Error message when trying to flash ROM - HD2 General

I am trying to flash the latest ' Dutty ' Rom but I get an error message reading ' Update Utility can not open the requested file. Please check you Update Utility'.
Can anyone please help me?
I am trying my best to follow the instructions in these forums and I am a newbie.

did you unpack the rom? i haven't checked the one you're using, but most come zipped up as .zip, or .rar or .7z
use something like 7zip, or winrar to unpack.
then, put the filename.nbh and customruu.exe in a folder, just those two alone, thenright click customruu and choose run as administrator.
if the rom came with customruu packed together, don't try to run from within the pack, unpack first.

A good place to start befor flashing your first ROM, is this thread.
In this thread you can read that you need to install HARDSPL befor you can flash a custom ROM to your phone, and i think that is why you get the error message.
When you have downloaded your new rom you can unzip it with 7zip that is free.
Enjoy ;-)

you downloaded the file, right? you should open the zip/rar file with 7zip or winrar. Then, drag/extract the file to your hardspl/uspl folder
yea i did dl it...that must be the step that i am missing dragging it to the hard spl folder. i used winrar to extract the files from the folder. then when the box comes up with the file drag it to the hard spl folder, then click that ruu folder? i think i might have to go back a re-read that last step because ive been so focused on getting that file out that i forgot what to do. thanks in advace for answering me
problem fixed. i was overthing things..after i downloaded the biggie file i extracted the file using 7 zip then i drug the file (nhb) and put it in the rom utility folder and ran it. problem solved this site is great. hopefully whoever else is searching for this problem finds this andit helps

Need official RUU_SIGNED.NBH from 1.66.405.2 WWE ROM Update

Hey everyone...not sure where I'm supposed to ask this, so I put it in general.
As I am on a Mac and use HardSPL to flash ROMs, it is not possible for me to upgrade to an official ROM because it is in .exe format. So, I need someone to post the RUU_SIGNED.nbh from the official ROM update (WWE: 1.66.405.2).
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out and provide the NBH file or point me in the right direction. Thanks
im not aware of any fix with your issues but to use bootcamp and use Windows OS.
You can also try Parallels or Vmware Fusion. Im just not sure if it's gonna work.
i would say maybe. =)
now, regarding .nbh, you can probably post a holla down at the Rom developments section.

I'm not trying to download Bootcamp, Parallels or anything else like that...I just want someone (who has a PC) to grab the RUU_SIGNED.NBH file and post it here. I will send a paypal donation to the person that does so. Thanks
Please can someone post the RUU_SIGNED.NBH from the officially 1.66.405.2 WWE ROM update? I will compensate!
the exe file is actually a zip file. No need to run it. just change the extension to .zip instead of .exe, open it with any decent zip tool (winzip winrar or whatever) and extract the RUU_signed.nbh
download an file archive programme and open the official EXE file with it and you can do it yourself!

I just tried using winrar and it did not work. It will not extract the files. Are you on a PC? If so, it would only take you 2 minutes to grab the file I need and post it here. Thanks.

its a 200 meg file, so sorry no it wont 'just take me a minute'. I can promise you (as can everyone else here) that the .exe file you download is just an executable zip, and we all generally right click it, choose open with winrar, and it opens to show the ten or so files inside, one of which is RUU_Signed.nbh. Then drag n drop the file from there.
If you really are getting an error, you should maybe download it again, something isn't right.
I'm on a Mac also, but I always flash via XP on a Bootcamp partition. I just leave all the flashing stuff there, and only use it for that.
You should also be aware that if you flash the 1.66 rom from sd card you will overwrite your SPL to version 1.6 which means you may have trouble installing HSPL later.

I don't care about that so much. I'm trying to sell the phone and want to sell it as stock as it can be. I'll just flash 1.48...thanks for everyone's help. I'll stick to Android

Exactly. By happy luck/accident, I was unable to do so before I knew this when I first got my HD2, now I have (thanks to everyone here) HSPL installed....but I realize now that If I had been able to install it, I probably would have, not knowing any better, and given myself a lot more difficulty in the process. This is the best source of phone info anywhere on the planet.

that rom will set spl to 3.03.0000 if flashed from sd card, and you would use hspl4 to re apply hspl, should you want to.
I already have hspl to 3.03.0000 and can not load anything when connected to USB, I was trying to go back to hspl 2.08 so i can load recovery. Is there another way.

