hey every one theres to many threads to look though them all im looking for the problems ppl have experienced and if you could just post the problems youve had with the new update(JPC) so others can find/beware of the current problems
and if you've found a fix
Edit: thanks im just wondering as im not too great with all this stuff and if i a problem arises i would have a hard time fixing it
the firmware is good, but its lags after few hours of usage, lagfix is a must for regular usage. works great for me.

It does seem to be slower than JG8, even with (apparently) working JIT. Still pretty snappy though, just not the super-speedy feel you get with JG8 and a lag fix.
I have not found any real issues yet though, everything seems to work just like it should! GPS is very good, chrome-to-phone stuff works well, flash works as well as it could on a phone, new exchange stuff and other OS tweaks are all working properly.
Pretty good basically, and I'm going to stick with it for my daily device for now.
strange problem regarding upload of pictures to picasa: connection keeps breaking. on retry it always resumes, but then just stops abruptly (for no apparent reason). with xfj6 it was working fine.

currently im just on stock firmware no root and lagfix was going to apply then the 2.2 showed up
i dont know any thing really about past firmware and im just starting to learn and get into that stuff now, would i see a significant performance increase from JH2 to JPC do the root and the lag fix.
thanks alot guys help is very much appreciated

With my Bell i9000 I cannot get it to connect to service. Cant unlock even with root. I never unlocked it before so I do not have a code, because I never needed to. But this froyo needs it apparently, it prompts you after boot. I reflashed stock bell JH2 firmware with root and it requires the unlock code now, still cant get the code. Son of a BIIIIIIIII---

Update 2: Very bizarre...I keep on receiving a text from my sister. But my phone isn't connected to Bell's service. She sent this text when I was trying out this 2.2 bull crap. No idea how its getting through..?
Also remember to close Kies before using Odin.

Anyone know if its possible to flash another modem file on this? A "problem" i have is that this does not let the phone use the 850 band, which I would really like to have.
I cant connect to 3G, no matter what i try . (Vodafone the netherlands)
EXCHANGE:
it does not sync all of my contacts, still can't tell any pattern behind that
it is 54 out of 170 contacts ...
4 actually came from google ...
is there a limit to 50 exchange contacts? anyway, this sucks! is it so hard to get exchange right?
F***** **
Lags and I get 1800 quadrant after lag fix, on 2.1 I got 2200 when surely I should be getting more like 2800 now.
There is NO way JIT is enabled on this FW
Under Sound -> Feedback, no matter what vibration intensity you set it to, it will only vibrate at its initial setting (which is very low).
Thats the only thing I found so far.
... BUT! I found a fix for the WCDMA 850MHz band (ONLY for those who have the i9000m [Bell version or equivalent])
1. Go to your phone dial screen and enter *#0011# (I dunno why people use the longer one *#*#... etc).
2. Press Back (submenu key -> back)
3. Select [8] Phone Control.
4. Select [7] Network Control.
5. Select [2] Band Selection.
6. Select [3] GSM Band []
7. Select [1] GSM ALL [] -> This is to get rid of the 900MHz selection for WCDMA (Don't worry, we'll enable WCDMA next!)
8. Press Back (submenu key -> back) [Brings you back to = GSM BAND = menu]
9. Press Back (submenu key -> back) [Brings you back to = BAND SELECTION = menu]
10. Select [4] COMBI BANDS []
11. Select [5] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)[]
12. Press Back (submenu key -> back)
13. Select [6] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)[]
14. Press Back (submenu key -> back)
15. Select [8] WCDMA 850(FDD V)[]
16. Press Back (submenu key -> back)
Now you'll have the 850MHz, but you'll probably have to do this every time you boot the phone if I'm not mistaken. At least this will tie us over until a real fix comes our way, which I hope is soon.
NOTE: If you really want to test for the 850MHz band, JUST enable the 850MHz band for WCDMA and then go back to the [1] BASIC INFORMATION screen and you'll see that you're on the WCDMA 850MHz Band 5.
EDIT: Apparently you don't need to do any of this, since I just tested it by putting it into automatic mode, and going to underground parking and it did indeed switch to 850MHz WCDMA. (even though 850MHz is NOT selected and 900MHz is.)
Cheers!

