Your data throughput SHOULD increase dramatically. I say should because I'm not able to test it out right now (long story short, my phone fell in some water ).
If you wanna test it out I have attached a build.prop that I modded. Please let me know the results.
Additional Tweak:
As an additional tweak you can also change the pppd DNS settings in the build.prop. If you scroll all the way to the very end you will see this
net.ppp0.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.ppp0.dns2=8.8.4.4
net.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.dns2=8.8.8.8
net.dns3=8.8.4.4
Click to expand...

These are Google's DNS settings. Some providers don't allow DNS servers other than their own. You can change this to your provider's. For example, here is TMOUS settings
net.ppp0.dns1=216.155.165.050
net.ppp0.dns2=216.155.165.051
net.dns1=216.155.165.050
net.dns2=216.155.165.050
net.dns3=216.155.165.051

Now this tweak has very mixed results. It never worked for me but I have read many others are using it successfully.
Also please note that you may have to REBOOT TWICE in order for these tweaks to take fully.
Awesome!!!!

Glad to here it works!!

Also no speed increase for me with vodafone netherlands.....
Increased from 325kb/s to 956kb/s using RMnet.
PS. the modded build attached 'appears' to be original not modded.
many thanks for tip.

Would you mind giving us some details on your setup, such as:
What area are you in?
Which build you are using?
Which radio you using?
Which windows rom you using?
You speeds before and after the tweak?
This can be useful for other people. Thanx.
tested with the new file, it seemed to have gotten slower..
it wont stay on H now and my speeds are .5 to .7 instead of the constant .8 to .9 i was getting.
I tried doing this this morning. I lost all data, rebooted many times with no luck. Had to revert back to org build file. This was using the new shubCraft 1.5 CM6 build. Didn't try it with my DarkStone V2.1 build that's in my sig tho.
it is work for me

my setup:
shubCraft 1.5 + latest zImage (31 Aug)
2.12.50.02
Energy ROM
Anyone else do any further testing with this?
Just tested after 2 reboots:
Old config:
Down 1.73Mb
Up 0.57Mb
New config:
Down 2.02Mb
Up 0.23Mb
Tests have been performed at the same place...
That's not what I call a big increase, it's more worse than anything.
Back to old file after performing a new test in a place where the signal is better.
Mattc 1.8 with Hastarin 7.1 kernel
Radio 2.12
I tried this on my TMOUS HD2. Check my sig for details on my setup.
Basically, it didn't work.
After making the listed changes, I had a functioning web browser, but web apps didn't work. Market, PDA Net, and Speedtest.net apps did not connect. Couldn't do a speed test.
Any ideas?
Most of the builds already have the tweaks built in.
Anyway guys, you couldnt exchange your build.prop file so easly.. Basicaly any chef could make some tweaks in it that are build-dependant. If you exchange your build prop you could lost all the tweaks or, in some cases, you will not be able to boot anymore....

hey i know the whole OMG APPS2SD WE HAVE ROOT thing is big around here. but i dont have use for apps2sd at all. i have 14 apps and i change firmware like 9001 times a day when something new comes out. but i have 2gigs of OGG music files. and every firmware i have used ends up bugging out when im playing music and i get a notifacation with the usb headphone adapter connected. could we get a firmware optimized for music and enjoying it instead of showing off our rooted phones with no real use behind it. redirect this post if you need to. i know the whole "WRONG FORUM TOPIC LOCKED" thing happens alot here.
you can try the getting the EQ mod or the Max volume mod as well
would there be any use in me attempting to set up the sdk and pulling an all nighter to learn how to make my own NON BLEEDING EDGE but very stable release? cuz i would love to just have a stable phone with every volume thing and EQ pre installed. and that pesky sound service bug, dats gotta get fixed.

has preinstalled max volume, also a selection of the roms
You don't need the sdk to use the audio mods. Read a little bit more, and you will discover that you can use lucidrem's script to download the the audio mods without a pc. It takes a little patience,some time, and using the terminal. But it is easy if you follow the instructions. Also the developer of the audio mods also has several custom roms with the mods built in.
Edit. If you want a stable Rom use jf1.51, thedudes 1.2b you can add the audio mod on top of the using the bat files that comes with the audio mods
i'll try out *** - JF1.51 CRB43 US with V2 then. im used to using the terminal, its not a problem to mod my own, but being able to just quickly flash my phone back is too tempting. and @ubernicholi, i was meaning the sdk to build my own firmware as a whole. i assume its going to take me a while to understand why this whole multiple firmware bidness is a good thing, when its basicly taking all the newest unsupported code from the tree, and applying it and modifying it for the Dream handset, and in doing so, giving it 3rd party support. like downloading windows xp black pirate edition on TPB, to me its useless. ahhh the beauty of open source ^__^
why not go back to stock? it's not bleeding edge and it'll play your music just fine.
theres no shame in that.
wait. no, no...there is shame. terrible, terrible amounts of shame.
yea, but then i cant use debian. which is pretty cool so far.

