Edit.... evan though it is coming through kies it appears to not be the official 2.2 upate we are all waiting for it still has alot of bugs . Sorry to get everyones hopes up.
Just got it installed myself... but it isn't really official =P Still a beta build that requires test mode and registry spoofing to install. But it's a lot more refined than JP2 and JP3
so is this flashable with the captivate kernel?

Hi Zilch
what are the known issues with captivate and what instructions did u follow to get it installed ?
how fast is it. is it requiring a lag fix
Wow!... They said September End, looks like its going to be earlier than that...
Any ideas how its gonna work with the Captivate and how to install?
Thanks!
I'm still trying to get it to get onto the AT&T network, and no I'm using the actual froyo kernel. There isnt a 2.2 captivate kernel yet.
These are the instructions I followed:
http://android.modaco.com/content/s...-com/316924/very-stable-and-fast-2-2-release/
Couple modifications though, I'll elaborate in a couple mins- but you DO need kies to do this

Yep, back/home problems are still there, speaker problems are still there, and auto rotate still needs to be toggled off

back/home can be fixed , autorotate i can live with it by turning it off
speaker is going to be the major issue.
Yeah autorotate isn't a big issue, although I'm having to revert back to get my damn unlock code since the SIM won't work without the code in this froyo build >=(
This probably isnt official unless a) GPS is fixed and b) highmem is enabled
Oh and also apps2sd
People are reporting only 300 mb or so is being reported, so bleh..
The only thing "official" about this build is that you snag it from samsung directly, but it ISNT official.

Yeah all this official unofficial stuff confuses the hell outta me. Why not just say whether it is RTM or not.
Completely agree, speaker is the biggest issue. Autorotate is petty and home/back is manageable unles you are the only one using the phone .
Any success in kernel for Captivate yet...anywhere?
Hmm, didn't see any direct links to this, all Kies so far...

YAY MY STORY WAS POSTED TO ANDROID GUYS!!!
UPDATED: So I had to rush home after class and give everyone that definate answer that they long. This was in my email as I finally got a STRAIGHT answer from Google to the question
"Will the people that did the manual update to Froyo still receive the OTA, and did it void the warrenty? Can I get a straight Answer?"
Hi,
The answer is yes and no, respectively. When 2.2 (Froyo) is sent via OTA, everybody will get it, including those who have already manually updated to Froyo. No, your warranty is not voided by manually updating to Froyo. But we do recommend waiting for the OTA if you're still on 2.1 / Eclair.
Cheers,
Ben

Origonal Post:
I found some evidence that supports, all manual user will get the OTA, even if you updated manually.
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses!
Just wanted to give a heads up that the build floating around is not the official Froyo release. You will get an automatic notification when we OTA the build, no need to manually download it. You will still get the automatic notification if the official release is a newer version than the one you have, so don't sweat...but I'd highly recommend waiting for our official release
@Bhushan4181: You will get the OTA update as long as you are connected to the internet and can communicate with Google servers.
We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!
Gaurav.

From what I am TOLD as long as your manual update came from GOOGLE than it is still a LEGIT and offical update, just not the final, therefor you HAVE NOT voided your warrenty, and will most likely get the OTA so don't panic
P.S Those who did the manual update(me included) I would not worry about trying to roll back to 2.1. They sent out a test build via ota to testers, and when the final build comes i'm sure EVERYONE will get the OTA as it will have a different signature and what-not. How else would they get the final build to the testers?
Beautiful. Only thing missing now is a release date :|
Good find, I think its a no brainer but confirmation is good for some folks that were worried.

It appears, according to the quote ' We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!' that the build is complete and it may only be the OTA to be sorted.
I hope so anyway

There is no question that there must be a newer version of froyo thats coming out. I say that because every forum I visit on this site (and other sites) have people complaining that this and that doesn't work (anymore).

I knew there would be at least one person that would point something out to try to kill the post cause they didn't find it first. Obviously it will be newer. The file that was MANUALLY downloaded was available to the media and what not, so what, they are never gonna get the final OTA. Its common sense. And like I siad even if by what slim chance you don't get the OTA, you will be able to push it manually.
Way to try to kill a post
BTW...

I dont find any good reason to give/update the press or the "preview phones" some unfinished or still bugged version of 2.2
For what ? so that they review it (Froyo) and write down all the bad or not working things ... it makes no sense , at least for me ...

I don't claim to know what happened, but I'm damn sure there is more to all of this.
I cannot believe the degree to which Google has fumbled this Froyo release. They let us all think we might get it at I/O and look where we are now.....another week later...all anyone has gotten is a broken version.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Mickey Mouse time in Mountain View

Since I'm still semi new to Android, you miss out on OTA updates if you're rooted right? Does that also mean you miss out if your bootloader is unlocked?

Not automatically no. But you should be able to either restore to factory and then run the coming upgrade, or more likely, there will be home cooked 2.2 builds to upgrade to.
Early flashers are working w/o a net right now as i don't think the AT&T released Streak 1.6 ROM is available to restore yet, but I could be wrong.

And according samsung.de this is dated 5.1.2011. So it is out for a while
Thats odd os the one downloaded today although it has a lower build number is dated 29 January 2011, 23:11:02. The newest part is dated Feb14th.
When I download the update for kies it gets to the dowloading files part and is on 100% but carries on downloading past the 53642kb on something like over 233343 whats wrong with it? Also it keeps asking for internet connection and i click retry every so often? Is there anyway I can download the new version and uninstall the old one rather than updating?
i noticed that this new update is more responsive than the last at least they are improving their apllication

Nothing wrong with the iPhone. If it weren't for Apple and the iPhone, none of us would be using this phone right now. People seem to get all anti-fanboy about Apple and forget about these little facts
Do I prefer my Android phone? Yes. Do I think the iPhone is crap? Hell no, it was an absolutely phenomenal invention and completely changed the way we use our phones.
Now, can anyone confirm that we can re-root the phone after the upgrade please?
i have to do it all over again but thats ok as long the updates fix the problems

rooting isn't important for me as it was before lollipop, there's not much bloatware on the V20 and ads are being taken care of with adguard.

I saw that update listed on Sprint's site last week and was also frustrated not to get it. It must have had an error because it has been pulled. We are lucky not to received flawed firmware.