I've no clue on why/how it locked it, but i'm in no hurry to flash anything until bell releases it officially so we can get our 850 AMERICA/AUSSIE radio.
I am experiencing some serious memory leaking with JPC music player causing the phone to slow down to a crawl then hang on a black screen
*Update*
Seems this is because of having the music on the external sd.. using the internal one there is no problem

Just wanted to make a thread for anyone who is interested in/has questions about flashing the new JPK firmware to their Bell Galaxy phones. If anyone is a little skeptical about trying it, it can be done. Right now I'm running a "rooted, lagfixed, non-screwed-up-850-band" phone.
EDIT: To those who have any questions, please read this post. This should clear up a lot of things.

how do u keep 3g 850 band, it only comes up as 1900 on rogers, and 850 is disable in band selection debug menu, are u using any of those custom jpk rom?
Does jpk modem still have fido as roaming like the other froyo modems. Original bell modem knows fido uses rogers towers without reporting as roaming.
i'm thinking about flashing it.... did you have any issues with the imei number... like the bug that was in JPH?

i didnt have any issue with JPK or JPH, im just not getting wcdma 850 band
I'm no expert when it comes to troubleshooting with this stuff, but I will say that I used both the CSC and the Modem files from JH2, and combined it with the JPK PDA. I think I remember reading somewhere that an incorrect CSC file would cause us to lose the 850 band. I flashed a CSC file that was extracted from the JH2 firmware.
EDIT: If you guys need it, I can probably upload it for you. I got it from somewhere on these forums. Have a look.

RyanZA just updated his APK to 2.1.1. Works fine but you can't root it through the app. Have to do it a different way.
EDIT: Also, heads up guys... I went and installed a bunch of apps and everything seemed to be working fine, but within a minute of switching my default launcher to Launcher Pro my phone crashed and bricked, wouldn't even go to the boot animation afterward. Luckily this 3BR fix is working the way it should. I did a factory wipe and now I'm back to normal. I advise you guys to stay away from Launcher Pro for now. Hopefully it was an isolated incident, but I'll check again tomorrow. Getting tired now.
EDIT 2: After the factory wipe I installed Launcherpro right away. Works fine. Sorry to misinform anyone. I'll try to answer any questions that may be left behind first thing in the morning.
flashed with the files provided in the How To thread, now i get can't make calls or get data. APN isnt connected. HELP...lol
i read that the csc also contains gps settings, and if the jpk rom has improved the gps issue, wouldn't flashing with a csc of jh2 possibly negate the improvement? wouldn't it be better to use the jpk csc and just manually enter the apn info?
arr0ww, did you use the jh2 csc/modem files or the jpk ones? check to see if your apn settings are blank. i did that before, and just had to re-enter them, and it was fine.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought the CSC also held the information for enabling and disabling certain bands on your phone.
I used the JPK ones, what are the settings?
I have Flashed JPK today and so far its working great.Tried Lagfix after root but it's keep telling me that Phone /system is readonly.
Tried Voodoo Lagfix and it screwed up everything, Reflashed JPK and everything bak to normal. The only thing you guys might have to do is Re-enter APN settings.
I can tell by looking at the*#*#4636#*#* that phoe indeed running on GSM 850 band.
You need to use 803 Pit and Re-Partiton option when flashing.