lol I apologize I couldn't resist. So if a music centric build is what you are looking for, then it would be possible to strip out a lot of unnecessary features. First off, I think Google sync which is constantly running in the background can be taken out. Applications that are constantly refreshing, such as Mail can be removed. I understand you have apps to SD currently installed. Try internalizing the Music.apk, moving it back into the faster more reliable internal memory. Moreover, a good place to start I believe would be with the Google Ion build, which is lightning fast.
if i knew how to do that, i would slim down a stock JF update.
I think you should start out by flashing to Google Ion. Then, using ADB on your computer, enter ADB shell and being to manually remove the unnecessary applications. Whatever you don't need, take it out. As for Google sync, go to settings and disable it. Also in settings, disable notifications. At a point, you can even just turn off the radio and switch to airplane mode. That way no other services are running and you can listen to music uninterrupted, at the cost of not being able to accept calls.
wow, thanks for the support. i was looking at ION and thinking that it would be perfect. but im not really sure how to set up the development on fedora 11.

Ion FTW.
You set it up the same as you do on any other distro...
and...
what do you honestly do with debian on your phone?
As in on your computer? Are you running Linux or any operating system based on Linux? If so, unfortunately I can't help you there, I mostly use Windows and occasionally Wubi ):
(In all honesty I have very little knowledge when it comes to running Linux on a computer, so sorry about that haha)
I forgot to add, maybe increase your processor clock speed to 528Mhz. Look for an app called SetCPU. It is here on the forums for free, as the creator is among us or alternatively download it from the market, however it is a paid app on their.
if u use ion use R1 its faster than R2 in my opinion
i use um that overclock widget, i love that thing, works so well. umm. debian on my phone is pretty cool. it has potential. umm i might set this up and get a small release with just my name and roadmap on it.

Hmm.. looking at your signature, overclocking your PC, and even getting Debian to work in the first place, I think you are definitely capable and very experienced. Best of luck to you
Let us know if you are able to get that stripped down version of Google Ion working. I would do it, but I don't know how to resign updates and I just finally settled down on Haykuro 6.0.1 after a ROM struggle between JAC's Hero, TwistedUmbrella's Hero and JF1.51 where I was flashing a new ROM on a daily basis.
my only thing is my work ethic and lack of programming experiance. if anyone could help me get started. hell, i might actually post something in the android development outlining the project goals and stuff like that.
This ROM is rather incomplete as it is part of a project to backport parts of other HTC Sense 2.2 (Froyo) MDPI ROMs in ordr to have an HTC based Froyo ROM for Eris. Unlike the CyanogenMOD ports which have provided versions for models of their Froyo ROMs which were much easier to work on the Eris and have had 5+ months of painstaking work where this is only on its first month.
I'm just trying to get the optimization aspects done while others get full hardware functionality working, although I may join them soon. So what works? Allot actually. What doesn't? Thanks to Tazz, Tenzo, Conap & Decadance not much (BT audio, camera and WIFI hotspot).
It is fully themed using a combination of contributions providing a clean and somewhat unique Expresso look as well as many common performance tweaks which, to me, have provided a smoother, less choppy feel when interacting with the UI when compared to its parent ROMs.
Please note that portions of this ROM fall under the GPL, Apache and BSD licences. You may find the details of these licences here.
Since I rarely use the camera and never used BT audio I am currently using this as my day to day ROM. That does not mean it provides me a full experience. It is still very bleeding edge.

NOTE:
Before releasing more updates I am moving my efforts towards helping Tazz & Tenzo with core functionality and take what I can for that and help Kaos with Gingerbread. Once all core functionality is in place for this ROM's parent ROMs I will get this going as a serious ROM with the same focus it has now. So development on this ROM is still 100% active but it is gonna take a bit before you see a new release.

