I am new to android, I have decided to ditch apple finally. Well I came over to verizon, got me a droid x. Now I just did the one click root but have some questions. Do I have to install an app to get rid of the stock verizon apps? Like the ridiculous mobile hotspot? I thought that superuser would allow me to do this, but I haven't figured it out, or am I missing something? Any help would be grateful, cause this seems to be a lot more difficult than the jailbreaking and I would love to figure this out! I know the search button is my friend, but you really have to go through a lot of people talking crap just to get an answer!

If you use Titanium Backup, you can delete system apps by just clicking on them from the Backup/Restore menu and clicking uninstall.
Word to the wise though...if you uninstall system apps, you cannot update via OTA until you reinstall system apps (and set permissions again...blah blah).
Also, I am a recent switcher from the iPhone 4 to the Droid X as well. You won't be disappointed! That, and this is a great community of helpful people.
Sweet thank you! So does rooting take away that ability to update OTA?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
if your rooted get rom manager from the market and the droid x bootstrap. Then you can get 2.2 & make a backup before deleting apps.

Ok Ive been a long time iphone owner since they came out and ive never owned an android product. Im tired of the crappy service I get with att anywhere outside of large cities and the iphone in general so me and my wife are switching over to verizon. We both ordered the droid x two days ago and somehow we are getting them tomarrow despite the aug 4th ship date that they said. The more I review about android OS and the droid x the more I think I will love it compared to the iphone. My question is which meathod of rooting should I take. Ive never rooted before of course so should I use the one click method or the list of instructions method. Im real tech savvy so if the list instructions way to root it is the best im comfortable with that. My next questions is on updates. Do i need to have the phone unrooted everytime that I preform an update or is that unnessisary? Also if I delete or rename some basic bloat ware do I need to make sure it is all back the same before I update? Thanks for any help and I look forward to be on the droid side
Ok i have my phone. Any answers to my post? Is this the wrong site to be asking this?

I rooted mine using better terminal emulator right on my phone. Took all of 15 mins maybe. I've never done the one click thing but have heard great things about it. I guess its really what you're comfortable with. Just make sure you take your time and don't miss any steps!
Good luck & welcome to DROID!

Thanks for your reply. If i root now will it conflict with future updates?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It shouldn't. At least it hasn't yet. Just be careful with what bloat you delete. Make sure you keep anything that is blur related and verizons backup assistant. Its been said you will brick if you delete any of those.

I've rooted several phones and the one click was so easy. Once I extracted the files & installed the drivers it took less than a minute.

+1 for the one-click method!! it worked flawlessly!
Hands free activation is timing out and not working. I programmed my # and msid manually, so there's no need for this **** to keep popping up and running in the background.. is there something specific I need to do to kill this?
Well, ****, it worked when I turned on Wi-Fi!
let the activation go through it should ask you to reboot or just stop
you can always root and remove it...idk what apk it uses
what about flashing your phone with stock?
I am having this problem too. Sorry if this is thread resurrection.
It would seem that unlike the Hero, it is not omadm.apk (not present).
Ressurection of old threads is the third leading cause of male rabbit impotency.

People on XDA make absolutely no god damn sense. If a user ressurects an old thread you give him **** for it. If he posts a new thread you give him **** for posting a thread that already exists. Aka people on XDA seem to find ways to act like dicks no matter what people do.

This has been answered time and time again, nonetheless someone else is going to ask in the future, I just hope they google this and end up reading the solution on this thread.
To "disable" hands-free activation (handy for those on alternate carriers) UNINSTALL systemupdates.apk
Yes, you need to be rooted. Yes you need a root uninstall app to remove it. Yes, you can use a rooted file manager and manually remove it.

Find root uninstaller in the android market, look under the system apps, it'll be in red. It'll look like a green circular icon with a white check in the middle.
Also, I believe it's in system/app

No prob, and yeah, I had another thread stating that newer builds had it renamed. Even the original epic has the apk renamed from leaked FB15 and onwards to devicemanagement.apk as you said.

I know this is another GalaxyS device, but it seems that there really isnt any interest for it in the community. Does the ticker screen cause enough compatibility issues that we most likely wont see Cyanogen or anything for it? What about support from Samsung, are we likely to fall behind the curve for 2.2 release?
Iv had it for a few days and I love the formfactor, but Im considering swapping it for a fascinate for the modability. Any opinions?
There is currently no support from the developer community, but all it takes is one good dev and we'll be in business. There's really no way of knowing if 2.2 will lag behind, since no US Galaxy S phones have gotten the update yet... Only time will tell on both I'm afraid.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Samsung has began releasing the 2.2 update in certain countries from what I've read. So it should only be a matter of time before the USA gets it. The update will come via Kies I believe (Samsung's update software for PC).
As for custom ROMs for the Continuum, I believe development may be slow for this phone due to the ticker display. The ticker makes it more difficult to develop for. However, I'm confident we'll get some custom ROMs at some point. I'd be really nice if Samsung skipped 2.2 and went straight to 2.3 but that'll never happen.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
One of the first things we are going to need is a custom recovery to be able to backup/restore the phone. I suspect this will take someone loaning their phone to koush in order to get clockwork recovery and rom manager support. I know I am leery to try anything without having a way to restore, even if I have to restore to default.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Yeah a stock ROM would be excellent. There will be plenty of people who delete necessary apps with root access even before custom ROMs are available.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Well we're gonna need a custom recovery first, so that is one of the bigger issues.
Sent Koush a tweet asking what he would need and offered my phone for a period of time. I still have my D1 I can use.

Glad to see the Continuum Forum up and running! I know very little about development and such, but I'm open to testing out things. I'll be following the threads here as much as possible.
I was thrilled with the idea of this phone when it was released, but the limits on the ticker make it nearly unusable (no gmail? and Samsung's e-mail app is horrible).
I was thinking about returning it, but with the new found forum here on XDA, my hope is renewed.
Ok so, I've given it the mmost time I was willing not to say anything, but Can we please get an update or 2? PLEASE!!!!!! It's killling me!!!!!!

My GT doesn't show this as an option
So, as I read this forum and a few others, it appears that a Gingerbread Mod is the way to go for now? I am running Darkslide V4.2 on my rooted DX, but I want the Netflix app, and it won't work. What mod do I need? I am a beginner with the whole modding of the phone. I got extremely lucky when I unlocked and rooted both my DX and Xoom. I got it on the first try and didn't brick my devices. LOL. So, any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

This is what i've gotten so far from my research over the past several months in anticipation for Netflix on my DX. You can't get netflix to work on any android device as of now. There was a leaked version that came out a while back that only worked for less than a month. It was supposedly a leak from a concept phone at CES, if i remember correctly. Netflix's servers just deny access to any Android phone (The leaked Netflix.apk is fully functional, minus actually streaming movies. That is, you can still add things to your queue and browse the library). This is because they are still working for a universal DRM system for Android (if they want it to goto ALL android devices), otherwise it will only be available for certain android devices that work out deals with Netflix individually.
EDIT: Lol, I lied. Just found this. you need gingerbread 595

I bought MyBackup Pro or something like that. It has a pretty good UI. I use it mainly to back up texts to their cloud. They have a demo version if you wanted to check it out.
Just root it. Its pretty safe. Make sure you get a recovery that works.

I use titanium backup as just a means to keep the apks of apps I've bought and and downloaded off the market so I can reinstall them after flashing a ROM. Restoring apps + data causes me nothing but trouble as in apps going 'rogue' and draining my battery by not letting my phone go to sleep. A fresh start for every app is recommended.