Got it working, added the APN settings and rebooted.
soooooooooo, what is the general consensus here? 512 or 803 pit, repartition or no, jpk or jh2 csc/modem ?
from the other jpk thread, seemed 512 pit and no repartition was the popular way to go?
i would say either or.
I have tried both and either way you have to do Factory reset and i don't see the purpose using 512 pit as some says it use different size of partitions.
Also with ODIN 1.3 803 works better for some odd reason's.
Definately JPK as JH2 getting lots of Force closes. One thing you guys have to keep it in mind and i have seen lots of people complaining about that after falshing these BETA firmwares.
If for some reason you want to roll back to 2.1 Firmware, MArket will not work properly. I have to switch back to one of the Froyo Firmware in able to Download from te Market.
I would like to know if anyone has a successfull root for JPK? Really need LAGFIX running.
From what I can tell, the CSC files for Bell contains:
Bell Applications, sales/product code, and Bell APN/A-GPS/Internet/MMS settings.
Flashing just the CSC won't help much with the 850mhz band, but flashing both the Phone/Modem and CSC from UGJH2 _will_ fix it. However, flashing CSC will definitely factory reset your phone.
So if you're on the UGJH2 Phone/CSC, you can flash _just_ the PDA file for XXJPK with 512/513 pit and NO re-partition, and still retain all your applications. Although if you start getting a lot of force closes on those applications you might want to factory reset your phone anyways just to fix that problem. EDIT: You'll actually lose the CSC, so you'll need to flash CSC after you do a recovery downgrade anyways. Also, solipsism is correct. You don't need a pit file if you're not checking re-partition.
If you're on a different Modem/CSC firmware and you want to flash to XXJPK, it might be easier to flash the Modem/CSC of your current firmware to UGJH2 first, then flash just the PDA file for XXJPK, since the new recovery won't allow you to update to the CSC. You can however downgrade the recovery first to apply the UGJH2 CSC.
There is also a chance that you can retain your 850mhz even if you used the XXJPK Modem/CSC. You won't lose your IMEI, but this way your product code will be changed. You can fix your product code with the CSC trick from "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163", however if you're not on the JH2 modem, this will make you _lose_ the 850mhz band for sure.
Modem and CSC files for UGJH2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8258144&postcount=29
Rooting, Recovery downgrading:
Follow the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686 under HOWTO ROOT JPK FIRMWARE.
Lagfix:
Use RyanZA's OneClickLagFix version 2.1.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784691 or you'll get errors on XXJPK with older versions. You must have rooted your phone first, the OneClickLagFix won't root a Froyo phone. Some people have also reported that if you used a 803 PIT this won't work.
Market Fix:
At the time of writing, protected apps didn't show up when I installed XXJPK, but protected apps work on JPH, so all you need to do is download the SGS Tools, edit the /system/build.prop file with that app, and change the XXJPK to XXJPH in the one single line under ro.build.fingerpint. You can then clear the cache on your market app, then use the code *#*#2432546#*#, and wait for the "checkin successful" notification, then reboot, and hopefully your market will show protected apps again. (The app I use to test for protected apps is Desktop Visualizer)
If I go into servicemode it shows me that i'm on 1900 band 2 and sometimes 850 band 5.. so it looks like it is working.. and I did not use the JH2 Files just the JPK files..
and if you go into Band Selection 850 is listed.. *#2263# and i'm set to automatic so it should work.
Hey,
So I went ahead and the JPK update, using JPK for CSC and all and 512.
I had to manually enter the APN settings off the Bell site but other than that everything seems great. Made some test calls, text messages and data tests. EDIT: Also GPS works good too, fast.
Using SGS tools I get WCDMA as 1900 Band 2 most of the time with 850 Band 5 occasionally.
So from what I'm reading, I'm good right? Everything should be a-okay?
Other than it saying my phone is an i9000 as apposed to an i9000m. Is that a big deal?
I was trying to use the [HOWTO] Change CSC (sale&product code) in any ROM to any country [2.1 or 2.2] tutorial but I wasn't able to get past step 1. I could not copy BMC folder to the /csc/ folder using Android Mate or ADB shell.
Any advice/tips are appreciated as you can see I'm a pretty big noob.
Thank you

Have I bricked my phone?

No. If you had bricked it, it would respond as well as a brick i.e. not communicate with Odin at all. You just had an unsuccessful flash. If your phone won't boot, then it's described as a boot loop.
Odin software is a Samsung product, and as you might expect it's full of DRM. It won't allow you to flash a lot of things that you would like to. To recover, you need to flash a full OEM (stock) image that has Odin friendly signatures. If you did a full Nandroid (backup) and you should have, you can probably restore that too.
Otherwise, if your phone was originally from O2, then look for a full O2 firmware. Other OEM carrier images for your specific S5 model may also work. Or they may not. It depends on your bootloader and how the incoming firmware is signed.
The most effective way of debranding is usually installing a custom ROM which has been formatted to be flashable. That can range from something that is 99% stock and essentially just debranded to extensively modified ROMs. There are many ways to go about this and many combinations that will work. A good starting point though would be to get your phone working normally again by flashing a full O2 image as a baseline. Then do some more reading to discern your options.
Having said that, if you can't find an O2 image nor find another OEM image that Odin accepts, then consider a custom ROM.
.
Problem solved. I managed to flash the German O2 firmware and subsequently the UK BTU (unbranded) firmware. Hope I haven't SIM-locked my phone now. Will find out tomorrow when I get a micro SIM for it. Thanks fffft.

That would be almost unheard of. Flashing a different ROM will not normally re-lock a phone. If your phone was unlocked in advance, it should remain unlocked. You could check in the service menu.. but pragmatically, you'd probably find it easier to use an old SIM, or a friends SIM from a different carrier to see if you get a locked SIM dialog on screen or not.