Hope it helps, sorry for the inconvenience.
I'm going to give this a try also. I've got two micro sd cards... one for Eclair ROMs and the other for Froyo ROMs. The Eclair card is partitioned for apps2sd and the Froyo card is all Fat32. I'm currently running Tenzo's xtrRCMix-Sense2.1 which is pretty awesome, but I think its time to swich cards for a while!

I'm getting the same thing.
I'm getting installation aborted when I try to install it. I did a complete wipe and boot in recovery.
I tired re signing the .zip file I downloaded and even that wouldn't work. I opened it in winRAR just to check and I get a break operation where it says unexpected end of archive and it says there are 0 bytes of data. Properties says its 120MB but I don't have a checksum to verify that the file is intact. It seems whatever was uploaded has been corrupted.
The archive is corrupt. Please re-upload it.

Ditto here.
I downloaded it late last night and it took FOREVER! I see he updated the link... Anyhoo. I was able to get it to install and it seemed pretty smooth/stable. I saw a couple FCs.. one in particular was in Settings > Network > Mobile Net options. Each time I tried to get into that setting page, it would FC. I also tried to get Facebook from the Market and it would never download.
I like the new sense ui though! it looks really clean. I've not sampled Tazz's or Tenzo's yet.
No LWPs worked for me.
Switching back to XTRSense for now.
Keep up the work!

Known issues: TitaniumBackup does NOT work for individual application. If someone can help me with it, please PM me. Lets fix it for the good of the community. Joel already knows about the issue and the suggested fixes did not give any result... I believe he is still working on it.
Titanium Backup works only by using Batch function - if you want to restore specific apps, create a folder on your sdcard and put the backed up apps there, then tell TiBu how that folder is called by going to Menu - preferences - backup folder name. Thanks to rootnik for the find

Thanks to hardcore for the kernel and wifi drivers, camalot for the keyboard, boomboler for AppWidgetPicker, aleadam and F44g0r for the Armani hacked camera app. If I forgot someone, please let me know

Keep Continuum if you use TiBu frequently. I got used to installing apps again from the market and inserting my credentials However, if you flash, leave it 10 minutes after the first welcome screen, turn it off and start it again to see how fast this damn thing boots. HTC's fastboot has now competition

I must say that I was impressed by the battery life. I lost 40% in 16h with moderate usage = 8h standby - wifi on, sync on for 3 accouns (google, fb and twitter), tapatalk running in the background - messaging (i recieve 2 SMSs for each email i get), regularly checking mail and 1 call for 5 mins.

I was impressed with kp1 modem when using it before, up to 2600 kbps down and 1600 kbps up with ping times between 130-180 (never had that download speed with jk4, etc)... I'll post my results after, just charging to 100% and then its go time
Cezar,
Sorry to hear about the TiBU issues, I know you were working hard to fix that before release. Just wanted to thank you for releasing anyway, I enjoy your work.

I tried some possible fixes with Joël Bourquard, the TiBu dev, but none of them worked. It looks like a locale issue as TiBu is looking for EN locale but cannot find it (not sure why...) even though it exists. I am sure he is digging, hopefully will have a fix soon.
Cezar does your theme work on this rom?
Cool. Glad you got it going. Downloading now.

Keep Continuum if you use TiBu frequently. I actually rarely use TiBu because I like a fresh install for each flash so I have no possibility of problems. Ill probably flash this tomorrow morning when I am charged.

First of all, I'm just an user. I like to experiment with my Vibrant, that's all.
Credits go to DerTeufel1980 whose ROM saved my phone from EU bug (HB 813); on HB 813 I've discovered the strange GPS behaviour;
to Krarvind from whose Slim Bean 2.2 ROM I've pulled the two GPS lib files (libandroid_servers.so and libclientgps.so) that do the trick;
and to mnazim who pointed out the importance of the libandroid_servers.so file for GPS.
Below is a "normal" GPS fix test (AngryGPS on HB 813); my phone is hardware GPS fixed. Everything is stock (didn't use gps fix files). Outdoors:
"Normal" fix

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Next is a fix after I replaced the two files in the System\lib folder:
"Strange" fix
As you can see, there are no asterisks (birds) next to a sattelite lock. Yet position is accurate (and Navigation).
The same and more colourful in GPS Test app:
The bars are all grey and there is no "in use" sattelite.
More detailed information gives the GPS Test app by Mike Lockwood:
As you can see, in "Flags" column there are some letters, which in "normal" fixes are different (see below): usually it's only a "U" letter which corresponds to an asterisk in AngryGPS:
"Normal" fix
There's also a new value in SNR column, not a number like "normally".
Generally, there's an increase in speed and stability of the fix. But it could be just placebo.
If someone would like to test themselves, just pull the two files from the Slim Bean 2.2 ROM and replace the stock ones and set permissions, and reboot.
Thank you for your replies.
Please note before anyone tries:
Use the latest source and libraries from CM. Swapping GPS libraries that aren't even from the same device, "because they work better" could have consequences, like sporadic or consistent 911 failure. If GPS matters that much to you, use a BT GPS receiver. Don't swap RIL libraries either while you're at it.