You should be able to extract the boot and system images from Google's factory image.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam
I wasn't aware that the kitchen worked with the Nexus 4 as its still listed as one of the unsupported devices but the thread hasn't been updated since October of last year so maybe that changed.
this is copied from dsixda's kitchen thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 post #3):
How do I import a ROM into the kitchen to use as my base?
(The instructions below are for HTC devices in general. For other devices, please visit the appropriate thread.)
From a shipped ROM:
First, find the shipped ROM for your device, usually from htc.com or from searching xda-developers (check the Wiki or sticky posts under your device's sub-forum).
This link may help: Various devices
Please don't ask me for links, as I don't know everything or own all devices.
The shipped ROM can be found in three different formats. Identify the type you have downloaded:
If the shipped ROM is in a .ZIP format, then simply copy it to the kitchen's original_update folder.
OR if the shipped ROM consists of system.img and boot.img files, then copy those two files to the kitchen's original_update folder. If the ROM also includes a lib.img (found in some newer HTC ROMs), then copy that as well!
OR if the shipped ROM is in an .EXE format, then do the following:
In Windows, run the shipped ROM's .EXE file till it gets to the first dialog. Stop there but don't close the window yet.
Go to Start->Run and type: %TEMP%
When the folder opens, search for Rom.zip (use the "magnifying glass" Search button)
Copy Rom.zip to your kitchen's original_update folder
OR from a cooked/custom ROM:
Copy the update.zip (or equivalent ZIP file) to your kitchen's original_update folder
OR from a Nandroid backup (under /sdcard/nandroid) [NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NON-STOCK ROM BACKUPS]:
Copy the system.img and boot.img files from the backup folder to your kitchen's original_update folder
Hm, i see. But the problem with the dev links for Google is that it's 4.2.2 and not 4.2.1... I would like to stay to an older version for the moment, with those problems with bootloaders, kernels etc... I will try with system and boot img, thanks !
Sent from my Blade S using xda app-developers app
Well, i tried to use the tutorial about shipped rom, but my system.img and boot.img files aren't recognized by the kitchen... So i don't know how to do Halp ?
In this thread you have posted link to factory image with android 4.2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848
Great !! Thanks a lot eskeyy !

[Q] Custom Rom invalid .zip

hi guys!
First of all : I'm new to the custom rom scene development. I do know how to flash and so..
So i've installed cygwin and the android kitchen. I took the stock rom provided to me by the manufacturer, i was able to set up the working folder. Then I did : "Build ROM from working folder", without making any changes to apk's or something like that.
When i got the update.zip file i tried flashing it with a recovery and using the update.zip in /sdcard method. The first method just stopped after verifying, the second method said it was an invalid package.
I believe there is something wrong with the signing of the rom. Could you guys help me out?
Thx!
Check type of script used in update.zip

Did u signed the update.zip while exporting rom using cygwin menu. ?
If you didnt sign it will notify that is invalid
But there might be some other kind of issue like
1. Cygwin provides updater_script and update_script in update.zip package it contain all information reguarding flashing
check that your device require which type of script .
let me know your responce.

[Q] [HELP] Extracting a Stock ROM for modify it

Hello everyone.
I want to create my own Custom ROM. I want to make it based on Stock ROM, but I don't know how to extract it.
I downloaded the firmware from SamMobile, extracted the .tar.md5 file with 7-Zip and got the *.img files.
I read some guides about how to use Android Kitchen but I don't know how to start with the Stock ROM to make my ROM based on it, and then, use the Kitchen.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings!
Same procedure. Extract the .img with 7zip.

It didn't work. I get a message saying "Can not open file as archive".
Any answer?
There's loads of guides around, maybe adjust your google search terms.
Seriously, there are a massive amount of guides for this, you can't be looking very hard