The service menu says that the phone is not SIM-locked. I'm not sure that using an out of region SIM card is a 100% reliable test since it would still connect to an in-region carrier to enable roaming. Thanks for your help once again.

You will need root to check
Region lock is implemented by using a network blacklist. It may blacklist (block) entire countries, not just a single carrier. This is in contrast to a SIM lock that would whitelist just one carrier.
Using a root aware file manager, look at the /system/csc/customer.xml file.
Under the security heading, you should either see something like this:
Code:
<Security>
<NbNetworkLock>0</NbNetworkLock>
</Security>
Or like this:
Code:
<Security>
<NbNetworkLock>2</NbNetworkLock>
<NetworkLock>460BB</NetworkLock>
<NetworkLock>250BB</NetworkLock>
</Security>
If your file mirrors the first example, then your phone is not region locked. If you have MCC codes listed as in the second example you might have an active region lock. The first line is the number of MCC entries and the actual MCC codes represent carriers that are blacklisted to you. But it could be because your carrier is blocking roaming there rather than a region lock.To distinguish the two we would also need to see if the region lock flag is set in the NVM.
Describing how to check and remove the NV flag would be a much longer post. But if the entries concern you, simply edit them to MCC codes that you will never visit which effectively circumvemts the region lock. Do not delete the MCC entries outright unless you also clear the NV flag. You can look the MCC codes up online to see what carrier(s) they correspond to.

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I prefer not to root the phone for the time being. I'm confident the phone will unlock itself after 5 mins of calls as per Samsung's instructions.

Then you have more faith in Samsung than many of us. A number of people have said that five minutes was insufficient. You might want to make a few more calls than that just to be on the safe side.

We don't know. Everyone hates region locking, but no one has done any rigourous testing. The mechanism that clears the region lock may round down minutes or perhaps misses some calls. Maybe Samsung actually set it a bit higher e.g. 7 minutes to foul up grey market sellers.
I would check the blacklist to be certain. In your place, given a rash of people saying that they made 5 -10 minutes of calls.. and the region lock remained in place,.. and if it would cause you significant inconvenience if it remained intact - I would strive to have 10+ minutes of both received and placed calls.
Do what you think best. And feel free to let Samsung know that you are unimpressed.

Your phone has a different processor than the models sold in the Americas. But I would think that the blacklist would be the same. So yes, it should work to circumvent the region lock.

I have this strange problem where sometimes my modem does not work after a clean flash. Usually just making sure the data network preference is set to LTE solves the issue, and after 10 min or less the phone picks up the band. But I've just done a clean flash teamUB 1/11 and its been 24 hours with no data connection. This same build worked fine for this same phone a week ago, but the 1/19 broke the phone so I had to do a clean wipe and go back to 1/11.
I've played with data roaming options in CDMA roaming mode, set to domestic roaming, national roaming. Still no data
Any advice?
This is for a 900P (sprint) - Note that I am on CREDO (uses Sprint network)
EDIT - FIXED YAY!!! FULL LTE WORKING GREAT!

The issue started when I was forced to wipe my system data and do a clean install in order to get the phone functional after boot loop from 1/19 update. so yes, I would assume that the modem built into the 1/11 update I rolled back to (clean install) contained the modem. But, as stated, the 1/11 build was working fine for me before, and not now.
Is there a way to just update the modem itself on this build/phone? I've been wondering about that and wanted to try it if possible.

There is no modem included in TeamUB's roms.
First thing's first, what model are you using? Go to signature settings and write your model there, this way whoever is helping you they will know what they're dealing with.

No need to say sorry man, just mean it makes it easier. Haha you're signature says 900O lol.
1 Install Samsung USB driver for mobile phones
2 Download the NE5 modem one click flasher here
3 Put your phone into download mode (Turn off the device, press Volume Down, Home and Power Buttons simultaneously, Once you see the warning message, release all buttons, Press Volume Up to enter download mode, Now your device should be in download mode)
4 Run the file from #2 and flash modem (if NE5 doesn't help try the other ones).
I don't think it's a modem problem though. IMO it's either the rom or the operator..

The NE5 throws a <OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid error. I flashed the ND2 version and no immediate data connection, but from past experience it can take a little while for the modem to sync. No idea what causes the delay, but everytime i flash a new rom it can take sometimes up to 30min before it gets a data connection. Been 15min no connection yet.
Couldnt find a mirror anywhere of that NE5 one click flasher. Know of any other hosts? i googled to no avail.