This may not swap GPS libraries from another device, but it it swapping GPS files.
Whatever you do, it's on you.
ok. after 3 days of use, I can say this strange GPS will only be seen on HB 813 build. i've tried with the newest and no go. this build is THE build for GPS. working just fine. BTW, replacing only the libclientgps.so file from Slim Bean 2.2 will still give excellent GPS, but as normal as it could be. I could see 13 satellites and locking after DS was always snappy. However, still keep the strange fix, it's so informative and maybe suggestive for improvements on our devices.
PS. Always keep the original lib files before doing the changes. Better rename them adding the extension "old", since it will keep old permissions too (in case you need them back).
This garbage is never going to work and stop trying. The only fix is the hardware fix which you need to take your phone apart for. Stop with the BS to gain 'rep' by creating these threads.

A little harsh there bud.
There has to be a reason GPS works on Froyo for a decent amount people even without the hardware fix.
GPS isn't completely broken.
Now by this I'm not saying/demanding it should work on Gingerbread, ICS, JB, but there could still be a possible fix. We just have to keep looking.
OP is simply trying to give people more options and/or choices. No need to bash on him.

I disagree here. I've done the hardware fix (no solder method) and I know very well my phone, the GPS performes very well on some ROMs/kernels while on others will not even initialize. The differences could be even more subtile: for instance, on ICS I always got a better accuracy with Devil kernels than with Subzero, generally on AOKP ROMs better than on AOSP. With JB I have corrupt GPS with the files that fixed it on ICS, and that was a surprize. These are just my observations on my phone. As are those in the thread.
Where did you pull libandroid_servers.so from? In stock grepping that file for gps returns nothing. Are you sure you don't mean libandroid_runtime.so?

As I noticed later, it works only on Helly Bean 813 build. Yes, I mean libandroid_servers.so. You can check by MD5 sums: 195603775cd3226b72d79b67e902c220
UPDATE: I'm not sure if that matters, but I am also using the MP' revert ril files (original Galaxy S ril files) and JI6 modem.
More importantly... you have a satellite with 1.5E-44 dBHz!?
Or in other words:
1.5 / 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dBHz

Yeah :cyclops:
Curiously enough, it is always the SAME one (PRN 20). Another thing I noticed is there is never more than 3-4 satellites, the strange thing is that they continue changing PRNs while the list stays the same, no more than 3-4 on every fix.
I would say something is broken, but the fact is POSITION IS ACCURATE.
For the first time I saw a letter different from the "normal" "U" in GPS Test by Mike Lockwood was on a Galaxy S II phone, it was "EU". This is why I guess our GPS on Vibrant can do MORE. Hopefully.

Yeah I don't know if anyone running a jb ROM should try this or not. The one thing I did notice is, you said to change the supl to Sony Ericson and port number. I know the GPS chip in vibes is a Sony Ericson. Have you tried just using those settings but not modifying the build.prop? And have you tried this with a jb ROM, if so which?
I tried the fix in op, got 1 sat in view almost immediately (15secs) but that's it, no more SATs, no lock. That's actually the first time I saw any SATs on jb.

Are you on HB 813? If not, I'm affraid the "fix" will be to no avail. Actually I don't know if it's really a fix anymore, since it won't work on other ROMs and does something strange to the GPS of a ROM were it worked anyway.
Good news! Insane GPS is back, now reproducible on various ROMs. From the aforementioned Slim 2.2 the culprit is "gps.aries.so" file (attached). Before you try, make sure to make a Nandroid backup. Replace the existing file at system/lib/hw or system/vendor/lib/hw, set permissions to 644 and reboot.
Note: the zip is NOT flashable.
Just found this tonight. I havent used it yet - I dont have lock issues.

