempt at mockery of linux ppc but I have like 10days to return the device lol so today I flashed Iced Glacier. Ill test it and see as I can't stand the stock bolted version. My next target is Evil 4G HD, GorillaSens DHD and then CM7 if I like it I just might keep the device. After all I can't refuse it for the hardware implication.
My favorite is iced glacier because I get the best battery life with moderate to heavy use.

Thanks for the input. I tried all the sense roms and I am sticking with gorilla for a little while.

In my experience, The best daily driver ROM is Iced Glacier v1.0.4 which is found here , its pretty much closest to the stock ROM feel without the bloatware, 1.7Ghz over clock ready, and is already themed and optimized. It is Mysense based (Stock Mytouch UI) which IMO not really a bad UI, to each their own... And since the Stock ROM that came with the mytouch already works very well, this definitely has the least issues if theres even any, out of all the ROMs available right now.
Alot of stable ROMs are out there right now so I still suggest you try them, and see for yourself
Best looking ROM MIUI by Evil D
If you want android AOSP based ROM, then its a given CM ROM by Zinc
Good luck and happy flashing
I am a huge fan of AOSP ROM's so as of current i am using Cyanogen's CM6.1.2RC2, I tried I/G but i felt it was slower than the stock 2.2.1. CM6.1.2RC2 FLIES when i comes to speed.
I am using cm7 ROM, love it....Before that I was using iced glacier, which was my favorite because it was most stable, and optimized..got great performance and great battery life out of it.
I love using CM7 but feel like there are always issues with bluetooth, GPS or the camera. Right now I am using Fresh, which is great, but I really prefer the stock OS over HTC Sense. Is there a ROM out there that has the HTC Kernel so that it works with all of the hardware right but does not run Sense? I'm not sure that is even possible and I might be misunderstanding the difference between the Kernel and the OS, but I thought if anyone could give me some suggestions this group is it!
If it uses the htc kernel its running sense. Non-sense roms remove the look of sense but it is still running in the background.

Simple but very helpful clarification. Thank you.
Hi. I am a rom porter/dev (depending on the definition you use) who just got a galaxy tab 10.1. Considering that our hardware is similar, I think it'd be in the best interests for galaxy tab 10.1 owners along with other tegra2 tablet owners could work together to port sense. I hope this is not against forum rules posting here, but I posted this so we can all help each other out to get sense ported.
Thank you

I just don't understand why everyone loves sense. At best, it is a battery and performance vampire. Sure, it has some neat features, but... every time I end up with an HTC device, the first thing I do is install a non-sense rom.
To each his own, though. Good luck.

To answer your question its is a very hard a daunting task.
Best way to get your device as close as sense would be flashing a galaxy tab rom port by fguy(my current rom) its under tabletroms Acer forum. And use apw Widgets. With adw ex or SPB shell
Or you can use Thors galaxy tab port at tegra owners Acer rom's forum user pimpmaneaton has ported a HTC sense theme from boosted for that rom and use apw Widgets to complete your desired look!
HTC is battery hungry and a pain in the ass or impossible so no one wants to port it plus user base won't use it as much compared to asop or stock Acer based rom's.

I would be really interested in having a full Sense themed ROM. I have a HTC Desire Z at the moment and had an HTC Hero before that. I absolutely love HTC's implementation of Sense and how things work so well. Really don't mind the extra battery use because you really can't get that kind of integration and ease of use for nothing.
Good luck finding anyone who wants to reverse engineer the closed source sense framework and then try and get it to work on our hardware.
The only successful sense ports have in the past been HTC to HTC devices such as the desire ROM to nexus one, or sensation to desire etc. It's a bit different porting sense to a device which already runs sense. The nexus one was really just a desire running aosp Android.

Dear Valued users

The question or which ROM is the stablest is one of those very subjective things. "Stable" means different things to different people, though the Gingerbread ROMs tend to be the most bug-free and feature-complete. There is a ROM index at the development forum listing most of the ROMs available here. Just try a few for yourself.
Well Ok then I mean , Which is the most feature complete??

Like I told you, the Gingerbread ROMs (though the ICS ones are also quite stable and the JB ones are getting there). Beyond that, I strongly recommend that you try several out for yourself. The development forum's index will be a good resource. Additionally, each ROM's thread's first post will describe the highlights of that particular ROM. The most active ROMs will be clustered around the top of the dev forum.
Thanks pal

I have used BlackOut Incredible v3.1, Sabsa Prime v5.0 and TrickDroid v1.1.1.. I advise you to use TricDroid if you want sense 4 and BlackOut Incredible if you want sense 3.6. Both are stable.
Here is an up-to-date list of HTC Desire HD Custom ROMs from XDA.
Here are a few older custom ROM screenshots.
I enjoyed MIUI (Gingerbread version) for ages. The ICS version is also good. Many people like CyanogenMod. As people have said, it's a personal thing based on how you enjoy the feel and look of the UI.
I currently enjoy using Blackout ICS Incredible v3.1.0 which is my first HTC Sense ROM in a long time.
Hopefully ROM threads include screenshots for you to get an idea of things. For the other specs or included or missing things, you need to read the thread.
Of course all of the Desire HD XDA ROMS are listed in the Desire HD Android Development section.
Should it be a rom with sense or not? I would try cayanogen mod 7.2 or andoird revolution hd. but by the way, you are the only one who can say that is good for you
Thanks all. That was very kind of all of you