Update:
I have restored a old backup to kitkat, modem working fine, instant connection. Then I did a system wipe, clean flash to cyanogenmod 1/20 update released yesterday.....no modem. Restored backup again to kitkat, then did a dirty flash to 1/20 cyanogenmod.....no modem.
I think the issue is 5.0 itself. The issue is so random, I do not know how to troubleshoot it. I've installed maybe a dozen CM's so far, and its been a coin toss whether the modem works after install. Sometimes it syncs up after a few min, and sometimes never. its really strange because I had the modem working fine on TeamUB from late december, through 3 or 4 updates until 1/19 boot looped it. Now after that nothing has gotten the data back on other than restoring to kitkat.
When i did the clean install to cyanogenmod, on the startup process where it says 'waiting to activate cellular service' it gets stuck there and never activates the data.
Also, when trying to flash the NE5 tar md5 you linked to, I get md5 error! Binary is invalid. Im supposed to use AP, yes?
EDIT - Changed preferred network type to 3G and after a few reboots got data! Going to change back to LTE now and give it some time to see if i can get it to sync up.

No luck leaving it on LTE. When I switch back to 3g I can get a connection, LTE set in preferences I get no connection, not even 3g. I've been testing around the city and at my home, where I can always pickup a LTE connection from past experience.
It seems that the LTE protocol within 5.0 is buggy for my situation. If it works, it seems to work fine, but when it doesnt work, it never works. So its either glass is full or empty

There are two versions of labels in Odin. The "normal" says "phone" the one I don't like says "CP". You have the Odin I don't like lol, so yours says "CP". That's where you put the modem. "AP" is for firmware/roms only.
Try these two modems, which I found on this page, NK4 for 4.4 while NKD is for 5.0.
Try Ktoosez kernel and also check your Apn settings, it's supposed to be optimised for CDMA phones and might help you.

Congrats! I'm glad it worked out Ktoonsez mentioned in the CM12 thread that his kernel was optimized for sprint/verizon phones in some way, don't remember what though :silly:
OK, *FIRST TIME POSTER HERE* so please excuse any unintentional ignorance of rules or etiquette.
I'm just super excited to get this phone working the way I like it, and it's all thanks to xda so I was moved to create an account to express my thanks AND hopefully help a few people back.
How? Well after reading through pretty much everything I could find on the N910S here and elsewhere, it seems that no-one (yet?) has been able to confirm a working mod that meets the following:
1. N910S Exynos Korean version
2. Some kind of custom English only ROM that removes the Korean characters from keypad and other network-apps
3. Removed bloatware
4. Easy-to-follow, how-to guide
Seems there were quite a few ppl who wanted the same thing so I just want to let you know what I did to get it working.
*PLEASE NOTE* Everything contained in this summary was found through over a week of tedious reading, research, trial & error. BUT in the end all the necessary information was contained, or linked to, in xda forums. It's just that all the relevant information and files were scattered over many different threads and topics. I'm just collating it all here to hopefully make it easier for the next person to find.
Background info: I'm technically competent but relatively new to phone modding - I've only rooted my HTC E8 before this to remove bloatware. This is my second project. I live in HK and started with a completely stock OEM Note4 N910SKSU2DPK2 after a factory reset. I then did the steps below in order (not including many failed attempts and re-starts, of course) These are just the broadstrokes of what I did, if you need to know how to do each step in detail then please search the forum. It's quite clear and there's no need for me to repeat it here anyway
As it's my first post and I'm in a rush to leave the house soon, I have not bothered with screenshots or links - I'm happy to provide if someone can tell me if the preferred method is link to the thread where the info was found, or you just want a link to the files I used. Again, they were all found through links in threads on xda anyway but I'll have to spend some time to find them again as I didn't bookmark them. Also, if you want the files someone will have to tell me how to upload them here. The filenames/packages are given in [brackets] so maybe you can just search for them?
0. Reminder to backup your phone and data first!
1. Root - was really easy using CF AutoRoot [CF-Auto-Root-trelteskt-trelteskt-smn910s] Just download to your PC and package includes Odin, which for first-timers is the official Samsung software used to flash to your phone.
2. Download:
- ClockWorkMod [n910s-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1113).tar]
- SuperSU [SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip]
- C Mod ROM [C_ROM_N910s.v2HNY.zip] (the site is Korean-based but google translate of the page was enough for a non-Korean like myself)
- N910S DPK2 modem file [N910S-20170114T050808Z.zip] The original thread had links to every modem variant they knew of, so should work with other S/L/K variants BUT of course I haven't tried them.
3. Copy files for SuperSU, CMod ROM, and DPK2 modem onto an external SD card and insert into your phone.
4. Put your phone into Download Mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Down + Home + Power)
5. Run Odin on your PC, connect phone. On Odin, click <AP> and select CWM file. Do not check or modify any other options. Click <Start> to flash CWM recovery to your phone.
6. Once it's done, disconnect from PC, and restart your phone into the new custom recovery mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Up + Home + Power)
7. Choose Install from zip and select the SuperSU file from your ext SD card. (I think this step may not be strictly necessary as it's part of CF AutoRoot, but SuperSU is always handy to have anyway)
8. Reboot into Recovery mode again (available in Advanced menu)
9. Install zip - now choose the CMod ROM file. Reboot into system and have a look around the new UI. It was at this stage that I noticed two things: my HK carrier SIM was not recognised, and as the ROM boasts some Note 5 features the Always On Display function would cause my Note 4 to not be able to wake up once the screen was turned off (manually or via time-out). I had to pull out the battery, restart phone, go straight into Settings -> Display and turn off the Always On Display functionality.
10. To fix the SIM card not recognised, reboot into Recovery Mode again and Install zip - choose the DPK2 modem file (or whichever version your phone's modem is). Restart phone, wait a few minutes and SIM should now work.
*ONE REMAINING ISSUE* Even tho my SIM is 4G/LTE, it seems to be connecting at HSUPA only. Could be reception, I'll check later. But I believe there's a way to select different LTE bands through secret codes or menu, not sure but I'll try that as well later and update if it works.
That's it - hope it helps! Thanks for reading, and don't forget I'm new to this AND a first time poster so be kind in comments/questions please