Paranoid Android for Gtab
Ok people, here is my best PA build so far. It has much improved gaming abilities, much fewer crashes, and the graphics glitches are all but gone. Probably still needs work, but everything I want out of it, I am getting. Your input, good or bad is invaluable for making it and other Gtab roms BETTER.
Please use a 350mg partition, per teamdrh's nvflash.
1. boot into recovery, wipe data/ factory reset
2. go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache
3. go to mounts and storage, format system.
4. Load rom from PC, and flash
5. On first boot, after the boot animation, there will be a blank screen for about a minute while the paranoid settings initialize, this will look wrong, but it is AaaaaaLRIGHT.
6. After boot,the initial setup should be:
A)Go to SETTINGS>SYSTEM>NAVBAR and turn on softkeys
B)Go to SETTINGS>paranoidsettings>and check tablet mode for all three. I also recommend changing statusbar to 120DPI, then apply changes and reboot.
7. Boot into recovery, and flash GAPPS, I recommend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918484&highlight=gapps+market+only
(choose the jellybean package, and thank the guy)
Any other gapps I recommend installing individually from the market, but you can use the GAPPS from the smoothbean thread too
THATS IT! You're ready to roll,mod,play, whatever.
For the GAMERS:
With the intitial setup, along with overclocking to 1200mhz, deadtrigger plays flawlessly. I had one crash in a total of five hours of gameplay over three days.
For Gt racing, and some other gameloft games please hold power button, then turn on "EXPANDED DEKTOP"
Same goes for NBA JAM
For Mass Effect, go to SETTINGS>ParanoidSettings>apps>mass effect>and set it to 140 dpi, then check "force" and large screen"
Frontline commando, working great for me, but JesseJamez reported a couple of crashes, so I dont know what the deal is here.
For any game that crashes, the first recommendation is to turn on EXPANDED DESKTOP. THE SECOND RECOMMENDATION is 140 dpi, then the 3rd is 140 dpi with EXPANDED DESKTOP.
NBA2K13, plays but it lags, I think this is the limit of our GTABS!
Six Guns: version 1.0.6 that I posted previously works great
If you cant get your game to work, please try to find a previous version of the game if you cant get it through settings changes
CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS:
*Fixed for permissions in kernel for IO scheduler, can now be changed in Settings>performance
*merge latest from CM10
*merge up to PA version 2.54
*various tweaks for stability, hurts the speed, but helps tha GAMEs!
*proper implementation of newest NV libraries posted on github by plastikman, along with latest commits to the 2.6.39 kernel
*you can now go BIG, up to 240dpi
SO....SHOULD I USE THIS OR SMOOTHBEAN?????
Well, if you are a NBA JAM nut, or you have parents who need it BIGGER, this is the rom for you.
Otherwise, there is no need to switch from smoothbean other than curiosity.
HERE YOU GO>>>>>

ENJOY!!
UPDATE 11/25/2012 Important!
Audio fix for MP3s and some games, courtesy of nobe:
http://d-h.st/J3O
******KNOWN ISSUES: If you have any developer options on, it may break antutu, just flip switch at top off. one game i tried would software loop until I switched these off too, so its something else you can try.**********

***as with all custom roms, I am not responsible for bricks, bad installs, or thousand mile wide hurricanes that turn into blizzards, so flash AT YOUR OWN RISK!

no, it is for gtab. The same things that wont work for zpad in other roms will also not work on this rom. It uses fosser's kernel for gtab, and therefore it will not support zpad features that gtab does not have.
Very Nice :good: I am taking this one for the ride of her life. Only thing done so far is CPU freq. change to 1200/456

Good news guys. I got all the PA settings to work. THe tab had to be set up as a phone first, then you can change to phablet, or tablet. And, for gaming, all the per app DPI settings now work. Nobe is going to activate the ZRAM for me, and fix the audiopolicy.conf for HDMI audio and we will post later today, so please hang tight, I promise this next one is GOOD TO GO!

I think there are GAPPS for paranoid. Check their site. I will also look into this. Plus, make sure that if you run full gapps, you may need a 350meg system partition, using the teamdrh 350 PREP.

Did you happen to do a full wipe before install? Something trailing over from a different ROM might be holding you back. The update script states in it to format system, but I think the settings are different from mine and it might not be doing a full job. Always wipe before switching (System, Data, Cache, and re-partition to the specs needed so nothing gets left. I did some testings and this ROM also buffers and Stores on the Data app partition like all others. So as a reminder if you only do a re-partition during installation you will loose all data and have to setup all over again.