So by following steps in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-sm-n910s-sk-telecom-issues-t2929571/page2 for SKT, I was able to change to LTE Band 3 or 7 (which is what my sim provider offers) and get an LTE signal for data, BUT then I lose voice call functionality. If I choose Band 3 Preferred, it says band changed success, but just connects via HSUPA and I get voice, but no LTE (just like before, or if I choose Automatic)
Can anyone please help me figure this out? How can I get voice AND LTE? Many thanks in advance!
PS - also after I reflashed my modem.bin the baseband changed from N910SKSU2DPK2 to N910SKSU0DPK2. I don't know what this means nor if it has anything to do with the problem I've described above? Can anyone help to explain? Thanks...

Band 3 and 7 are supposed to stick with default settings. I tried it once during my trip to Malaysia and it worked flawlessly. Any chance you might want to contact your carrier?
The trick to switch from 4G-3G-4G works. ATT band 5 preferred

Have you tried switching to 3g only, then switching it back to 4g when available in your phone setting??
I had similar issue with 4g and apparently, this strangely simple trick solved my problem.
Anyway, I tried to download the ROM from the Achonapp but took me ages and I couldn't flash it either. May I know where you got the ROM from?

Tried your suggestion but now it shows No Service
*update* actually I think your "trick" works... After switching to 3G only, it wouldn't switch back to 4G and showed No Service. I rebooted the phone with a different sim and after a few minutes, it automatically connected to 4G AND I now have voice as well! So, all is working properly now and I'm a happy camper. Reboot with the original sim and still works and connects to 4G. So I think you're right it just needed to be "forced" to select 4G preferred. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah I got it from achonapp as well and it took a while - I think I left it going overnight. But the ROM did work for me. If anyone wants the file direct I'm happy to put it up on my google drive if it's not against forum rules etc.
But since then I've switched to miui8 which is also working pretty much flawlessly as daily ROM, but I haven't tested every single little feature of course. If you wanna try it - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70596588&postcount=797

Should be an easy enough fix, First Flash a Modem, Then note the IMEI behind the battery so take out the battery and note the IMEI. Then you could use QPST and QXDM to program the IMEI stored in the NVRAM as the one in your back cover. NOTE: completely destroyed my Modem when I used QPST and QXDM to program the IMEI, Now the phone won't boot unless I disable the Radio network completely so I can't make calls etc any more unless I get help from the community.
Someone should guide you to install QPST and QXDM. NOTE: You can only use QPST and QXDM on Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC's , Therefore Exynos will require a different method

I think I might need mmcblk0p14 (mdm1m9kefs1) and mmcblk0p15 (mdm1m9kefs2) from somebody. It needs to be from a G901F and the G901F Phone must not be locked to any carrier when this is given. IMEI Data are not (well they should not) be stored in these partitions rest assured (i think).
